I impulse bought Echo Parks Day in the Life the other day and decided I want to do a 6x12 insert each month with a simple DITL. We’ll see if I remember to do it monthly like I want, but I think it will be fun for the kids to see! Todays the first one since I just realized it’s the last day of January so no more waiting! A monthly DITL would be so fun to look back on! I hope you were able to get yours done for today!

I had a productive weekend. I did a major cleanup of my craft area, printed most of January's photos and finished up my 2021 PL. 2021 ended up being quite a thick album. My bathroom scale tells me it is almost 10lbs worth of documenting Wow! Now I want to finish my 2021 album so I, too, can weigh it! Come back and report what your final album weigh-in is

Monthly Recaps - anyone have this done or an example they can share? Sure! I'm a big recap person and work monthly in PL. What kind of recap are you looking for? General "extra" stuff or big recap of everything? One of the first people to advocate loudly for monthly recaps was Cat Saunders. She inspired me years ago to go down this route. Sharing her recap approach in both 8.5x11 and 3x4 (in the minimalist style): Here's my Week 3 of 2022 - this is the first spread I've actually completed for the year (still waiting on AE stuff to get here for the other two spreads). So lovely and cosy-looking! What a fun idea to add so many portraits of the family members lying down. It really captures hibernating through winter (and illness) so well and brings great cohesion to your spread. I hope you're all better now and that the nasty Covid-19 episode is behind you. 2021 ended up being quite a thick album. My bathroom scale tells me it is almost 10lbs worth of documenting *le gasp* Oh elljay, you birthed a big baby... Mazel! Here's to 2022 being another healthy one! Has anyone attempted doing a PL for a past year? I’m returning to PL after many years and looking Back through 2021 I’d really like to document but not sure how hard it would be or if anyone has tips . We have some PL-ers working back in time currently in a different thread. Chinagirl828 is working on her 2010 PL album currently! 2021 is still very fresh in your mind so it's not that hard a task. Your best bet will be to first work through as many of the memories you still have in your head. Get them down on paper. I'd recommend using a notebook or a sheet of paper per month to make it extra easy on you. Mark down everything and anything that comes to mind: what you did, what you watched/read/listened to, political/science news you wish to include. You can colour code with highlighters afterwards to help you quickly navigate the different categories of stuff. Next, use your email inbox, text messages and whatnot to recall precise dates or more things you may have missed. This is a great time to take screenshots of group chats, text convos and everything else you wish to include in your album. Finally, go hunt for photos in your various cloud setups and on your memory cards. If it feels too overwhelming to do all the photos for the year, just limit yourself to one or two months at a time. Use Google Images to find high resolution photos of the book covers, movie and series posters, podcast logos, etc. And start putting it together. If you were working further back in time, it may have been better to start with the photos but since it's so close in time, I'd rely on my memory as a starting point. Good luck! And, most importantly, have fun.

Happy first of February, fellow PL-ers!
For those documenting in real time: What is already on the schedule for February? Have you got anything special you need to think of in advance such as specific photos you wish to take over the next few weeks? Are you watching and documenting the Winter Olympics? Valentine's Day? Are there any cultural celebrations in your nook of the world this month? Looking forward to new releases (series, movies, music, books) for February?

I will include the Superbowl and I plan on taking a self portrait holding a sign that says 2-22-22 (I did this on 1-11-11 so thought I would re-create the photo)

We have some PL-ers working back in time currently in a different thread. Chinagirl828 is working on her 2010 PL album currently! Yep, I'm just crazy enough to decide to work on a PL album 12 years later. I'm lucky that I have really good notes for around 4 months of this project, but nothing except the photos for the other 8 months. I've already started working on pages that have no notes, and am using the photos as a prompt to tell small stories from this approximate time period. So I have a photo of my cat in the middle of our filled grocery bags and will write about how she is always curious to see what we've bought; a photo of my desk at work will have some thoughts about this particular job; a photo taken at floor level of my feet will focus on how I loved the pair of shoes I was wearing and how this period of time really marked a change in my style and these shoes really encapsulate that. I have no doubt there will be lots of who/what/where type journaling in this album, but I'm also finding lots of these little stories, that I haven't really documented, or which contribute to a bigger story about the habits and changes that have lasted over the years. I think for 2021 it should be much easier as you will probably recall much more about why you took certain photos or what was happening beyond the picture that you might want to record. Good luck if you decide to make the leap!

It’s helping me better focus what I want to include! In February I plan on doing another DITL, but much better planned than Januarys. I realized I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to document for that. I want to be intentional with keeping quotes this month of the fun and interesting things my kids say. I’m thinking one at least a week, so one kid featured each week. I’m not sure what else I want to or should include.

Are there any cultural celebrations in your nook of the world this month? Looking forward to new releases (series, movies, music, books) for February? My BF's & my six-month anniversary + Valentine's Day is this month, and it's the first time in 5+ years where I've had a romantic relationship to scrap with all those lovey-dovey kits that come out at this time of year so I'm psyched about that. I prefer the summer Olympics sports over the winter Olympics sports so I might watch some but maybe just enough for one photo or card in my monthly random photo round-up vs. a whole page. We are currently in the middle of a snowstorm where we're forecasted to receive between 12-18 inches of snow but the kids are over at their dad's so I'm not sure I will do more than mention the storm and scrap the photos I've taken from the doorways in a pocket page. January & February are my least-photographed and least-scrapped months so I'm not anticipating a bunch of stories to record this month, and that's okay. [July, December, and October are my most-photographed and most-scrapped months in case you were curious.]

