Here's a pic of the shawl pins (and one cuff) I've received through the shawl club.

I've bought the autumnal blanket pattern (Oakley) . If I'd not done some mosaic crochet before I would be feeling very disappointed as it is just so vague. The designer links to two other designers (both of whom I have worked from and both of whom provide comprehensive instructions and/or videos for their patterns) and suggests you follow their instructions. There are no sizes given, no yarn quantities other than between 4/5000 yards, no colour suggestions because she threw the ball bands away (not a huge problem as I tend to use my own colour choice anyway) and no details whatsoever about the border. Am I being a moaning minnie? I certainly will make the blanket and will probably enjoy working out what to do because I like problem solving and I enjoy mathematical problems but I do feel short changed. Maybe I've been spoilt by top notch designers? Maybe I'm just very tired after a long month at work. Anyway, the fun part is about to start. I've already set colours aside on wishlists in Wool Warehouse so I can see what they look like together. The colours make my heart sing! I'm not sure whether to go for Stylecraft Special DK or Scheepjes Chunky Monkey worstead. Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm not wanting a blanket any bigger than the one in the picture jeremysgirl put up. That one is Stylecraft DK.

gillyp I don't think you are a moaning minne, I've followed patterns by quite a few designers and they have all provided good instructions, details etc. I mean Tinna's Queen pattern could not have included more, multiple sizes, colours, different yarns, where to buy kits internationally, video links, charts etc etc and if I remember correctly the pattern cost less than the Oakley pattern. I would expect more than you have outlined.

I don't think you're being a a whiner gillyp. I think comprehensive instructions should be a given. I think a video is not necessary though. That's one part where I differ from a lot of people. I don't ever use videos and I think that they shouldn't be relied on. I take that back I did use tinnas video for how she does her double border. So I shall say I rarely use a video. But I do expect a stellar written pattern. Tinna, Helen Shrimpton, Rosina, Hooked on Sunshine, and Sixel Designs have IMO always released professional patterns and it's hard to see something incomplete after getting used to some fab designers.

Finally wandering in here. Kids got quarantined on Tuesday pending covid tests- both came back negative this morning. They'll be back at school next week (4 day weekend for them this weekend). DH is ready to have the house back with us all gone. I want to craft/need to craft outside of school but for now, art class it is. I will come here and ohhh and ahhh over everyones projects. I'm thinking next summer I'll start on my DS's temp quilt. He won't be 10 for another 5 years but I might make his early. Oh, and I still have my maternity scrapbook from when I was pregnant with him to make.

Is it particularly versatile? Just so cool and unusual? It doesn't poke into your shawl? Circle are your jam? My eye jump to the 4 that are wood. The circles and the 3 skewers.

gillyp I would be miffed. Clearly the other designers have already set a standard as to what to expect, and this pattern in no way, shape or form meets that expectation. I'm glad you'll be able to work it out, it will be fun to see it develop.

I'm afraid yarn from a yarn club I didn't specifically choose would just pile up with me right now. Glad you're getting to enjoy the fun of getting something new every month, jeremysgirl . One shawl at the end of a year sounds reasonable and not like a lot of other kit clubs. 2021 shawl looks nice! The blanket photo you showed and the blankets wellway linked to all look like they'd be so fun to do! Maybe after I get a few more WIPs done. I've been very, very, very good in only crocheting stuff already in progress and have managed to finish up a few things already. An embarrassing number of projects had gotten to a "Do I continue or do I frog it?" point, so I've been making decisions and getting on with them. I think just making a decision has been the hardest thing so far! (Interesting. I hadn't even realized it.) sueg - Hope once your space looks right, you'll be able to get back in the groove. MorellisCupcake - I hear ya! Crocheting in the heat is work. Scrapper100 - You can actually make that autumn blanket. A good way to prepare is to watch some of her videos Rosina Crochets YouTube Channel. (On second thought, after reading gillyp 's comment, definitely check out Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar's YouTube Channel first) Practice making a swatch with some scrap yarn to get the feel of what's being described. You're not committing to making anything here. You're not buying yarn or a pattern. You're just casually watching how it's done. Let the confidence build naturally. Maybe you'll be ready when you've made some room in your schedule and you can begin planning then. Until then, just enjoy this part of the process. gillyp - Nice necklight! Tinna is releasing a CAL tomorrow Wait. What? That means it's out now! I'm definitely gonna have to check it out. I sure enjoyed watching her with Havana! wellway - I think we're kinda obligated now to go check it out, don't you? -- OK, I checked and I'm good without for now. Maybe? Maybe not? AnotherPea - Nice! I think Heaven looks a little like your photo, working with your Mom on a fun project with a beloved pet right there to supervise. wellway - There you go, tempting me further while I'm tied to the WIP rail. It's not like I have yarn sitting here waiting for a project or anything... Too bad I don't share jeremysgirl 's squares-are-barred affliction because that would make telling a scrap crochet quilt blanket to just sit and wait a bit easier. Just T - Makes total sense to me. Most definitely not! (and do you have a link for me to ooogle over?) IDK. I respect that she defers to those who've gone before and did such a great job, but what are you actually paying for if she's done lost the ball bands and can't even tell you what or how much yarn she used? Considering the efforts so many others make to cover all the details when they don't even charge... and no details about the border? I like to work things out for myself to, but not when I pay for the pattern. If you don't want a blanket bigger than whatever they show using DK, then stick with DK. Wouldn't anything named Chunky Monkey be on the thicker side, even if it's listed as worsted? Decide: Do you want a smaller size, or do you want to work with thicker yarn? wellway - Tinna is amazingly good at this! jeremysgirl - So are all of those designers. seaexplore - Yay! to negative tests!

