I’m taking the Canva class and agree it is very basic beginner level so far. I had never heard of Canva prior to this class, so I jumped right in and have made all kinds of things so far. It is easy to use, and I am amazed what you can do with a free account.
I’ve used PS/PSE for somewhere between 10-15 years (not daily or anything like that) and taught myself a lot in those programs; however, I still feel like a beginner with PS! I will definitely be using Canva to help me get more done. I think the biggest plus for me so far is that I can use Canva on my laptop and my phone, and it’s seamless in terms of accessing my designs and uploads.
My only complaints with Canva so far are the use of some features being virtually useless on the iOS app (trying to scroll graphics, for example) and the lack of some ways to filter designs that would be really helpful (though maybe those are Pro features-I’m not sure).
To sum it up I think I’ll use both going forward, but the more I learn about Canva, the less I see myself using PS/PSE in the future. I think I mentioned that earlier in the thread as well.
It has been well worth the $5 for me just to have learned about the program. I’m saving the lessons, but so far it’s not really taught me much other than the nifty frames.

In regards to the Canva class, I've watched the first two lessons and agree it is a beginner's class. So far anyway. It's been good for me because I've never really caught on to Photoshop. I actually didn't know what Canva was. It will certainly make it easy to add text to photos and so on. The classes are based around the free version. Sounds like something I should buy. Thanks!
Ugh. I just finished watching Boyfriends of Christmas Past. Ugh, triple ugh. I'm sorry! I've been needing some fluff in my life too! Not December Daily related, but I've been watching The Good Witch on Netflix. Definitely falls in that category. Nothing amazing, but my interest is held enough.

I saw that Heidi Swapp has a stamp set of Christmas definitions. I loved using definition word art when I first started digital scrapbooking so now I am thinking about printing some out on vellum to tuck here and there in my December album. If I get access to a laser printer I might play with foiling them too.

I just bought myself the Lego Elf Clubhouse for xmas. Definitely will be doing a page about this. It will be something that I put away as a decoration each year. I am 47.
I'm going to buy the lights for it to if anyone has any advice. There are lots of different kits.

And just like that, Hallmark earns it Redemption Award. The Christmas rom-com whiplash is real. I went from complete disappointment with Boyfriends of Christmas Past to utter delight thanks to Christmas in My Heart. 💖 How these two movies coexist in the same Christmas season is beyond comprehension. 😵💫 Disclaimer: I am trying not to spoil Christmas in My Heart too much because so much of what makes the movie a heartwarming experience deserves to be discovered as you watch it. But trust me when I say that Hallmark makes up for A LOT in this one. Representation isn't just throwing a minority character on screen and dusting off your hands, voilà, job done. And yes, this movie includes a young Black girl discussing her hair with her grandmother who came over to braid it and how society views certain hairstyles as "more professional" than others. It goes there. 👏 I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone. Just watch it. Totally worth it. It should've aired on the main Hallmark Channel and not Hallmark Movies & Mysteries but I understand they took a risk with this one and knew there could be some "SJW!"-screaming banshee backlash. Still, it's the season opener for Movies & Mysteries and very much deserves this honour. Great job, MarVista and Hallmark! Also, as a childfree person who isn't into rom-coms involving kids much, this was not an issue at all. They handled the solo parent storyline beautifully - both the ups and the downs - and the daughter was a true addition to the film (and a great child actor). 5 ⭐ from me. Don't have Hallmark but willing to watch it ASAP (before it gets flagged on YT and taken down) in not-so-great quality? Here you go. PS: Hanukkah also makes an appearance.

Ali E order - for anyone keeping track, I received my order (disclaimer: i didn't order any new DD supplies), but am happy with last year's $8 journal. It has enough space that I think I will use it to record memories for a couple years, since I don't really do dedicated DD. I also received some 3x8 page protectors which is why I placed the order and the quality of these is ick. I wish sb.com or wrmk would make some more varying sizes.
Photoshop/Canva - I wasn't familiar with Canva until my last scrap smarter experience, now it seems like scrappers everywhere jumping on canva. I am ok doing what I need to do with photoshop elements, but it's always nice to have a fun, free tool. For those looking to learn more in PS/PSE, I always liked Jessica Sprague's offerings..took a bunch of her digi classes years ago, not sure if content is the same. But I recall she used to always post or send out tips/tricks weekly. Generally if I need to do something I don't know how to do, youtube is my friend.
Lego - did anyone see the Home Alone house is coming out? Nov. 1 for $250! It opens up and has all the little tricks. Very tempting....

