If I want the vaccine (and I have had it) don't come to my door, I'll go get it. But everyone CAN'T just 'go get it' like you can. Or may they have different hesitancies than you did. WHY IS THAT FACT SO HARD FOR PEOPLE TO ACKNOWLEDGE??? NOT EVERYONE OUT THERE HAS YOUR (apparently cushy, happy-go-lucky) LIFE!!!(YES, I'm yelling. People with privilege (economic, educational, racial, health-related, etc.) and WILLFUL blinders about that privilege are freakin' ANNOYING, IRRITATING, AND FRANKLY, IGNORANT AND ARROGANT.) I want to like this more then once!!

Sorry I disagree and I do not have blinders on. The government has made it ridiculously easy to get this vaccine. There was a local news report this morning about a hair salon that is giving vaccines to hesitant African Americans. You can get this vaccine almost anywhere and if you can't physically get to a vaccination clinic almost every church around here has a sign saying call and they will get you there! I still do not want someone coming to my door asking about a vaccine. We will just have to disagree.

I still do not want someone coming to my door asking about a vaccine. We will just have to disagree. Arizona floated the idea of “officials “ going door to door and asking people who they voted for. The DOJ nixed it but some helpful folks decided to pretend they were officials and did go door to door asking people who they voted for. If someone like that came to my door they would not get a warm welcome. So yea I don’t like people coming to my door asking certain questions. But who I voted for is not going to make anyone violently ill or potentially killing them. Having said that, not getting vaccinated can. And unless you know how every single person thinks or acts you are making assumptions that “oh sure they can get vaccinated it’s easy peasy” when in fact for some it may not be “easy peasy” and going door to door might get people vaccinated that might not have been if left to their own devices. The key to handling this virus is getting as many people vaccinated as possible. And if that means going door to door to achieve that goal so be it. So count me as another one who disagrees with your thinking.

lbp , if you can't even acknowledge that there are people out in the world who may not be able to 'just go get it' in regards to the COVID vaccine for any single or combination of unknown-to-you reasons, then you absolutely DO have blinders on about what sorts of circumstances people different from you might live in. All I'm saying is that NOT everyone can do what you did. If you can't even agree that this MIGHT be true, then in my opinion, you ARE being willfully ignorant. And unless you know how every single person thinks or acts you are making assumptions that “oh sure they can get vaccinated it’s easy peasy” when in fact for some it may not be “easy peasy” and going door to door might get people vaccinated that might not have been if left to their own devices. ^^^ THAT.

About a month ago, I read that in a survey of unvaccinated people (have no idea by whom; it was reported in the NYT), the most popular reasons AFTER “It hasn’t been tested” or “I don’t need it” or “It’s evil” were all practical, like no time, can’t take off work, no transportation, too far, child care, no buddy to accompany, (and a lot of) if I get side effects I’ll miss work or not be able to care for children/elderly.
This discussion reminds me of the discussions here about how it’s so easy to get an ID to vote. I agree that it’s hard for many of us to even fathom circumstances that are so different than our own and most everybody we know.

I think are couple of important points are being overlooked 1. No one from the government is going door to door. Everyone involved in the effort is a volunteer - clergy, community leaders, community organizers etc. In some communities, these volunteers are reaching out to people. There is no coercion involved. They are only providing information. If you don't want them coming to your door, there's a simple solution - don't answer it. www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/press-briefings/2021/07/08/press-briefing-by-white-house-covid-19-response-team-and-public-health-officials-44/As the President said, we do this by going community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, person by person; by partnering with local leaders, governors, mayors, doctors, school administrators, employers, faith leaders, and community organizers — leaders that people know and trust. One shot at a time. One person at a time. And the good news is we know this local, community-by-community approach works. In June, we focused much of this work in places with some of the lowest vaccination rates. We worked with local organizations in these communities to make sure people knew where to get a vaccine and how effective the vaccines are against COVID-19. We focused much of this work in states including Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, and Texas — states with some of the lowest vaccination rates. Across June, vaccination rates in these states grew faster than the overall national vaccination rate. So we’re going to stay at it and continue to make progress. We will get vaccines to more and more family doctors so Americans can get a shot at their doctor’s office. 2. The current Covid hotspots are in areas with low vaccination rates. Especially in light of the Delta variant, it is in our collective best interests to get more people vaccinated.www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/07/09/1014512213/covid-is-surging-in-new-hotspots-driven-by-low-vaccination-rateswww.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/press-briefings/2021/07/08/press-briefing-by-white-house-covid-19-response-team-and-public-health-officials-44/Of the 173 counties with the highest case rates, the vast majority — 93 percent — have less than 40 percent vaccination of their residents. These counties are where more than 9 million Americans live and work, and are the locations in the country where we are seeing the increased hospitalizations and deaths among unvaccinated individuals. Many of these counties are also the same locations where the Delta variant represents the large majority of circulating virus. Low vaccination rates in these counties coupled with high case rates and lax mitigation policies that do not protect those who are unvaccinated from disease will certainly and sadly lead to more unnecessary suffering, hospitalizations, and potentially death.

