I didn’t take the comment as that. I took it as she is in Texas and fully vaccinated. She does not wear a mask ( as we have learned many do not in Texas) and has not necessarily been limiting where she goes. She did come down with Covid and assumes she got it while out shopping. Nothing was ever said about going out shopping afterwards, only that is where she presumed she got it. I could be wrong (and often am) but that is my take on what she meant. My post was sarcasm in reply to rodeomom question that I quoted in my reply. But still even is the shopping after infection didn't even happen, by not wearing a mask she did quite possibly still infected others from the time she initially caught it ( in her words "possibly shopping") until she showed symptoms unless she stayed indoors for 3 or 4 days before her symptoms Sorry, I should have just quoted Rodeomom as that was mostly what I was replying to.

I wonder if all the people who think people are living in fear if they take precautions against Covid, are sitting in a house filled with guns. Talk about living in fear. Bring your AR15 to Walmart. Now that's living in fear. Fuck all you selfish people! My sil is an ICU nurse. 40 patients in her unit. 39 unvaxxed. 1 vaxxed. Healthcare workers are overwhelmed and exhausted. Don't want a vaccine. Don't want to wear masks. Don't go to the hospital or doctor if you get sick. Keep your selfish ass home. 1000x that!

I know Covid is unfortunately political and a lot of factors play in to what state you live in. I live in TX and we basically never shut down. Our kids returned to school in the Fall of 2020 and we haven’t had any mask mandates. My family is from Florida so I also spend as much time there as I can. Aside from a few months in early 2020, Florida has been business as usual. Most people I know are vaxxed. Very few wear masks and we are back to living our lives for the most part. I really don’t give Covid too much thought or worry about it until I am on here. So many are terrified and missing out on life. I know a lot of people are immuno compromised and have to watch out for other family members (and I get that) but for those of you that are fully vaxxed and can wear a mask, I guess I don’t understand why people are so hesitant to get back to normal. In my opinion, some form of Covid is here to stay and we can’t stay locked up forever. I do understand that a lot of it depends on where you live and your local government. My elderly parents are in Florida and at first I was pissed that DeSantis wasn’t doing anything. But now I kind of get it and am also glad how our government in TX handled everything. My husbands family is in CA and they have been terrified this whole time. Their kids never went back to school last year and many are still working from home. They think we are crazy for living our lives and not being terrified. I decided awhile back that my mental health was suffering and I needed to resume my normal activities (once I was fully vaxxed). I am just wondering if I am in the minority or if others feel the same way. Ultimately, I feel like everyone has to do what’s best for them but I refuse to live in fear any longer. I’m particularly interested in hearing from others who live in TX and FL. Canadian. I see it this way. It's a virus. It's a pandemic. The virus doesn't give a shit who you are or where you live. A virus isn't anything remotely political! The main concern I have seen is that hospitals can get overwhelmed. I have see articles of healthcare workers leaving the field because they have had enough. Watching as people die including co workers. Dealing with patients who now have long Covid (my best friend does, caught covid before the vaccines and is constantly having to go back to the hospital because of it). Dealing with postponing other patients proceeders because there's an influx of Covid patients and they get treated first. I have seen a post from a nurse in Florida who was so pissed at people for not taking this seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if she quit by now from the pure exhaustion physically and emotionally. The strain on our health care professionals is a real problem. At my work at a grocery store, I had a nurse at my cash. She overheard one of my co workers saying "He won't take the mask." In total frustration she said "Give me the mask and I'll have a talk with him. I have stories that would curl his toes." It isn't fair that this virus has hit so many people so far. My family has been lucky so far but I'm not going to live in a world where I think that means everything is okay because it just isn't. My husband is from India and keeps in touch with old classmates. They have Zoom meetings now and he said it is disheartening when someone doesn't show up and someone else says, Well he passed away from Covid or is in mourning because he lost a loved one. India got hit hard in huge populated areas. However the best I can do is look out for my fellow human beings. And if that means I wear a mask and use hand sanitizer a LOT, then that's what I do. I'm doubled vaxxed. My husband has had his first booster. I'm due for mine soon. Both my kids are double vaxxed. Everyone stay safe and healthy.

You can do whatever you want. People who are scared should definitely stay home. That doesn’t impact me at all. I just think it’s silly for peas to say they’re living their lives and also say they’re avoiding events, socializing, and travel. What else is there? Just answering your last question… Reading, playing games with my family, watching movies, local hiking, bike riding, waking the dogs, learning new recipes, my DD is taking ukulele lessons online… My youngest is getting guitars for Christmas. My husband's idea. We've always had board games around so just doing more of that as a family. But yes, there's tons to do things outside of events, socializing outside of the home and travel.

Unless you’re the type of person who constantly needs entertainment provided by other people. In that case, I’m sure the idea of spending even one day limited to your home might be excruciating.

Can you even imagine what it must be like to live with someone like that?

My SIL is also an iCU curse and my brother is a Respiratory Therapist..on the front lines. I'm of the mindset is okay fine, if you wind up ill with COIVD and aren't vaccinated you go to the back of the line. No one else should be impacted by your poor decisions. Don't trust the science of vaccines? Then you don't qualify for medical treatment either. Its really simple. No medical transplants for you either. Save the monclonal anti-bodies for the responsible people who deserve them. I'll bet if they start implementing those types of restrictions you'll see the vaccine rates start to soar. Make the anti vaxxers accountable. Go home, get in bed, and take your Ivermectin and inject some bleach.

