I've really liked the IMP classes. I haven't done all of them, but the ones I've done, I really like. This year is collaboration with a few other teachers so I'm looking forward to it. I also love that she pays her teachers, designers, and design team (much like Shimelle) for their work.

Well geez! Thanks sleepingbooty I just bought $100 worth of citrus twist stamps. Ha! My bad. Glad you found your fix! Time to get the ink pads out and start working on your DIY PL cards...

I've missed you ladies! It felt good to get started on 2022. To turn the page so to speak. I'm so behind on 2021, I've decided to just let it go for now. We're still temp housing, so I have a tiny, tiny bit of supplies but did place an order to 9x12 albums and pocket pages from Scrapbook.com and I've leaned harder on the digital since that's what I can easily access right now. I plan to continue mixing in different sizes and full 9x12 layouts along with my OLW stuff. I keep everything together in one album but it's funny, the smaller size has been calling to me lately. I hate that I have more ideas than time. Sigh. sleepingbooty Love, love your cards! & totally love the idea to do DIL on your birthday. I am going to visit a IRL scrapbook store today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can pickup a couple of things to add to my tiny temporary stash. I miss my stuff so much. It's been an interesting exercise to notice what I'm missing the most (my good cutter, die cutting machine, punches, tiny word stickers, and I was surprised to find washi tape at the top of my list).

Happy New Year, scrappyem ! I'm sorry to read you're still struggling in temporary housing. Hoping you find a happy resolution and your beloved stash faves that are missing soon. How are you liking your new home region? Are you finding your marks? I wish you a lovely trip at the LSS today... Report back on your scrappy purchases, 'k?

I have never bought a class from her but I know she has very specific cadence, speech patterns and slow work speed in her older (free) YT PL videos that got on my nerves after a while. I'd recommend you sit and try to scrap along with some of her YT PL videos to get a good idea of the kind of instructor she'd be for a paying class. Some people absolutely love her sing-songy, soft demeanour. You could be one of them. Thanks for sharing experiences of IMP and Theresa's style - sleepingbooty, this is great advice! (Why didn't I think to do this...I am so very easily irritated by such things!) It's good to get a range of opinion: jediannie and scrappyem I really appreciate your input and will spend tomorrow investigating a bit more. Whilst the $20 isn't a fortune, I'd rather spend it on materials than a class I don't find useful/inspiring. Thanks too for the headsup on the Pinkfresh Life Right Now collection. Something else to explore! I completed 2021 today, so feel ready to get going for sure, especially when I read so many great ideas here. You are all so generous!!

Sorry to be late to the party! Four creators who regularly post PL spreads in varying styles on YouTube (and for free) that I have enjoyed/ have inspired me in 2021 are: My little journal (heba) who is awesome for stamp usage and how to use different releases (even when she uses TN style documenting and journals I still get ideas from how she uses her stamps/stickers etc) Krystal idunate (great for how to use up those weird embellishments you have sitting around from AE kits you refuse to throw out and structuring things to look cohesive) Dearly dee (on citrus twist design team so uses heaps of their product for inspiration, great with stamping and embellishment clusters) Leilani scraps (she has a real bright, pop art, never too many stickers kind of 90’s style, does a few travel albums too. Unique style, but I kinda like it even if my album will never be like hers!)

There really is quite a lot of free material out there on YT, including very recent PL spreads. How are you liking your new home region? Are you finding your marks? I wish you a lovely trip at the LSS today... Report back on your scrappy purchases, 'k? Happy New Year! I'm feeling mixed about being back in the Seattle area. I think (hope) 90% of my "meh-ness" is related to our housing struggles so hopefully in a few months that will get better. I'd really like to astral project myself 6 months in the future, when surely we will have found something and not still be living in a hotel. The scrapbooking store had some great mixed media products but the actual scrappy selection was pretty dated and had a lot of shabby chic/vintage style products, that while I think they are pretty, isn't what I use at all. I was disappointed I didn't find more. I did manage to buy a few packets of enamel dots from Hero Arts and a little storage box so I didn't leave completely empty handed, which was nice. I'm not sure I'd make the trek back there though (it was about 30 minutes from downtown Seattle), which is a bummer. I'd rather buy local if I can.

Does anyone happen to know what that sticker paper she uses for journaling is? That is my one complaint about a lot of YouTubers. They don't list what they use, and if they've been around even a little bit they should know that's the main question people ask. That being said, Heba uses Avery Full Sheet Printable Shipping Labels (Matte Clear) and she got the tip from someone else to use clear sticker paper for journaling. I'm assuming this is what you're looking for without having watched the video myself yet? I haven't bought any yet because I have some clear sticker paper here that I want to try first.

scrappyem Oh crap, that's a shame about the scrapbook store. It does seem like a lot of the US market has also shifted online for the new, trendy stuff, even more so with the pandemic. But hey, you tried to find something new local! And you did get some enamel dots out of it... Silver linings, right? I can imagine hotel life is wearing you thin and casting a grey veil over the way you're experiencing everyday life right now. Here's to 2022 bringing you the perfect home where you can settle and finally start enjoying being settled and the Seattle area! Imagine when summer comes around and you can leave your new home to go explore local ice cream parlours, venture into parks and local nature, find a few hidden restaurants for date nights, etc. It's just getting to that point that is difficult right now. Hugs! Hang in there...

How does everyone go about their journaling? I love the look of a lot of words in a layout but I feel uncomfortable with my writing. My longer stories are not well written and I tend to ramble so I usually stick to two or three lines of fact based things.
Also, do you handwrite? Print from your computer? Use a typewriter?

