I’m stalled, stalled, stalled. I’ve got a doctors appointment in 6 weeks and haven’t lost a Single pound. In fact I gained 2 and it’s taken me weeks to lose them. Ugh.
Can we talk goal weight/ target weight/ ideal weight? My doctor gave me a printout with all of my health and blood work results and it has my ideal weight. I’m currently in the “normal weight range” but barely. A few pounds put me back at overweight. But sheesh. These last 11 lbs are tough, sigh.
I’m another one that needs to hit the treadmill. It’s in our finished basement and it’s cold down there. There is a gas fireplace down there and I just need to go down and turn it on to warm the room up, but I’ve just been too lazy.
I also have arthritis in my knees and I think it must be in my hips, too. Last night I could hardly sleep because of the pain. The doctor did give me a prescription for a cream, it does work but it takes a while for it to be affective after I put it on. It’s also a kind of a pain in the neck and get up in the middle of the night and put on. I need to suck it up and just do it.
I think we’re done with all the holiday food, so I need to make a healthy meal tonight. Baked, lightly glazed salmon and steamed cauliflower is sounding pretty good right now.

For anyone contemplating trying to start yoga, I would say just jump in and try a few poses.
The great thing is you really don't have to buy any special equipment. I got a mat for Christmas, but for the first six weeks I used a folded flannel sheet to cushion the floor.
Also, I think it is great that you don't have to keep up with "reps" like so many other exercise programs. You can do what you are able and modify to your ability. Plus, there is no impact so it is really good for my back.
At first I couldn't bend as far as the lady on the app but I make a little progress each time.
It doesn't feel like you have worked out when you are done with a routine, but it does add up.
I am going to start moving more this year. I got out my just dance switch game and will try to do one song a day to start.
Remember, you don't have to make huge sweeping changes in your lifestyle all at once. Pick a few small things to work on and after a few weeks add something else.
We can do this!

I'd love to join and I promise not to preach about whole foods, plant based eating. I'm at a cross roads regarding exercising after being a complete couch potato for years and not exercising at all. I hate to exercise but I love being active in the sports I like when I'm feeling up to it. On my recent vacation to St. John USVI I was very active with tons of snorkeling and a tiny bit of hiking. My body paid the price after not being active at all for years. But other than that I came back feeling emotionally a ton better and not anywhere near as tired as I had been. I'm sure it's the exercise and being out in the fresh air every day. So I've promised myself to not get back into the couch potato mode, but fight like crazy to continue the exercise and healthy moving mode. I'm planning to start with yoga at home (I've never done it before but think I would like it) during the cold months and when it warms up I plan to start swimming at our local pool or maybe even in the Chesapeake Bay. I've always been very flexible as a child and teen (much less so at 61 ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) ) but can still hold out my foot in my hand and stretch out my leg-discovered this while goofing around in the water at the beach. It helps to have short legs. I think yoga would be a good fit for me. DS found a great yoga program and would like to do it too. It's by a former pro wrestler (yeah, I know) but this guy developed this for fitness and took all of the mysticism out of it-so no Namastes and stuff like that. I'll let you all know what I think of it once I get going with it. Food wise since the pandemic I've been cheating on my whole foods, plant based diet and gained 20-25 pounds past my goal weight. My clothes are tight and I don't like how I look or feel. I added cheese and eggs to my diet and while on vacation added fish since I can eat it without my digestion fighting back-still can't stomach meat. We stayed on the quiet side of the island-St. John is super small just 5 miles wide and 9 miles long. The biggest "town" is Cruz Bay where the ferry docks and then on the other side of the island is Coral Bay which is much quieter. We stayed in Coral Bay and it takes about 30 minutes to drive to Cruz Bay because of the roads-very hilly, twisty and steep. Fun as all get out in a jeep and driving on the other side, but gas is close to $4.00 a gallon. Because of the pandemic and the 2 massive hurricanes that hit in 2017 a lot of restaurants have closed so in the area we were staying there were only 3-4 restaurants that were left. An expensive pizza joint, an Asian fusion restaurant, a very expensive, very nice restaurant, and Skinny Legs-our favorite restaurant that served burgers and the best Mahi Mahi sandwich I've ever eaten. Everything was grilled since they had no fryer. We went to Skinny Legs a lot. Anyway, now that I'm home I plan to get back to my WFPB diet and drop the fish (don't want to eat my fishy friends anymore anyway ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) ) drop the eggs and the cheese-although I must admit that for Christmas we had a very nice cheese platter with olives and almonds. Cheese is the hardest thing to stop eating but if I put my mind to it I think I can do it (again). I did have some left over Brie yesterday.

