For those doing monthly how many pages do you average per month? How do you choose which stories to tell? I’m going to do monthly this year. I’m also going to attempt to go back and do a few years I haven’t done. I want to do them monthly but I’m looking back at the photos and feeling overwhelmed. I’m thinking maybe I should just set a maximum…..4-5 stories per month. I need some framework I think. I do monthly, and I try to stick to one spread per month (12x12, Design A). If the month is especially full, I may add a 6x12 insert (Design H). And for a vacations, I'll do an extra spread. So, if I traveled in January, I'd do one spread for January everyday life and one spread for the trip. It can be hard to narrow down sometimes, but for me, less is truly more. I don't want to be overwhelmed by a million albums. So I have to be choosy.

So I deciding if I want to start a PL sub this year. With my AE order being lost I'm having to rethink my plan for PL. I guess my only options are Elle's Studio, SC, AE, CD and Hip Kit Club? Am I missing any? Paper Person has a monthly sub. I know all the ones you mentioned except CD… and now google wants me to join a CD/music subscription. Lol Cocoa Daisy?

So thanks to all for convincing me to continue with PL. I am 99% sure I will. How does everyone store their PL things? Both as they are using a kit and stash? I always find mine to be a mess so what I’m doing right now isn’t working!

Right now I have everything grouped by kits and that is not working for me. At the very least, I need something at least 4" wide to store cards. I can group stickers with my stickers and diecuts with my diecuts. But my cards need something special going forward. And sleepingbooty while I was away on vacation all my Citrus Twist stamps came and OMG! I love them. I definitely chose well. Now I just need some more Distress Oxides. I currently only have 5. But I can see me needing more.

I know that my approach to PL is really solidified and anchored by having a core stamp stash that I can easily reach for and cover my everyday documenting needs with. Soothes my scrappy soul and gets the stories out and told.

I don't get any kits so I don't know if this will work for you, but I have been storing my cards sorted in a CTMH organizer. I have them grouped by category (seasons/quotes/family/journal/title/etc). You can remove the dividers to get 4 by 6 cards in too. thecraftypickle.com/2013/02/12/project-life-storage-discovery/arnpriorscrapper.blogspot.com/2013/02/project-life-organization.html

Well, I've printed the first 2 weeks of photos but have yet to get them scrapped. I don't know why I'm having such a mental block trying to get these 2 weeks done! I just look at the photos and move them around and I just can't commit to the layout. I'm walking away from it until Saturday because I'm just making myself frustrated.

I'm really hoping this weekend I can get to October and November 2021. If I can get those two months done, then I will be caught up.
Also, this morning I ordered two of those storage boxes on Scrapbook.com for my cards. I'm looking forward to taking apart the remnants of my monthly kits from last year and organizing things better. I am debating going to Michaels and getting another metal cart. I just find that thing so handy. I'm trying hard to get stuff better organized since starting project life.
I also ordered three Distress Oxide sprays this morning. I am thinking I want to be able to make more of my own project life cards and those seem like they could be fun to color my own cut cards and then use some of my new stamps to do some stamping. I am still on the lookout for a lined stamp, if anyone knows where I might find one. I like to handwrite my journaling but without lines, I always feel like I'm going off kilter. LOL! At this point, I am drawing them on with a pen and ruler. A stamp would be so much easier.

For those documenting 2022 already (or taking notes):
1. As we are now 2/3 into January, what are your main stories/focuses for PL this month so far?
2. Anything you still want to include? Anything you still need to photograph for January?
3. Are you doing a recap page this month? What's going into your recap page? TV series, movies, music? Small details of life?
4. What's your main obstacle to documenting January right now? Struggling with journaling, photography, card selection, including other POV?

She shows how she uses them here.

Thank you burnbright. Unfortunately I got rid of my Scan and Cut because I never used the damn thing. It was driving me insane that I was wasting it. So I sold it. I'm just old school, I guess.

