Do you still think being gay is a mental illness? rainbow, I am not sure what you thought you would get from posting here, but wow. You are something else. muggins, she is not going to answer that. I will be shocked if she does. It's been asked more than once. I responded with kindness because I thought I was responding to a terrified grandmother. It seemed better to respond wuth humanity, I guess in an appeal *to* rainbow 's humanity. I guess I thought that seeing her beloved grandson in crisis might have helped her realize his humanity, as well. But, as the thread progressed, I got the gross feeling that this was another game. rainbow was testing our responses and/or doing so for the benefit of her conservative buddies. rainbow, I hope your grandson can find the love of people who accept ALL of him. I doubt he will find that with you. Send him my way. I'm not a grandma yet, but there's always room in our family for love.

This is why I'm convinced this is a troll, just like all her trollish campaigns: the dead dog in the kirby, the veganism, the anti-gay stuff, the Christian "persecution" stuff. However, if this situation is real, then my heart just breaks for her grandson. I hope he finds someone in his life who really cares about him, and will give him the love and support he desperately needs now.

Well, since you asked: For the full list of Trump’s attacks on LGBTQ people, visit HRC.org/Trump. Opposition to the Equality Act: Despite support from almost every segment of the U.S. population and a majority of Republicans, President Trump opposed the Equality Act. In May, the House passed the Equality Act, voting to guarantee critical non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people among other crucial rights. Appointed anti-LGBTQ judges: Trump has appointed anti-LGBTQ judges with alarming anti-LGBTQ records to appointments at every level of the judicial system, including anti-equality Supreme Court Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh and federal nominees Kacsmaryk, Mateer, Bounds, Vitter. Menashi and others. Joked about Pence’s desire to hang LGBTQ people: In 2017, Trump joked about Vice President Pence’s anti-gay agenda saying “Don’t ask that guy—he wants to hang them all!” In the Workplace Supported employment discrimination against LGBTQ people: The Trump administration submitted amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court supporting discrimination against LGBTQ people. Banned transgender service members from the military: Against the expert advice of military leadership, medical authorities, budget analysts, 70% of Americans and the armed forces of allied countries, Trump and Pence banned transgender people from serving in the military. Rolled back Obama-era non-discrimination protections: Trump’s Department of Justice upended previous DOJ interpretations of the Civil Rights Act that protect transgender and non-binary workers from employment discrimination and ceased enforcing non-discrimination protections as well as taking a hostile stance to LGBTQ workers in court. Issued rule to license discrimination: Trump’s Department of Labor issued a regulation designed to allow federal contractors to claim a religious exemption to fire LGBTQ workers because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Kicked people living with HIV out of the military because of their status: The Department of Defense instituted a “Deploy or Get Out” policy, which would remove military personnel living with HIV from service solely because of their status. Created a hostile work environment for LGBTQ federal employees: According to Politico: “[The Trump administration] fostered a climate where six staffers who are LGBT described removing their wedding rings before coming to work in the morning, taking down photos of their partners and families or ultimately finding new jobs further away from certain political appointees. They did not want to be identified; two said they feared being reassigned for being gay.” In Health Care Undermine Section 1557 Rule: HHS published a proposed major change to the administrative rule interpreting Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to remove explicit protections for LGBTQ people in healthcare programs and activities by excluding LGBTQ people from protections from discrimination based on sex stereotyping and gender identity. Advocated for the elimination of the entire Affordable Care Act: The Justice Department issued a legal filing arguing that the entirety of the Affordable Care Act should be overturned. This move would jeopardize health care for over 130 million people with preexisting conditions like HIV and eliminate non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people. Created a Religious Discrimination Division: HHS created a new office whose sole purpose would be to defend physicians and other medical professionals who decide to refuse care, including to LGBTQ patients. Proposed cutting over $1.35 billion from PEPFAR budget: In his proposed FY 2019 budget, Trump cut $1.35 billion from, or 29% of PEPFAR’s budget. PEPFAR is the U.S. government program that fights AIDS abroad. In Schools Guidance for Schools on Transgender Students: The Departments of Education and Justice eliminated Obama-era guidance clarifying that schools must treat transgender students consistent with their gender identity. This encourages schools officials