Can someone explain to me why conservatives are so mad about Biden's suggestion that we have a door-to-door vaccination drive? It's not just Crenshaw - voters in Texas are losing their shit about it on our governor's FB page, and other Texas electeds have made belligerent statements about it. www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/texas/article/Not-on-my-watch-Texas-Republicans-buck-16299133.phpI get that solicitors are annoying, but the outrage over this seems to imply that people think they'll be forcibly vaccinated against their will. What on earth? You asked why are conservatives so mad at Biden's suggestion... I gave a possible reason. Others have given reasons. You don't like the reasons because they don't align with how you feel about the situation. I laughed about wondering what would happen if this was suggested by the Trump administration. You opted to be rude instead of acknowledging that it might be a shitstorm of angry democrats. You pay very close attention to right extremism and it seems that you believe we all think that way. That's your prerogative, but you're wrong. Surely you don't align with all the dumbass extreme folks you have on your side either. We can politically disagree without thinking the other is a dumbass because of the stupid shit the extremes on our sides do or say. No? No, there would not be a shitstorm of angry Democrats nor Democrats losing their damn mind. I said this upthread, but maybe it bears repeating. Both Republican and Democratic Administrations do send people knocking - census workers. Both parties send volunteers out before elections. Even during Covid, the Republicans sent volunteers door to door. Sending volunteers - clergy, community leaders & organizers etc - door to door to offer information is not something for anyone to lose their damn mind over. Some people who have so far refused the vaccine might change their mind if they had information in their native language from someone they trust. There is a need to provide accurate information about the vaccine to people to counter conspiracy theories and misinformation. And, at the same time, I don’t see any Republicans offering useful suggestions or ideas for how to get people vaccinated. It’s all about obstructing or blocking the current administration. It’s not surprising that all of the states that voted for Trump and Georgia have the lowest vaccination rates. Their fearless leader got stabbed in secret.

If Trump had of suggested doing anything like this, I wouldn’t be angry, no.
Fallen off my chair in shock and still down for the count? Probably.
This particular version of the Republican Party *never* would’ve done it though, so any theorizing he would or whataboutism is just another bad faith argument.

I would like to add that I would have been suspicious and wanted a lot more information about what information they were sharing and the people who were doing so. That is due to the complete shit show they displayed handling the pandemic. They earned that distrust one uneducated, reckless statement/action at a time. But had there been a good faith effort for actual education? Thrilled. I would have been thrilled.

I'd love to see the flip in attitude if the Trump administration was encouraging going door to door to increase the vaccination numbers. My guess is people wouldn’t have been screaming at the top of their lungs that they’re losing some right like more than a few trump supporters/conservatives did when the virus first appeared. Never in my life have I seen such silliness when it came to wearing masks, social distancing, avoiding large crowds outside your “bubble”;and now this silliness has spread to getting vaccinated. Considering what we could have been asked to do, what was asked/required was a big nothing and only a temporary one at that. Just think if all the people had worn masks, social distanced along with avoiding huge crowds, the country could have opened up quicker then it did and there wouldn’t be 600,000 dead Americans. The longer these snowflakes whine about getting vaccinated, that 600,000 number will continue to climb and new variants will have a chance to form. One has to wonder how these Einstein’s function day to day as adults.

The anti-vaxxers need to pay attention NOW! "It is heart-wrenching to see unvaccinated individuals come into the hospital with regret," Dr. Ryan Dare of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock told NBC News. He told the network the hospitalizations are "nearly 100 percent preventable. He noted treating clients who, "if they could do it all over again, would have had the vaccine in a second." Dr Juarez reported he has patients who are "shocked" that coronavirus exists and can be fatal."A comment they make all the time is that they wish that they knew they were going to end up in the hospital this sick and they would have made a different choice and got the vaccine," he said. Wyoming is also suffering, with only a 35% vaccination rate. www.rawstory.com/anti-vaxxer-hospitalization/Seriously? After 16 months of this virus wreaking havoc across the world, they still doubt its existence and/or didn't know you could end up in hospital or die from it? That's not 'not paying attention' - not paying attention was an excuse up until about Easter 2020. It is now a refusal to face facts or to have to admit they were wrong about something. I have very little sympathy for these people. I don’t think that it’s possible to get through to these people. But Covid is plummeting in highly vaccinated areas and surging in low vaccinated areas. I heard one man, just today, say that he has a “great” immune system and he isn’t getting the vaccination. How stupid can you be? “ In many urban and suburban communities, Covid continues to plummet. The rate of new daily cases has fallen below three per 100,000 residents in large cities like Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington. As a point of comparison, the national rate of new daily cases peaked last winter above 75 per 100,000 people. But in less populated areas — which tend to be more politically conservative and skeptical of vaccines — the virus is now surging, largely from the contagious Delta variant. The states with the worst outbreaks are Arkansas and Missouri (each with more than 16 new daily cases per 100,000 people) followed by Florida (10), Nevada (10), Wyoming (nine) and Utah (eight). If these outbreaks were concentrated among younger people, it would be less worrisome, because Covid, including the Delta variant, is overwhelmingly mild for children and young adults. Yet even many middle-aged and older adults are not vaccinated in parts of the U.S. They are catching the virus as a result, and some are dying.”

