She mentioned something about it in her video today, that they essentially served their purpose for inspiration and getting her into the project but that some of them won't get used. That's a valid way to see things, but most of us (I'm guessing) wouldn't want to throw away foundation pages that we'd made and not used, but keeping a bunch of unused pages is a pain in the butt to manage and I would feel pressured to use them even if they didn't fit with a future year's supplies. I'm trying to learn to throw away practice things that didn't work out but it's hard for me, even knowing they served a purpose.

I think I mentioned this to you on Instagram but I've been using my prepped pages, for the most part. One I made was a few tag-shaped windows that you would lift up to see xmas movies underneath. I may use it next year. It's just white. I spent time cutting it but I don't care if I ever use it. It's just paper. I still have 7 - 8 days left so I may use this vellum thing I worked on for hours. I was modifying a digital file that I bought to overlay a page and it just didn't look right. It's 4X8 so I will probably use it next year. I made a bow onto acetate that I really want to use. I also cut a thick sheet of plain acetate down so that I could put a number on it and have a cool layer. That's not going to go bad. I printed out some December Daily stuff to use for a DD spread but now I'm not feeling that. I don't think I want to make a whole spread about DD so I don't know. Again, recycle or use next year. Every year I pack away all the DD supplies in the same bin so it's not like a couple extra pieces of paper are going to break that space. I have used a LOT of product this year and super happy about that. I love what I have so far, now that I have a lot to flip through I'm less picky about how each page needs to be perfect. I just enjoy crafting whether I use it or not.

What has happened with Shimelle? Iāve participated in JYC since the beginning and even the year she had an infant she managed to post a short video most days. Missing her daily inspiration.

Strange - I've been getting her daily prompts ok. You can always go into the forum, where you can find the daily pdfs to download - I found I was missing one of them and found it there to complete the set ;-) Perhaps there's an issue with your email? He admin are usually quite good at sorting it out. (Note at the bottom of today's prompt : Remember: If you don't know your username or password, please email alice.shimelle.com@gmail.com and we will get that sent out to you. (The 'forgotten password' link is not a great success currently because too many email providers block the password message as spam! So just send an email. It's no problem.)"

So on the topic of Krumpus...if you know anyone in the Inland Empire of California, a coffee shop called Roast the Dead in Yucaipa has a Krumpus and the little character animal thingy you can take your photo with.
Roast the Dead is super cool because it is Halloween themed with Fredy K and other notable Halloween horror characters.

Oh my, sorry ladies, I totally forgot to post the prompt today so here it is (just a liiiiitle late)... DECEMBER 22
ACCIDENT //Photo prompt: Oops, did something just go wrong? Of course it did. We're only human after all. Document evidence of imperfection and brush it off as a memory as good as any other. Life is also made up of wrong turns and unexpected obstacles we trip over. Did you burn a batch of cookies? Did your dog go a little wild as you were away? Muddy boot prints in the entrance after an afternoon outside? Children's finger prints all over the glass after putting up some seasonal window stickers? It's all good and worth capturing. Bigger stories also come in flawed, small details. Story prompt: "The oh-no list" List all the little things went haywire in your build-up to the big celebration day. Ingredients you forgot to buy and had to run out for all of a sudden or borrow from a neighbour, broken ornaments, a gift you forgot to order, an order that didn't get delivered on time, your new black kitten *cough Milo cough* taking down your kid's Christmas tree, etc. Consider adding a classic line from one your favourite Christmas stories to end the page like "[We] did it all; and infinitely more." from The Christmas Carol. Christmas also comes through those cracks and bumps... Song of the day:

Also, that awkward moment those who followed and scraplifted her foundation pages realise they won't be able to see how AE used them and will have to improvise. Some people rely on her creativity and take on things. Eep!

TBH I'm not surprised, 2 years into the pandemic chaos, a lot of people are a bit frazzled. I know I am. She said WB has more stuff going on out and about, and she's trying to run two classes. And she had computer problems in the middle of the month. I appreciated her adding her older videos for the next few days, very nice for first timers, but a bit of a bummer for long timers who have already seen all the videos. I'm missing the little daily updates too.

I can watch Ali & a ton of other old DD videos and walkthroughs in YT for free, with much more navigation ease. I think Shimelle is awesome, but this JYC is a mess. Iām considering the $ I paid as a contribution to support her general scrappiness. Thatās what mental gymnastics I came up with to not just be beyond irritated with this content.