something I heard on Chris Hayes yesterday (I didn't hear the entire interview) is that in some rural counties, people may not even HAVE a family doctor, so that route doesn't exist for everyone. It was Claire McCaskill, talking about Missouri: The state legislature has not expanded Medicaid (even though the voters voted TO do that, via ballot measure in August 2020) so no matter how poor someone might be, they are not insured. Therefore, they routinely don't get health care other than going to the ER in the most dire emergencies.

In terms of access, I think this describes it really well. www.vox.com/2021/6/2/22463223/covid-19-vaccine-hesitancy-reasons-whyAccess doesn’t just mean we’ve opened up eligibility to everyone,” Liz Hamel, director of public opinion and survey research at Kaiser, told me. “Access also means that I can find a way to get the vaccine without putting my livelihood at risk, or I can get it in a place I feel safe getting it.”I also think this is an interesting point All of the reasons people provide for not getting vaccinated, from lack of access to conspiracy theories, share a common theme: A significant portion of Americans don’t believe the vaccines are worth the potential downsides.

The same reason I and many of you don't want preachers going door to door. If I want religion I will go to church. Don't come to my door If I want insurance don't come to my door, I'll call you. If I want the vaccine (and I have had it) don't come to my door, I'll go get it. I’d venture to say that most of us are annoyed by door to door solicitations. It’s a rare person, though, who sees a missionary or salesperson at the door and reacts in the way that the Texas GOP and others have reacted about this. This belligerent “come and take it” attitude about a completely unthreatening effort to help people who want and need help is political posturing and grandstanding, and nothing more. It’s the GOP’s outrage du jour because the Biden administration isn’t actually doing anything they can use to rile up their base (no socialism, no open borders, no guns or religion taken away), so they had to transform a mild annoyance into a threat to the American way of life.

It's getting more out of control. Rep Madison Cawthorn now says they are setting to come get your Bibles and the you guns ..... The the fact the federal government goes door-to-door during the Census, Cawthorn painted a dystopian vision of what could happen if the government knocked on doors to tell Americans about the COVID vaccines, which have proven safe and effective. "The thing about the mechanisms they would have to build to be able to actually execute that massive of a thing — and then think about what those mechanisms could be used for. They could then go door-to-door to take your guns. They could then go door-to-door to take your Bibles," he argued. www.rawstory.com/madison-cawthorn-vaccine-cpac/

Also, get out the vote drives and people door knocking for political candidates. Imagine if the right used all its reach to convince people to get vaccinated instead of acting like offering the vaccine is a crime against humanity.

If you don’t want it just say no or don’t answer the door. No one is going to pin you down and do it anyway. You have to either sign for it on paper or agree electronically to have the vaccine.
I see a lot of people complaining that it’s a ‘waste of money’ to pay people to knock on doors of people who don’t want the vaccine. HOWEVER, a good percentage of unvaccinated people in my area are shut ins or people without proper transportation. The only way to know which is which is to go & ask them. People argue that they should have an online place to sign up or make appts for them to come to you if people want the vaccine instead of going door to door. But a portion of these people also do not have high speed Internet so no access to appointments online and some still have push button landlines.
Is it an expenditure? Yes. Is it ‘worth it’? I say, aren’t people, all people, worth it! Everyone should have access
They don’t want it, they can say no. They have no problem saying no in the most Karen like ways to Girl Scouts selling cookies so this should be no issue for them.

And this is just another reason I love California. Uber and Lyft offered free rides to and from vaccine clinics. Then my county offered rides which they offered accessible vans for those with disabilities. Then my county offered in home vaccines. Other counties have done this as well. We are doing what ever it takes to get vaccines in the arms of people. IRC and other Regional Centers did drive thru clinics of J&J for their clients and IDD/Disabled community members. Did they forget their fearless idiotic leader got jabbed? You need Internet access to use uber or Lyft. Many people do not have internet access.

If some one were to knock on my door and ask if I needed information about the vaccine, I would have no difficulty saying fine, or I got it already or I have an appointment or I choose not to discuss it with him/her. Or just I'm not interested, which what I say to all solicitors. THAT is not difficult at all.

No bat phone, but not surprised at how rude you are. You showed up to drop a turd rather than contribute to conversation. (Your "wondering" had already been discussed upthread.) But I'm rude? Alrighty then. If you can share a legitimate reason why someone should be afraid (not annoyed, but actually in fear for their life or freedom) to have a volunteer come by to ask if they need information about a vaccine or help getting one, please do. If I was like a Trump voter, I'd have been polishing my AR-15 in the driveway when the Trumpers were canvassing our neighborhood for votes. Because apparently people stopping by with info are threatening.

