Question: Has anyone done a DITL insert in their PL for their birthday? I'm considering it this year, just not sure if it's worth it, especially during a pandemic. I'm a winter baby so the Covid-19 mess and Omicron madness will definitely not have calmed down by then. It'll probably be a day of staying at home, mostly. Still, I'm tempted for some reason (maybe to keep myself busy on another "lame" birthday?). Thoughts? Experiences? Not my birthday but I did this DITL http://instagram.com/p/CVc3W9PlRYZ Adding, I do a monthly day in the life as a photography exercise. Some days are really boring but I’m glad I take time to play and try to capture the boring in more ways. Like this one I tried to capture what I’m thankful for. Some days I try to just capture small details. You could capture someone’s perspective on the day like your spouse. I have thought about doing day in the life through my drinks like taking photos of my coffee cups and water cups in the environment I’m in.

So I think I’ve finally settled on doing PL for the year again. Was so backs and forth, but after looking through my 2021 album and seeing all the daily memories I know I wouldn’t include them in a traditional album. I’ll probably do our school album as a traditional 12x12 to get my full page LO cravings fix!
I’m loving all the ideas here. I never thought of doing an opening page for PL for some reason and I really like the idea of DITL once a month. I think my kids would love to see that in years to come, since it would mainly be their crazy lives!
Now I just need to start…and finish up my 2021 album. So close! I’m on week 48. I think today will be a shorter day of school so I can get some crafty time in. So thankful ODS has already started his work.

My winter birthday is also ruined again by f-ing covid (I turned 50 last year and didn't get to do my big trip I wanted or even go out for dinner and this year doesn't look any better ). Pity party aside, I probably won't add an additional layout in my album unless we actually do something exciting (which I know we won't but hope springs eternal). Maybe in a "normal" year I'd do this but nothing is normal anymore so who knows.

I haven't started yet since I've been hyper focused on catching up my 2021 book. I figured out a helpful personal challenge to get through it and use up my stash, which is a huge goal this year.
Every layout MUST have stamping, a sticker, a die cut, and an alpha word. This forces me to use stamps that maybe haven't been used lately and use up all the alphas from Kelly Purkey that I've hoarded over the years. I also have tons of die cuts from Feed Your Craft, Citrus Twist, and lots of other miscellaneous kits.

What design team are you on? I'm always looking for Project Life inspiration. Sorry for the delay. I wasn't sure I could say anything back in mid-December. Elle's Studio! I'll be using the monthly kits for Project Life as well as some traditional layouts.

Every layout MUST have stamping, a sticker, a die cut, and an alpha word. This is a brilliant idea. This last year I got in the habit of pulling out one or two stamp sets every month and trying to use them as often as I could on my pl spreads, which worked really well because I didn't have a lot of choices so it was easy to see what would work on each spread. This kind of makes me want to pull out a small group of supplies, like one alpha and a handful of stickers or die cuts to focus on using up each month.

I'm gradually getting my brain into gear and having cleared the decks of JYC it's time to think Project Life. I plan on a week per double spread again - stuck in that Design A routine here - but I'm going to try to style it up a bit and love the idea of including a stamp, a die cut etc on each spread.
My first thought when I read of that Simple Stories collection was to get hold of that and use it as a framework. But you know, that style just isn't me. I'm not fond of the design and would prefer something cleaner, less kooky. Any suggestions, anyone? I got the Lilypad email this morning and will look there for a cohesive theme that I like, but maybe I'm missing something somewhere - KP (PP) maybe? It'd have to be digital in that case but I'm happy to print at home. The challenge of the next couple of days is to find something I can stick with and get going!
Thanks for sharing ideas so generously and for being an incredible source of encouragement. I know that here, I'm amongst people who "get it"!

I just wondered if anyone has worked with her or the others in the group previously and what you reckon? I paid for the In my pocket travel class and I've only listened to one video so far and I'm not getting anything new or revolutionary yet. I know lots of people like her stuff so maybe I'm just not far enough in.

