I have completed 7 stories in the DD I started two days ago. Last night, story 7, was supposed to be very quick and simple, just a lift-up flap on a picket, and it turned into a If You Give of Mouse a Cookie fiasco. I had to just walk away and go to bed. I’m going to move on and ignore it for now. I’ll change it when I’m done if it’s still bothering me. So ridiculous. 🤦🏻♀️

My December Daily supplies are packed up and away until next year. I bought the Citrus Twist 4X8 without thinking. Last year I did 3X8 but we also didn't do anything so most of my stories could easily be one page each (instead of a spread). This year I had only a couple of one-page only days. I don't know if I can do the 4X8 for DD. I love love love the idea of it. But my 6X8 with the thick spine was bursting this year.
I also like the idea of keeping it simple. If Ali has a 6X8 I like, I'll buy it and hold onto the 4X8 for another year.
So many decisions. Luckily I don't have to think about it for a while.

I'm still working on my album, and have 7 pages left to go. I think I've lost my mind though because for one of those I decided to make several 6x8 layouts to put into a pocket as we were on a trip and had several things that day I want to include.
Today is my last day of leave so I want to get at least another couple of pages finished if I can.

Album layout complete. Photos ordered, should be here in a week or so. Someone PLEASE remind me next year that I do not need kits with journal cards in them. I just do not use them. This years album has 3 3x4s and 2 4x6s that really aren’t even necessary. Half of those are printed from IACB digitals.

I finished Day 31 (working way out of order!!) as a "21 in 21". Just 21 random things that happened or things I was grateful for in 21. I random stamped 21 in various sizes over 2 6x8 pages. I cut each line into strips and pasted them on the 2 pages. I then USED UP lots of leftover numbers from various sets to number each line.

Congrats to everyone who has worked so hard to get their albums done! I am still plugging away on mine. My (new) goal is to be done by the end of January. I did make a realization today though that makes me sad. I had printed out the tag freebie from Ali and wanted my sons to write on them. And I forgot to have both boys write on them when they were home. Oldest son can do his next time when he's home from school but DS2 won't be back til July, Anyway, makes me sad that I forgot. Also? I did not get one single daylight photo of either of my trees. I could have sworn I did but nope.

((((Hugs)))) mom - can you mail to your DS2 and have him mail back? I'm hoping to make some progress in my DD today - I did a handful of layouts early in the month and then had to focus on house/family/holiday stuff so just getting back to it now

Then harass him via text until it’s done. 😇 I printed those out too, and need to remember to get my family to complete them asap. I never got a photo of my kids in front of the tree. 🤷🏻♀️ Or any pic of them together at all, except for one quickly taken at Bass Pro on my son’s birthday (end of November). I have no idea how this major oversight occurred. 🤦🏻♀️

Does anyone with an iPhone 12 Pro Max know how to take a bokeh photo of the Christmas tree? I have googled and experimented a lot over the past two weeks...and apparently the iPhone 12 Pro Max is "special" in that it really won't all you to take one of those fab photos of a Christmas tree with blurry lights. I think it is easy with most iPhones. Sadly, I got this iPone last year because I thought it would be great for scrapbooking purposes...

I may have to take his cats hostage or something to get the tag completed...

I'm on day 8 so far. Every year I say I'm going to keep up through the month of December, but then it never happens. I get caught up in all the holiday activities. I should just accept the fact that I never work on my album till after December is over. Good news is that I kept some good notes for journaling, so it should still feel complete when I'm all done.
Congrats to all those who have theirs complete!

You guyssss I am stuck. I always finish my December Daily around New Years, I am just not the kind of person to leave unfinished projects it drives me bonkers. But, this year we had planned to travel from December 25 - January 1 and the month was just so rushed and busy I only completed through Day 15 before we left. Now that we’re back I have zero motivation to work on it, I just feel done with Christmas and want to work on project life and one little word. Thoughts? What should I do? How can I motivate myself to finish?

How can I motivate myself to finish? If you are well and truly over it, maybe finish as a “Christmas in July” project in 2022? That’s how some Aussie scrappers do it as it gives them something to do mid year when it’s our winter. I know Krystal Idunate mentioned in her recent vid she isn’t posting any more 2021 dd content until oct/nov this year (she only posted until half way on YouTube not sure about patreon) so it gets her in the mood for the project then. personally I am still stalking YouTube trying to see as many flip throughs and projects as possible as inspiration to complete my project this year as I’m waiting for the final few photos I had printed to arrive. So scrap and finish it for me?!? 🤣

Thoughts? What should I do? How can I motivate myself to finish? Can you put it away and bring it back out later and still want to complete it? For me, if I put it away, it's probably not happening... /cough Pandemic Album. If you can't, I'd get through it instead of possibly never finishing.

