Can someone explain to me why conservatives are so mad about Biden's suggestion that we have a door-to-door vaccination drive? It's not just Crenshaw - voters in Texas are losing their shit about it on our governor's FB page, and other Texas electeds have made belligerent statements about it. www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/texas/article/Not-on-my-watch-Texas-Republicans-buck-16299133.phpI get that solicitors are annoying, but the outrage over this seems to imply that people think they'll be forcibly vaccinated against their will. What on earth?

Because they are morons.
I wish the media would start bring up door to door proselytizing in response. It’s offensive.

Because they're monsters.
My mom is old enough to remember polio. A child on her block got it, and then was disabled for the rest of his life. Parents kept their kids indoors for a whole summer; she grew up on the west side of Chicago and going outside to the park or playing in an open hydrant was just what you DID during the summer. They didn't that summer.
When vaccines became available, they GOT them, and there even were doctors going door to door and administering them. Nobody complained; people were happy to get them, because they knew polio was serious.
Dan Crenshaw is a monster and a moron, who uses inflammatory language for attention. He doesn't give two shits about constituent health; to these people (him, MTG, Bobert), holding elected office is a reality show and anything that gives them attention and keeps them in the "game" is good.
Shame on anyone who votes for or supports people like this. They're not adults who think critically, that's for damn sure.

If you don’t want a vaccination, say no. And then get on with your day.
But I would imagine there are quite a few people out there that WOULD get a vaccine if it were that easy. Maybe they don’t have transportation. Maybe they don’t have the resources to find a place to get a vaccine. Maybe they think it costs money they don’t have. Maybe they’re just lazy. Maybe they’ve been meaning to and just need that extra little push.
These stupid right-wing assholes always need something to be outraged about since that cannot come up with any constructive legislative ideas (other than restricting voting, restricting a woman’s right to abortion, or constricting the way history is taught in school).

I am pretty much at the point of if you don't want to be vaccinated fine, but if you die of COVID I'm not going to feel sorry for you.

Ridiculous.
Oddly enough, there are people who aren’t strongly against it who haven’t been vaccinated.
Dd has a sublet in her apartment for a few weeks. Everyone Dd knows is vaccinated. Her roommate didn’t even think to ask because all these NY based performers are vaccinated and got it as soon as they could. This is an LA based musician. She asked Dd about where to take hip hop classes and as Dd explained, she mentioned in passing that you need to show your proof of vaccination the first time you go. Dd was shocked and angered that this person was not vaccinated. Dd told her where the walk in places where and she did go get vaccinated 2 days later. This is the type of person that would have benefitted from a door to door campaign.

And this is just another reason I love California. Uber and Lyft offered free rides to and from vaccine clinics. Then my county offered rides which they offered accessible vans for those with disabilities. Then my county offered in home vaccines. Other counties have done this as well.
We are doing what ever it takes to get vaccines in the arms of people.
IRC and other Regional Centers did drive thru clinics of J&J for their clients and IDD/Disabled community members.
Did they forget their fearless idiotic leader got jabbed?

My guess is that it means the government knows they are not vaccinated.
I would not volunteer for that job. Too many crazies out there

Shame on anyone who votes for or supports people like this. They're not adults who think critically, that's for damn sure. And Elvis Presley got his polio shot on the Ed Sullivan Show - and then sang “Hound Dog.” One of my earliest memories is both hazy and precise - being at my siblings’ school and a nice nurse in a white cap giving me a little paper cup with my polio sugar cube. But why was I at the school, I’ve sometimes wondered. I wasn’t old enough. Googling now, I learn that in the early ‘60s whole neighborhoods would line up on a Saturday or Sunday at the local school to suck on those cubes. Even though everybody had already had the shot, this was version 2.0 and the cultural memory of the previous decade inspired wholesale participation. They needed thousands of volunteers; the school PTAs regularly served as the record keepers. Dads knocked on elderly neighbors’ doors and offered rides. People strung streams and balloons. And little tyke me remembers it because it was a big party. President Kennedy’s exhortation was “There’s nothing scary about a sugar cube” and he wasn’t excoriated and branded a Communist for saying so. (And that’s saying somethin’ for those days…)

Also, I guaranfuckingtee if a republican administration wanted to send people knocking the left would lose their damn minds.

Yes, Lyft and Uber both offered free rides in NJ too. The local senior busses went to the mega centers and are still going to other places for the vaccines.

from that article: "On Tuesday, a member of the newly-created federal surge response team arrived in the Springfield area to provide epidemiological support, Lisa Cox, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Senior Services confirmed Wednesday." Explain to me, please-- HOW can vaccination outreach, e.g., door-to-door canvassing, NOT be considered part of "EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SUPPORT?!?!?" They really ARE morons.

'The Left' is concerned about the overall good, which IMO includes efforts such as door-to-door canvassing so EVERYONE can be given the (easy) opportunity to NOT DIE.

I’ll be honest, I worry *for* the people going door to door in the current climate in this country. 😞
People like Dan Crenshaw will be directly responsible if anything happens to one of them.

I remember when the Rubella vaccine came out, I was of the early teen age that was the initial first shot was targeted at. The NSW Dept of Health came to my (private) school and every girl in my class got the shot. I cannot imagine that is a thing there anymore, but no one objected then. It was considered a Public Health service. I take that back. It seems in most states, except Queensland, school vaccination programs are still a thing there. www1.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/cda-cdi3702-pdf-cnt.htm/$FILE/cdi3702j.pdf

We all lined up, went in one door of the library, got our shot and went out the other door and back to class.

There are already folks on Twitter and Instagram foaming at the mouth about their 2nd amendment rights and 'putting them to good use' for anyone that comes knocking on their door.

I actually looked in that thing i posted and it was started in 70-71 which is much earlier than I remember, I got mine mid 80s. They had a short class before where they explained why we were getting it, and any reactions to look out for, then we all got them pretty much the same way as you did, assembly line style. 😂

I live in California. Did I say it was unique to my state? NO. I said this is just another reason why I love Ca. Don't assume I don't know other states do this or it is unique to my state. At least my state gives an F unlike Texas.

Maybe they could take out a couple Girl Scouts first and see how it goes. Then some woman trying to get signatures to run for school board. Work their way up to the big prize of vaccine offerer. After all, unconstitutionality has a pecking order. (Which is why it’s hands-off for the evil census worker. Article I, Sec. 2.) To think we’ve moved from the invented “They’ll come to our houses and seize our guns!” to the real “THEY’LL COME TO OUR HOUSES AND OFFER A PANDEMIC-STOPPING VACCINE!” as grist for ideological outrage and a call to arms. I’m gonna go suck on a sugar cube and mourn my country.

I have not heard anyone even suggest compelling vaccinations in the private sector, particularly by the Biden administration.

we never got vaccinations at school.. my mom, the public health nurse, always took us to the doctor for them. part of it was the live polio vaccine, which we couldn't get because it would expose my dad, who couldn't get the vaccine due to allergies. so we got the salk one.
I even still have the record card my mom made up to keep track of major illnesses and vaccines. I grew up with stories of the 1918 pandemic.. my grandparents were young adults and I believe I lost one aunt to that disease.
