I am thinking about getting a blow dryer/ brush combo. I have color-treated, shoulder-length fine hair with a tiny bit of wave and do minimal styling now. Mostly I air dry and do a quick drying of my bangs in the morning. I am not good at holding a hair dryer and a brush, so my bangs rarely look very good.
It's time to replace that hairdryer. I discovered these combo brushes and hair dryers and am thinking about getting one of these instead. I have read lots of reviews and watched several YouTube video reviews.
I am wondering if anyone has used them, whether they work, if there are any to avoid, and any that are great. My priority is not damaging my hair.
I am seriously considering the Dry Bar single shot. It’s a bit pricey but also is supposedly less damaging.
Pea thoughts?

I bought one... Revlon I think. Not super pricey. It works, but...
The biggest drawback for me is that there just isn't enough heat/power, so if that were my only hair dryer, it would take for.ev.er. And that's after my hair has been up in a towel for like 2 hours.
So if I am going to use it, I usually partially dry my hair with the hair dryer and then finish with the brush.
I will say that it's the only round brush I've ever been able to use without getting it stuck in my hair, so sometimes I will use it as just a brush while I use my regular dryer as the heat source.
If you can afford to, I would probably start with an inexpensive one to see if you even kind of like it before investing in drybar's.

It's light weight enough for my arthritic hands and does the job. Not sure of the brand I have.

I have the Revlon one and like it a lot, too. I am a mess with a round brush and hairdryer so this works great for me. It will probably be fine for what you are wanting. It’s definitely not a blow dryer, it’s a styler. Your hair should be at least 80% dry before using it if not more.

Yeah I love my Revlon one, but wouldn’t use it as my only dryer. I dry my hair about 80% of the way with my normal blow dryer and then use the Revlon to finish and style my hair. It would take forever to dry from completely wet and it would be really hard to get the roots dry with a brush dryer.

Love my Revlon. I have fine, curly hair so I don't need a regular blow dryer; it works just fine for straightening mine.

Agree with others, you have to let your hair air or use a regular blow dryer to get the wet out. Then as your hair is damp you can you use the blow dryer brush to finish off. I have the Revlon, I find it hot compared to my blow dryer.

If you can wait until October 9th, the Revlon one will be 50% off at Ulta - $29.99 (regularly $59.99). Then you can see if you like it. My friend sent me that deal because she and another friend have been raving about it and I was going to pick one up this weekend. So now I have to wait a week.

I love my Revlon! I was very hesitant and I waited a very long time, but I'm so glad I made the purchase. I have shoulder length hair and I can use it for my wet hair. It does add a small amount of time to my routine, but not much. I've had to use my regular dryer the last couple of days so I could get out of the house more quickly.
It really does look like it was done at a salon. The regular dryer gives me more fly ways and it doesn't look as smooth or straight.
It gets hot! I haven't seen any damage yet, but reviews say it can. I have an oil spray that I can use sometimes that helps prevent that.

I have the Revlon and I use it sparingly because my regular blow dryer is so much faster. A few months ago, in an attempt to put more effort into learning how to use it, I tried to use it exclusively. After a week or so my roots were so incredibly oily and weighed down that I stopped.

I have the Revlon one as well. I do let my hair "air dry" for a bit - but after that, the dryer works well enough. I do find I have to do more "sectioning" - but I can to that with my fingers while keeping the drying going. I think that the "brush" grabs more hair "behind" it -- while I'm working one section, it seems to grab hair up -- for me, that creates snarls. It has worked well - as of now, however, I'm back to a big round brush and regular dryer -- my hair has gotten a bit longer and I'm having "issues" with getting it rounded at the ends - and my round brush does a better job of that. I think mind was around $30.00 at Target -

I use the Revlon dryer but I dry my hair about 80-90% with my regular dryer then finish with the dryer brush. It makes a big difference in how my hair looks. There are some YouTube videos about various dryers as well as some comparisons. That might be helpful in deciding which one to get. A woman at a scrapbooking retreat last week said she had just gotten the Bed Head one and likes it. I think it is on sale at Ulta now or soon as part of their great hair event.

Have you tried the Olivia Garden brushes? They are the best and my hair dries quickly and with little effort in styling with them. While the dryer brush sounds intriguing I don’t think I could give up my brushes.

I use the Revlon brush too. I bought it when Target was having a sale last year. Like everyone else I use a regular dryer on my hair and finish it with the brush. I have been growing my hair and it has a lot to do with me deciding not to cut my hair short again. My sisters both bought one after trying mine. I gave one to my daughter for Christmas and she's also a fan. If you can can get one at Ulta next weekend for $30 that's a great deal.

