Also think of how many other vaccines require boosters.

we had a deadline of today for people working in gyms and restaurants and other public places had to be vaccinated. for a while, patrons have had to be vaccinated. the reporter walked down a busy street and interviewed restaurant owners and business owners about the new deadline. most did not even know about the deadline and it was a non-issue, as all the staff have been vaccinated long ago...
life in san francisco. the city is dealing with workers who have not reported their status or won't get the shot.. and they will probably be laid off.

People want you to get the shot in order to get the antibodies. If you have had covid you already have the antibodies. If you want to get the shot in addition to having had it, that's a choice you get to make. If you don't want the shot because you already have the antibodies it will give you, that's also a choice you get to make. Neither choice makes you a bad person. Having had covid doesn't prevent you from getting it and passing it to someone else. Having the vaccine ALSO doesn't prevent you from getting it and passing it to someone else. Mandating that you have the vaccine if you've already got the antibodies isn't preventing anything. You keep ignoring the facts that have been stated multiple times in this thread that antibodies from the virus ARE NOT THE SAME as antibodies from the vaccine. Antibodies from the virus might not work against other variants and most likely decline faster than antibodies from the vaccine. In addition, there’s increasing evidence that the transmission rates of people with breakthrough infections are lower than the unvaccinated. www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/10/12/1044553048/covid-data-vaccines-breakthrough-infections-transmissionMandating vaccines reduces transmission of the virus. Full stop. You keep ignoring the facts that have been stated multiple times in this thread that antibodies from the virus ARE NOT THE SAME as antibodies from the vaccine. You might as well move to Ohio where the wonderful US representative is opting for NO mandated vaccines... Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has been vaccinated against COVID-19, but he wants his home state to ban mandates for all vaccines -- even long-used shots against measles and the mumps -- as the partisan war against pandemic safety measures expands. The Republican Party is racing toward the bottom, wrote The Daily Beast columnist Margaret Carlson, with GOP governors taking away local authority to require masks and vaccines, and now the bombastic Ohio Republican is staking out a new front by chipping away at mandates for other safe and effective vaccines. *** "We no longer live in a country where there's agreement on what constitutes the common good," she wrote. "It's two decades since half the country told Gallup we were on the right track, and longer still since 600 children died in the early days of the polio vaccine but parents still followed the science and lined up their offspring for the immunization until iron lungs all but disappeared."www.rawstory.com/jim-jordan-vaccine/

I just found out DSIL hadn't gotten the vaccine until his work finally mandated it and he was forced to to keep his job. He works in the entertainment industry and they are super careful on set, he's been constantly tested etc since they all went back to work last year. He was so complacent about it.
They avoided telling me he wasn't vaxxed I guess because they know how strongly I feel about it. His only reason for not getting his vaccine was out of being 'afraid of needles' and honestly I think it was just procrastination/laziness. I think a LOT of people are in this category. I've seen lots of stories of people who got diagnosed and live to regret it because of procrastination. They had 'intended' to get the shot but didn't get around to it.
I'm glad he's fully vaxed now, and for this reason I think mandated vaccines are honestly the best way to go.
The unvaxed are going to cause this thing to keep on mutating and we will wind up with a super bug and I shudder to think about it. Its making it very hard for me to stay friends with people who 'don't believe in it'.

I know I should quit, but here's a little more info on acquired vs immunity from vaccines. First of all, the study in Israel that people frequently point to regarding acquired immunity has been misquoted. Secondly, there were problems with that study. The study has not yet been peer reviewed. Also, testing was voluntary, it was not required as part of the study so there may have been undocumented cases. The study did not control for other measures like mask wearing or social distancing. The study did not look specifically at the delta strain and included cases of the original strain. Right now, in the US, delta is the predominant strain. Furthermore, there are other studies including a CDC one from Kansas that contradict the Israeli study. Until there is more concrete information, the current recommendation and the general consensus of doctors and epidemieologists is for people who were previously infected with Covid to get the vaccine. If that recommendation changes, then people can contest mandated vaccines. www.wsj.com/articles/covid-vaccine-natural-immunity-infection-israel-study-cdc-11632151556www.factcheck.org/2021/09/scicheck-instagram-post-missing-context-about-israeli-study-on-covid-19-natural-immunity/The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also recommends that people still get vaccinated regardless of whether they already had COVID-19, because it’s not known how long someone is protected from getting COVID-19 again after recovering from the disease. A small proportion of people who had an infection may not develop much immunity at all. The authors also said that because they conducted an “observational real-world study,” where polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, screening for the coronavirus was not required, “we might be underestimating asymptomatic infections, as these individuals often do not get tested.”

