I think the problem is really what some of you just described- not a lot going on, not taking many photos. Just in LIFE I’m feeling really uninspired at the moment, and I think that’s spilling over into this project (understandably). I printed my January pictures and I was actually surprised that I had as many as I did. And then I took at look at February and I was so disappointed I didn't have as many. I am a high user of Facebook though and I skimmed over my Facebook wall. I was surprised at how many posts I had for February. I'm thinking of printing some of them out and adding to my PL for February just to round things out. Any chance this might be an option for you? Unfortunately (?) I have really shyed away from posting on FB the last several years, so that’s not a good resource for me. I might have some stuff in Instagram story archive, so I can figure out how to access that and take a look. I can’t stop being tempted to move back to 12x12. 👀 I already have a couple empty albums and all the pp. I can mentally put those pages together since the format is so familiar and I keep thinking it’ll be easier. All last year I was giddy about starting 9x12 and it seemed I was seeing that size used by so many people. And now all my current PL faves - Leilani Scraps, Jenni Garcia, some others I’m not remembering this moment- they’re all 12x12’ers. I’m so wishy washy. 🤕

honeypea why did you originally want to do 9x12? Are those reasons (or any of them) still appealing? If not, I say let it go and go back to 12x12 if you want. Or try one page now in 12x12 and see if that changes anything for you. Then maybe you’d have a better idea if it’s the size or your lack of pics or just not feeling crafting right now. This is supposed to be fun (at least for me) so if it’s not fun, I’d do what it takes to make it enjoyable for me.

I do a hybrid approach. I have a 12x12 album and I just do what feels right for the month. Sometimes that's several 12x12 PL spreads, with traditional LOs to follow, sometimes it's one 9x12, and sometimes it's even less. Maybe doing what feels right at the moment will work for you. I let my photos and how much I have to say dictate my format and I really like how the variety looks in my album.

Easier to handle on a lap, less sprawl across my work table - novelty, switching it up sounded fun - I was really enjoying Ali’s 9x12 (although I just rewatched some of those flip throughs and I don’t live them as much now, then watched the older 12x12 flips and liked THOSE more) - my big goal this year is to make PL a smaller aspect of my documenting so that I could do more alternate scrappy projects. I thought downsizing the PL album was in line with this goal. But if I can whiz through 12x12 with more time efficiency, then that’s a major thing to consider. I just had no idea trimming 3” off the edge was going to trip me up so much. 🧐

I switched to 9x12 in 2021 and it took me a while to get in the grove. I was hoping it would take me less time overall too and I had noticed some weeks, especially with COVID, I just didn't have as many photos so I thought the smaller footprint would be better. Honestly, I'm not sure it takes me any less time. I'm a slow scrapper.
I did 9x12 again for this year and it's still a little bit of a struggle but easier now that I've had more practice. I do like the smaller size albums and I do either full size 9x12 layouts or I just use the design A style pockets for 9x12. That has made it easier for me this year. I don't switch sizes. If I have more 3x4 photos or journal cards, I just put 2 in the 4x6 pocket and call it a day. The one size only approach to the pockets helped a lot. I made myself a templet in photoshop (I couldn't find any pre-made for 9x12 but I'm sure they are out there) and I layout all the photos and the journaling cards I'm journaling on digitally there first so I can "see" how things are going to look. I find that helps. A lot of the time the final product will have stuff moved around, but planning it out digitally gives me a good starting place.
I had already thought of going back to 12x12 for 2023 so I have more room for photos but I'm also kicking around trying a photo book since I have a baby coming and I'm not sure how much time I'll have to physically scrap. One year, I forget which year, maybe 2019, I did 8.5x11 and while I love the album size, it didn't work for me at all. I don't like that my pictures are all small. It bugs me but I'm glad I tried out that size.
In some ways, I love the idea of several 6x8 albums for the year but I can't even imagine how many I'd end up with so I don't think that will work for me realistically but I love seeing the smaller size journals. I have small album envy. Hahaha. Right now, I end up with 2 albums per year and then a 6x8 for DD.

honeypea Maybe you could switch PL back to 12x12 and use the 9x12 as your alternate projects size?

honeypea since you want to PL to take up less space/time but you like 12x12 format, what about doing 12x12 monthly spreads (unless you are already doing that) and if you have more pics some months add another 12x12?

