This challenge is for those who scrap slowly and need encouragement to keep scrapping all month or those who want a little encouragement to continue scrapping. It is great for those new to Challenges and is a fun place to come chat with other Pokey scrappers. 1. Post a layout each week, or four layouts per month. These can be posted in the thread or in the gallery. If you post in the gallery, be sure to come to the thread and tell us you posted and tell us the name of the layout so we can find it. You can copy the URL from the gallery and paste it directly into your thread for a link. 2. This challenge can be combined with any other challenges and can be paper, digital or hybrid scrapping. These can be cards, layouts or altered items or any other creative projects. 3. Please comment on the work of others on the thread as your time allows. We all love comments on our layouts. 4. Have fun with this! This should be a "no pressure" challenge. Just post what you finish whether it is one layout or more than four. Come chat with the group as time permits. We love to welcome new members . If you are doing the Team Challenges, this challenge is worth one point for each page when you complete all 4. So that's 4 points for completing the Pokey Pea Challenge.

Welcome to August. The children will be back in school soon and we will be looking for Fall Decor. This year, and especially this summer, has gone so quickly.
Come join us for another month of scrapping!

Thank you nylene! We did back to school shopping today - yikes. Usually I try to do it the weekend BEFORE the tax free weekends start - but that was last weekend and we were sick. We only went to Target really but it was packed with screaming people. DD21 was overwhelmed which made her snappy and grumpy which put a damper on things - I was surprised when she joined us and sad to say, I wish she had stayed home. I usually enjoy BTS...especiallys school supplies but not so much this year. We're almost done though - still need sneakers and a hoody for DD14. Orientation is Friday and she goes back on the 11th.

Good Sunday morning Pokeys. Just came in from picking raspberries. Hoping to work on a birthday card for a bit this morning. This afternoon we will be heading out to the lake to hang out with dd & family at their holiday trailer. It's National Sisters Day Right back at ya, MARIBETHR! I need to send a group text to a set of sister dgd's. When they spent summers here, we celebrated Sisters' Day with all kinds of special activities, from crafting to games to just making the day special for each other. I have an RAK box received from gramma sitting unopened under my scrap counter like a Christmas present waiting for December 25th. Hoping to meet up with justjac sometime this month to check out exactly what scrappy goodness is inside... If you hear screaming and shouting up north it's cuz we are fighting over the contents, but I don't think it will come to that. August will be busy. The garden still has stuff to harvest. Dd & family will be back to park the trailer in our yard and spend a few hours here tomorrow (a holiday here in Alberta). This upcoming weekend our local town is celebrating Heritage Day with a bunch of events and our ds & family are driving up from the Calgary area for three days here. Dd & family will be here as well, sleeping in their holiday trailer on our yard. Then on the 11th we are scheduled to fly to BC to spend a week with our ds & family there. We will arrive home on the 17th--our anniversary. Then the week of the 21st I belive our other son from Calgary will be making the trip up here with the family for a few days. So lots of photos... Not many pages til things settle down a bit, I think. Thanks for the new thread, nylene. Have a wonderful AUGUST, everyone!

Happy Sisters Day MARIBETHR and all the Pokies! grammadee - sounds like a fun and busy month with family! And how exciting to have a Gramma RAK box - enjoy! DH and DD14 went into the big city to the Lego Store and IKEA today so I'm having a scrappy day. Made a few more birthday cards and am now back to working on the 2009 Disney album

We are getting rain tonight...lots, and lots of rain. We have sandbagged the door to the basement and hope we don't have another "swimming pool" in the carport by morning. Even if it should fill up, we are pretty sure that the sand bags and plastic around the door will save the basement this time. This time we got the car out of the carport just in case. All we need is a car full of water again. We have been praying for rain for weeks so the crops can grow, but it's hard when it comes all at once!
Happy Sisters Day to each of you. I so enjoy chatting and knowing all of you.

Hope none of that water came in to where it did not belong, nylene. Seems like there is no medium. When everything is so dry that much rain can lead to all kinds of havoc. Still next to no moisture here. We need as much as you are getting, but not all at once!