I agree that it is more of a styler than a dryer. I also used it when my hair was drier. But it got too hot for my fine, thin hair and I started noticing damage so I gave it up

Ok I know this isn’t what you asked, but I highly, HIGHLY recommend the dyson air wrap. I have long, thick, wavy colour treated hair that tends to be dry. The dyson with a brush attachment dries my hair FAST, and it is straight, sleek, soft and shiny. I use kerastase hair oil and my hair looks great. My hair is prone to damage when I use a regular blow dryer and brush. But the dyson seems gentler, somehow.
I get that spending that much on a hair styling tool is insane. But it’s GOOD.

I have the Revlon and it works great for me. I have shoulder length, colour treated hair. It is fairly thick and I am useless with a round brush and regular blow dryer.

I have the Revlon: www.amazon.com/Revlon-One-Step-Dryer-Volumizer-Brush/dp/B01LSUQSB0I have fine shoulder length hair. If I really want it straight and with a round brush look, this gets it done, but it takes time. It doesn't push a ton of air, and so you really have to section your hair (I start with the bottom/under) and work your way through. If I"m in a hurry, I do a quick regular blow dry then use it. I find it a little easier than trying to just round brush myself.

I have one of these (wet detangler): store.oliviagarden.com/products/divine?variant=992272744454It's nice, but I have to replace it often because the little nubs come off.

I have the Revlon one, bought it on a whim at Sam's this summer. I like it because I don't have to use a straightener any more--my ends would get so fried. I do have to let my hair dry some or it takes forever, but I also don't like using the high setting because it's too noisy & high-pitched. My only other issue is that the barrel is a tad too big some days & my hand starts to hurt before I'm done.

I have the Babyliss big hair styler which smooths and tames my very curly hair. As others have said, you need to dry your hair with a normal dryer until about 80% dry then use the styler. Mine came with a couple of different heads and I didn’t think I’d use the large one as it seemed huge and much bigger than any round brush I’d used previously but I got used to it very quickly and the bigger the brush the easier and quicker it is to smooth out the hair even if it isn’t that long.

I have the 75mm Le Volume by L'ange. I got it from Amazon. I love it. It gets very hot and I don't have to use my blow dryer to pre-dry my hair.

I have the Hot Tools. Got it on sale at Ulta. I have shoulder length fine wavy/curly hair. I use it to dry and straighten my hair. It takes me 7 minutes. I still have some wave but that’s ok.

I really put forth the effort to use mine this weekend. It straighten my hair pretty good. I did not use my flat iron afterwards. But by the end of the night, I was a frizzy curly mess. I used to get Keratin treatments, but they are so expensive. I am so tired of fighting my hair

Mostly I air dry and do a quick drying of my bangs in the morning. I am not good at holding a hair dryer and a brush, so my bangs rarely look very good. Several years ago I fell and shattered my elbow. It was a very lengthy recuperation period where I could not use that arm at all. I had waist-length hair that really needed to be blown dry because it tool much too long to air dry. I purchased a hair dryer stand similar to this: www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Dryer-Holder-Degree-Rotation/dp/B08T8R6C4Q/ref=asc_df_B08T8R6C4Q/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=508210129874&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6494982174097625369&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031540&hvtargid=pla-1276390012485&psc=1I also added a bit of velcro to strap it on even more securely. I loved the hair dryer I already had and just needed help in having it point at my hair. I love it. I love it so much that after my elbow was usable again, I continued to use the stand and still use it today. My sister had surgery on both of her shoulders, one of them twice, and was unable to hold her dryer too. Her solution was to make an appointment to get her long hair cut off. I told her my solution and she wasn't interested. I ordered one to be sent to her house anyway because I knew she would love it if she tried it. She does. It has been several years since her final surgery and she still uses her stand too. I find having both hands free to brush and position my hair to be so much easier. I have a large round brush that I use to give my hair more body and it wasn't as easy to use with only one hand. Now with the stand, I can use both hands to roll up my almost dry hair in the brush roller with ease. I can't imagine ever returning to holding my hair dryer in one hand ever again.

Thank you, everyone! Lots to think about. I have read and watched so many reviews and tutorials, even for that Dyson, which like looks pretty complicated. And I had no idea there were hairdryer stands! Really intriguing.

I have the Revlon one everyone is talking about, and it's good. However, last year I used my ULTA points towards a DryBar one, and it is WAAAY superior. I have fine, thin, shoulder length hair. I wash it, let it air dry for 15 mins or so, and finish with the brush. Easy, and my hair looks great. If I need my hair done asap I will used a blowdryer for a few minutes instead of air dry.
