So, my advice would be to switch up the product rather than your photos. I've done heavy B&W spreads before and there's a few where I really wish I'd balanced the B&W shots with colour photos more. You won't regret toning down your Simple Stories line a bit (diluting it with some white cardstock or other, more neutral, stuff from your stash, not necessarily excluding it completely) but you might really regret only having B&W photographs of your life. Colours are important, too. Thanks sleepingbooty! That's a great idea. I can envision how using more white/cream in my spreads will make make the photos pop more.

PL newbie here. What do you do in your PL when your entire month is a bust? We started off January in quarantine due to holiday family exposure (everyone took a home rapid test the morning we got together and tested negative, but one person got their PCR test results several days later, and was positive for Covid). Then my husband got sick (non-Covid). After 3+ weeks of staying home (we're senior empty nesters), Sunday I went to my daughter's house to have a scrapbooking day. Yesterday my daughter called to let me know her husband woke up not feeling well, so she gave him a rapid test...and he was positive. I had kissed him hello and goodbye. I scheduled DH and me for a PCR test on Thursday. Thank goodness my entire family is fully vaccinated! Meanwhile, I have nothing to scrap for this month. Hope you are all doing ok. Here is my covid week. Sorry I don’t have a still photo yet. www.instagram.com/reel/CZJ3MGBlh7g/?utm_medium=copy_link

I have a documenter IG account all set up but I haven't actually jumped in and started following or posting yet. I'm so on the fence just because I'm an inconsistent sharer. Ugh. I should just go for it... If you haven't noticed, I'm an inconsistent sharer on instagram too, so just go for it!

Hope it isn't too late to join in on this thread. I've been a bit out of it this month... 1. Got plans for next year's PL? This year I am going to stick with the same set up I used for 2021. It worked well for me and I am super pleased with how my album turned out.
2. Format? 12x12 design A page protectors. I am used to this layout and I don't have to think too much, which is great. I do a monthly spread but I often add inserts of different sizes, 6x12, 9x12 or 8.5x11. I also include other projects such as mini-WITL or DITL spreads. I am trying to stick to only one album per year so that everything is housed in the same place. I do occasionally make layouts for my kids' albums but as they get older these are becoming quite rare.
3. Products (new and old)? Last year I had a subscription to AE SBTM kit. I love these kits but I hated the hasstle of a. having to wait two to three months to get them b. having to put them through customs and pay taxes and other fees c. some kits never arrived at all. So this year I am going to use up my stash and use digital kits as well. It does make me feel good to have less stuff and use what I have but I must admit to really missing the physical products too
4. Anything new or particularly different to your 2021 approach? The only thing different is that I won't be getting a physical kit to use each month. The rest will be basically the same. If it ain't broken then don't fix it, right?

I'm late to this thread and late to start my PL 2022 album, though its not for lack of motivation its because of lack of product. I'm still waiting on my AE kit! I had planned on using some sale kits from her stories revisited sale but unfortunately my order arrived without any product. I did receive a refund but I had to rethink my plan. So I ordered the Begin story kit, thought it would fit nicely for my title page (and it works for my OLW) and I'm still waiting for it to ship. So I have an album ready to go, planned out which photos I want to use and here I wait...
I'm so close to just emailing them and cancelling the whole thing but not sure I can do that without penalty(just restarted the sub) ☹

Hope it isn't too late to join in on this thread. I've been a bit out of it this month... It never is too late to join a PL thread! Ever. Welcome, welcome. Make yourself at home! Tea? Coffee? Freshly squeezed orange juice? Last year I had a subscription to AE SBTM kit. I love these kits but I hated the hasstle of a. having to wait two to three months to get them b. having to put them through customs and pay taxes and other fees c. some kits never arrived at all. So this year I am going to use up my stash and use digital kits as well. It does make me feel good to have less stuff and use what I have but I must admit to really missing the physical products too I'm sorry about the issues with the monthly kit, especially the extra fees. It's disappointing. I hope you can replenish your stash and find some kits you love in one of the sales AE is bound to have later this year. It doesn't exactly make up for the monthly kit thrill but it might act as some kind of consolation. And only parcel to track + pay for! *hugs* Yes, you should. After seeing your homemade cards, I'd love to see your PL spreads. Oh you, flattery is truly the great enabler! 🥰 Hope you are all doing ok. Here is my covid week. Sorry I don’t have a still photo yet. Love the spread despite not loving the theme of your week. I hope you are all ok now. It's nice to have it in the books though. Hopefully, we will eventually look back on these times in our albums and be like: "Whoa, those wild pandemic days... Man, I'd forgotten how weird it all was!" 🤞 I can envision how using more white/cream in my spreads will make make the photos pop more. Yay! Easy and cheap solutions, right? Let us know how it goes. B&W photos are great but I think you'll eventually be really happy to have some colour shots in those pages as well. 😊

I have yet to begin as I’m waiting on some supplies I want to use for it. I should get some by mid next week and the others will be March as they are preordered for end of Feb. I’m thinking I may just skip some of the pics I know I’ll use with those items and move along once I receive them.
I have been editing pics and pulling together what I want to share story wise. Until next week I’ll keep working on my older albums.