Happy Sisters Day to my scrappy sisters. I had a lovely visit last week with my sister and my mom at my sister’s house. We did a little shopping and a little cooking and a lot of talking.
We’re packing up to spend at least four days in the city. My father-in-law is having heart surgery tomorrow. We are glad it is finally happening after it was bumped three times. He will probably be in the hospital for three weeks so DH and his brother will alternate being there with their mom. I will go this time, but might stay home next time. FIL is allowed two visitors which would leave me sitting at the hotel alone. But we’ll see.
I have three more weeks before I’m back to work. I can’t believe how fast summer flew by.

justjac, I hope things go well with you DFIL's surgery. Isn't it amazing what can be done for hearts these days. Sending thoughts and prayers for him, your family and for the doctors who are working with him. It doesn't seem possible for you to be starting school again. Didn't you just finish your teaching? Will you have in-person classes this year? grammadee, you have a busy time coming up. I hope your travel goes smoothly and that you have a great time with family. Thanks for all you do here, setting up teams and keeping us all scrapping. You are a gem! refugeepea and I had a delightful morning shopping together. She brought her children so I got to meet them too. I can't believe how much that warehouse holds. I was fearful that she would drive clear down here and find it not worth the drive. We shopped for about 2 hours and then went to lunch. She is so sweet and I am very impressed with her mothering skills with her children. She's amazingly calm no matter what happens. By using his talking ipad her son told me "I love you" before they left. That really touched me. refugeepea is an phenomenal woman! I wish every Pea could have been with us today. Our sandbags held last night and we will leave them because it's supposed to rain hard again tonight. My flowers are loving the rain, but the wind....not so much. It has rained on and off all day, just a soft rain that will not do damage. We do need the moisture, just not the flooding. I'm off to try to find space to put away my purchases. I was very conservative, but it was my third trip during this closing sale!

Good morning, Pokeys! kitbop, I hope your camping trip is getting off to an uneventful start and will be a wonderful summer adventure for you and yours. I hope Linda and joyfulnana are feeling better this month. Thoughts are with justjac and family. Spent the morning doing laundry and making beds upstairs, where ds & family will be sleeping this upcoming weekend. Spent another hour clearing the kids' play area in the basement. When we have just one kid here, it doesn't get used much and tends to get filled up with "stuff"--which I had to stuff somewhere else so three of them will have time to move down there this weekend. Craftwise, I am being truly pokey this month so far. Have Linda's card ready to go into the mail, but don't want to share it yet and spoil the fun when she opens it. Have started a page based on last Saturday's sketch. That page has been sitting on my scrap counter since Saturday. I go by it and add one thing; take something off; move other pieces around; get an idea for something that will make the page work; promptly forget that idea by the time I get back... Was thinking it would be fun to set up a little Olympics for the kids for the weekend, but not sure I have the imagination or the skill to put something together. Was thinking of having events like Ladder Golf, Bocce Ball, Badminton, Obstacle Course, Slip-n-Slide, and then indoor stuff like Shuffleboard and card games. Maybe I will just stay out of their fun-making, snap a bunch of photos of it, and then SCRAP it as if it were the Olympics? I want the boys to enjoy the weekend together, not get into conflict over who is a winner and who is a loser... Now I want to figure out how to create 5 Olympic ring frames for the kids to pose with. Maybe I should just get back to housecleaning, though. That, I know how to do. Don't LIKE to do it. But I do know HOW.

Happy Tuesday! My dh had a vacation day yesterday and I am still thinking it's Monday!!! LOL! We had a fun weekend. Sunday we went to one of the local indoor malls for the first time in a long while. They have made some changes to it with new and different stores and it was fun to walk around and see the sights. I got a $100 gift card to the skin care store called Lush so I wanted to go in person to see their products and pick out a few things. It was a nice store and all the products are all natural. I got $60 worth of lotions, a hair product, a facial mask and still have money left to get more items later. Monday, we went to the beach and relaxed. Afterwards, we walked around the village to see some of the shops and we found a few really cute ones. Can't wait to go back there soon. My dh will have his official vacation later this month for several days so we are thinking about what we will do. justjac- Prayers are with you and your dh's father. Hang in there! nylene- What a fun time you had shopping with refugeepea! I wish I could of been there! grammadee- Your Olympic theme sound so fun and I know the kids will have a ball! Have fun preparing! linda & joyfulnana- Hope you gals are continuing to feel better. Waving hi to you all and have a good evening!

