It seems the parents are on the lam.. Cannot imagine any parenting more amazing than abandoning your minor child in jail on murder charges while you go on the lam. |

"You have to learn not to get caught." If this is true, that is disgusting. I hope those parents suffer the rest of their life, every single f*ing day, knowing what their child did since they laughed off warning signs. And I am normally in the camp of "parents aren't always to blame for what their kid does," but in this case, I am making an exception. The articles I’ve read indicate the “learn not to get caught” was in response to the school contacting her about him searching for ammunition online not the drawings. Not much better but not in response to the drawings or to the shooting itself. But they have apparently fled to avoid being arrested. So much for caring for their kid. They now have warrants out for their arrest. |

I know that we will probably never know what they were thinking, but when the mom sent the "lol, you shouldn't get caught" it sounded like she was referring to something benign like looking for a shirt online or something. But, I guess they had just bought him the gun (why??) so maybe to them it didn't seem odd that he was looking for ammunition to use with it? However, if they weren't aware of his thoughts or intentions before Monday, they should have been concerned when they saw the drawings.

According to their lawyers they left town the night of the incident for their own safety. Lawyers stated if they were charged they would return. They are returning.? They were supposed to turn themselves in by 2pm. Arraignment was scheduled for 4pm..

We have monthly drills, they alternate between outside threat and inside threat. Horrible to have to gently explain to the 3 and 4 year olds what we are practicing. Uggghhhhhhh. I'm glad they're doing the drill while I have 4th graders and not the littles. I can't imagine how you keep them quiet. The only good thing I can say about upper elementary and these drills is that they've been doing them their whole school lives now. They're sadly nonchalant about it all. When I taught 4 graders in MI we had to do shooter drills. 20 kids crammed into a bathroom inside the classroom. However, in reality, if there was a shooter in the school I would have simply opened the back door and told them to hide in the woods. That is why I never allowed my students to take off their shoes in the classroom. |

I will say that when I first saw the list of charges, my first thought was that the killer was Black. For no reason other than the severity of the charges and that if it was a White killer, they would first take him to Burger King. Absolutely if he even made it to the jail alive it would be somewhat surprising. Quite honestly I wonder some days how POC even manage to not just go crazy at the injustice of this country. |
