I watched the most recent episode. Man, I am so uncomfortable watching these women - Carrie's ackward date to give her book/readers some hope. I was also confused - did a whole year of seasons pass? It appeared to as the window showed snow, rain, sun, so I assumed seasons passed, but then for her to keep using the "my husband died" - it's become kind of super cringey these last few episodes. I, too, was confused that it seemed that a year had passed but then Miranda hadn't heard from Che for 3 months after their 'encounter' in the kitchen so I dunno. I don't like the outside friendships and don't really care about those characters except Seema's relationship with Carrie. I do like her. I don't like how they are making Steve into a doddering old man. Every episode, they dog on him for something age related. Anthony and his one-liners are kind of the comic relief that is needed to lighten things up a bit.

I only figured it out because Miranda mentioned it had been three months since she sent her message to Che. This episode was better to me, except I'm still not loving the Miranda storyline. The new friends are seeming to fit in more naturally now - I wish it could've been that way from the start. Did anyone watch the preview for next week?

I feel like I have to cover my eyes during Miranda’s scenes. Out of pure cringe. And that makes me sad because she was my favorite in the original series.
I’m still slogging through the series but it feels more like an obligation than something I actually look forward to. If I didn’t have the previous history with the characters I would have given up already.

I hate that they are making the characters so old. I am older than all of them. Steve is like an 80 year old. At least Miranda is still interested in sex. Both Harry and Steve are not like real characters to me. I don’t know what the purpose of the tennis was for. I was also confused by how much time had elapsed.
I agree that Anthony’s humor is saving the show. He also doesn’t act ancient.
Carrie’s white dress at the auction was amazing! I also want her purple jacket from the scene with her publisher.

I’m still watching and will continue to watch for however long it’s on.
But SATC is my top show to rewatch. I’ve watched each episode dozens of times. On my next rewatch I won’t be including this series (or the movies)-it’s just not at the same level.
Having said that, the previews for episode 8 look really good. Seems very reminiscent of the original show.

And Miranda and Steve - it just made me sad. I am watching the OG SATC and they were so great together. I think it's interesting that you thought they were great together. I could never understand why Steve stuck around for as long as he did, then why he got back together with her. She was so bloody awful to him! She was better with him the second time around, but I never saw them as "couple goals". Maybe I need to watch some of the later episodes again to remind me. I haven't listened to the latest podcast yet. I will do that today and come back with any salient points!

I think this came out at the picnic table scene? At least that charlotte was aware (Carrie was there and peed the bed when it happened}. I wonder if they are doubting her identity? They seem more bothered by that than. air and a betraying Steve

Charlotte & Harry - I like them, but it was just kind of wierd that she wouldn't apologize for accidently knocking him down. She apologizes for every single thing and can't say sorry for that? Just seemed out of character and the whole "women apologize for EVERYTHING" - ok, but then STOP apologizing for that dumb shit. I don't get it. I think that storyline is weird too. Even the most aggressive jerk of a tennis partner (man or woman) would have said “Sorry. You okay?” after knocking down their partner. I think the “I’m going to stop apologizing for everything” storyline would have made a lot more sense if Harry missed a dentist appointment and said to Charlotte “you know you usually remind me when I have an appointment,” or maybe if one of the girls suddenly remembered at 10:30pm she had a school project due and yelled at Charlotte because there wasn’t any poster board in the apartment.” If she refused to apologize for those type things I would cheer her on and say “It’s about time we women stopped taking responsibility for other people’s actions!”

So what did we think of this recent episode?
I have to admit that I was totally triggered when Miranda told Steve she wanted a divorce because she wasn't happy. Same thing happened to me and it brought it all back. I don't think she and Che will last so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Charlotte handled things the way that I thought she would. I didn't expect her to admit that she still blows Harry to her daughter. It seemed very Charlotte to say she was looking for cancer rather than admit sex.

I don't think they are saying all men are 'old' at this age...I think they are just saying the character of Steve is. He's obviously settled and happy with the way their life is, and Miranda isn't...this is fiction, but I have seen similar things play out in real life with friends. I thought their talk felt very genuine. And wasn't Harry always older than Charlotte? I also think the male characters aren't really 'fleshed out' because we only see them in small snippets & they aren't the focus of the show. I was really hoping Charlotte would say it to Lily, but I still liked that they acknowledged it's one thing to want to do it in theory, but quite another to actually do it.
I did like the juxtaposition with Carrie and her new neighbour...all the times Carrie sat on those stairs and didn't care what anyone else could hear has come full circle. And we got another nice penis!

I'm only part way through this week's podcast, so I might have to come back to this thread later with more comments. lot of the storylines are based on things that have really happened to the writers.
For example, the hideous outfit that Carrie wears when she walks around the block is based on a photo that was taken of Rachna Fruchbom (who wrote this week's episode) when she was out in the lot having a cigarette. And when they filmed that episode there were members of the public watching the filming, and all of a sudden there were a whole lot of people dressed as smoking-Carrie for Halloween, wearing babushkas and dishwashing gloves!
They also spoke about how they had to get the Versace gown out of storage in Milan for this episode. Apparently when they used this gown in SATC, it was sent to them by Versace, and one of the costume people on the show called Michal Patrick King in to show him. But he didn't want to use it at first, because Carrie wouldn't have had enough room in her luggage to take it to Paris. But they decided it was such a fabulous outfit, they had to include it.
I find that I look forward to the podcast each week almost as much as I look forward to the actual show!
Regarding Steve and Miranda...... Even though Steve has turned into a boring old man who wants nothing more than to sit on the couch every night, I did feel quite heartbroken for him. What was the comment he made? Something along the lines of him always being there for her whenever she changes her mind about him, leaves him, then comes back to him. But he can't do that any more. I see Steve as being like Aidan - both really decent guys who deserved better than Carrie and Miranda.
And I think the writers are setting up Miranda for heartbreak. I wouldn't be surprised it she finds Che with another lover when she surprises them in Cleveland.