I have never bought a class from her but I know she has very specific cadence, speech patterns and slow work speed in her older (free) YT PL videos that got on my nerves after a while. I'd recommend you sit and try to scrap along with some of her YT PL videos to get a good idea of the kind of instructor she'd be for a paying class. Some people absolutely love her sing-songy, soft demeanour. You could be one of them.

Thanks for the beautiful project shares, ecvnj58 scrappieannie. So cute! (And I'm yet to use that AE hour roller stamp...) I'm still tempted to do a BDITL insert. I'll see how I feel on my actual birthday... It would be cool even if it's only a walk in the neighbourhood, video games and Skype/Zoom celebrations. I've been working on my first 2022 PL cards. Haven't printed any photos out yet as I'm running out of dye ink cartridges/photo paper for my Selphy and the price has skyrocketed where I live (30% more expensive than last year, ouch). So, I'll probably order a small batch of pictures from the printer next month or so. I'm just keeping track of where each photo goes and doing PL cards already. Not ideal, I know, but at least it's done that way. Stamps, KP alpha stickers and tiny phrase stickers 4eva!

I was new to PL in 2021 and I subscribed to Hip Kit and almost exclusively used their kits in my monthly project life. I enjoyed the look and product of the kits, however I found them to be too seasonal. Like for example Easter is only one day in March and I don't need a whole month of bunnies. So I cancelled my sub for 2022.
Now I'm left wondering what to do. I looked at Studio Calico and I'm not sure that kit is right for me. I've looked at Elle's Studio and I think that might be a way to go. However the post on this board yesterday with the new releases...well I enjoyed a lot of the new releases. I could see myself using them and most of them have a 6x8 paper pad. So I'm wondering how many of you use kits? And how many of you use traditional supplies and just create your own pocket cards and journal cards?
Ultimately I enjoyed the ease of PL. I accomplished my mission of getting stories told and pictures out there. So it lended itself well to a kit. With that said, I just am feeling like there are so many good products out there and maybe I'm boxing myself in with a kit.
Anyone want to weigh in?

So I'm wondering how many of you use kits? And how many of you use traditional supplies and just create your own pocket cards and journal cards? I've been doing PL since 2012 and have swapped between kits or pulling from stash (I breakdown my kits after a month has passed and file bits and pieces away to be used separately). Kits usually help the process go faster, for me, but when Kit Clubs (I'm looking at you SC) started putting random crap together, it was definitely a challenge. I don't mind using seasonal stuff for that month (your example for Easter), but I also had younger kids so that wouldn't be too far off the usual around here or the build up to the holiday. Right now I sub only to Paper Person, but as much as I enjoy KP, I feel like she's winding down PP again as travel opens back up and so there's less sneaks, no "Creative Team" posts, no customer service (based on feedback on the PP thread). She's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but she always had more adult type themes and snark. All that to say that I'm still subbing to PP, but I'm definitely pulling from my stash to create my PL spreads.