Perhaps if Republican politicians had done more to advocate for the vaccine, we wouldn’t be in this situation. It’s a public health crisis and now we’re looking at mandates. As we’ve already stated, you are protected from the vaccine. You are protected from hospitalization, severe illness and death. And vaccines slow the transmission. Vaccines are safe and effective. Anyone that suggests otherwise is spreading misinformation.

Do you think that private businesses have a right to tell their employees to get vaccinated or be terminated? I will add that Covid is a transmitted respiratory disease. There has never been a vaccine to prevent one. It is a coronavirus, like a cold, but far far worse. The present vaccines for Covid prevent most serious diseases, which is beneficial to everyone. Why are you and so many others so willing to pass the infection on to others, rather then protect them? The only answer I can find is that selfish people don't care about their neighbors!

From the Urban Dictionary: Your question was answered here, and has been answered before, and has also been addressed many times by public health experts. The vaccine is valuable, both to individuals and the community as a whole, on many levels. It not only prevents illness much of the time, it reduces the seriousness of the illness if you do get it, and makes it harder to spread to others. It lessens the possibility of hospitalization and death. It lessens the possibility of new strains spreading through the community. It lessens the burden on health workers, local governments, employers, schools, and more. It helps protect immune-compromised individuals and underage children from exposure. The fewer children who are exposed, the fewer old people they can spread it to. That is only a partial list. None of it is a secret; all of it has been widely discussed in the media. The doctors, “experts,” and studies you say disagree with the consensus tend to be outliers, unqualified, or misunderstood. The vast majority of health care professionals agree on this. What does it tell you that 96% of physicians are fully vaccinated? I don’t understand how anyone who is the least bit interested can be unaware. So when you keep making the same unsubstantiated claims and asking the same uninformed questions, don’t be surprised that people get impatient with you.

First you claimed that acquired immunity is the same as immunity from the vaccines. After thoughtful, respectful responses with evidence to contradict that, you moved the goal posts. Now the vaccine is not safe or effective? The overwhelming evidence shows that the vaccine is both safe and effective. People who already had covid are encouraged to get the vaccine. Hybrid immunity is more effective than acquired immunity. It lasts longer and protects against variants.

MichyM are the checks for vaccinated or not? The check-marks are for current and anticipated disruptions in the Puget Sound. We’ve had rolling sick outs for ferry workers for weeks. Schedules finally had to be adjusted, so much so that many routes are running 50% as often as they used to, causing massive backups and disruptions. Particularly for those who live on the islands (and Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas) and either commute in to the mainland and for those who have to come to the mainland for medical care. We’re also expecting to lose many SPD and SFD employees when our vaccine mandate goes into effect on Monday. Boeing employees are making noise as well since the company adopts a vaccine or test mandate in a little over a month. More to come I’m sure regarding WA state and more specifically, the Puget Sound region. I personally am ok dealing with some disruptions in order to help ensure the health of our residents. That said, I don’t have young children who rely on school buses to get them to and from school. That’s going to be a major pain until the district finds new drivers and sorts it all out. I don’t foresee a quick fix to any of this.

"Unfortunately we have politicians who will participate in this kind of nonsense because it serves them politically, not necessarily because they believe it," Carter said, referencing the lawmakers' own vaccination status. "They're telling us to gamble our lives, but they're not willing to take that same gamble with theirs. And I think that is what is the most galling about this."

You can’t possibly think that firing people including first responders who fought the front lines for months on end is a good thing. I don't think firing first responders or health care workers is a good thing. But, I also don't think unvaccinated first responders and health care workers is a good thing. Certain jobs like first responders, health care workers and educators come with a degree of responsibility to protect vulnerable people, patients and children. Many hospitals, primary care offices etc require the flu vaccine for workers. Schools require vaccinations for illnesses with community spread. The covid vaccine is no different. First responders and health care workers are stressed and getting burned out dealing with covid for months on end. At the moment, over 90% of hospitalizations and deaths are the unvaccinated and completely preventable. Health care workers are frustrated that we have a solution but people are choosing their personal freedom over the good of the community. The way out of this pandemic is through vaccinations. States tried incentives like lotteries and even cash to get people vaccinated. They removed barriers, added time off for the vaccine etc. They tried community outreach through pastors and churches. But, we were stuck at only 67% vaccinated. Delta Airlines tried charging a $200 per month health insurance premium to unvaccinated employees but only achieved an 85% vaccination rate. We tried other methods that didn't get enough people vaccinated and we're left with no other choice but mandates. Furthermore, the mandates are working. Many places that implemented them have over a 90% vaccination rate. Many employers have an opt out with testing. The companies that don't have an opt out discovered that only a small percentage of workers quit. Out of 67,000 employees at United, only a few hundred left.
