jediannie I agree with PL being a general name for documenting everyday life chronologically more than an actual system or format. I don't ever use the words "Project Life" for my actual albums either, just the year. At times, I think I'd love doing it without pocket pages either (and that's likely where I'm headed). Even the years where I've done Happy Planner memory-keeping, it was still PL - super chronological, obviously, and all things of life I felt the need to record somewhere. But not Becky's brand and philosophy of PL. I feel strongly that we can appropriate the term for whatever kind of day-to-day documenting in chronological order we want. The new war in Europe is messing with my brain, not gonna lie. My SO suggested I get another planner and do what I did for the start of the pandemic (I have months of Covid-19 updates and general thoughts recorded in one and it's a pretty incredible collection of events and ideas to look back on). It was also therapeutic to jot down my own frustrations and observations on the daily. So, I'm considering expanding my PL approach and catch up on February in a planner? Not sure. Maybe it'll help with the bitterness, sadness and anger at the situation. I'm not sure but we're headed back into months of conflict and I'm not here for it. Except I'm literally here stuck in it. Aaagh.

Here's a question for you. If you have ephemera that is bigger than a 4x6 pocket, do you do a traditional scrapbook page to add to your PL? And if you do, do you still maintain the pocket page "look" or do you venture off and do your own thing? Just curious. I am not doing traditional PL pages, but using pockets for memory keeping. Anyeays I have 9x12 pages that are a single pocket of that size for more traditional layout. I used the 9x12 single pocket for the title and will be using it for a layout about dd's first time voting as I only have 2 photos and for stsrt of Jr and senior years of school. Eta: I am not traditional in any sense and I love how freeing that is. I am doing my own thing and loving it.

My accountant brain likes the linear feel of PL...LOL! Like @sunnycamom, I do my own thing. It's good to rebel against the formats and products you have, too. It's fun, liberating and ultimately your own path for your own stories and history. I definitely do NOT stick to a pocket page look. Even within pocket pages! I love a larger photo taking over several pockets, for example. I love a plain insert. I love cuttin up too large ephemera and let it flow into the corner of a pocket above and/or under. The more you play outside the lines, the more you'll learn about what you like the look of. Don't be afraid!

I use the term PL to mean pocket page memory keeping - whatever that looks like for you. For me right now it is chronological because that ‘s how I prefer to tell stories and remember things and look back. I’m not sure about the rest of the discussion about Becky’s philosophy or any of that. - I don’t really know what that is. I just prefer pocket pages now because I feel it’s easier for me to document everyday life rather than when I did 12x12 pages of the kids birthday parties and trips to the zoo etc. I like having a trip pic next to a random pic of my dog. Lol That’s life to me and how I want to remember it. I also like the pockets as mini pages rather than staring at two giant 12x12 and doing that whole thing. That seems like a lot more than I want to take on at this point in my life. 😂

I have so much cardstock and 12 x 12 protectors, buying pockets seemed silly. So I layout in pocket style, but have the flexibility to have bigger or smaller elements. i also print at home, by the week so I can determine what size and orientation of photos I want. I’m happy with how it’s working out.
2021 is only done to May, and now I am trying to do 2019, 2020 and 2022 as well. I’ll just do what I can, but having fun! So little time and so many supplies.

SnoopyFan Your opening page is gorgeous! sleepingbooty I'm so sorry for what is happening and agree, I think it will be months of conflict, if not longer. And all of that is on top of the pandemic that people are pretending is over. I'm not sure I even fully understand what all is happening and the motivations behind it but I'm scared and anxious. I'm frightened for the people of Ukraine. I feel so helpless to do anything. I like your plan to document. Maybe that would help a bit. I'm actually working on last week for my PL today. I have one week in January and then last week and I'm up to date on 2022. It's amazing what not having a job will do for your crafty time. I'm trying to enjoy the time off while I have it. It's been eye-opening not to have that everyday stress that was always in the background (and I had a job and a boss I adored). I have emotional bandwidth and the time to do things like create and exercise, but I also recognized how incredibly privileged I am not to have the pressure to immediately find another job. That I have health insurance through my husband's job so I can pause, even being pregnant, and take a break. I need to do some documenting about that once I can articulate my thoughts and feelings. I spent some time watching the Stephanie Bryan series on Youtube this morning. I love her mini albums! They are amazing. Does she still scrapbook?

I spent some time watching the Stephanie Bryan series on Youtube this morning. I love her mini albums! They are amazing. Does she still scrapbook? Unfortunately, I don't think so. She just dropped off the radar and started afresh with a photography account (she does family portraits as a pro photographer). She was a great source of inspiration to me. Loved her use of white space and relaxed approach with loads of memorabilia. I'm so glad to hear you're in a comfy position in life. Everybody aspires to that. It's good to be there and I'm happy documenting allows you to look on your situation and feel gratitude for it, enjoy it to the max. Happy pregnancy vibes, by the way. I hope everything is going well. I know this has been an arduous road for you. Take your time, make the most of your new environment and growing family. It's a chapter of sunshine and little birds chirping in the tree branches that has begun for you. 2021 is only done to May, and now I am trying to do 2019, 2020 and 2022 as well. I’ll just do what I can, but having fun! So little time and so many supplies. Congratulations! It's a lot of work but you'll get there, one page at a time. Use up ALL your pretties, unhoard your faves and get them in your books. 2021 "only" being done to May sounds like 2021 being almost half done to me! Are you attacking 2022 straight away and documenting in real time?