I was doing physical therapy after a rotator cuff surgery several years ago and had been following my whole foods, plant based diet for less than a year. I'd lost about 30 pounds by then and I was asking my physical therapist who also happened to be the owner of the place what my ideal/target weight should be. I'd started the entire getting healthy process 2 years before the WFPB diet at 189 pounds. When I started WFPB I was 169 pounds, so at this point I was around 139 pounds. He did some calculations on his Iphone and told me 125 pounds was my ideal/target weight for my height of 5 feet and 3 inches. I have no idea what he used to calculate it but by the time I got to that weight I looked very skinny. My mother said my face looked gaunt but then she always said I looked too skinny by that point. For myself I loved the way I felt at 125-128 pounds. I too have arthritis in my knees. I see an Integrative Medicine doctor and he prefers to use supplements (vitamin based) instead of prescriptions whenever possible. He gave one to me that helps so much with my arthritis that it takes away all of the pain as long as I take it regularly. It's made by Designs for Health and is called "ArthroSoothe" It has herbs, minerals and collagen in it. You can buy it online (I do). Just google the manufacture (Designs for Health) and some sites will pop up to buy it from. I like and use pureformulas.com Of course you can always get it from Amazon but for something like this I prefer to buy from somewhere else.

I'm up two pounds from my recent low. While that kind of sucks, it does mean I'm eating again which also means that I'm getting better

I am continuing on my weight loss journey. I am now down a total of 72 pounds, and am wearing the size pants I wore in college. My lower back flared up and I wasn’t able to work out for the past month. Thanks to the chiropractor I am feeling much better and think I’ll be ready to work out again next week with the influx of NY resolutionists.

I am still working out regularly. I haven't been walking as much as I used to. My eating is out of control. Holidays, plus emotional eating. I haven't been tracking. I start the day great and then just go out of control. I need to get back on track. The scale is heading the wrong way!

Has anyone read "100 Days of Weight Loss"? Someone in a Facebook group mentioned it today and I ordered it. I also have been writing down some goals/game plan for the new year. Mostly related to how I structure my day. I need to work on time management and organization all around. Part of my morning routine is going to be 10 min of yoga/stretching, reading the 100 Days book, and mapping out my day.

I started counting calories on November 1st and tracking in the Lose It app. I'm following a calorie deficit.
I'm down 22 lbs.
I'm not restricting any foods or macro nutrients. The only thing I do focus on is protien and trying to keep that high. A minimum of 100g a day, but prefer to be at 120-140g/day.
I haven't been perfect since November 1, but have tracked everything no matter what. I follow a couple of people on Tik Tok that I really like and am really focusing on my relationship with food in general. They encourage consistency and no food is a bad food.

I am having to learn how to eat. I am lower now and this was where my GP said no more. Eating is a problem with the holidays but next week will be normal keto food.

@bethferacofitness @mattlaarfit
They both like to swear, be warned. But both are in fitness and nutrition and talk a lot about TFEE and NEAT in order to set calorie goals, etc.
@cooklikeimbook - he does a lot of cooking and showing how to make things you want to eat in a healthier way (keeping in mind, he does not believe in cutting out specific macros either)
@_eofit - she is really zen and calm.
All of these people preach calorie deficit, no foods are bad foods, etc.

I am jumping in here too....I have had a weight issue most of my adult life. I am currently at my lowest weight in about 8 years. Doing WW....and walking, a lot since I retired last October. This is the first time in all the years I have done WW that I haven't said screw it I'll enjoy the holidays and get back to it is January....of course undoing all the good I had done. Instead I am down about 5 lbs in December!!! Yeah Me.
I am a biker so I do have a spin bike for winter indoor riding and do classes on the peloton app on my iPad. I walk or hike in the woods with a friend several times a week....I am considering the Yoga on you tube that was mentioned here. I'll look at it as I really want to increase my flexibility.
I do track all my food and exercise, and am way better about drinking my water.....annd have decreased the wine consumption....although I do love my wine!!

My friend was just telling me about this challenge that she plans to do. Thought I'd share if anyone is interested. You virtually walk/run around Yellowstone National Park and if you get to a certain point they will plant a tree and with further progress, stop ten plastic bottles going into the ocean. www.theconqueror.events/yellowstone/

I think "ideal weights" are not as concrete as they sound. What is ideal for someone else may be too high or low for you. I think you should go by what feels good for you, as well as what is sustainable. Also, your ideal weight when you were 20 is most likely too low now. I know my college weight would not be sustainable now, if I ever got there again.

I really have a hard time with food tracking and/or calorie counting.
I have done WW in the past as well as used several different apps, but when I do my entire life begins to revolve around food.
What/when/how much. Don't even get me started on the difficulty of trying to log something like a homemade soup or any dish with multiple ingredients.
I have been trying to concentrate on portion control, cutting back on sugar and added fats, and drastically reducing junk food/unhealthy stuff.