How can I motivate myself to finish? I think it's just a different year for you. This might be the year you don't finish DD in early January for once. You had a busy month, you travelled, you're in the midst of a pandemic with many changes. It's ok. If you're really looking for one last attempt at finishing it right now, I'd just go full out with setting the mood. For me, that's definitely freeing up some alone time without interruptions, getting a festive latte, putting on my favourite holiday music followed by favourite holiday movies (be they of the good kind or of the Hallmark kind). Cutting off the world and jumping into that holiday bubble. But if it doesn't work, drink the latte, set aside the December stuff and do whatever creative thing you feel like doing right now. It's not worth spoiling your crafty fun. There will be moments later in the year when you'll feel reenergised and ready to jump back in. There is Christmas in July, there are the festive feels you get when the DD products begin being shown in August, there is #donebyDecember. Later is fine too.

I returned from Barcelona with a good reminder for EuroPeas: Sweet Möma's Christmas albums are to die for. Sold out almost everywhere now but they'll have another batch next year. Ladies, they are gorgeous IRL. THICK spine with THICK D-rings, super on trend and SO CHEAP in comparison to AE prices (around 12€ - yes, TWELVE EUROS! - per album). I highly suggest looking out for these next autumn if you're shopping in Europe. Several big European scrap vendors like Up&Scrap and Craftelier carry these but they sell like hot cakes so you need to get them as soon as they're in store. The 2021 selection (weep and cry with me for not buying these - I'm particularly upset about the houndstooth):

Holy cow. I love those!! Can we get those in the US (for next year)? Not sure since Sweet Möma is a small indie scrap brand but they release loads of thick spine 6x8 albums. I think the selection above is actually from 2020 but they sold the rest of the stock for the 2021 Diario de Navidad (Christmas Journal/DD) release. You can look at their 6x8 albums on their website and they still have some of the ones I showed above in stock and they do ship to the US but it is likely pretty expensive. ETA: You need to repunch holes in PPs to use these albums (just noticed) as the binder rings are spaced for a European A5 format. This would likely put off resellers from carrying these in the US. Here is the new heart one for 2022: Sweet Möma's albums that have the ribbon showing on the front come with an attached elastic ribbon closure like the Moleskine notebooks. You can see how that looks at the start of this video:

This is what I have been trying, BUT, when I push on the "button" to lock the focus, it starts taking a video, not locking the focus...and I started out in "Photo" mode...so I guess my question is why can't I lock my focus? UPDATE: FRICK!! I fixed it!! Thanks to your link, I was able to search Google for the correct terminology and got the answer. I will be Bokehing away tonight.

amp I just read an article and they said "Apple said the ability to turn off the automatic camera switching will apply to macro video recording as well, but as Wong noted, there is a "Lock Camera" option under Settings > Camera that appears to prevent the switching for video already." Does shutting off that setting allow you to then not record when you try to lock on the screen? From this article, regarding another camera issue for reference: Macro iphone 13

I did some shaped bokeh experiments with my DSLR with help from Amy Gretchen's instructions on YT and they came out pretty fun. I don't know what I'll do with them yet but I had fun trying it out and showing my 12yo nibling and some photo friends (who assumed it was done with an app or filter, not a piece of cardboard!) I used a snowflake punch and a heart punch. Here's a screenshot of some of the results: Shaped bokeh by jo.blackford, on Flickr

I think one of the easiest ways to trick point and shoot cameras is to take a photo where you focus on your finger or a small ornament held fairly close to the phone and position the tree in the background several feet away, ideally a little off to the side of the thing you're focusing on. It will blur the lights when it locks focus on the closer thing. Then crop the close thing out, or leave it in if it's a festive thing (I used some small Santas in the foreground of some shots). Does that make sense? I'm not sure what is special about that particular model but hopefully that helps

I've been working on my 2019 JYC blurb book instead of working on my year in review photo book or a 2021 JYC. I did make a list of the photos/stories I want to include this year though, and working on 2019 is getting me thinking about how to approach this year. I'm hoping I have enough to fill out a book - so far it's looking a bit scant.
Re: 2019 - It's hard/interesting to go back and do a pre-pandemic album without including knowledge of what was coming. I included a photo of the volunteer job I won't be able to go back to thanks to the pandemic and union changes. I probably wouldn't have included it if I'd done my album in 2019 because it never occurred to me that I might not being doing it going forward, which is one of the reasons I think the "everyday life" documenting can be so valuable. But there's no trace of what was brewing in Wuhan in my album which feels weird to me now.

I'm making good progress on my album. I officially still have 5 days to complete, but most of them just need journalling printed and the last embellishments added. The end is most definitely in sight and I should have it finished this coming weekend.