Elle's Studio released their extra title building stuff today. shop link I don't buy stamps very often but $24 for something I will only use during one season is insane to me.

I've caught up the first 2 lessons in the Canva Class and I am enjoying it quite a bit. Definitely a beginner class. I lasted about 10 minutes before upgrading to pro from the free version because I was annoyed with the things I couldn’t do (but that may not bother someone else, the free version is impressive). I’m a pretty heavy photoshop user but all self-taught so I know what I know how to do but not even close to everything. I didn't last with PS Elements either and upgraded to CC pretty quickly.
Some stuff is super easy in Canva like adding text, dragging in digital supplies, and adding shadows. I love that the color pallet automatically pulls up all the colors from my photo or digital supplies (whatever you are working with). I can see why people like the software. It's very user friendly for a variety of things.
The instructor, Kim Hurst (Paper Crush) comes across very sweet and she knows her stuff, but the videos don’t feel super polished to me (but pretty typical of most scrapbooking classes I've taken). Not a big deal but something to note if that might bug you. I wasn't familiar with Kim before the class and I've enjoyed seeing her projects. Her enthusiasm for Canva is adorable. You can tell she loves it, which is great. If she does a second class, I'd likely take it. It's a fun software to play around in. The lack of text flow options in Canva, even in the pro version is driving me bananas. Apparently they are working on adding it. This might be a deal breaker for me on if I continue to use the software long term or not.
All in all, worth the money and I'm enjoying learning something new. I also like that I can do this all while I'm traveling, so I still feel like I'm doing something creative when I have some free time and I don't have any of my normal supplies.

I got my husband the Hogsmeade village set for Christmas, I got it on Zuilly with a discount. Every year he gets the new Christmas set but I give it to him on Dec 1. This year he will get the Hogsmeade as a surprise on Christmas day. My favorite set is the Gingerbread house from a few years ago.

That Cocoa Daisy kit is very pretty - but unless you sub, you can't get it, right? Not that I'm planning on buying, just curious. They do a pre-order for the Christmas kit, but they have extras available to purchase as well. Their extras do tend to get snapped up quickly by subscribers, but I've managed to snag a few of the "add-ons" or extras that she puts in the shop and often that is enough. I love CD papers, and I always try to get the extra pack for the Christmas / December kits, which usually coordinate well. This year I'm crushing on the sparkly stars and hope she has those available with some pretty paper as extras as I didn't pre-order this year.

I got my husband the Hogsmeade village set for Christmas, I got it on Zuilly with a discount. Thanks for the tip. I'll see if they still have them. And... ALERT ALERT ALERT. Nightmare Before Christmas wrapping paper at Dollar Tree. It's red with white round Jack heads and some text. If you want the good stuff there, you have to go before Halloween. I also got a roll of Grinch, Elf, and two cool ribbon stripes.

Those Cocoa Daisy sneaks are looking nice... It's different from all the other offers without being completely out of the box (ha, because of the bunny). And very cute! Ok, this is the part where I come clean and admit I'm going to attempt watching all 41 new Hallmark Christmas movies coming this year. I don't know why I'm admitting this since I'll fall off that wagon pretty quickly but here I go, filled with hope. And dread. The Santa Stakeout is freakin fun and the chemistry between the leads builds up nicely as the movie unfolds (I was a bit worried at the start). Paul Campbell never disappoints when it comes to playing more comedic roles. The slow-mo when they walk in wearing the costumes (me trying not to spoil too much) is *muah*. Chef's kiss. I approve of this silly enemies-to-lovers police procedural.

Good to know you enjoyed it! I'll try to get to it later this week. I hope her playing a scientist in this one will make her less OTT cutesy (but not holding my breath). It was just announced she signed a 4-picture deal with GAC. A Hallmark movie blog I follow had only this to say: "Good riddance." Savage!

His name is Simon and he is a CD “mascot”. He appears on the collectible cards and clips. And is always included in the bonus kits. CD fans collect any items with him. He was created by now retired designer who comes and does kits once in a while and still provides cute “carton” cards featuring Simon, his friend or girlfriend bunny Betty and his buddy owl Gary for each month release. People who do not care about him, can easily sell him to a good home.

Do we need a separate DD Hallmark movie thread? Totally not complaining, just an easy spot to look back on reviews and recommendations?