And no, if the vaccine had become available during the Trump admin and he had suggested a door to door campaign to get people vaccinated, I don’t think there would have been “a shitstorm of angry democrats.” Based on hundreds... thousands? of the things that it's okay if you're a democrat -but if it's Trump... “a shitstorm of angry democrats”. All claiming he's Hitler and they're terrified and for the cherry on top, you're a racist if you disagree with their assessment. *Kamala outright said, she wouldn't take the vaccine if Trump suggested it. But now that Biden is in office that exact same vaccine is just fine. *The left leaning media all called it the Wuhan Virus because it came from Wuhan, until Trump said it because it came from Wuhan and then magically it was racist. *Trump calling out Loyalty Day is a terrifying thing to do despite it being a proclamation made by every single president since the 50s *Kids in the holding facilities that Obama had built are SUDDENLY "kids in cages" when Trump takes office, and SUDDENLY like magic, those same exact cages revert back to facilities when Biden takes office. *Democrats all call for upgrading the border wall and yet when Trump does, it's suddenly racist to say what the Democrats said. *Trump calls for a peaceful protest to "make your voices peacefully and patriotically heard" and he's inciting violence. Maxine Waters calls for actual "harassment of political opponents" and it's excused as "just encouraging people to speak out" and "use their right to protest". So, yes, I have no doubt there would have been “a shitstorm of angry democrats” if Trump had done it.

Especially when you consider the life expectancy of people, when *all* they had to trust was their immune systems vs rampant infectious disease. A lot never even made it out of infancy, thanks to diseases we treat as mostly routine today.

There was an angry sh$tstorm every time he did or said something stupid, offensive or racist. But, if he actually did something to stop the spread of the virus, Democrats would have been shocked.

I don’t think anyone criticized Trump for Operation Warp Speed, except for perhaps, a poor choice of a name. How much credit does he really deserve for developing the vaccine vs the scientists that worked around the clock? And Pfizer had other funding to develop the vaccine. www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/11/24/938591815/pfizers-coronavirus-vaccine-supply-contract-excludes-many-taxpayer-protectionseta- If Republicans are whining that former didn’t get enough credit for the vaccine, perhaps it’s because Trump himself for once didn’t brag about the accomplishment. Instead, he focused on election fraud and rallies for the last months of his term. Overall, Trump badly mishandled the pandemic from the beginning. He mostly downplayed and ignored it, costing thousands of lives. Anything that he did accomplish like Operation Warp Speed was mostly a credit to others and a bare minimum that you would expect from an administration. So, no I don’t think he deserves a lot of credit for that. And this is a stupid argument - however, if he did community outreach to get the vaccine out to Americans, Democrats would have been shocked. Because that effort shows compassion and empathy, something he was sorely lacking.

Your point about loyalty is really unclear. Do you really need links or examples of how former demanded complete loyalty? He attacked anyone from either party that spoke against him. Liz Cheney comes to mind as a recent example. He attacked her because she dared to tell the truth about the election. apnews.com/article/donald-trump-liz-cheney-house-elections-election-2020-government-and-politics-db885d0a6b28f12d733da54dbae617faAnd Trump himself took a sharp-elbowed victory lap, saying, “Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being. I watched her yesterday and realized how bad she is for the Republican Party. She has no personality or anything good having to do with politics or our Country.” Are you poking fun at Presidents Biden’s loyalty day proclamation? Personally, I much prefer President Biden’s perspective on loyalty. www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/04/30/a-proclamation-on-loyalty-day-2021/Here in America, loyalty does not mean fealty to any one leader or political party, nor does it mean unthinking praise or willful ignorance of our shortcomings — it means loyalty to our common ideals, and to one another. It means standing united as one people, even as we cherish our differences and respect dissent.