grammadee - what about hula hoops for Olympic rings? nylene - can you send some of that rain down my way? Our state is burning up again! justjac - any surgery is scary - but heart surgery? It's SCARY!!!! There is no "oops" room. I'll you all in my thoughts. refugeepea - isn't Nylene just the sweetest thing? I'm a bit jealous that you got to spend time with her.

justjac - so glad his surgery went well. Prayers for continued recovery refupea and nylene - how fun! kellyr21 - sounds like you and dh had an awesome long weekend! Hi to everyone else! I'm still not feeling 100% - no energy and I'm still coughing. And it's STILL raining here...this has been the greyest, wettest summer I can remember. So much for the sunshine state. orientation was cancelled at the high school due to covid but they are doing small group tours - by appointment and just the student, no parents. So DD14 will do that tomorrow morning instead. School district's hands are pretty much tied - our governor has threatened to pull state funding from any school district that implements mask mandates, they aren't allowed to open late, or to offer virtual/hybrid. Have I mentioned how much I hate our governor?

what about hula hoops for Olympic rings? I thought of that, but then dd offered to help her 8 yr old to create some rings somehow today. Or to bring some poster paint so the kids can make them here. I'm a bit jealous that you got to spend time with her. You don't GET to be jealous! At least you MET her in person! Would LOVE to do that! School district's hands are pretty much tied - our governor has threatened to pull state funding from any school district that implements mask mandates, they aren't allowed to open late, or to offer virtual/hybrid. This boggles the mind! Our province is gearing up for full time in school classes this year, removed the requirement for testing as kids arrive at school, and they are removing the mandate for automatic isolation for people with symptoms. Dgs is going back in person in September. His mom is thinking she will be sick all fall. (She is highly susceptible to airway infections due to her asthma. She has not had a bronchitis or pneumonia incident since Covid began, and attributes that to isolation, masks, and ds not being in direct contact with kids with colds.

justjac, I am so happy to hear that Dean's dad came through the surgery and is recovering. That is pretty scary stuff! I hope he gets stronger each day. Linda, I am sorry you are still feeling tired and coughing. Please take it easy and get lots of rest. Your governor sounds like our Legislature. They have taken the mask mandate out of the hands of the Governor, out of the hands of the School Districts and out of the hands of the State Health Dept. The Legislature is going to make the decisions...... since they are all so schooled in science, etc...NOT! A bunch of dummies is more like it! grammadee, the Olympics with the grands sounds like such fun. I hope you have a wonderful time and that the kids will never forget these days. Travel safely. kellyr21, I am glad you had a great weekend with your DH. Will you have concerts every Wed through August? Are masks required? People around here are wearing masks again at many of the stores. gramma, what fun project are you working on? I miss chatting on the Online Crop. Do you have to have a paid Google acct to set up the Google meet. I have just a free email account. Would that mean I could only host for an hour? joyfulnana, are you totally back to health now? I hope so. How is work going? Is Rudy going back to in-person school this fall? I hope the Covid numbers are not high in your area. I have been trying for a week to contact our son. He's very busy and sometimes he ignores his phone. We just found out he and his wife both have Covid and have been sick for 15 days. His wife is on oxygen, and they are really sick. Even feeling that they are on death's door, they don't believe in the vaccine! I am so irritated. I really thought they were smarter than that. That means no one in his family (kids and inlaws are vaccinated. I worry about little Swayzee and her other set of great-grandparents. How can the vaccine be a political issue!!

Oh nylene. I hope Swayzee's family is all okay (including parents/aunts/uncles/grandparents). I hate Covid! Not only did it kill a bunch of people, it has caused deep hurtful divisions in families and communities. Even among people our age, who should KNOW better, having lived through the polio epidemic before the vaccine. Even antibiotics have made a HUGE difference in people's lives, and many don't realize what a miracle they are. All the advances in health care so that fewer moms and babies die at childbirth, more cancer patients survive to lead happy productive lives. How can they not see the Covid vaccine as just another development along this same path? I have a ds who believes that the whole reaction to covid was completely over the top, and that many of the measures put in place to contain it are actually measures to contain HIM. He and his wife both had mild covid symptoms earlier this spring, but never were tested. His ds and dd were there that weekend, as well as ds's girlfriend, and they all got sick. Again, not seriously. But they WERE tested and were positive. I almost wish the nay sayers were the ones who got a bigger blast of the symptoms--not that I am wishing dire consequences on them. By having mild cases, they felt justified in their belief that covid was no big deal. Hoping your ddil is recovering and that your ds and family are coming through this to a complete recovery.