I live in AR.
I have gotten all 3 doses of the vaccine and have went back to wearing a mask while in public. (Have been dealing with walking pneumonia that isn't COVID related so trying to cut down on allergens exposed to).
Horse track/casino has went back to 'normal'. No more reservations for track. (It was a PITA but worth it). No more masks for any area on property though I have saw an increase of masks from the fall.
Poetry night is back (again). Started back in June. It had been vaxed people had to show proof to not wear a mask, non vaxxed had to wear masks. Then it went to everyone had to wear masks. One regular attendee stopped coming due to amount of unvaxxed. (She would ask people if they were and if they said no she would move). She done that again after the last break we had August through October. I know she wants to be careful but it seems like she is being too careful. She might not be though because I don't know her medical history.
I think it will get to the point where most won't wear masks and vaccine status won't be such a hot topic. I don't think it will fully go back to pre covid normal. Too much damage and fighting between people.

This was the ad in todays Cleveland plain dealer. Hospitals are begging people to be vaccinated. And I ousted last week about the mobile morgue coming back to our local hospital. They just brought in more refrigerated trailers today. Governor said 9 of 10 people in hospital with Covid are unvaccinated.

Well, my governor has called up 1000 National Guard to help with staffing shortage in the NE Ohio region-which is where I live. The highest incidences are in Cleveland’s and Akron-Canton, but my county has seen a big uptick in cases too. The school system that I retired from had to go virtual until after Christmas because there were so many food service absences-and it’s a very high poverty district- that they had no way of feeding the kids. My friends who are still working were upset because they had activities and gifts for the kids. The kids were upset too. It’s just terrible. So around here, Covid is bad. A lot of people are carrying on with life. But I’m 66, and not feeling especially lucky, so I am being very careful. Limited contact and yes, masking for me. My friends are doing the same. BUT I will be spending Christmas with my fully vaxed family. What are the National Gaurd staffing and who are going to fill in the positions that they will leave empty to go staff elsewhere?

Before I was vaccinated, I was terrified. I did isolate as a fairly healthy (albeit overweight) person. After vaccination, I was less terrified. Although I still to this day mask up in public, I am not worried for myself. I’m boosted and I’ve already had Covid (a mild case, thanks to my vaccine). I teach every day. I go about my normal life (although still do not go to large indoor gatherings with unmasked strangers). I have been worried about passing it on to my immunocompromised brother. Now we have Omicron. It is NOT milder, despite media reports. If you are unvaccinated or immunocompromised, you CAN get severely sick or die, just like with alpha and delta. And it is CRAZY contagious. I fully expect that most of us WILL get it. If you’re boosted, you’ll most likely just have a flu-like case. But our hospitals will be overwhelmed like never before, and I’m not interested in making their jobs harder by being careless and spreading it, even if I am asymptomatic or have a mild case. There have been NO deaths from omicron in the USA. Eventually virtually everyone will get some form of covid. It won’t matter if you are unvaxed, vaxed, boosted or boosted 25 times. I’m choosing to live my life without fear of this illness. Well there are now. And 70%+ of new cases are omicron.

Here is a chart that shown how fast this new variant omicron has kind of taken over.
I did some reading and I don’t understand half of what I read but what I understand is this.
Besides the idiots who can but refuse to be vaccinated and some thinking they don’t need to because they have natural immunity and by doing this are slowing down getting a handle on the virus, we also have these variants that keep popping up.
And every time a new variant pops up we have to take a step backwards while the medical types rush to find out if the current vaccines offer any protection for the new variant.
A variant only needs one host body to form. The research I read believes these variants form in the bodies of unvaccinated individuals. If that is true then logic dictates that the more people that are vaccinated throughput the world there would be less chances of new variants popping up. Because the more variants that pop up the greater the chance there will be one that the current batch of vaccines won’t work against this new variant and we are back to square one until they find a vaccine that will. And as long as there are large groups of the people not vaccinated this will be a constant threat and create a potential roller coaster existence.
This is a simplistic look at a complex issue because we have to find ways to protect those who can’t get vaccinated. And the richest countries of the world must make sure the poorest countries get all the vaccines they need to vaccinated their people.
Until that happens we can’t go back to the way it was before the pandemic. We may never be able to because the new normal may be different, not bad, just different. And I don’t think anyone knows what it will be yet.
I don’t think people should be living in fear of the virus but they need to take it serious and make decisions accordingly. In other words put on their thinking caps.

🤷🏻♀️ If you want to increase the chances of dying that’s your choice. I obviously survived covid. I’m not worried about dying. You do understand you can get it again don’t you? And if you are not vaccinated you could become the host body for the newest variant. I mean who wants to be the host body for a mutating virus. Ick! I’m not sure what would bother me the most. Hooked up to ventilators or have a mutating virus inside me.

🤷🏻♀️ If you want to increase the chances of dying that’s your choice. I obviously survived covid. I’m not worried about dying. Maybe you should be. If you had delta or alpha, you might not have antibodies to omicron or some future variant. Studies clearly show the best way to be protected is a prior infection and a vaccine. Furthermore, a doctor would tell you that you have acquired immunity, not natural immunity.

Yes, it’s either acquired immunity by vaccination or infection. There is no natural immunity to a novel virus. There is absolutely nothing special or natural about it.