The same reason I and many of you don't want preachers going door to door. If I want religion I will go to church. Don't come to my door If I want insurance don't come to my door, I'll call you. If I want the vaccine (and I have had it) don't come to my door, I'll go get it. I’d venture to say that most of us are annoyed by door to door solicitations. It’s a rare person, though, who sees a missionary or salesperson at the door and reacts in the way that the Texas GOP and others have reacted about this. This belligerent “come and take it” attitude about a completely unthreatening effort to help people who want and need help is political posturing and grandstanding, and nothing more. It’s the GOP’s outrage du jour because the Biden administration isn’t actually doing anything they can use to rile up their base (no socialism, no open borders, no guns or religion taken away), so they had to transform a mild annoyance into a threat to the American way of life. Exactly so. I have to say that RW media is getting their base frothing at the mouth over an information campaign. Some of these governors obviously care more about scoring cheap political points than the health of their citizens. This will not end well. “ But some in the GOP saw a political opening, catering to the party’s small-government roots and libertarian wing. “The Biden Administration wants to knock on your door to see if you’re vaccinated,” tweeted Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan. “What’s next? Knocking on your door to see if you own a gun?” McMaster asked his state’s health department to bar state and local health groups from “the use of the Biden Administration’s ‘targeted’ ‘door to door’ tactics.” “A South Carolinian’s decision to get vaccinated is a personal one for them to make and not the government’s,” McMaster wrote in a letter to the department. “Enticing, coercing, intimidating, mandating, or pressuring anyone to take the vaccine is a bad policy which will deteriorate the public’s trust and confidence in the State’s vaccination efforts.” In Missouri, meanwhile, GOP Gov. Mike Parson tweeted: “I have directed our health department to let the federal government know that sending government employees or agents door-to-door to compel vaccination would NOT be an effective OR a welcome strategy in Missouri!” Earlier in the week, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich sent a letter to Biden condemning the new strategy. For the usually reserved Biden White House, which has long harbored private frustrations about some states’ laggard vaccination programs but refused to condemn them publicly for fear of playing up political divides in public health, it was a bridge too far.”

Based on hundreds... thousands? of the things that it's okay if you're a democrat -but if it's Trump... Most of the above is factually incorrect. It’s interesting to see how the human mind can skew things to support preconceived ideas. (I’m sure you actually believe these things, by the way, and not actively trying to deceive.)

How in heavens name did they get the above from "We need to go to community-by-community, neighborhood-by-neighborhood and, often times, door-to-door, literally knocking on doors to get help to the remaining people protected from the virus," WE surely means local people, people that others in the community have day to day connections with. Are they that thick in thinking the WE means only the government itself. Wasn't this what local communities did when they had floods in Texas, Katrina and other emergencies. Made sure their communities were safe bu knocking on doors? I class a world pandemic that has killed millions and has the potential to kill many more in the same manner. It just beggars belief the mentality of some of these officials and what they would risk, the lives of others, just to get a swipe at their political opponents. They should be ashamed of themselves.

They are being manipulated by cynical media and by politicians who know better. Look at the governor of Missouri, simultaneously requesting federal help for Covid outbreaks and protesting about the federal govt. sending agents door to door to compel vaccinations. Which is bullshite, by the way. That’s the most maddening part of it. Conservative leaders know that the feds are not compelling vaccines, and they know that unvaccinated people will die because they didn’t get vaccinated. And yet they continue to spout the party line. Or maybe the party lie.

I don’t think anyone criticized Trump for Operation Warp Speed, except for perhaps , a poor choice of a name. It's funny how you say you don't think anyone criticized him for Operation Warp Speed and then repeatedly criticize him for it. And yes, it IS a stupid argument. Left leaning Peas constantly make observations like the one that was made twice by a couple of other conservatives on this thread. Yet, Merge came along and tried to shut it down by being insulting and rude AND saying it was already discussed. As if she was in charge of the direction of the thread and what could be discussed on it. As if she couldn't possibly let people make observations she doesn't agree No, I didn’t criticize him for it, I just said that he doesn’t deserve a lot of credit for it. Not the same thing.