I'm a first timer too and I feel lost. I tried reading a few of the prompts but it didn't spark anything for me. I planned to try the videos later. I still haven't gotten back to it. This Christmas feels too weird. Our tree is up but not decorated. We went to see an event at a decorated 19th century village with my sister, her kids and my dad. It was fun but I keep thinking about how my sister's husband never goes to these things. My sister says they are headed to divorce. I worry about the kids and about saying the wrong thing to them (they don't know). That is how my december feels: some good and some bad.

It's never until the end of the month that I think documenting those things that weren't perfect. I think I will look for a story like that tomorrow! 1. Thanks for the kitten photos, I love black kitties but am super allergic so canāt get oneā¦yetā¦ 2. Iāve always collated the things that go wrong and have a Christmas fails page each year - presents that break the minute theyāre opened, when I forgot to give the kids about four gifts until January even though they were wrapped and near the tree, my mum unwrapping and eating one of her gifts and then rewrapping it hoping we wouldnāt notice, my son getting a vomit bug on dec 23ā¦ I think collating them in the one place makes them easier to ādigestā or write about and, over time, having the one place that shows the reality of the poop show Christmas can be at times makes for a funny page to read in later years instead of the perfect pictures and pages documenting the rest of December. Awesome prompt! 3. This year the poop show is once again covid, we have gone from 200 cases in the state to 4000 a day in just a week as they relaxed check ins and mask wearing rules in my state. Right before Christmas. What. A. Sh*t show. And now that masks arenāt mandatory the government are scared to go back and say that they are again so they stay popular. Iād rather wear a mask and check in and not be in quarantine for Christmas, problem is not everyone else agrees so going to the local shops is turning into an episode of the hunger games or something šš canāt get sick, have immune compromised family that would die if they got a cold let alone covid. So glad we quarantined. And home schooled. And kept away. For it to all go to hell at Christmas. 4. Rant over! Will try to reload pics of some pages from this year again tonight, have three years albums on the go at once so two albums have 6x8 paged and this years is 3x8 and snoopy snoopy snoopy š

elegantsufficiency Iāve been receiving her daily emails/prompts, she hasnāt been uploading a daily video as she has in previous years. Iām missing them. Aaah...I see. I've watched a few of the videos linked in the daily prompt, but will admit to not watching all of them or noticing others that are missing. This year more than ever, I've not really had time to give the daily emails as much attention as I have done in the past - neither have I kept up with my journal, but saved the prompts and will return to it after Christmas. I'm a long time subscriber to JYC - I believe I subbed in the very first year Shimelle offered it - and as a result, I am probably a little relaxed about it. joblackford I believe you're correct. Quite how she manages all of that I have no idea. Except it's a job to be balanced with home life in the same way as any other. At this time of the year in particular, though, I can see how things might turn tricky. I wonder how much she does in advance?

Now he's very loudly eating dry food. I've never had a cat eat so loudly. I think he thinks he's a monkey or something. He only wants to climb. At least he's eating cat food and not trying to pry bananas off the kitchen counter (yet)... He sounds like a fun handful to have around the house! I bet he'll settle and grow into some snuggliness when he's less of a teenager. Hang in there (or you know, let him hang all over the place)! Weāre doing three (yes threes) advent calendars and Iām doing a notebook for those. Oooh, that's fun, julie5! We have two calendars on the kitchen table but not gonna lie, I almost ordered a third one... Going to miss popping open little windows once tomorrow is over. I have used a LOT of product this year and super happy about that. I love what I have so far, now that I have a lot to flip through I'm less picky about how each page needs to be perfect. I just enjoy crafting whether I use it or not. Glad to read you're having so much fun just being crafty this December! It can quickly become a burdensome project if you're not enjoying the creative part of it (no matter how elaborate or simple you're doing it). And bonus: you'll have used up a lot of product so that means you can replenish your stash a little next year. What has happened with Shimelle? Iāve participated in JYC since the beginning and even the year she had an infant she managed to post a short video most days. Missing her daily inspiration. Man, it's such a bummer for me too! I'd gotten used to watching her daily video and either crafting along or getting some inspiration. It was my daily break with a cup of hot tea or coffee. This feels so off for me. I'm barely checking in with what she has finished so far. Sorry, no, itās a bummer for first timers too. Iām not seeing the value of the class at all and have been disappointed with it. Apologies for recommending the JYC class. This is the first year she's not doing her usual schedule of daily videos so it's a real bummer and I do feel bad for talking this project up. If pnly I'd known... Ah, this is a really great prompt because I always forget to get photos of things that go wrong. It's never until the end of the month that I think documenting those things that weren't perfect. I think I will look for a story like that tomorrow! There's bound to be some mess with December 24 being just one sleep away! Let the madness commence... (and keep your camera at hand) We went to see an event at a decorated 19th century village with my sister, her kids and my dad. It was fun but I keep thinking about how my sister's husband never goes to these things. My sister says they are headed to divorce. I worry about the kids and about saying the wrong thing to them (they don't know). So sorry your family is going through some struggles and that it's casting a dark cloud over the festivities. That sucks, especially with kids in the mix. Sending you hugs. Here's a look at ~10 spreads from my 5x8 trade book for 2020 JYC Looking great, joblackford! I love the Blurb tradebooks although I've only ever ordered them with a softcover. Do you like the hardcover on this format? Are you using tradebooks for a PL-type of project next year? (I'm seriously tempted.) Hopefully these images will load...some more complete pages from years past.... Yes, I can see them! Love the light/dark contrast you're playing with on your pages, lg. And oh my, those peek-a-boo pictures in the giant gift bag are adorable. Are you also documenting something related to a wildfire?