I also think the male characters aren't really 'fleshed out' because we only see them in small snippets & they aren't the focus of the show. I saw an interview with David Eigenberg / Steve, and he refers to himself as the "in and out guy", in that he pops in and out of the show. And I didn't realise that he actually suffers from hearing loss IRL, and the writers decided to write that into the storyline.

And I didn't realise that he actually suffers from erring loss IRL, and the writers decided to write that into the storyline. That's interesting. I also thought it was connected to him being a bartender/owning bars - working surrounded by lots of noise and loud music for many years. That's a legitimate scenario for earlier than normal hearing loss. For example, the hideous outfit that Carrie wears when she walks around the block is based on a photo that was taken of Rachna Fruchbom (who wrote this week's episode) when she was out in the lot having a cigarette That gave me flashbacks. When I was still a smoker I started dating an aesthetist at work...so you can imagine how he felt about smoking and I didn't want to keep talking about it so I told him I quit. I'd have my last cigarette then have a shower & wash my hair and get dressed before we went out. This one time he got caught up in a last minute surgery and he was going to be 2 hours late...I got undressed, put my hair in a shower cap and stood naked in the shower with the overhead fan on and had 2 cigarettes, then cleaned my teeth and got fully dressed again. Seeing Carrie like that made me snort out loud. BTDT.

I used to put on gloves and a big jacket or jumper to have a cigarette. I'd put baby powder in my hair to cover the smell. I also remember going away camping, and I would have two quick cigarettes in the shower block every day! I would turn the hot water on as high as it would go to get lots of steam, and spray my deodorant around to cover the smell. I also used to tuck two cigarettes and a lighter down my sock and say that I was going for a run, then go hide in the park for a smoke. Then of course because I had just been "for a run" I would have to jump in the shower as soon as I got home. So yeah, I LOL'd at that too! I had to laugh though, because they probably thought they were so original with the dishwashing gloves. But Kath did it on Kath and Kim years ago!!

When Che said, "I can't give you anything traditional." I think Miranda took that to mean a lesbian relationship, but Che is meaning an open relationship, not bound to a certain gender. I loved that we got to see Carrie's gown again. I read an article which said the dress was valued at $80K! How on earth did she ever afford it??

I thought that Aleksandr gave it to her, when she got to Paris. Then on the podcast when they were talking about the logistics of Carrie taking it to Paris, I got confused.

Holy cow. This week’s episode was painful to watch - Charlotte is such a cartoon. Overstating and over acting with the whole period/tampon story. However the sneak peek for next week’s finale looks good.

AussieMeg and pjaye - did you all watch the finale yet??? I enjoyed it more than I thought it would, but I wonder if this is a one & done - overall, it was just "off" compared to the original series. FYI, there is another 1:15 hr documentary on the filming of the series.

I just watched it. She was so stunning in that dress!! They obviously cut Big out of the dream sequence which is a shame.
I've really enjoyed it for the most part and thought it was a good follow on to the original. I'd definitely watch another season. I liked the newer characters too. I think the last episode was deliberately left open ended...they've all moved on to new phases and we could leave them there, or if the show was successful enough it's easy to keep going with the storylines.
I did wonder if they are deliberately trying to piss off Cattrall now.

Just finished the last episode and overall I think they did pretty well. I liked it and would watch another season I just hope it (not sure how to phrase this) settles? and they stop trying so hard to be woke. I loved the chemistry between Carrie and the podcast producer and and I cried when she was on the bridge A question about the filming - there were at least a couple of broader shots of the streets of New York and no one in the background in a mask. So can they shut down a whole block or 2 to film using extras with no masks? NY residents are used to filming disruption and don't mind a detour? Just curious/no experience with this sort of thing!! Edited to put in a spoiler

I think they did a good thing with the Samantha scenes in the finale. They basically stated the actress doesn't own the character...the show does.

I think they did a good thing with the Samantha scenes in the finale. They basically stated the actress doesn't own the character...the show does. I haven't watched AJLT, nor was I big into the original series, but I read this thread because my friends talk about the show and I want to be somewhat in the loop. 😂 At what point is a character influenced by the actor/actress to become partly their creation too? For example, many of the characters in the Office have interests/quirks based on the people who portray them. In that case, I'd say the character belongs as much to them as it does the show's creators. As another example, Michael Vartan's character Vaughn in Alias in into hockey because Michael Vartan is into hockey- I doubt JJ Abrams would have made Vaughn a hockey fan on his own. 🤷♀️ I also think when someone is so identified as a character they have portrayed, they do have a bit of a say in the character's outcome. Samantha Jones IS Kim Cattrall- it's not like Dr. Who, where there have been 10+ doctors, or James Bond.

I ended up really liking the series in the end and I hope there's a second season.
But I really do not like Miranda. I feel like she's such a hypocrite. She doesn't like people judging her, yet she judges everyone. (Don't judge me because I want a drink! OMG - you believe in Heaven!?) When Carrie was having the discussion with her about Paris/LA it reminded me so much of how she treated Carrie when she went to Paris with the Russian. She was steadfast against it because Carrie was giving up her career and everything for this man... yet here she is doing the same thing.