What's your main obstacle to documenting January right now? Struggling with journaling, photography, card selection, including other POV? 1 & 2 - oh goodness, I’m not that intentional with my PL. it is literally a photo dump at the end of the month. I take lots of screen shots of texts, memes, calendar things so I remember to include them. I don’t ever photograph things to tell a story like I would for December Daily or PL if that makes sense. I print a months photos at the beginning of the next month. January isn’t on my radar at the moment 3. I include all the political memes I’ve saved each month. Sometimes it’s a handful, sometimes is a page. My country is so ugly and messed up right now I need to record the bullshit. I also include books read or if we start a new TV show. 4. We have been in Covid protocol since January 6, kids have been in virtual learning since the 12th. I have precious few photos. That said there is plenty for me to record…new couch (took 15 months), new job, son’s first girlfriend, covid (always goddamn Covid), oldest had wisdom teeth removed. Also, for the first time in 3 years I don’t have a monthly kit. Relying on existing stash has be a bit worried.

Well, I am jumping back into PL after over a decade of not doing it, so I am probably going to do well for January, like the gym, and then taper off... 1. My DD's birthday (19) is week one, so that was a big one. I am trying to include pics for each week that cover the daily stuff and the events. 2. I have zero pics of me, OK, maybe one, so I need to get in at least 1 more. 3. I have not even though about this idea, but I like it. Not sure - may see what others do and go from there. 4. Figuring out how much writing/journaling I want/realistically will get done.

I'm doing monthly and I'll focus on January's documenting at the beginning of February. I've printed out a handful of photos that I know I want to include but not really working on it yet.
I still have a few pages to finish in 2021 so that's been keeping me busy for now.

Oh I love these questions and I hope they will help me be more intentional with my memory keeping! I don't have answers to them, but I'm going to write them down and then share. I guess #4 I can answer now and that is lack of focus...too many things on my plate right now. My ADHD is kicking in full gear!

1. As we are now 2/3 into January, what are your main stories/focuses for PL this month so far? I don't do a story focus in my PL, it's usually the random bits of the everyday that don't warrant a fully layout.
2. Anything you still want to include? Anything you still need to photograph for January? Nothing so far!
3. Are you doing a recap page this month? What's going into your recap page? TV series, movies, music? Small details of life? I don't do a recap, but this sounds like a good idea. I usually add what we're watching, listening to, etc in my weekly layouts.
4. What's your main obstacle to documenting January right now? Struggling with journaling, photography, card selection, including other POV? I'm having some sort of mental block trying to get the first 2 weeks done for some reason. I have the photos printed but beyond that I can't do the layouts.

Alright so I got my supplies in for pocket style scrapbook memory keeping.
BIG questions - do you all do a title page or do you just start the album with the pockets?
Mine is event based per kid, so not daily, weekly, or monthly.

And is there a brand of TRUE 4x6 and 3x4 pocket pages? Because mine from Scrapbook.com (their brand) are bigger than both. Quite annoying.