I just spent an hour emptying out my hall closet. Up and down stairs the entire time. Floors are getting refinished starting Monday. DH just asked if I wanted to go to the gym , so today is definitely a win in the exercise column. I made my food plans for the day, so that’s good also. Now to just follow them.

Anybody compare mfp and the lose it app? $20 for the year doesn't sound bad for lose it if it is worth it. Otherwise, I'll stay with the free version of mfp I was using the free version of MFP for a week or two when I started, but a friend was raving about Lose It so I did the 7 day free trial, then switched over completely at Black Friday (they had a good sale then as well). I prefer the interface personally of Lose It. It may just be a preference though. But in the reading I did before making the switch online, the reviews seem to agree, the Interface on Lose It is better than MFP. Lose It does have a smart camera feature where you take a picture of your food and it will fairly accurately guess what it is for easier/quicker tracking. It will give you a list of items to choose from and then track it from that. I personally don't use it that often because I prefer to be precise. I enter my recipes w/ # of servings so I get exact calories. I use the bar code feature everytime I can so I'm using the actual calories from the item I'm using. The nice thing is once I've scanned something I don't have to scan it again.

I think you should go by what feels good for you, as well as what is sustainable. Also, your ideal weight when you were 20 is most likely too low now. I know my college weight would not be sustainable now, if I ever got there again. The previous 4 sentences were posted by another poster (iamkristin16) but for some reason it's not being reflected as such. My response to her post above is written below: I understand what you are saying and agree with most of it-however I do feel if it's still a good idea to make the "ideal weight" number given to you by a professional a goal. Once you get there you can access how you feel in that weight. Live in it for awhile and really feel what it feels like. Let's face it, in this country (USA) we have an epidemic of overweight and obese people. Let me make it clear-I do NOT blame the people! I blame our quality of food (all of the processed foods etc. ), the erroneous advice we are given by our government regarding meat and dairy being healthy and being included in a healthy daily diet, even the advice given by most traditional physicians regarding a healthy diet. How is the average Joe or Jane supposed to sift through all of this in order to not only lose weight but to maintain it? Here in the USA we are so used to seeing overweight people everywhere. Take a trip to a country in Europe (Holland, Germany or even Japan), stay there for 2 weeks and come back and you'll see what I mean. Look at your own personal photos dating back to the 1960's and 1970's (if you are old enough) and you'll see that most people weren't overweight or obese. Googling just now I found out that 36.5 percent of adults are obese in the USA and 32.5 percent are overweight. In all more than two-thirds of adults are overweight or obese. This was from healthline.com What I'm getting to (and I'm sorry it's so long winded) is that when I first heard my health care professional say my ideal weight was 125 lbs I too was shocked. I thought "No way in hell am I ever going to be able to get that low, much less maintain it." Looking at this man who owned the physical therapy practice he looked to be in his late 40's but was slim and muscular. He also went to the gym every single day. I was never a gym rat and knew I never could be. Heck, I still have my first driver's license I got when I was 16. The info on it says I was 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighed 130 pounds. I'd lost an inch in height between then and now so 125 lbs seemed a far fetched idea to me at the time. Once I got down to that weight however I realized it really wasn't. It felt good, although to be totally honest I felt better at 128-130 lbs. I believe when we think a goal weight is too low, unrealistic or unsustainable we are setting ourselves up for failure at the get go with negative thinking. We are so used to seeing overweight and obese adults around us nowadays that our perception of a "healthy normal weight" in our eyes has been skewed perhaps.

If anyone’s interested you can sign up to a free 30 day programme from Yoga with Adriene. She’s an amazing teacher and has loads of YouTube videos for every level. I started a few years ago with her beginners lessons and need to get back to it. do.yogawithadriene.com/move Thank you so much for this link gillyp. I'm signing up as soon as I'm healed 100% from my trip and can begin the 30 days. I'm still stiff and sore all of the exercise on my trip after being a couch potato for years. Anyway, thanks again. I really appreciate it.

Finished the week and walked 3.5 miles every day. Tomorrow the gym is closed and it snowed here and stbx is downstairs by the treadmill.
I may try one of the yoga apps or workouts.
Tomorrow I will be checking my weight and body measurements and making sure they are in mfp.
Starting tomorrow, NY tiny habit will be 5 squats and ten arm circles (front and back) every time I use the bathroom.

Keep counting calories or carbs or macros or points. That’s my best advice and portion control.
BFF lost 20 lbs in 2 months and she is mad. It takes time. Twenty pounds in 2 months is awesome.