There have been several things repeated on this thread...not a big deal and it happens all the time. It matters not whether I believe someone does or does not have a legitimate reason to fear someone coming to their door offering the vaccination. It's not my business. And that's not what the OP asked anyway.
If conservatives don't want people at their doors for the vaccination, one reason might be because they don't trust their government and don't want them in their business. I'm sure there are many reasons. Whether or not they are legitimate reasons to you is none of their concern.

Trouble is that with the growing numbers with serious hospitalizations and deaths happening, 98% are not vaccinated, it affects ALL of us. More so people who live in those areas who may need medical help from very overworked medical staffs taking care of Covid patients. Taking up needed hospital beds and staff. All they had to do is get a vaccine. But the anti-vaxxers and/or deniers seem to not care about their friends and family or the rest of us, or those who cannot get the vaccine.
Everyone also needs to remember that Former president Trump and his wife both received the vaccine while he was president and they were still living in the WH in January 2020. He didn't care enough about the masses to tell them or show them.

I guess I should have clarified that I wanted legitimate and sensible reasons, since, you know, we're talking about Trump voters here. No one is trying to be in anyone's business, for fuck's sake. They're talking about offering something and anyone can say no. Here in Texas, they can even wave a shotgun at them to get them to leave. What should be *everyone's* concern is the right's continued misinformation campaign against vaccines, starting way back with the first lie - that Covid is no big deal and no one needs a vaccine. People keep dying because folks like your guy Ted Cruz and his buddy Madison Cawthorn have somehow convinced them that offering a vaccine equals taking their guns and bibles. That should be a concern. That's dangerous, crazy stuff, and some innocent volunteer could get shot because of it. There is something deeply sick and wrong about a culture that makes every facet of civilization, like education and preventative medical care, out to be the enemy. Y'all won't be happy until we're back to the anarchist wild west.

Can someone explain to me why conservatives are so mad about Biden's suggestion that we have a door-to-door vaccination drive? It's not just Crenshaw - voters in Texas are losing their shit about it on our governor's FB page, and other Texas electeds have made belligerent statements about it. www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/texas/article/Not-on-my-watch-Texas-Republicans-buck-16299133.phpI get that solicitors are annoying, but the outrage over this seems to imply that people think they'll be forcibly vaccinated against their will. What on earth? You asked why are conservatives so mad at Biden's suggestion... I gave a possible reason. Others have given reasons. You don't like the reasons because they don't align with how you feel about the situation. I laughed about wondering what would happen if this was suggested by the Trump administration. You opted to be rude instead of acknowledging that it might be a shitstorm of angry democrats. You pay very close attention to right extremism and it seems that you believe we all think that way. That's your prerogative, but you're wrong. Surely you don't align with all the dumbass extreme folks you have on your side either. We can politically disagree without thinking the other is a dumbass because of the stupid shit the extremes on our sides do or say. No?

We can politically disagree without thinking the other is a dumbass because of the stupid shit the extremes on our sides do or say. No? It’s not the fringe saying this stuff on the right. It’s the mainstream of your elected representatives. It’s your former president and his supporters. It’s several of the representatives for the state we both live in. And no, if the vaccine had become available during the Trump admin and he had suggested a door to door campaign to get people vaccinated, I don’t think there would have been “a shitstorm of angry democrats.” Our mainstream tends to get worked up about things like Americans being shot by police, women not having bodily autonomy, families separated permanently at our border, and people going without necessary healthcare. I think if Trump had suggested such a thing (after months of Covid denial and the promotion of quackery) we might all have died of shock, but we wouldn’t have seen our mainstream elected leaders freaking out about the idea. Y’all have to get past these attempts to brush off the batshit crazy stuff your elected reps are doing by trying to say the Democrats would have done the same. It’s simply not true. At some point you’re going to have to come to terms with the fact that you’ve allowed your party to be run by whackjobs to a degree never seen in either party in living memory. You want to be taken seriously, tell Crenshaw and Cruz where to stuff it. Because right now, all we see is a party that still thinks Trump won the election and was willing to storm the capitol and kill people to overthrow a legitimate presidency, and now thinks that a troop of healthcare advocates and church volunteers are going to forcibly vaccinate people in their homes, and it’s really hard to take anything you say seriously after that. (ETA: and actually, no. Very few have given reasons other than “y’all would have been mad too” and “it’s not your business.” There was a halfhearted thing about the potential cost, which rings pretty hollow given that we have no idea what specific plans are, and some people said it it would be annoying. Annoying, sure, but the enormous threat your party leaders seem to think? Haven’t yet seen anyone actually give a reason why this is a threat to anyone.)
