Re: 2019 - It's hard/interesting to go back and do a pre-pandemic album without including knowledge of what was coming. I included a photo of the volunteer job I won't be able to go back to thanks to the pandemic and union changes. I probably wouldn't have included it if I'd done my album in 2019 because it never occurred to me that I might not being doing it going forward, which is one of the reasons I think the "everyday life" documenting can be so valuable. But there's no trace of what was brewing in Wuhan in my album which feels weird to me now. I can imagine how difficult it is to remain true to the moment, joblackford I was looking through old Christmas journals last evening and was surprised at how much we used to do, pre pandemic. We seemed so relaxed and there were lots of stories of dropping in on friends, impromptu nights out and it all sounded so casual! Having said that, last year's JYC was comparatively empty and a bit sad in some ways: all pre-vaccination of course. Anyway, big news around here is that I'm done. Finished 2021! I included the story of making my Christmas cards using my Silhouette and some metallic Pentel pens. They sent replacements when I moaned how quickly they stopped working! I seem to have quite a few darker pages this year I reached the conclusion that I cut my numbers way too large this year, too. This year's journal is definitely lacking in ephemera because we just didn't do that much I did, however, use the local farm shop's Christmas brochure as the base for the pages about buying our turkey and veg on Christmas Eve there - no supermarket this year. Last but not least, having begun my journal with the first Advent candle lit, I finished with the same, four weeks later Sorry...I don't post anything for weeks and then *boom* there's way too much! But oh, how good it feels to put it all away

It's really weird seeing how simple it all was, how naively we could behave (despite all the other shit going on). Take me back!

Anyway, big news around here is that I'm done. Finished 2021! Yaaaaay! I love how it turned out, elegantsufficiency. The size of the numbers looks good to me, especially considering you've used less embellishments. Great idea using the Advent candles to frame the beginning and the end of the album. And I absolutely love the inclusion of the brochure. It mixes in perfectly with your own photography and colour scheme. Congratulations! (and another tequila slammer to celebrate, amirite? )

Took advantage of a prolonged afternoon break to finish the first 2 pages of my mini DD. Would've gotten around to day 3 as well were it not for the missing photo! (I swear I've printed it out.) Back to WFH for now. I'll go looking for the wandering photo later today.

Managed to get two more spreads done before sundown. Vellum pages for the win! 18 is about watching the Biathlon World Cup in Annecy Le Grand-Bornand while wrapping gifts (Ubi the stoat is Le Grand-Bornand's mascot and she is a star so she got the honours of being featured). 19 is about finally hanging the wreath (no tree for us).

blemon ❤️❤️❤️ For those still working away on their album and wanting some Christmas atmosphere, The Darkness released the video for Christmas Time (still one of my favourite Christmas songs ever, puns included) from their 2020 social distancing livestream concert and they still sound as good as ever:

Marching on quietly with my DD... Got up extra early this morning to do two more spreads. And I broke out the word/phrase stickers! Day 17 is all about binging the second season of The Witcher. Day 20 is dedicated to a Covid-19 situation update in France.

I was just listening to Easter is Cancelled again yesterday and as usual, when Confirmation Bias plays, I have to smile and think of the board because of the "We are the same / We are great / Two peas in a pod" lyrics. They are one of my very top acts to see live, possibly #1. Extremely generous and respectful of their audience on stage. Plus, musically top notch. My last gig before the pandemic (and since as I haven't ventured back into a concert space), too... Here's their show closer at La Cigale in Paris in January 2020:

I've been working on my 2019 JYC blurb book instead of working on my year in review photo book or a 2021 JYC. I did make a list of the photos/stories I want to include this year though, and working on 2019 is getting me thinking about how to approach this year. I'm hoping I have enough to fill out a book - so far it's looking a bit scant. Re: 2019 - It's hard/interesting to go back and do a pre-pandemic album without including knowledge of what was coming. How could we all be so close, even breathing freely near strangers?! Being able to visit a crowded, near bursting, mall to see Santa's Village. The kids' winter concert at school, everyone shoulder to shoulder, singing together, with the parents just as close, trying to get that shot. Layouts with almost too much memorabilia, from all of the things we did. And now? Scant is the right word for it. Mainly home-centric. And outdoors. Seeing Santa, all masked up and socially distanced. Outdoor light shows. No winter concerts at school. It feels very different.