Well so far I have completed 7 layout spreads and am working on my 8th. I am back tracking into 2021 and will have a 2021-2022 album and even may go as far back as 2020. Not a lot happened the last 2 years and who knows what 2022 will bring.
I need to get the 9x12 single pocket inserts as I want to do a few traditional layouts since I only have 1-2 photos of the event and don't want to have a lot of decorative pockets.
So far I am really enjoying this way of documenting. It is WAY less stressfull than traditional 12x12 layouts and I can easily include more photos without having to make them smaller to fit on a single page layout. I can also stretch my stash which is nice.

Question: are there Journaling cards? Like just white and off white 3x4 cards with lines?

Question: are there Journaling cards? Like just white and off white 3x4 cards with lines? The only ones I know for sure were BH's, with the rounded corners. Oh and KP had some with different colored lines at one point, but those are long gone. Looks like ACOT still has some of the BH ones!

Question: are there Journaling cards? Like just white and off white 3x4 cards with lines? You can also get stamps with grids and bubbles, etc for stamping on a card for journaling. Elle’s studio has some and I’ve seen Heidi swapp ones as well. I bought a bunch of Elle’s sale 3x4 white cards with a simple week number on one side for dirt cheap and flip those over to use as white cards.

I can also stretch my stash which is nice. I'm glad you're enjoying it! Once I get rolling on pocket page layouts I have a hard time going back to full page layouts. I'm planning on adding some 9x12 layouts for bigger stories/events (like birthdays or maybe if we actually travel more than just camping). Question: are there Journaling cards? Like just white and off white 3x4 cards with lines? There are tons of different types of journaling cards, there are the traditional type with lines, some have a 1-5 list on them, etc. I've seen people make journaling cards out of all the different types of cards by just adding labels and writing on those labels. Here are some examples of journaling on non-lined cards: InkieQuillLeilani_ScrapsMy Little Journal (Heba)Hope that helps!

Has anyone attempted doing a PL for a past year? I’m returning to PL after many years and looking Back through 2021 I’d really like to document but not sure how hard it would be or if anyone has tips .

I would like to do this starting from 2014 but haven't started yet. I know there are a few YouTubers that have done this and also some people on Instagram, but unfortunately I can't think of any off the top of my head. Let me see if I can find links.

Has anyone attempted doing a PL for a past year? I’m returning to PL after many years and looking Back through 2021 I’d really like to document but not sure how hard it would be or if anyone has tips . I'm by no means a PL expert...I'm working on my first PL, going back to 2019. I created a Word document, one page for each month. I went through my calendar and transferred all my info to the Word document. I then uploaded all my phone photos to Google Photo. Then I went through all the 2019 photos, one month at a time, and added the ones I might want in my PL to a folder on my computer. When I was done with that, it was easier to choose a select few for each month. I also looked through my Word document for that month and checked to see if any photos were missing and whether I could get info on the event elsewhere (like from someone's Facebook posts). I printed the photos and added them to pocket pages in a monthly format. I now will go back to embellish and journal. I'm pretty sure I will be missing some highlights, but for now this is the best I can do. I plan to work on January 2022 pages while finishing up my 2019 PL. I'm also planning on working on 2021 and 2020 PL's at some point in time. One lesson I learned from this is that every time I get photos sent to me that I want to keep (usually of the grandkids), I should immediately download to my phone. I hope this helps!

I had a productive weekend. I did a major cleanup of my craft area, printed most of January's photos and finished up my 2021 PL. 2021 ended up being quite a thick album. My bathroom scale tells me it is almost 10lbs worth of documenting

Here's my Week 3 of 2022 - this is the first spread I've actually completed for the year (still waiting on AE stuff to get here for the other two spreads). http://instagram.com/p/CZP6h2UPZ_7 Sorry for the poor lighting - the photos looked OK in my photo library but then looked very dark when I uploaded them to Instagram

I wonder how accurate my scale is. The only reason I checked it was because as I was putting it onto my shelf I thought dang that's pretty heavy, wonder how much it weighs? Maybe I should have split it into 2 albums but try to avoid that...

Crazy how big they can get! And when I’m not doing PL my albums are bigger than these.

I impulse bought Echo Parks Day in the Life the other day and decided I want to do a 6x12 insert each month with a simple DITL. We’ll see if I remember to do it monthly like I want, but I think it will be fun for the kids to see! Todays the first one since I just realized it’s the last day of January so no more waiting!

I like that idea, boymom5. I am doing 6x12 project life and was thinking about adding some random 6x8 DITL. I remember I did a DITL type spread way back in the early 2000s before it was a thing and it’s one of my favorite layouts to look at when I look back at albums because it really paints the picture of what life was like then. I wish I had done more of them. Especially when the kids were young like they were at the time.