nylene - I'm so sorry that covid is divisive in your family. Prayers for Swayzee's extended family and ((((Hugs))) for you. grammadee - I'm sorry that you've had divisions in your family as well. ((((Hugs))) I'm still coughing, still tired, but I did manage to scrap today - finished the 2009 Disney album. Last night I borrowed DD14's alcohol markers and coloured some gnomes. I got this set in the mail along with the matching dies... www.scrapbook.com/store/ppp-tnt9727.htmlDD got to do a small group tour of the high school today and got her schedule. She's happy with everything except theatre - she hadn't put it on her wishlist for electives but there weren't spots in either French or Welding so she got theatre. I'm not thrilled either since there's afterschool/evening committments and she already planned to join Academic Team which is a full year committment (twice a week practices plus tournaments). In fact the academic team coach is a FB friend and reached out to me today after seeing her name on one of his class rosters (AP Human Geography) to make sure she was joining academic team.

Hey Pokey's! It looks like everyone has lots going on! I've been lurking some, but coming out to post lol. justjac I'm glad you're FIL went through the surgery well! I got your card the other day. It made my day! Thank you so much it made me smile! nylene I'm so sorry you are having that fight about vaccination in your family. (((hugs))). I hope they will change their minds. What a great day with @refugee pea! That thread warmed my heart watching you two plan for your outing. Is your rain gone now? Linda, for the record I hate your governor too. Right along with mine. I know you got a negative test, but isn't odd how that hard that first cold hits? I wasn't in bed, but it was the worst cold I've ever had. haha, I'm still not convinced lol. Great job getting your Disney album finished. I loved seeing your kids when they were younger. grammadee (((hugs))) to you too. I hate Covid so much! For the same reasons. I hate what it's doing to relationships. The people I know at work that aren't getting the shots are the 20-late 30s that had mild cases last summer and think it's no big deal. Using the "it's not FDA approved" and "I have antibodies" arguments. Although guy made a good point. He felt that buy calling it a vaccine, they have given people the impression they can't get it once they have the shots. Similar to polio and smallpox vaccines. He said maybe if they had called it the "Covid shot" people wouldn't be so hesitant. IDK, I just wish we could enough people vaccinated to get it under control. Ugh. Sorry, this is still such a hot button for me, obviously lol. Rudy starts first grade Thursday in person. And thankfully his school district voted to mandate masks for K-12 students and all unvaccinated staff. I knew his parents would want him masked, but if he was the only in glass wearing one, he would ditch it. It was a huge relief when the school mandated them. gramma how are things there? I keep seeing these big fires are North of Sacramento and I wonder how near they are to you. And you too kellyr21, are they anywhere near you? The Western peas have been on my mind. I'm feeling back to 100% (whatever that is really) for a couple weeks now. I'm still tired but not from being sick, just from getting old LOL! I had Rudy last night, his dad had a show. Their first live show since Covid. All safety measures in place. He said it went terrible lol. But man Rudy has soooo much energy! He starts the minute he opens his eyes too! When they left today, I took a two hour nap. I needed a do over for the day! lol. I want to scrap, but it's been so long I don't know where to start. The last sketch I posted has been laying on the table, and I think I'm just going to jump in and make a page - any page! Even if I don't like it, at least the gears will be turning again. This summer has gone so fast! It feels like we jumped from April to August overnight! I hope you all are having a good day!

