The turkeys really do vote for Thanksgiving there. It’s amazing as an outsider. He keeps issuing them and people keep ignoring them. The long list of businesses and institutions on the AG’s “naughty list”‘for defying the governor’s no-mask-mandate mandate is hilarious. Businesses aren’t supposed to require employees to be vaccinated, but many do. Venues aren’t supposed to require any kind of vaccine passport, but some do. It’s like the turkeys voted for Thanksgiving but the cranberries are in open revolt. Abbott has no credibility here whatsoever. #TeamCranberry

But, but, but...natural immunity is way better than what you get from a vaccine that doesn't even work! *sarcasm there peas* I hope she doesn't get too sick and gets a smack upside her head and realizes it's beat to get vaccinated. While she may not get bad, long term side effects are not fun and can pop up months later. Yeah, that was her whole thing about not getting vaxxed back in January. She said she'd already had Covid the first summer so she didn't need a shot. We've had vaxxed staff members get Covid, but none of them have been seriously ill, and statistically we know that they weren't as likely to spread the disease to others over several days. And of course, most of us follow the district masking policy. Anyway. Other than the whole political/anti-vaxx thing, I like her as a a teacher acquaintance. I truly do not wish her ill. I really hate that this disease and its vaccine were ever made political. I'm as Republican as they come...but I got the darn vaccine. I still don't understand why anyone would not get the vaccine. We were all vaccinated against small pox, polio, measles, mumps...my son had to get vaccines in order to be allowed to attend public school as a child. We didn't question it, we just did it. So now, all of a sudden, vaccines are a bad idea? I just don't understand. Side note: I'm getting my booster this afternoon, and I'm so happy about it. My son got his booster yesterday. He works in a place where there is some Covid...and he doesn't want to get it. Edited to add: my BFF is in Greece for the holidays (he's from Greece). He says you can't walk into any restaurant without all three shots. Not surprisingly, they have less Covid than us in the US. It will be interesting to see what happens when his son (flying in today), who is completely unvaccinated, arrives. I guess he'll just have to stay home while the rest of the family goes out all the time.

*Update* Two more teachers, both vaxxed, have now tested positive. They are having "mild" symptoms so far, but of course they're still out for the week. What a cluster. ***** I’m sorry to hear that. Ugh. Covid, the gift that keeps on giving.

Even though the kids are DIRECT CONTACTS? I would think they'd have an obligation to let everybody know that there was "a positive case in the classroom community" or other such language - and shouldn't any unvaccinated kids be quarantining??? My school shuts down the classrooms where there is any positive case. That may change as the younger kids start getting vaccinated. (The teachers at my school are all vaccinated - the positive cases were breakthrough infections.) My district’s policy does not allow for the possibility of direct contact between teacher and student because we’re never supposed to be unmasked around students, and never in close contact for more than 15 minutes. That’s BS, of course. They discovered last year that if they considered the possibility of direct contacts between teacher and student they’d never have enough staff to keep the school open. Students are only supposed to be unmasked around a small cohort of classmates that doesn’t change. If one of the cohort is positive, only the cohort gets a notification and requirement to quarantine. That is so crazy. I ride the bus to work, and even Metro sends out Covid notifications like "2 bus drivers tested positive for Covid and they worked on routes 85 and 44". My company also sends out similar reports. Obviously they don't name the person, but they say what areas of the building they were in.

We have both had 3 doses now. It's not all politics. I have a cousin who is as Democrat as they come and unlike the rest of the family he chose not to get vaccinated. He was in the hospital in late October for 13 days with Covid and he was going back to work last week, maybe, depending on his breathing.

It is the logical thing to do, and the most moral, IMHO. Does your cousin believe in vaccinations now? There has been enough data gathered at this point to show that vaccines work, and there are far fewer people with side effects from the vaccine than from catching Covid.

Sorry that two other teachers now have it I hope their cases are mild snd they make a quick and full recovery. It seems likely then that students were exposed while she was contagious . It’s really too bad the parents aren’t being told so that they can test their children before holiday get togethers to me that should be criminal and I hope they don’t pass it on to a fragile relative.

I don't disagree with you. I would hope that anyone visiting fragile family members would get tested regardless, though. None of us knows for sure where we might be exposed.