Well, leftturnonly, full disclosure, I bought Tinna's Amma pattern. Like you, I'm okay with squares, but I particularly like how the tile design lends itself to your own creation/colour scheme. I watched her YouTube video where she showed the blankets made by herself and her testers. There are so many possibilities. She mentioned that you can stop at various rows with the tiles and then join creating new looks. Plus I've not done mosaic crochet in the round before so new knowledge too. Yay. I also love the cushion options, when my friend can get her divorce settled and moves into a new place I plan to make her some to match whatever scheme she has. Just something new for her with no memories. I've made some charity blankets for the last couple of years and have yarn set aside for this winter and think the Amma pattern will work great. Fyi, Tinna has her own website now and is offering all her older patterns at 30% off if you want to add to your library of patterns. I also bought Letita's garden pattern but in my head I'm moving the sections around to give me a more balanced look. e.g. Putting the trellis looking pattern first and last, the fountain in the centre and the rest flowers. I plan to use my stash for this one. I need to make inroads into it.

I think it’s very naughty that she is taking money based on other designers’ expertise. It might not strictly be breach of copyright but it’s morally wrong, imho. It’s such a shame because the finished blanket is beautiful and she could have made a lot of money if she’d gone about it the right way. As it is, I’ve spotted others on FB grumbling about it too. Anyhow, I shall see this as a learning opportunity, dive in and enjoy it. I might even see if I can work out a chart of my own design to add to it

Oh that is SO sweet muggins! I'm loving the textures. The Hedgehog and tree are very cute. Are they made from pom-poms? When you say it was for the Luna Lapin characters, do you mean for one of them to carry or as a storage bag for them? (Are you allowed to put the characters in a bag??)

muggins your bag is adorable. I'm seriously in awe of your sewing skills.
I've been doing a lot of junk journalling but zero knitting, I don't even have the urge to pick it up atm

I love your spin on the house bag muggins. The extra details are great. It is bigger than I thought and was nearly tempted to get my sewing machine out instead of the usual hand sewing. You will be amazed how much it holds. I keep all the clothes I make in it.
Perhaps your Mum might like it to keep the things you have made for her in.

gillyp lainey, wellway phoenixcov thanks!! I think it’s to keep or gift a Luna Lapin character. I was intending to make a gingerbread house one for the Christmas characters I’ve made for my mum for Christmas, but I’ll have to scale it down I think.

muggins that bag is adorable! SO much work! I MIGHT sew today! My 10 year old DD has a birthday party in 2 weeks for a friend. I hate purchasing gifts because I have no clue if they'll like them or not and well.. cash is easier. So.... I'm going to make her a little boxy pouch that she can clip to her backpack- it can hold a few lip glosses and trinkets. I'll put $20 in it and a new lip gloss and call it good. I'm making her a card too.

I plan to use my stash for this one. I need to make inroads into it. No clue why I've got so many tabs open that my computer wouldn't play Tinna's videos last night when I tried.... Never mind that most tabs have to do with crochet, or that so many of those were mentioned earlier in the thread. Not sure how that happened. I'll get that sorted in a bit. I've got to, haven't I? Because watching Tinna sounds like just the ticket today! Mosaic in the round? Yes, please. I may just have enough yarn already. No telling if AMMA will be next up, but it's definitely jumped ahead of the scrap quilt crochet blanket. The only "trouble" is that most of my colorful yarn that would be perfect for something like this is aran/worsted/4 weight, and I'm already working on 3 mosaics that heavy. Nearly all of the DK/3 weight I have is in cake form mixed with other colors - which is fine when you specifically decide to tear them apart for separate colors, and I have done that in the past, but that's a real commitment to your project when you do it. It might be worth it for this! What a great gift wellway - whatever form you make it - to give to someone starting a new chapter in their life! Moving sections around on someone else's pattern? Why I never... almost never... do anything but. (I'm even worse at following a recipe for cooking.) Have fun playing in your new crochet Garden! gillyp - I expect other people will grumble for some while. This time, they actually have a decent reason. Absolutely try working out a chart of your own if you're so inclined. It's the most natural thing in the world to want to make your own changes. All that said, if I wanted her charts, I'd get them too despite the problems. I've enough experience that I'd only skim over those things missing anyway. Looks like a fun project and worth the time. muggins - I'm so glad you showed all sides of your bag. The details are amazing! I'm not sure of the size, but if it's big enough for a Kleenex box, maybe you could use it for that? I'm stepping blindly into the middle of an ongoing character thing here, so this is all completely new to me. Obviously, if you're going to use it like a doll house, you won't want to use it for tissues. lainey - I practically never have the urge to pick up knitting needles. The seasons are changing here and that tends to interrupt projects for me. Maybe you're just feeling a little bit of that, too.

What I did here was to highlight the words I wanted to quote and clicked on the quote button that popped up. The quote was then dropped into the quick reply box at the bottom of the page. Instead of clicking on the Post Quick Reply button at the bottom of the box, I clicked on the bigger Reply button at the top of the box and a different page, with more space, loaded. On this page, at the top are a series of small buttons. Click on the one that looks like a Fisher Price toy doll with @ instead of a speech bubble. That will open a place for you to type in a peas' name... the name they are registered under, not necessarily the name that shows on their posts. By quoting like I did, your name shows. If your registered name was different, I could click on the BBCode button and see what name the computer knows you as. If I add the name the computer knows you as in the Fisher Price tag button line, when I post it will tag you with your screen name. It's not as complicated as that sounds. Most people haven't changed their names and can be found really quickly as soon as their names begin being typed.
