I urge you all to listen to the podcast "And Just Like That...The Writers Room" that NicL mentioned on another thread. It is sooooo good. It is by the director, Michael Patrick King, and the producers and writers of the show, and gives some wonderful insights into why and how they wrote certain storylines. They talked this week about Willie Garson's death, and how they decided to write him out the way they did. Michael's script originally had a scene with Carrie and Stanford set in Carrie's apartment. Stanford explained to Carrie what was going on, and that he was having a life crisis. Carrie said to him "Life's too short, go see the geishas for me Stanny." Willie rang Michael and told him that he really wanted to do the scene but he just couldn't physically do it. He goes into a bit more detail about it, you'll just have to listen to it yourself! They release a new podcast episode every Friday, the day after each new TV episode airs. (Well, Friday here in Australia anyway.)

you'll just have to listen to it yourself! I can't be bothered with podcasts - I get bored. Can't you just tell me? I just read this: Speaking to Vanity Fair, showrunner Michael Patrick King explained: “I thought, ‘I’m not gonna really lean into this [death as a storyline].’ It’s too sad. And it’s too tragic. It’s not a fictional death. It’s a real death. So I just kind of put a little patch of thin ice that Anthony and Carrie had to skate over to get to the other side. I just sort of made it as light and as silly as possible and we went forward.”

I thought that podcasts would be right up your alley because you listen to audio books. It was pretty much what Bridget said above, and that he (Michael) didn't want to make it into a joke. He sounded quite emotional when he was talking about it. At the start of the latest podcast they touched on the negative press they have been getting, particularly around Samantha, and how no matter how they handle certain storylines, some people just won't be happy. I forgot to give my thoughts on the episode! Charlotte was pissing me off big time. She seems to have turned into almost a caricature of herself, prissy stuck up rich private school mommy. She kind of redeemed herself somewhat towards the end of the episode when she gently put LTW's MIL in her place about the paintings.

What did everyone think of episode 4? I have to say this one didn’t keep my attention as much as the first 3. Yeah I agree. This episode didn't do it for me as much as the first three but it was still good. I'm loving the series so far.

I think audiobooks is why I can't do podcasts, audiobooks have a clear purpose and it's just the story. Podcasts have too much talking...they waffle on...laugh, talk over each other. It just gets too annoying for me. I've tried a few different ones and never last more than one episode. Wasn't Charlotte always like that though? Are you (we) just less tolerant of that sort of character now? Take away the rich part...and I'm sure there's still lots of women like her around . I like that they are being more diverse, but I feel like it's a bit too try hard and I don't think it needs to be a part of the official storyline, just include a more diverse range of characters (actors) without making a big deal about it. Oh and all 3 of them put out joint statement about supporting the women accusing Chris Noth.

THIS! I agree. I feel like they are trying way too hard and checking boxes of all the groups/topics they are including. There are scenes that feel like the old SATC and that’s what is carrying the show for me.

I found this episode cringy and difficult to watch. Why are they pushing a bunch of new friendships. I don't understand Steve and Miranda's parenting. Why does Brady leave his underwear on the kitchen floor? Why do his parents let him call his mother a bitch?

Just finished Ep 5 and this is my favourite so far. I laughed out loud in parts. Carrie wetting the bed was the funniest thing I've watched in a long time.
Although I thought the inclusion of mentioning Samantha wasn't really necessary. I feel like they dealt with it in the first couple of eps. I think in real life if you had such a close group of friends and one distances themselves, you would still talk about them because they were such a big part of your life and they are a part of all your stories - but in a TV show and given that Cattrall has been so vitriolic, I think it would have been better just to let it. I'm undecided if they are reaching out or trying to annoy her more?
I really like Miranda's storyline too and I think it probably feels very authentic because Nixon went through it herself.

I watched episode four last night, and I was kind of dreading it based on all the comments I have heard about it. but - I liked it. I did not mind the bit about Stanford and how they got rid of him. He and Anthony hated each other when they first met, and they were not happy in their marriage, so I actually laughed out loud when Anthony said that they were so happy together. It was light and it was believable, and I thought that part was just fine.
I do feel they are trying to make up for mistakes the first time around. As in, they were not very diverse back then and now they are shoving it down our throats.
For the first three episodes, I cringed at Kristin Davis’s lips, and in this episode they were a little less puffy and in-your-face.

I watched! Those Diwali saris are just stunning. However, I think killing off Big in Ep1 was a huge mistake. Everything keeps coming back to him and his death and it's just sad. They are trying to address ALL the issues and it just feels.... surface. I did read that due to Noth's sexual misconduct, they have edited the final scene. Apparently he was supposed to appear in a vision or something to Carrie as she sprinkles his ashes and they have cut him out. So it's not only sad on the show, but disappointing in real life too

I never really watched the first run of this show so am going into this one fairly new. To me it's a 'trash' show that I need to watch right now. My brain capacity is limited at the moment so I'm just enjoying watching people, who can afford multi-million dollar apartments in NYC, deal with life's drama .

I suppose it depends on how much the actors are enjoying it and want to do more, but I feel a bit like they are just hitting their stride now.

They can’t have him break her heart yet again. That’s been done over and over. So there’s this…she’s broken hearted of course but in a different way.

The writers kind of said it was always abut Carrie finding herself…so losing Big fits into her journey and makes sense.

I'm still watching, and enjoying it for the most part I heard something on the radio this week that had me kind of in shock. They said that the characters in the Golden girls when it was on were actually younger than the ladies in the SATC reboot are now! When the show started Rose was 55, Dorothy was 53, and Blanche was 47 (or really 53 if she was lying about her age). They just seemed so much older!!! I think it was the clothing & hair

I think it was the clothing & hair and we were young so 55 seemed ancient! I remember watching a rerun several years ago and it was an episode where Blanche thought she was pregnant and it turned out to be menopause and I was surprised because I'd always thought they were all supposed to be in their 60s & 70s and Sophia in her late 80s.

Really worth listening to. I am enjoying the reboot, but I get so much more out of each episode after listening to the writers side of things. And it’s also fun to hear how some of the storylines come about, from their own personal experiences.

For a gay man that's a lot of hate directed at a nonbinary person. Just goes to show that a gay white men can be as much of a clueless bigot as a straight white man...and neither really has any business commenting on a show about women for women.

I wish they weren't so in-your-face with all the social issues. To me, these women wouldn't have been so ignorant to the world around them. I would've like them to have expanded into these areas naturally - the friendships introduced like any other friendship without the neon OMG I HAVE A BLACK FRIEND!, for example.
I hope there's a second season; I feel like it would be better.

I watched the most recent episode. Man, I am so uncomfortable watching these women - Carrie's ackward date to give her book/readers some hope. I was also confused - did a whole year of seasons pass? It appeared to as the window showed snow, rain, sun, so I assumed seasons passed, but then for her to keep using the "my husband died" - it was not amusing. Charlotte & Harry - I like them, but it was just kind of wierd that she wouldn't apologize for accidently knocking him down. She apologizes for every single thing and can't say sorry for that? Just seemed out of character and the whole "women apologize for EVERYTHING" - ok, but then STOP apologizing for that dumb shit. I don't get it. And Miranda and Steve - it just made me sad. I am watching the OG SATC and they were so great together.
BTW - as I am rewatching SATC, Carrie says typically at the end of every episode "And Just Like That..." - I never picked up on the reason for the title of the revival. Now it makes a lot of sense!