This Christmas feels too weird. Our tree is up but not decorated. We went to see an event at a decorated 19th century village with my sister, her kids and my dad. It was fun but I keep thinking about how my sister's husband never goes to these things. My sister says they are headed to divorce. I worry about the kids and about saying the wrong thing to them (they don't know). That is how my december feels: some good and some bad. Yes. I feel the same way. It's just a weird year. We are trying to make the best of it. This is a good idea. You want to document it but don't dwell on it. Life is real. In the past I have kept that out of the DD but not this year. Not again. At least he's eating cat food and not trying to pry bananas off the kitchen counter (yet)... He sounds like a fun handful to have around the house! I bet he'll settle and grow into some snuggliness when he's less of a teenager. Hang in there (or you know, let him hang all over the place)! Ha! Yes. He luckily does not care for people food. And since he is a tree dweller we bought an 88" cat tree for him. And silly me didn't consider that the higher you go, the wider they are so this thing is taking up so much space in our tiny living room.

Hi sleepingbooty, the fire page is from the 2019 album I started and have almost finished this year. This page is dedicated to documenting my memories (read trauma) from the 2019 Australian bushfires. The school I work at (and my dad ran/built from scratch) was ringed with fire on all sides but was saved by the grace of God with nothing burning down... to give you an idea of the miracle that this was it has a mine across the road and a petrol station on either side of it with bush surrounding all sides which was on fire. It was a crap Christmas, the sky was yellow and you couldnāt breathe from the smoke, so many families I know had to leave everything and emergency evacuate or spent their time in terror that they would die or their house would burn down. Teachers driving to school with their valued possessions in the car in case their house burned down while they were at work. Everyone was scared and the school kept getting closed as there was no way to escape if the wind turned the wrong way. Yep, all in the journaling shoved in the pocket and it took me two years and a global pandemic going for two years (cos nothing could be worse than the firesā¦yeah right) and ruining two Christmases to be able to write about this crap Christmas. Itās been an interesting three years to say the least!
And the kids fitting in that bag just made my day, wish I was able to š
I have always had a very graphic/stark/simplistic style (with undertones of black rather than the usual white) which I struggle to find replicated in youtubers spreads etc so if anyone has any suggestions for someone I can start watching I would appreciate it! Definitely into the less is more aesthetic, but have to have the pretty stickers too š

I was wondering whether there had been big fires since 2019-early 2020! This makes sense. So sorry you got so close to losing so much, including your workplace. My 2020 PL album has a photo of a koala clinging to the fireman rescuing him/her in January and then The Virus hit so erm, yeah, it's been a shitshow ever since... I hope you'll be able to document nature's regrowth in the future. I have always had a very graphic/stark/simplistic style (with undertones of black rather than the usual white) which I struggle to find replicated in youtubers spreads etc so if anyone has any suggestions for someone I can start watching I would appreciate it! There aren't many YouTubers left in the scrappy sphere these days, most have moved on to being almost exclusively on Instagram. If you like general minimalism and do pocket pages, Juli Makes Things still posts the occasional PL page to YouTube. @anjaturek and @ crafty.kari.crafts are probably my favourite minimalists on Insta but again, they are almost exclusively working with pocket pages.

the fire page is from the 2019 album I started and have almost finished this year. I hope you'll be able to document nature's regrowth in the future.Ā I have always had a very graphic/stark/simplistic style (with undertones of black rather than the usual white) which I struggle to find replicated in youtubers spreads etc so if anyone has any suggestions for someone I can start watching I would appreciate it! I like IG photos and all but love to listen to YT blogs as I craft.
