*2nd update* Another fully vaccinated teacher has Covid. She's on the same team as the first, unvaccinated one who tested positive. She's 32 weeks pregnant. This is a shitshow.
*****
*Update* Two more teachers, both vaxxed, have now tested positive. They are having "mild" symptoms so far, but of course they're still out for the week. What a cluster.
*****
It's her 2nd time having Covid. She rarely wears a mask in class and doesn't really enforce masking for her kids in the classroom. That's kind of an open secret. I understand she's quite ill.
If she had to get sick, I'm glad it was at a time when many of the kids in her class are partially or fully vaxxed (and their parents likely are, too). I don't wish her any bad outcome, obviously - I'm just concerned for the kids in her class.
But the super fun part is that she was diagnosed yesterday and was also at the staff holiday party last Friday evening. Will be interesting to see what happens with that. Most of the staff is fully vaccinated. I did not go. I'm glad we start the holiday break this weekend so any cases that crop up hopefully won't spread too far.

Maybe it is probably my caution, but it blows me away that this isn't a liability concern. I hope that she suffers no long-term effects.

I believe our governor has decreed that no business or institution can be sued if someone contracts Covid there. IDK. I've honestly lost track of all his executive orders.

Reason #1 that I am grateful that our governor mandated vaccines for all public school teachers, and most complied.
Good luck....I hope not too mnay people are impacted by her illness, and that she recovers.

But, but, but...natural immunity is way better than what you get from a vaccine that doesn't even work! *sarcasm there peas* I hope she doesn't get too sick and gets a smack upside her head and realizes it's beat to get vaccinated. While she may not get bad, long term side effects are not fun and can pop up months later.

I hope none of her students or their family members (or any other staff members) get ill because of her.
Her? Whatever happens happens, I guess.

While she may not get bad, long term side effects are not fun and can pop up months later. Yeah, that was her whole thing about not getting vaxxed back in January. She said she'd already had Covid the first summer so she didn't need a shot. We've had vaxxed staff members get Covid, but none of them have been seriously ill, and statistically we know that they weren't as likely to spread the disease to others over several days. And of course, most of us follow the district masking policy. Anyway. Other than the whole political/anti-vaxx thing, I like her as a a teacher acquaintance. I truly do not wish her ill. I really hate that this disease and its vaccine were ever made political.

Ugh. I hope that none of the students or other staff members end up with COVID because of her. As for her..... whatevs.
My DSO works at a primary school (not a teacher). I am glad that I don't have to worry too much about him contracting COVID, from a teacher anyway, because all unvaccinated teachers were out of a job from November. Only a couple of teachers from his school had to leave due to refusing to be vaccinated.

I’m hoping that her students don’t pass it on to grandma next week How frustrating. I really hope she didn’t pass it on to anyone else.

Good grief. I hope she didn't infect anyone. But chances are probably not good on that front. What an incredibly selfish act...to not get vaccinated if you are able.

So much for natural immunity. 😏
Can we stop calling it that? It’s immunity by (in this case) deliberate and willful infection.

Not sure as I haven’t had to figure it out due to exposure thank goodness. Really hoping she didn’t pass it to anyone else. Did she get tested yesterday or test over the weekend due to symptoms and get results yesterday ? This is just going to keep happening over snd over. We know getting it doesn’t prevent future infections. Thinking there was even a celebrity that got Covid was then vaccinated fully and then got it again.

We have a science teacher in our building that had and recovered from leukemia. She and her husband are anti-vaxxers. She is pregnant with her 3rd child. I really, really hope she stays healthy. I think it is terrifying.

The faculty gossip tree is light on testing details. Obviously for privacy reasons, admin can’t tell us anything. They can’t even tell the parents in the class. But seriously - when the school tells you your kid’s teacher is suddenly out for the week before the holiday break, they have to know, right?

Kids could be asymptomatic and pass it on to an elderly relative. I just don’t understand not informing people they have been exposed. I know it happens all over but it just keeps the spread going. If they knew maybe they would test prior to getting together.

They can’t even tell the parents in the class. Even though the kids are DIRECT CONTACTS? I would think they'd have an obligation to let everybody know that there was "a positive case in the classroom community" or other such language - and shouldn't any unvaccinated kids be quarantining??? My school shuts down the classrooms where there is any positive case. That may change as the younger kids start getting vaccinated. (The teachers at my school are all vaccinated - the positive cases were breakthrough infections.)

Most schools I know of are not doing quarantines if a teacher is the positive case. Total bs.

My district’s policy does not allow for the possibility of direct contact between teacher and student because we’re never supposed to be unmasked around students, and never in close contact for more than 15 minutes. That’s BS, of course. They discovered last year that if they considered the possibility of direct contacts between teacher and student they’d never have enough staff to keep the school open. Students are only supposed to be unmasked around a small cohort of classmates that doesn’t change. If one of the cohort is positive, only the cohort gets a notification and requirement to quarantine.

We had HFM in my son's room so we all got an email, no name mentioned. If there's Covid then the entirr school gets a generic email and those who could have had close contact get a different notice to quarantine.

But then, even in my fairly Covid-cautious (and still mask mandated) state, I think that there should be liability for those who host events that aren't monitored and then turn out to be super spreader events. Crawling back into my cautious corner.

I really hope she didn't infect anyone at the party of any her students. If she's really sick and only tested positive yesterday though, chances are she's been ill for at least a few days.
Many of you must live in places that actually still take this seriously. My kids school only reports cases that occur "in school" and only once a week, on Sunday evening at about 9:00 with just an updated case count. If a student tests positive over the weekend or on a Monday or if the student was absent the day before they tested positive, those cases don't count because the student wasn't in school! Our state had a masking order until Friday so even if there was a case, there were almost never any close contacts - maybe one friend who sat by the sick kid at lunch. Not band members, not cast members or crew from the school play (even if they were responsible for putting a mic on the sick kid!), it's seriously miraculous how no one in our school district ever has contact with anyone else.

The long list of businesses and institutions on the AG’s “naughty list”‘for defying the governor’s no-mask-mandate mandate is hilarious. Businesses aren’t supposed to require employees to be vaccinated, but many do. Venues aren’t supposed to require any kind of vaccine passport, but some do. It’s like the turkeys voted for Thanksgiving but the cranberries are in open revolt. Abbott has no credibility here whatsoever.