With that said, I just am feeling like there are so many good products out there and maybe I'm boxing myself in with a kit. Anyone want to weigh in? I feel like you're where I was at when I started PL years ago (which is how I got into scrapbooking). I remember there being confusion, trying out kits, not really knowing what I needed or what I wanted. It took a few years to get to know my PL identity better. And every PLer's identity is different so my advice here is only based on my own experience and how I can extrapolate from that to help you figure your PL vibe out. 1. I would start by having an honest look at my stash and which products I like for PL (so far in your journey anyway, things may change as you settle into your groove). Do you need more alpha stickers, die-cuts, puffy stickers? Do you need more stamps? If so, are you requiring more sentiment/word stamps or icons? Are there everyday themes you struggle to document because of lack of product? How's your card stash? 2. Is there an aesthetic in particular you like? Colour schemes, overall design? Do you enjoy filler cards that don't require any journaling, minimal embellishing? Are you already tired with some generic sentiments? 3. Do a soft declutter if you haven't yet BUT don't get rid of your unwanted just yet. Set aside the products, especially cards since PL kits are built around the cards, you just don't see yourself using. Can you come to some conclusions about what your PL identity is not through these unwanted? This will be a great help in deciding whether a one-off kit or sub is good for you or not (focus on everything in the kit you don't eventually see yourself using instead of only looking at what does attract your eye). @sleepybooty I love the way you've done those cards. So pretty they are. Do you like working from scratch and creating your own cards? See my post above, but I see your cards as so imaginative. Thank you. I definitely lean towards making from scratch-ish. I like my stamp collection and have carefully curated it over the years. I also enjoy having some of my mother tongue in there at times which means working digitally on my end rather than relying exclusively on English language products. I love buying a set of cards that will allow for a lot of freestyle creation rather than buying a kit, especially with the amount of stamps and alpha + phrase stickers I have. One of my little tricks is to look out for extra card sets either from Studio Calico or from AE. Above, I've used cut down 3x8 cards from a set Paislee Press did for DD 2020 as well as some older Studio Calico cards I bought as journal card sets, not full kits. My days of subscribing or buying one-off full kits are mostly gone (for now anyway). Alas for you, you step into the PL game after Studio Calico offered $5 kits. The board went wild for a while there with those kit codes... Heck, even Ali Edwards had the occasional $5 kit code.

dawnnikol I don't think Paper Person is for me. It seems to be missing the details. Die cuts, stickers, that sort of thing. But with that said, how do you shop your stash? Do you tend to more theme products? I am thinking that's part of my problem. With project life I feel like there's so much every day sort of photos that themes just don't seem to work for me anymore. With that said, they absolutely did when my children were younger.

I've been looking back at old albums and when it comes down to it, patterned paper with a cut out piece of white cardstock or labels for journaling and stamped cards are my favorites. Along with picking up puffy stickers and chipboard pieces here and there I think I'd be very happy with that.

With project life I feel like there's so much every day sort of photos that themes just don't seem to work for me anymore. With that said, they absolutely did when my children were younger. I've built up a stash (again, especially stamp sets) with everyday themes like food, meals, watching/binge-watching, listening to, home life, routines, city life, etc. However, not all designers offer much with these thematics and I can see how could that be unsettling if you don't know where to search. Ironically, Paper Person/Kelly Purkey is one of the biggest references in the game for this (which obviously wouldn't work if you don't like her aesthetic). Did you see the new Pinkfresh collection very likely co-designed by Geralyn Sy from In a Creative Bubble called Life Right Now? It has some great everyday sentiments, icons and themes that could work great for PL. Here are some of the embellishments:

Thank you for taking the time to put all these questions together. Things I enjoy using are stickers, diecuts, and word sentiments. I don't have much in the way of stamps. Not many inks and such, but I could totally see myself going more in that direction. Everyday themes I am lacking have to do with cooking/baking. I love to cook and bake and I'm looking to document more of my recipes. Any types of food stamps anyone knows of, I'd appreciate links to. I don't have a big card stash, but I definitely need to sort through them and make peace (recycle) with the ones I'm never going to use. 2. Is there an aesthetic in particular you like? Colour schemes, overall design? Do you enjoy filler cards that don't require any journaling, minimal embellishing? Are you already tired with some generic sentiments? I primarily like bright colors. I'm drawn to summer type colors but one of the things I like so much about Hip Kit is that they often balance them with black and white. The color schemes with Hip Kit are one of the reasons I subscribed in the first place. One thing I wish I had is a lined stamp. I don't use a whole lot of printed cards. I more prefer journal cards. I have the Becky Higgins lined cards but they are so plain and rounded corners. Which isn't my preference. I wish I could just stamp lines. If anyone knows where I could get a 3x4 and 4x6 lined stamp like this, let me know. I don't mind generic sentiments really and I use them often. I have a total thing for word sentiments and I feel I don't have nearly enough of them. This is a good suggestion too. I'm going to finish out my 2021 PL the same way I have been going. Then I'm going to declutter and see what I didn't end up using. I will go through my book and see if I can come up with a list of what I did use and what really spoke to me. I'm not interested in digital supplies either and I got rid of my Scan-n-Cut because I just wasn't using it. I could use hearts, stars, butterflies, flowers all day long in my books. I think that's part of the appeal with Elle's Studio, but my hesitation is that she uses a lot of primary colors and I definitely trend toward summer brights. Anyway, thank you for all the questions. This really gives me something to think about.