to permit harassment of transgender students, deny access to facilities consistent with gender identity, and refuse to use correct names and pronouns -- all inflicting untold emotional harm. Rejected Complaints From Transgender Students: The Department of Education refused to respond to civil complaints filed by transgender students, including those who were barred from using bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity. This increases the burden for transgender students to combat these harmful policies. Suggested it is acceptable for schools to discriminate against LGBTQ students while accepting tax-payer funds: Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has refused to rule out federal funding for schools that discriminate against LGBTQ students and has declined to state she would otherwise intervene should discrimination occur. Sexual Assault: DeVos rescinded Title IX rules related to schools’ obligations to address sexual harassment, including sexual violence. By eliminating the Obama-era rules, DeVos increased the standard of proof from “preponderance of the evidence” to “clear and convincing evidence” making it more difficult for survivors of sexual assault to obtain justice. LGBTQ people are disproportionately affected by sexual assault and harassment, and the stigma that many LGBTQ people face can make it more difficult for survivors to report. Eliminated language protecting LGBTQ children participating in the 4-H program: The Trump-Pence Administration ordered 4-H programs to remove a policy specifically welcoming LGBTQ children in the 4-H program, which led to the firing of an official who protested. Used Title IX to discriminate against trans students: the Department of Education claimed that school policies allowing trans youth to participate in sports consistent with their gender identity violated federal law and threatened to withhold funds. In Housing Allowed emergency shelters to deny access to transgender and gender nonconforming people: Despite the fact that LGBTQ people are significantly more likely to experience homelessness in their lives, HUD Secretary Ben Carson has proposed a rule to permit emergency shelters to deny access or otherwise discriminate against transgender and gender nonconforming peoplewho are homeless. HUD also canceled a scheduled survey on LGBTQ homelessness. Placed transgender incarcerated persons in the wrong prison: The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) rolled back an Obama-era policy that housed transgender prisoners consistent with their gender identity. With transgender people experiencing sexual assault at higher rates than average, this decision only puts them at further risk of assault. In Families Allowed foster care programs to discriminate while accepting tax-payer funds: Trump-Pence White House has proposed a federal regulation that would strip away nondiscrimination requirements and permit all Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grant recipients, notably adoption and foster care agencies, to discriminate against LGBTQ people, and in many circumstances religious minorities and women, and still receive federal funding. Refused visas to partners of diplomats: The State Department began refusing visas for same-sex partners of some diplomats and U.N. workers if they are not married. Changed rules to deny surrogate born children citizenship: The Trump Administration has interpreted immigration rules specifically so the child of a same-sex couple born abroad via surrogate would be considered "born out of wedlock" and making it more difficult to obtain U.S. citizenship. In Representation Erased transgender people: Trump’s HHS proposed a new definition that would narrowly define sex as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by birth. According to the New York Times: “The new definition would essentially eradicate federal recognition of the estimated 1.4 million [transgender] Americans.” In addition, agency staff, including those at the Centers for Disease Control, have been instructed to stop using the word transgender in official reports. Eliminated information on LGBTQ rights, mentions, and representation on government websites: Within hours of Trump’s swearing-in, pages on LGBTQ rights and recognition were removed from government websites, including the White House. Blocked questions regarding sexual orientation from consideration for the census: Trump and Pence have sought to block questions on sexual orientation from the census in order to erase LGBTQ people from official counts. This would, in turn, prevent the collection of crucial data that could help improve government programs and resources for LGBTQ people. Refused to recognize LGBTQ people in National AIDS day Address: Despite being the community most affected by the epidemic, Vice President Pence has consistently refused to acknowledge LGBTQ people in his addresses on National AIDS day. What specific legislation removed what specific right? Links? The post that was quoted had quite a bit of detail. However, you have to also realize that republicans aren’t going to just come out and say “we hate gay people and think they are evil, so we are taking their rights away.” They are much more insidious than that. Just like with anti-abortion laws. They don’t just come out and abolish abortion (yet). They make it more difficult by shaming, reducing access, etc.