Thank you burnbright. Unfortunately I got rid of my Scan and Cut because I never used the damn thing. It was driving me insane that I was wasting it. So I sold it. I'm just old school, I guess. Maybe someone in this thread can cut these for you and mail them if you think these could be useful? I include all the political memes I’ve saved each month. Sometimes it’s a handful, sometimes is a page. My country is so ugly and messed up right now I need to record the bullshit. I also include books read or if we start a new TV show. Great reminder that I have a couple of current news illustrations from artists on IG that I've been meaning to add to my PL! Thank you. And yep, these are crazy times all around the world. My country's presidential election takes place this spring and oy vey, it ain't pretty... Hoping the situation gets better soon and you can go back to "normal" pandemic life soon! Congrats on the new couch finally making its way to you. 15 months is quite the wait! Totally worthy of a spot in your PL. Also, for the first time in 3 years I don’t have a monthly kit. Relying on existing stash has be a bit worried. Just wanted to make sure you'd seen the $10 sub offer at SC. If you take a M2M commitment and cancel in time or skip the next month if you couldn't cancel within their timeframe (and then cancel, teehee), that's a month of PL stuff on the cheap. It's not a great kit but I think it's ok for that price tag. I have zero pics of me, OK, maybe one, so I need to get in at least 1 more. Yes! Absolutely at least one pic of yourself per month. That's a must. I still have a few pages to finish in 2021 so that's been keeping me busy for now. Just a few more pages to go, elljay, you got this! The finish line is close now... And then off you are doing 2022. No rest for the PL-wicked... I guess #4 I can answer now and that is lack of focus...too many things on my plate right now. My ADHD is kicking in full gear! Deep breaths, boymom5. You'll get to PL when you get to it. We're only 3 weeks into the new year. You've got plenty of time to jump in. Are you keeping notes for when do get to documenting? I'm having some sort of mental block trying to get the first 2 weeks done for some reason. I have the photos printed but beyond that I can't do the layouts. Begone, mental block! (did it work?) Maybe start on week 3? I hope you can break through and get PL-ing soon. BIG questions - do you all do a title page or do you just start the album with the pockets? First page (A-side of the first PP) is always an opening page. Usually, I blow up one photo and include the year number. The back of that is either the start of the album with the first month I'm documenting or a this-is-who-we-are-right-now double spread. When I do one of those spreads, I include age, main goal for the year, little trivia and tidbits like our current go-to habits/routine things. And of course a nice portrait pic of each of us. It's a great way to also use some of this large chipboard letters left over from old kits with our initials.

1. I am using pockets for scrapbooking events. So instead of 12x12 layout, I will use the pockets for the photos, journaling, and embellishments. Working on my first page (dd's 19th birthday) and so far I am enjoying this process. WAY less stressfull than doing a 12x12 layout.
2. So far this month has 4 events - Cabazon Dinosaurs, SBC Museum, March AFB Museum, and birthday. I may take a photo pf dd at the PC for college. Not sure yet.
3. No, since I am doing events and not traditional PL stuff.
4. Whatever events come up.

In my experience, the smallest pockets were from Becky Higgins but I'm not crazy about the plastic quality (or the seams). The disadvantage is that as soon as you add some embellishments, even quite flat, they become too tight. I've literally had to recut cards or photos when I used the BH PL PPs because I added vellum with my Tiny Attacher and then some alpha stickers and a tiny wood veneer heart.

Answering my own questions because PL is never the smoothest of rides... 1. As we are now 2/3 into January, what are your main stories/focuses for PL this month so far? A day out with musem visit, two family celebrations (1st and secular Epiphany), one recap spread for all the small things that range from the brand new locally made bed socks my mother got me (it's been such a cold January so far, brrrr) to the TV shows I watched and books I read. I love having a recap page at the end of the month where all the small things get corralled together. 2. Anything you still want to include? Anything you still need to photograph for January? I have another museum visit planned with my mother and then lunch together on Sunday so that will be one more event. I have decent portraits of myself already for this month so it looks like I'm good, woohoo! 3. Are you doing a recap page this month? What's going into your recap page? TV series, movies, music? Small details of life? Definitely a pop culture/small stuff recapper. For this month, I have 3 books + Dexter New Blood (we shall simply forget about the final 20 minutes of the reboot series because WTF) + the fuzzy bed socks + music + free slot that will probably go to The Woman Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (Netflix). We'll see how I like it when it releases next week! 4. What's your main obstacle to documenting January right now? Struggling with journaling, photography, card selection, including other POV? Photos. I'm nearly out of Selphy paper/dye ink sheets and the price has just gone through the roof lately where I live. So, I am waiting another couple of weeks before placing a print order. But I have planned it all out and know which pictures for each spread, what size and how the colours will look so I'm bulldozing along with the PL cards, journaling and paper inserts.

@sunnycamom Wanted to leave this old Caylee Grey PL video (I miss her PL + DD albums) for you because you're doing PL albums for each of your kids (it would be so easy to adapt this and focus on each child in their album instead of the whole family):
