Has anyone made a lift the flap page using an actual photo? I took a photo of one of my kids’ stockings on a white background. I want to fussy cut around the stocking and put journaling behind the photo. Not sure if I’m better off completely cutting the photo and using a hinge or if the photo paper will score well enough. Thoughts? I have tried doing cardstock and then doing the fold after I adhere the photo. I don’t like it. It’s too thick. Now I do a thinner piece of cardstock folded and then cut the photo to do the flap or a hinge. Yeah, photo paper doesn't often like to bend properly to begin with but it's going to be a stiffy (hehe) even if you manage to get a clean, crisp fold. I definitely join ecvnj58 's recommendation of creating a paper base and then cutting your photo to leave out a thin strip where the paper fold does its job.

We are now 1/3 into the glorious month of December! 2/3 to go. For those who are documenting in real time: how is it going? Do you need to catch up? For those gathering photos and journaling: are you up to date? Are you ready to start creating soon? DECEMBER 10 Space //Photo prompt: Here's a prompt that will take you to many places... Take a moment to think of the space(s) of your December life. Do you most enjoy the big, wide stretches of nature on your walks? Is your everyday space different due to a fresh empty nest, moving because of the pandemic, etc.? Is your personal space under attack due to gifts waiting to be put under the tree? Try to shoot so that your photo fits of the entire space. Step back, stand on a chair or use your camera's panorama mode. Story prompt: "Mine + Yours" Take a look at the different spaces you and your SO/child(ren)/pet/BFF are loving this month. Contrast your favourite spaces in your spread. Think of where each of you prefer to go right now and list the reasons why. Is one of you outdoorsy, the other more of a hibernating-safe-and-warm-inside person? Song of the day:

So far I have front page, day 1, day 2, day 3, and day 4 done! Just need to journal a little for day 4 - Uni of Michigan football winning Big 10 Championship. Switching a few days around. Day 5 will be about new ornaments. Then day 6 will be about the tree. I want that in a full-page protector.
Question: I am having a hard time keeping some of the 4x6 photos in the page protectors. I or DS turn the page and they fling out. Just the ones at the top. Any ideas on how to deal with this?

That's a very real problem - one of the reasons I didn't enjoy pocket pages. I think it can happen when the pocket is too loose or there's a bulky element on the card. Solutions - make the pocket as tight as possible by matting the card inside to barely any smaller than the pocket space, or permanently attach the card in the pocket with a little adhesive or a staple... or staple/sew/tape/fuse the pocket shut. I wasn't a big fan of any of those solutions. Hopefully some pocket page experts will make better suggestions. I think most people just turn carefully and tuck the cards back in, but that's not very user friendly, especially not for your son.

What is it about December 9th that makes everyone go "argh, how is it almost Christmas and I haven't done any of the Christmas things??!?!" Even someone I follow for home design was having the same reaction yesterday.
I think I've gotten over most of my declutter-related freaking out (sold two pieces blocking easy movement around the house, have a plan for another, and sold one box of Christmas plates! 1 out of 9, but still, it was a victory getting them listed!) and I'm going to try to settle into some holiday spirit and make/write some cards. I'm also going to write myself a note to read after Halloween next year reminding me to get everything important done before Thanksgiving.
Also SIL says my 12yo nibling is keen to have a real camera instead of just taking photos with a phone so guess what we're going to be doing while he's here?! Auntie's crash course in all things photography! I have 100 years of cameras from his grandparents to show him and some B&W Polaroid film to play with (hoping the Polaroid 600 Land Camera actually works). He's got a good eye and a good brain for numbers/math so we might have to sit down and play with manual mode. SO exciting.

If you have the WRMK Fuse tool, you can either fuse the pocket shut or add a discreet extra fused line at the inner seam (where the strip with the holes is) that will make the pocket effectively less wide.

I matted the photo and the opposite side journaling on heavy cardstock. That seemed to do the trick. FIngers crossed!

Hail to Pitt! :-) As for your pocket issue..I've found if I tape the cards, photos etc together they tend to stay in the pockets. Hope that helps.

For anyone that's following Shimelle's Journal your Christmas, how do you feel about the inconsistant new videos? I know that I'm getting access to the class content year after year with just one payment, and she is linking old entries on the days she doesn't have one ready. I'm just slightly disappointed that she's not posting a new video of her entries every day. I didn't realise how much I look forward to my daily dose of her talking through her process as she puts a page together. I'm not particularly upset about it, just wondering if anyone else following the class has a preference for all new content or couldn't care less?

I'm probably feeling about the same as you - sad when there isn't anything new or if it's just a tiny bit like the tag embellishing day, but also not surprised and not too bothered. I don't usually watch the previous year's video since I've seen it before. I think with WB being older and busier plus making his own videos plus having the Share Your Christmas class to run too (which I haven't actually remembered to go look at this year) plus Lives twice a week and all the other everyday life stuff... well, it's a lot! So I get it. But I'm also hoping things settle a bit soon, maybe once school is out for break, and we get more videos.

Since she started doing them I've used them as a way to wind down at the end of the day. This year has been busier and crazier than ever at work, and I haven't really started doing any entries in my album, which are the times I most want to have a new video. I quite like the videos like the tags, so even if she wasn't making and sharing a page in her album, I'd be quite happy to find a 3 or 4 min embellishment video. Like joblackford, I've already seen the prior years videos so I haven't been watching those, just feeling disappointed that there have been so few new videos this year.

With the new job starting this past Monday, I had pages almost completed for Days 7-10, because they were halfway foundations pages already. I think I will be joining the ranks of getting this done in January, as the spare time in the evenings is pretty small. AND I'm way behind on watching any of my favorite YT scrappers pages! Oh well, it will keep me occupied in January..and maybe Feb. Now I need to focus on taking pics, and journaling so I will remember my days!

Quick question- I’m using a 6x8 binder - which brands have page protectors with 2x2 sections? Thanks!

I think Shimelle has done that the past few years. I remember the first year I signed up and was disappointed that there wasn't actually a new video every day. Now I just check in from time to time or catch up on the weekend.
Ali is killing it this year, I think. I love her last few days. It makes me feel like this is doable for me even though we're not out-and-about as much as usual this year because of covid. New ornaments, gingerbread houses, little pockets - I love it all.

I am really enjoying her videos - I feel like she’s being way less polished and just letting us come along as she thinks and creates. I totally love it. You can tell she’s in a good place creatively. AND, I have to admit this years kit has been a lot more fun and versatile than I anticipated! Also loving having the DD design team and seeing so many ideas.

Being perfectly honest here, I haven't scrapped one page yet. I got as far as my stuff is assembled and I pulled out my DD stamps. That's it. I haven't even watched any of Ali's videos. This month has been more busy for me and I'm going to give myself some grace and just commit to a picture a day and I'll assemble the album later. I just don't have it in me right now.

Since this is my first year, I have a question. Does every day need to be numbered? Does anyone here number some days but not all?
I am documenting things that happen and will number those. But like my spread about new ornaments didn't happen on x day because we bought them back in November. And the tree didn't go up on x day.
Trying to figure this out...

Ali doesn't number her pages per se. She will tell a story that happened in November and number it with whatever story number it is in her album. I usually start my album when something Christmas-sy happens (like my niece picking ornaments for me in September!). Since these stories are far apart, I just write the date on a label. In December, I number every day. There were times in the past when I skipped a couple of days, too. This year, I'm thinking of just writing the date even in December, to loosen the pressure of doing something "worthy" every day.