I was just so impressed with some of those new releases in the AC thread. I could see myself using like three of the paper lines linked. And I was so tempted yesterday to order. But this changeover from traditional scrapbooking has got me a little hesitant. And I will also admit that I like the ease of a kit too. There is something to be said for being able to just grab one and work from it. Even with traditional scrapbooking, I always put my products into a kit. I do better with limitation.

Last year was my first official year doing PL although I’ve done some for projects in the past. I have enjoyed Elle’s Studio sub mainly because it’s simple and I can easily add from my stash without competing with those cards. Other times just use the sub. I’ve also enjoyed that they all coordinate. With a lower price point I feel ok about adding in extras too

One thing I wish I had is a lined stamp. I don't use a whole lot of printed cards. I more prefer journal cards. Let's put out an APB for you! I'm going to link you to a cheap AliExpress 4x6 basic lined stamp (acrylic, not photopolymer) just to get this started. I'm sure other people will remember lined stamp sets currently on the market better than I do ('cause I don't ). I know people on the board have been discussing the storyteller boxes from Heidi Swapp's Inked stamp set but that's not exactly what you're after. Everyday themes I am lacking have to do with cooking/baking. I love to cook and bake and I'm looking to document more of my recipes. Any types of food stamps anyone knows of, I'd appreciate links to. Eep, not me immediately thinking of ALL the cooking and baking stamp sets Kelly Purkey has released over the years... Citrus Twist currently has a few in their shop: 6x8 Food Love, 4x6 Food Stories, 4x6 Delish. Studio Calico has 4x6 Local Eats by IACB, 4x6 Currently Baking by Rachel Swanson. I don't doubt other PL Peas will be able to add to the list! Whatever you do, don't forget that it took most of us years to build up the stash. Don't compare yourself to a PL-er who has been at it for a long time. The fun is in the crafting itself, the memories stored and suddenly finding out a designer has just put out a set of die-cuts or stamps that is perfectly suited to your everyday documenting!

But with that said, how do you shop your stash? Do you tend to more theme products? I am thinking that's part of my problem. With project life I feel like there's so much every day sort of photos that themes just don't seem to work for me anymore. With that said, they absolutely did when my children were younger. I see Booty has beat me to the punch! My stash is a few old SC cardboard storage boxes with their tops open with my 3x4s side by side or 4x6 standing up and then a dresser drawer with the 12x12s or other paper pad types. I have always been a heavy stamper, so my stash is well rounded. Although, I've really found I also like the ability to just use the digital stamp(s) on my photos and then print and put in pockets, too. Pre-PL kits, or at least PL kits from BH that I liked, I would use a SB line and cut it up and embellish that way. With all my stuff stored differently, I place my pics and then go from there with colors / cards from my stash and embellish from there. My PL albums (12x12) used to be CHUNKY! I mean, it would take me 4 albums for the year. (I can hear Booty's minimalist heart galloping.) I also had kids who weren't in school, so it's evolved into only one 12x12 album for the year. I know some PLers and SBers tend to only want certain colors, but mine is a very eclectic mix. One day I'll use the florals like crazy and the next will be B&W with no embellishments. I definitely think stamps are a "must". Even just starting out with basics like Booty has posted with a black Staz-on ink can go far, IMO. And, definitely what Miss Booty said here "Whatever you do, don't forget that it took most of us years to build up the stash. Don't compare yourself to a PL-er who has been at it for a long time. The fun is in the crafting itself, the memories stored and suddenly finding out a designer has just put out a set of die-cuts or stamps that is perfectly suited to your everyday documenting!"