Is anyone working on PL this weekend? I've got my album out this evening and working on it here and there.
For February I'm really excited to use every journal card from my Paper Person sub. That's my goal for the month. No more hoarding, I am using the things!

I've been jumping between my 2010 and 2021 albums. I've got about 18 or 20 pages to complete 2021, but I've been really enjoying digging back into the older photos in my 2010 album.

In advance...I know I want to document the Olympics in some way - I am sure I will include the opening/closing ceremonies and my favorite events. Yay, here we go, the Games have officially begun. I have two weeks of my favourite winter sport ahead of me and it's heavenly. I want to be intentional with keeping quotes this month of the fun and interesting things my kids say. I’m thinking one at least a week, so one kid featured each week. Love this idea, boymom5! We often forget to capture our loved ones' voices in this photo-centric hobby. The way we think and express ourselves is a big part of who we are. My BF's & my six-month anniversary + Valentine's Day is this month, and it's the first time in 5+ years where I've had a romantic relationship to scrap with all those lovey-dovey kits that come out at this time of year so I'm psyched about that Have loads of fun using up all your hoarded romantic pretties, wordyphotogbabe! You should totally lean into the theme by doing all kinds of "silly" Valentine's Day things. His and hers Starbucks, picking out cheesy Hallmark cards together, guessing each other's favourite chocolate bar at the grocery store, etc. One 9x12 isn't enough and two is too much...so this is my compromise when I have extra pictures. Yes, 6x12 inserts are the best! Love the balance between the fun bright pastels and the dark/white colours in these spreads. I giggled when I saw your weather app screenshot that read "It's really cold outside". My app definitely doesn't say such things. Is anyone working on PL this weekend? I've got my album out this evening and working on it here and there. We're birthdaying these next few days but with several friends either down with Covid-19 (despite being boosted, yikes) or nursing kids who have caught Covid-19, it looks like there'll be some free time to document. I definitely plan on cosying up with the Olympics and my PL cards for the next couple of weeks. I've been jumping between my 2010 and 2021 albums. I've got about 18 or 20 pages to complete 2021, but I've been really enjoying digging back into the older photos in my 2010 album. Go, Chinagirl828, go! (how very Ali Edwardsy of me ) I kind of love that you're going back and forth between times separated by a full decade in your life. It has got to make you think of how much has happened, how you've changed, where your life trajectory is going...

It's definitely interesting watching me make decisions in 2010 where I know how they turned out, especially where I have journaling from that time. Early that year I had to choose between two jobs in the same company. The one I chose turned out not to be the best career move, but it did allow me to get together with my now DH (who would have been my direct line manager if I'd chosen the other role). Who knows how the story would have played out if I'd chosen the other role.

Some of my favourite pages in my kids albums are ones where I just have a whole big list of the crazy funny things that they said in the past six months (I did them from when they started talking until they were about seven as they stop being as cute!) - you forget after a while all the cute ways they mispronounce things and all of their "words of wisdom" when they are talking about their favourite things. I just wrote them in a word doc or on my phone after I overheard them and collated them on a page every now and then. BEST EVER! I highly recommend for any peas with little peas running around... also great for a future 21st birthday celebration I would think

My birthday was yesterday but since we're still not mingling with people or eating in restaurants it was a low key day and I didn't even take a photo yesterday. Today we're going to the Oakland Zoo for Glowfari (think christmas lights in the shape of animals) so that should be fun. We're going camping during winter break in a couple of weeks too so that should be fun. We were thinking about going to a Lunar New Year parade but there were way too many people projected to go so we stayed home. We shall see what the rest of the month holds. I do like the idea of documenting the funny things my 6 year old says, I do write them in my notes app on my phone. I just need to get them into my scrapbook. Is anyone working on PL this weekend? I've got my album out this evening and working on it here and there. Hopefully I'll have some time tomorrow to work on the rest of January. I have all photos printed but I only have the first week completed.

I spent way too much time Saturday deciding on pictures and elements for my January DITL. Then I put it together yesterday. I have a couple of things I want to add like more journaling (kind of regretting deciding to type everything this year!) But I’m pretty happy to have it done and it’s helped me think through more what I document with pictures for February.

I finally got tired of waiting for my Story kit from AE to do my title page and bought the digitals to get started. So I have my 2022 title page done. I had used that app to make ourselves into Disney cartoons and saved the screenshots, printed them out and added them to my page. It looks so good with the Begin story kit cards! Love the fun colors of that kit

Thank you! Belated birthday wishes, fellow February baby! I hope you had the glowiest of fun at the zoo. Thank you! It was really cool and my 6 year old loved it. Maybe someday I'll be able to have an adult birthday again. I have a daunting task ahead of me, I took over 70 photos at the zoo so this week's photo editing will take some time. I'm happy I've been keeping up with the photo editing and printing each week so far and now I have to get better about actually making the layouts.

So for the "title" page of dd's 2020-2022 pocket page album, I used a 9x12 single pocket page and have 3 photos from each year with the year next to it. Will post a photo later.