I said it upthread, and I'll say it again after her most recent posts, I believe this pea may well be trolling us. If not, I truly feel for this young man. I think back to my son's HS years and know that he knew without any doubt that whatever gender he found himself attracted to, he was supported and loved unconditionally and fully by every single person who mattered in his life. Friends, family, teachers, coaches. His "official" coming out only happened because he was ill, needed medical care, was 19 and in college, and he felt that we needed to know. Otherwise his gender preference would have been the same non-issue it would have been if he declared that he was attracted to women. My hope is that all families feel the same. Maybe not in this generation or the next, but soon. I adore my (31YO) son (if y'all haven't aready noticed) and I am thrilled he's found a wonderful man, and they have made a life of love and caring for one another. That's all any of us can wish for, yes?

Since you don't care to engage in any meaningful conversation, just throwing random updates at us, it seems pretty obvious you just wanted to stir the pot, maybe test us to see how we'd respond or whatever. There is a happy medium between arguing and just ignoring people. So - you had some incredibly kind words and support from the Peas as we always do when someone is down, but there's been no thanks from you, no recognition of that, just obtuse posts about chess etc. So, are you happy now? Did you achieve what you wanted?

Since she refuses to answer, I’d just go with what she’s already ADAMANTLY stated on the subject—that she stated being gay is a “mental illness”, that LBGTQ/trans are “freak shows” that She and her religion say that “gays are sinners going to hell”, and clearly that she fully supports all politicians want to wipe the LBGTQ off the earth. She’s posted enough of exactly that here for the peas to see exactly how she stands.

That said, again, I wish nothing but the best for your grandson. How would it be arguing if you simply addressed all the people who want to know if what is going on with your grandson has changed your heart and mind about gay people. That is all everyone who has treated you kindly after years of garbage from you really cares to know. Clearly, you haven't changed or you would say it.

but, how ironic that she has chosen *rainbow* as her username. Given her thoughts on LBGTQ. Not particularly. Many right-wing Christians want to "reclaim" the rainbow "for God." Cuz, you know, a symbol of a worldwide genocide wherein God killed every fetus, infant, toddler and child on earth - save for one family - makes the Biblical rainbow such a symbol of LOVE!

In a perfect world it wouldn't, but we humans are a messy bunch. I'm sure you've noticed many, many instances where people from all walks don't do the most logical, or correct, or appropriate thing right away. It's just the way the mind works sometimes.

I was able to talk to him yesterday and he sounded good. It breaks my heart to think of how this great kid really has been abandoned by his parents. His bio mom left when he was two years old, took a plane to California, and never looked back. Then my daughter married his father (way too soon, I think) and cared for him since then. His father was cheating on my daughter several times and she finally divorced him. When she left him she took both kids (she and he had a child together as well) and he was ok with it. Over time he visited less and stopped calling. Now he doesn't visit or call and my daughter even emailed him several times and mentioned that he was in the hospital. No response. My grandson told the therapist that the only reason he is still alive is because of my daughter. He knows that she loves him. I always tell him that I do too. I'm so thankful that he asked for help, and we have an opportunity to show him that we love him no matter what. He's a really good kid. <3

I too didn't reply right away, didn't I know what to say. First off, "the gay thing" jumped out at me like a flashing neon light. Then the OP's history came into question. I hardly keep "spread sheets", hell I hardly keep up day to day, BUT I got the " on guard" feeling that OP was far from and Ally in the past. The peas posting here before me confirmed my feeling without having to investigate. He doesn't have a mental illness by being gay. OP, on the other hand, I hope you get your head on straight for the sake of the child you claim to care about. I hope he gets the help he needs and the peace he deserves. I truly hope rainbow that now that it's hit the proverbial "closer to home", you see the light. And the rainbow.

This situation is not political at all. I said "the gay thing" to differentiate between one thing and another thing. He is in the hospital because of his abandonment issues, nothing else. I do love him no matter what, which isn't political either. I will always love him. I'm curious though, what rights are being stripped away from gay people? Trump had four years to do that and I haven't seen anything he's done to do that. Unless you are him or perhaps his doctor, you do not know this is only reason he is there. Could be a variety/combination of things, like perhaps what he hears around him when no one knows he's listening or speaker(s) don't think it affects him. Also he's not going to tell anyone anything that doesn't feel safe to say around specific people or orbit of those people. Not your daughter, and not you if he doesn't TRULy feel totally safe which would include what he's heard people say and their negative to him opinions. Please WAKE UP.