Hi to all the pokey peas! We had a great camping trip. Only had rain one overnight period...unfortunately, the one right before we left so packing up was a little damp...but really, I think some of the idiosyncrasies of camping make it fun. Like weather that's weather (check), noisy neighbours (check), someone calling "Niko? Niko?" and unzipping your tent door at 2AM (yup), or bear sightings right on your campsite the day before you arrive. Or draining the battery of your week-old new vehicle because you didn't realize leaving the doors open would leave all the screens on in the car (we're newbies to having informational displays in the car!). nylene - I'm going to struggle with having adults who have different opinions in the family. Different can be OK, but when it's uninformed or dangerous to health, it's hard to accept. Currently, with all our kids living at home, they all still tend to think along parallel lines with us. But I know when they move away that won't be the case. I sure diverged from my parents when I moved out! joyfulnana Linda - we too have our first cold. DH started the day before we left camping, and all 9 of us fell to it over the course of camping. My niece and I got walloped the worst. It is definitely a cold - we are ALL double vaxed, so even if DH had covid, we wouldn't have ALL got it like this. And there were no fevers, fatigue or loss of smell Just sore throat, bronchitis/cough, snotty fun. DS, with the constitution of the ox, snotted for 48 hours and shook it off. I'm on day 4 but improving. On our covid front, we are still under mask mandates with no talk of removing them. However, my region is at 74% double vaxed (over the age of 12). Hooray! I think that's pretty good myself. Question - don't really expect an answer - why, oh why, is it conservative/republican/religious leaning areas that are under vaxed. How on God's green Earth did this become political? or religious? I just can't wrap my head around it. I'd like to just say "not my circus, not my monkeys" but this is everyone's health and family and future we are playing with! justjac - is your FIL recovering well? Sounds like BIG surgery to be 3 weeks in hospital! It's amazing what they can fix nowadays. grammadee - did you have a good time with the kids this weekend? I bet you're exhausted! kellyr21 - Lush came from England to Vancouver BC 25 years ago. It was very trendy at the time. And I always hated the smell of it!!! Plus, so much of it was bath bombs and I'm a shower gal. But I know it's a reputable brand/good products so I hope you enjoy your GC. I too am amazed at how summer is flying by. But I am looking forward to maybe some online 2peas cropping in the fall??? It's something to look forward to for sure!

Happy Monday! Waving hi and hope you all are having a nice day. I was so excited yesterday. Our local art gallery has an open call for artists to be apart of their next event for Sept. I filled out my application yesterday and sent it in. I hope I get selected so fingers crossed and prayers up. Not sure when they will let us know if we were selected but maybe next week. I entered my "Field of Rest" painting for the art and the inspirational message. Did you all get an $50 gift card after your vaccine? Not sure if it is a California thing, but I got a notification about about a gift card. I just got mine over the weekend and was happily surprised. nylene - Hope your family is getting through all the challenges. My prayers are with you all. This situation has been so stressful and I hope it comes to an end SOON! I got your DM and I am so excited! Thanks again!!! kitbop - What a fun camping trip. I haven't been camping in like forever! LOL! Yes, Lush was a fun store. I have tried a few of the products and you are right about the smell! LOL! One of the lotions I used yesterday didn't smell that great. I put some mango lotion on top to cover the bad smell and it still smelled! LOL! I do like the grapefruit body wash. I bought 5 or 6 items and I am seeing how I feel about them. So far I like all except that lotion. joyfulnana - We are safe and no fires here. These fires here in CA have been so crazy over the years and I hope those families are getting the help they need. I can't even imagine going through that. Waving hi and hope you are feeling good today. linda - Hugs to ya and hope you are feeling better, too. maribeth - Fun to see your courthouse pictures. Do you know how many you have done? grammadee - How was your family time? Glad you were able to spend some time with them.

Question - don't really expect an answer - why, oh why, is it conservative/republican/religious leaning areas that are under vaxed. How on God's green Earth did this become political? or religious? I just can't wrap my head around it. I'd like to just say "not my circus, not my monkeys" but this is everyone's health and family and future we are playing with! kitbop, that is my feeling precisely. I don't understand people who don't listen to the science. Our County is 41% vaccinated. That is tragic! How can they not see the Covid vaccine as just another development along this same path? grammadee, I remember the polio epidemic so well. I taught school with a woman who was badly crippled by polio. Mom kept us home in the early 50's until we were able to get the shot, which was the early immunization before the sugar cube. The schools bussed us to the High School and EVERY student was vaccinated. I think our parents were smarter than people rejecting this now. kellyr21, I am thrilled that you have entered for your Art Show. You definitely have my vote. I love your paintings. I am in charge of our Family Reunion in 2 weeks. I have called all my siblings to see what their feelings are about Covid and gathering. No one seems in the slightest worried but DH and me. Since we are in charge we have to go. It is stressing me. We will be outside most of the time, but will have to go in to dish up the food. I guess I am just a worry-wart, but I hate to be in charge of a Super Spreader. Can you tell I'm stressed right now! Thanks for letting me let off some steam.