I am done!! I finished my last few pages while listening to Shimelle's Friday live tonight. I'm totally ready to move onto other projects, so tomorrow I'll take a final look through my album then break down what is left of my kit. I'm also pretty pleased with what I ended up using. I got through most of the two die cut packs and I only have 3 puffy stickers left, all generic leaves, and a small number of Christmas specific 3x4 cards. I did a pretty good job on using up my paper as well, my only real downfall was the chipboard which still has a reasonable amount left. I still have a handful of layouts to make for my PL album so I'll be working to use up as much I can. I'll still be cheering on everyone else as you continue working on your albums/layouts.

They didn’t play any of their later stuff here in australia on the radio so I didn’t realise they had any… but I’ll never forget being in the car and hearing one way ticket for the first time and just knowing from the first few chords who was playing. Just have to convince hubby to like them so I can see them in concert if they ever come to us and the pandemics ends…

You're going to LOVE the cover art for Easter is Cancelled, methinks. Ironically, it came out in late 2019 and ya know, then Easter 2020 was actually cancelled. EiC has some of my favourite Darkness songs: Rock and Roll Deserves to Die (definitely watch the official video on YT as it ends with Justin Hawkins in his birthday suit), How Can I Lose Your Love, Heart Explodes, In Another Life, Different Eyes, etc. Really good from beginning to end. Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have! I have a strong feeling I'm getting the vinyl of Motorheart, the album they just released in late 2021, for my birthday... *crosses fingers*

My SO loves The Darkness as well so it's pretty easy for me. And for birthday vinyls! But no standing desk to craft-wiggle-dance at... (instead, I usually scrap sitting at my coffee table hence my sleeping booty situation and name )

There's a big concert we go to every year (on zoom last year, so hard for them to make and so lame to watch, sadly). This year it was half empty instead of completely sold out, the singers were all masked unless they were doing a solo and standing arms length apart. And when the traditional audience sing-along part came up the host laughed at how he saw us all leafing through our programs for the lyrics and then talked about how he'd never said "respiratory droplets" so many times in his choral career... but because of the nasty droplets we had to do a "hum-along" instead! Yeah, even with us all masked and vaxx verified in a huge space Great story for the album this year.

Day 17 is all about binging the second season of The Witcher. Totally off topic but you told me to watch this. And I did. And I binged both seasons in a very unhealthy way and after the first two episodes where I didn't know what the hell was going on, I loved every non-gore minute of it. (Some of those monsters were killed in really gross ways). Now I started Cobra Kai because I needed some '80s.

elegantsufficiency I love how you opened and closed your album with your candles. I included weekly pics in my album this year(with 1, 2, 3, then 4 candles lit) but I’m saving your idea for next year. It’ll be a good excuse to get new candles. I’ve made some good progress in my album this week. I should be able to finish it within the next week or so. My biggest stumbling block right now is what story/pics I want to include from Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I have a lot of pics, but those days will have pages in our family album so I don’t need to include everything here.

I’m still puttering along in my DD! Finished 10 stories. I should easily finish at least a few more this weekend. School resumes on Tuesday, and I’m feeling that will be the end of our season. I’m not sure how much longer I will continue. I’d love to complete the album, but staying aware (and at peace!) that it may hang in limbo soon.
I have so enjoyed this project. I wish the spirit had moved me to act on it sooner. Getting started on 12/31 was maybe not ideal. Lol. Super loving it though, and already looking forward to doing it again. 🥰🥰🥰

Super loving it though, and already looking forward to doing it again. I'm glad you've enjoyed it this year. Timing is just one of those things. I like working on it through Dec and usually take a couple of nights before Christmas day which are a good way for me to get some quiet in an otherwise busy season. Others are far too busy or prefer to create after the season is over. Whichever camp you're in, I'm sure you'll find your rhythm.

BTW -what WAS I thinking to buy a paper pad with 60 papers 5 each of 15 designs? to do ONE 8x8 DD album? I'm working on the Sunday before Christmas and I haven't even made a dent.
The good news is that only 5 of the designs are Christmas specific and the other 10 will slide nicely into my year-round stash. But gosh that's a lot of paper.