Thanks sleepingbooty! So far, the pregnancy is going remarkably well. I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that it continues. I'm 15 weeks today. I'm hoping when I make it to the 20 week mark I'll be able to breath easier. I almost still don't believe it. That's a bummer on Stephanie leaving scrapbooking. Her work was really lovely. Her photography was wonderful so I can see her leaning into that but it's too bad she left the hobby. There's a few folks I still miss like Peppermint and Scrappy Jedi. I'll be adding her to the list.

Eta: I am not traditional in any sense and I love how freeing that is. I am doing my own thing and loving it. That's how I've been doing my albums. I'm five years behind and I don't even care.
Me and my daughter saw Anastasia on Sunday! It took a while to come to SLC, Utah, delayed by Covid for over a year, and it was supposed to be for her 2019 High School Graduation present. Anyway, I have the playbill? pamphlet, and I took some screen shots of the theater. It's fairly new and I think cool looking! It's not often I do fun things, so I wanted to share.
We are also getting a wheelchair from Shriners for my son. Good, not good I guess since we do have a need. I decided to get it because since October he's had all kinds of issues. One of them being trauma to his knee. How that happened? I have no idea. Then he has random seizures. We are going back in May and I'll try to remember to take photos inside the hospital. They have the cutest things for kids!

I've just spent the last hour or so going through my scraps and matching papers up with photos in my 2010 album. My scraps drawer was filled to capacity and I'm kind of amazed how much space I've just created, with the added bonus that I've now got at least some patterns paired with photos for around 15 pages. I don't typically scrap this way, I'm very much a grab whatever I feel like using in the moment kind of scrapper, but I'm feeling super accomplished and am keen to start making several of the pages already.

Love your pages, jeremysgirl! Big fan of the colour coordination with your photos. Did you do all the spray work yourself? The play with the phrase sentiment stamps (popping off the colourful paper on top of photos, going up vertically against horizontal journaling) is wonderful. Your Disney park pages look so cohesive and personal. You're off to a great start with DIY-ing your own cards. I hope you had fun making these. Can't wait to see how your personal style develops and finds itself as you keep playing around with all your pretties. PS: You made me long for a return Disney trip even more now... *deep sigh*

I want to start this but it’s daunting! Help? After years of doing PL, I still remember the task at hand when I first begun. It *is* a big project and if you've never done it before or haven't in some time, it can seem unnerving. First of all, a big breath and relax. This is supposed to be fun, never forget. General guidance: 1. Settle on a calendar format that works best for you. The original PL project was mostly done weekly but you'll notice that many modern-day freestyle PL-ers tend to prefer to work monthly. It's less intimidating and usually requires less of everything: photos, journaling, time spent, etc. 2. Let your photos and things to remember guide you for your album format choice (should you go as large as possible with your pages like 12x12 or are you ok with the space offered by 9x12 if not 6x8?). Or pick whatever you like best. You shouldn't overthink this too much in my opinion. 3. Just start. Take your January photos, PL cards (or make them yourself!) and start slipping stuff inside pockets, adding journaling and see how it goes. Remember you don't have to record everything. Just whatever you wish to add. So, if you've read 4 books last month but only really liked one, how about only documenting that one book cover? You can edit whatever you want out (or in). You owe it to nobody to have it all in there. Can't wait to hear how things are going with your first pages! Keep us in the loop, ok?

sleepingbooty I really appreciate your comments and feedback. I really am enjoying the distress oxide sprays. That's how I colored the backgrounds of my cards. I've just ordered another too that I'm waiting to come in the mail. I enjoyed all the stamping as well. I've recently purchased quite a few new stamps and I think they are going to make my project life spreads really come alive. I really thank you for inspiring me.

I'm so glad your stamp purchases are turning out to be a great source of inspiration as well. Wait until you go nuts with fussy-cutting stamped sentiments on vellum paper and whatnot! It can be so therapeutic (and gorgeous).

There's a few folks I still miss like Peppermint and Scrappy Jedi. I miss them too. They were great. I want to start this but it’s daunting! Help? The advise that sleepingbooty gave is great. Choosing how you want to document is key, do you want to do a spread or two a week or do you want to do a monthly overview? Once you decide the format you want to try, then choose the photos from the week and plop them in pockets. I have been printing out almost all photos from the week and the ones I don't include in my PL spreads I will use either in my traveler's notebook or some other format. I know for me, the hardest part was editing and printing photos, once I figured out a process and stuck to it, that really helped. Here's my process if you're interested: my week is Monday-Sunday, so I go through my photos from the week prior on the Monday and edit them. I then print them out in various sizes at home (I use photoshop elements on my Mac to do major edits and use PicTapGo and PicFrame for quick phone edits.) Once I print them out, I cut them down and put them in my album. I then work on the layouts as I have time/energy adding cards/ephemera/embellishments. jeremysgirl love your cards! thanks for sharing your layout!