My longer stories are not well written and I tend to ramble so I usually stick to two or three lines of fact based things. What makes you say your longer stories are not well written? If it's just about "rambling", either consider leaving it in, especially if you're happy reading those "rambles" about your memories later on when you revisit them or take the time to write it out all out, let a few hours or night pass, re-read it and edit yourself. You shouldn't be confining yourself to basic facts if you want to write more! Have you ever considered writing exercises to help you focus on the story you're telling? Are there any scrapbookers whose writing you like to help you grow confidence in your own capabilities? Brandi Kincaid's newsletters are always very beautifully written and has shared her scrappy writing very candidly in the past, including on IG (although she is doing less of that these days). She did a DD a few years ago in which every entry was a letter addressed to someone/something. Also, do you handwrite? Print from your computer? Use a typewriter? I used to use my typewriter a lot. I'm now primarily typing out on my computer. I have my set favourite font that I keep gravitating back to. It's like a routine that I developed over the years. I break awa sometimes but I tend to return to my good ol' Caslon Pro italic.

Thanks sleepingbooty! Your kind words me a lot and I bet you're right, by summer should be tons of fun things to explore and little gems to find. jediannie thanks for the reminder on the clear sticker paper. I saw the video where Heba made that recommendation and then completely forgot. I wonder if I can find that on Amazon. I think it would be fun to play with!

Thank you so much. I was reading reviews for brands and people having complaints about things so it’s good to know what works for the type of project I want to use! She had had these extra page protector flip pockets for the PL pockets. Do you happen to know about those?

Either the flip flaps from Close to My Heart or Simple Stories - they're very similar although I think the CTMH ones are a bit more expensive. Here's the Close to My Heart flip flaps (this is my CTMH lady but you can get them from any consultant) or here are the Simple Stories ones: Photo Flips

I haven't made a start yet. All of my layouts so far this year have been for the Month of Challenges at The Lilypad, plus Sketchy Saturday here. I want to try and complete all 31 layouts for MOC, so I might have to put PL on hold until February.

Something that has worked well for me is a hybrid approach. For big blocks of text, I type the journaling and print directly on 3x4 and 4x6 journal cards. But for labels sprinkled throughout the pockets, I use my own handwriting. I like that it adds a personal touch without being overwhelmingly handwriting. I just don't love my handwriting that much.

For text/journaling I have a font I use in my old creative memories photo editing software/program (like photoshop but more basic), I then batch print out the journaling as a photo and chop up to include on my pages as I can get 2 3x4 blocks per printed photo etc. My understanding is that heba etc got the idea for the sticker paper from shun wen (was on dd design team for AE this year) from choux puff creations (YouTube, Insta etc) if you want to look at a how to video, including links to where she buys etc she has a YouTube video on what she uses, how she uses it, how to print on it etc. my one concern with the sticker paper is whether it will yellow over time or lose its stick… let me know peas, let know 😁 And my one issue with the pocket flips is that they only flip the one way, and for some reason it’s never the orientation/way I want them to flip! I have some in my stash though 🙃

I do this as well, larger blocks of text I do on my computer and use my handwriting on small labels and such. Sometimes I'll write out my journaling if I don't have access to my computer (like back in the day when I'd go to crops) but I try to do most of the longer journaling on my computer. I have a template I created on my computer in Word where I have a 3x4 card or a 4x6 card drawn out and type in that text block if that makes sense.

sleepingbooty I like the idea of writing exercises to try to make me feel more confident in my story telling. That would be a really good goal for 2022. If the albums were just for me I probably wouldn't think so hard about it, but I get self conscious about other readers that look through them. Thank you for linking those videos - I really like Brandi and for some reason didn't realize she had Youtube videos out there! I'll definitely be watching them when I get a chunk of time tomorrow

Thank you for linking those videos - I really like Brandi and for some reason didn't realize she had Youtube videos out there! I'll definitely be watching them when I get a chunk of time tomorrow I know a few youtubers read their journaling at the end of their process videos. Krystal idunate and tashi (or is it tazhi?)her friend (has been quiet on YouTube for a while but did a few dd spreads this year where she read her journaling) do long blocks of journaling that they read so you can get some ideas… copying is the highest form of flattery, right? Maybe that would give you some ideas on what they write about and how they write? Best thing is their process videos are free and have a wide range of styles and themes so you’d probably find a page or two that have the same theme as you want to write about 😁 and there are years worth of content already uploaded for you to watch when you want. I know they both tend to leave it to the end to read the journaling so you can just fast forward to that part if you are not interested in the process (or vice versa!) )

I can get pretty wordy sometimes so typing is a better solution for me because I can edit my journaling until it better fits the space but still includes all the things I want. And while I don't hate my handwriting, sometimes I think typed looks better with my page design.

I haven't started my album for this year, although I have been taking notes for when I'm ready. I have made a start on my 2010 album though, taking the photos and notes I already had for Jan and Feb and putting them into page protectors and adding some PL cards, and today I started pulling papers for some of the bigger pockets/12x12 pages.

I don't mind my handwriting but I never seem to get it spot on first time. thanks for clear sticker paper recommendations too. I'm using some cheap white, slightly shiny paper which I don't love. I think I might have to invest in something better! Re flip flaps, I make my own using whatever page protectors I happen to have around - usually the cheaper standard office brands rather than the PL "special" type. I cut them down to whatever size I need and make a hinged edge on the side I want and finish the edges using my ....can't remember what it's called (that thing that needs to be switched on for seems like several days to get up to a hot enough temperature to seal edges)....or more usually my sewing machine. (Good grief, at last I have some experience to share - I've been a taker far more than a giver these last few days!!)