The albums wouldn’t be wasted. honeypea since you want to PL to take up less space/time but you like 12x12 format, what about doing 12x12 monthly spreads (unless you are already doing that) and if you have more pics some months add another 12x12? I’ve done it monthly for a couple years! Monthly works well for me most of the time. Some months end up being two pages, others 8. I really AM USUALLY flexible and go with flow in PL despite my mad ramblings the past few weeks. 😅🤣

I'd give it a shot honeypea but if it's not bringing you joy, I'd feel no guilt letting it go.

I'm still doing 12x12 monthly spreads, with the odd insert if I have more stories for that month. I love how easy it is to visualise a spread as I am so used to this size. However, I do feel like switching to 9x12 or even 6x8 simply because of the size of the albums. The 12x12 ones are really hard to store and not easy to handle at all.
This year I have been finding it hard to focus on my PL and I even forget to take photos, which is actually a common problem I have. Anyway, I am glad to say that I have completed January and am half way through February. Not so bad...

The 12x12 ones are really hard to store and not easy to handle at all. Quick question-I used a couple of PL inserts into my 12x12 regular just because I had so many photos I could not scrap them all. Am I doing something wrong where the pages are so floppy? Should I be putting cardstock between the photos? TIA!

I'm finding that pocket pages take me longer to assemble than the traditional open-ended layouts. I also moved into 9X12 for the novelty in 2020, but I'm still not comfortable with a rectangle versus a square. I still prefer the look of Creative Memories albums on my bookshelf, so I may go back to them since they now have single pocket pages that load from the top. They're just so expensive...but the ones I put together in 1997 are still holding up.

Am I doing something wrong where the pages are so floppy? Should I be putting cardstock between the photos? TIA! Some page protectors are sturdier than others, but some floppiness is normal. It’s because you have all the seems, so the pages will fold and flop along those. I notice a HUGE difference in the 9x12 because the seems are not on a perfect vertical line, each vertical seem is only 3”, then there’s an offset pocket that breaks the seem line. The result is much sturdier pages. It feels very strange after being used to the flopppy 12”x12”. Feels like my pages are made of cardboard. 😂

Yes, when I started PL in 2014 I did 12x12 and those are some floppy pages! I didn’t finish that year and then started PL this year with 12x6 because I didn’t like size - for me it just felt too big to comfortably hold and flip through. I debated 9x12 but worried it would be too big. Now I’m thinking next year I might switch to 9x12. 6x12 is a tight fit for me! But I do like the challenge of fitting things in and using flip pockets etc to expand if I really need it. Hard to figure out the “perfect” size.

I finally finished up 2021 and got January 2022 done today. February is going to be worked on tomorrow.
For January I only used what came in my SC kit and shockingly, I was able to use up a bunch of the kit.

I was at a crop last weekend and I completed January, February and half of March in my 2022 album. Also got a start on the DITL layout that I'm just adding to my PL (I really love that kit). I haven't done PL in so long I forgot how much I love it and also how tedious it is lol. The AE SBTM sub is really working for me this year. It's much better than a previous years worth that I bought. The repeating elements are good. I am discovering that I am pretty minimalistic with my PL tho. More than I realized. Pictures, journaling & cards are about all I use. Not a lot of embellishments, so about half of the kit. Haven't used any stamps.....I really want to try and stamp on every spread so I will try to go back and do that. Hoping to keep up the momentum.
ETA: This is my first time using 9x12 and doing monthly and I'm loving both.

I finished 2020 for ds and am about half way through 2020 for dd.
I am really enjoying pocket page scraping and have made a few 9x12 single pocket layouts. I like the 9x12 size because I can still make a traditional layout if I want to.
I bought some digital pocket cards and overlays for Covid and vaccines that I have enjoyed using.