Yikes, I hope they didn't get anyone else sick. I can't imagine working in a school and not being vaccinated. Schools are germ cesspools even in the best of times. Our anti-vaxx, anti-mask superintendent died a few weeks ago from Covid. Fortunately she was a rarity for our school - we still have a mask mandate and a high rate of vaccination among the staff.

I'm in Canada and I teach middle school ... my school board has required all staff and teachers to be vaccinated now ... We are also requiring masks of everyone ... including students ... I'm still amazed that we haven't had more Covid cases than we have

We're a 100% indoor masking district. Everyone (students and staff) is tested weekly (unvaxxed staff test twice weekly- don't know how many of those are).
Just got a notice that another 2nd grader tested positive (I was in this classroom on Tuesday). Another elementary school currently has 1 student and 1 staff positive case. High school also has 1 positive staff case and 1 student case.
Our poor assistant principal who is in charge of contract tracing is looking rough these days. We have four 2nd graders on quarantine (due to close contact and lax masking behavior) and another 10 on modified quarantine (good masking protocol) until winter break (12/21).
I couldn't imagine working in a district where masks aren't mandated indoors. And testing- thank goodness for testing.

What a cluster. ***** It's her 2nd time having Covid. She rarely wears a mask in class and doesn't really enforce masking for her kids in the classroom. That's kind of an open secret. I understand she's quite ill. If she had to get sick, I'm glad it was at a time when many of the kids in her class are partially or fully vaxxed (and their parents likely are, too). I don't wish her any bad outcome, obviously - I'm just concerned for the kids in her class. But the super fun part is that she was diagnosed yesterday and was also at the staff holiday party last Friday evening. Will be interesting to see what happens with that. Most of the staff is fully vaccinated. I did not go. I'm glad we start the holiday break this weekend so any cases that crop up hopefully won't spread too far. I predict that once omicron is in full force, schools will be a complete sh*t show. I think we will all end up getting it – even the fully vaccinated. Hopefully it will be mild. But I cannot imagine the mess it will cause with sub shortages. I fully expect us to shut down at least once due to lack of teachers…

I work in a small high school (400 students) and we would never be able to get away with no wearing a mask. Some other teacher would see and report it. I still can’t believe that she is so selfish, oblivious, stupid, and many other adjectives, that she doesn’t think about how her actions impact others.
My sister teaches 4th grade and is fully vaccinated and got Covid. Very mild symptoms but she had to be out for a week. She’s very social and I don’t know if she wears a masks when she’s out but when she found out she felt terrible about potentially exposing others. They are masked at school.

Damn. 🥴😞 I really hope the vaxx does it’s job for the pregnant teacher especially - and keeps them from getting really sick. I’d be kind of annoyed at that first teacher at this point. Willfully spreading a Russian roulette disease is no joke.

A local hospital here just brought back their mobile trailer morgue and it’s sitting right out in front.
😳😳😳
It’s a shame that these idiots refusing to at a minimum, wear a mask, social distance or get the vaccine haven’t learned a lesson yet.

Oh no on the pregnant unvaccinated teacher. I hope she snd her baby are ok. The pregnant teacher is vaccinated. The first teacher to test positive - who presumably passed it on to the others - is the unvaccinated one. There are a lot of kids out in both the kindergarten classes where the teacher is positive today. I suspect the gossip tree told the parents even if the school couldn't.

I'm absolutely done with unvaccinated people putting everyone else at risk.
I'm glad the pregnant teacher is vaccinated - the statistics on pregnant women, low vaxx rates, and Covid are not good.
I hope you stay healthy. Is tomorrow your last day before break?

I’ve been freaking out all day because I have a little tickle in my throat, but I’m pretty sure it’s just because I had the classroom window open all day because the ancient AC keeps it about 55 degrees in my classroom. It was 80 outside, so … let the dust and pollen in! I texted with the pregnant teacher today - we’re pretty good friends - and she says her symptoms are mild and her OB is not too concerned at this point. So that’s good news.

We are still masking at our school and community vaxx rate is close to 75% - so hoping we hold onto to our low rate of cases.

One of our kindergarten teachers has been out all week with Covid. She was vaccinated, but had not received a booster. She attended a holiday party about a week before she started showing symptoms. We can't get subs, so a few people have been pulled from their regular jobs to cover her class. A good share of our paraprofessionals have not been vaccinated at all and quite a few teachers have not had their boosters yet. Most of our elementary students have not been vaccinated and they no longer have to wear masks. The Omicron variant might have a lot of fun in my building after Christmas.