I finally got the week in January I skipped done yesterday. I've got a couple of weeks left of March and then April. My picture taking has taken a nose dive so I'm wondering just exactly what I'm going to document but I'll add in some pop culture stuff like shows I'm watching etc to help fill it out. I'm still adjusting to being back in the Pacific NW and how grey and rainy everything is here. Don't even get me started on how all the houses have grey walls and grey kitchens. I am back to loathing the color grey. Everything just feels blah and I think that's been impacting my photo taking.
One thing I've noticed, not having my "stuff", is I really wish I had more pictures of my past layouts and a list of the weeks I'm missing, at least for 2021. I'd start working on the photo editing and layout placement but I can't remember which weeks are missing. Once I do have my albums back, that's going to be on my list of things thing to do. I want to keep better track, maybe do an excel spreadsheet for each year and list out the missing weeks to see the gaps in my albums.
I'm also thinking again about what I actually use in terms of product & style. I recently bought most of Traci Reed's line from Echo Park. I really like supporting her and love that she's a designer who actually scrapbooks and I like her stuff. The line is adorable, but I'm struggling to actually use the products. I think they just aren't "me" or maybe I'm just in a bit of a funk.

Sharing the translated digi stamps re: Ukraine invasion I designed for my PL for those who document current events and may want a more custom sentiment for their photos and journaling. You can download the digi stamps here (transparent background, .PNG format). Thank you sleepingbooty - not a PL-er but I can see adding those to my documentation (and I'm sadly behind - might need to do a March recap)

Thank you sleepingbooty - not a PL-er but I can see adding those to my documentation (and I'm sadly behind - might need to do a March recap) My pleasure. It's a weird time to be alive and document through but this is our world now. I finally got the week in January I skipped done yesterday. I've got a couple of weeks left of March and then April. I am with you on the "hate grey" stance. I can't believe the trend is still alive. It rose sometime in 2016-2017 and I laughed, thinking it would never last as it's the most depressing of the sterile colours. Boy, was I wrong! I've had to talk several friends and acquaintances out of changing their floors for the grey-ish wood slats or painting their living room grey. Beige has never felt more comforting! Have you considered joining a spring photography challenge to get your creative juices behind the camera flowing going? Also I wanted to add that doing my PL has made me want to create a separate 6x8 story album for longer stories. Something that I've resisted for awhile but now I see the need. 6x8 is really a great format for stories/memories that deserve more than a 3x4 and just a few words! I highly recommend giving it a try.

My PL is in limbo, sort of. It's more a shift in format for now: I've picked memory-planning back up and have been very good at writing at least one thing down daily. Forget December Daily, it's 2022 daily for me right now. I know the format is not sustainable year upon year for me as I've done it in the past but it feels like it was the right decision after the war broke out in Eastern Europe. I've punched some 6x8 page protectors to add to my monthly recap page so I can slip the photos in my Happy Planner for now until I get back to my actual PL album. Glad to have everything, words and photos, in one place already. It should make the actual album easy to make. Still undecided on 6x8 vs 9x12. Oh well.

I'm so glad to be hearing it's finally on its way out. You are a good friend to talk people out of using it. I loathe it more with each passing day. I swear it's in every house I am seeing. That's a great suggestion on the photo challenge. Thank you!

I've been stalled on my PL albums lately, mostly due to a lack of time, so tonight I sat down with my 2010 album and put 4 months of already printed photos into order and slipped them into 12x12 pockets a week at a time, and then printed one more month and did the same. When I come to scrap these photos I'll work out what pocket configurations I need. I've now only got one month of photos to print for my 2010 album, so I'm feeling super accomplished right now.

Add me to the stalled list! I haven touched my PL album since February. Between moving adult kids, swapping some rooms around in my house and starting a new job things have been crazy to say the least. I plan on ordering a bunch of photos this weekend so I can catch up this month hopefully!
