Finished the week and walked 3.5 miles every day. Tomorrow the gym is closed and it snowed here and stbx is downstairs by the treadmill. I may try one of the yoga apps or workouts. Tomorrow I will be checking my weight and body measurements and making sure they are in mfp. Starting tomorrow, NY tiny habit will be 5 squats and ten arm circles (front and back) every time I use the bathroom. love this! I’m a big believer in tiny habits that build to make a change. I love yoga. I’ve been doing it for almost 3 years - I started it when I began trying to lose weight and kept with it because it made my body feel so good!

Just an FYI if anyone is interesting in either trying out a whole foods, plant based diet or beginning one, forksoverknives.com is offering a free 21 day program complete with emails with recipes, tips and inspiration. It's called "Forks Fresh Start 2022" and you can sign up for free now on their website. I just signed myself up even though I've been doing this diet for almost 7 years. As I mentioned in my previous post I've slipped quite a bit since the pandemic started and I really want to get back to this style of eating. It begins tomorrow January 1st-sorry for the late notice-I just came across this myself on Facebook.

I think "ideal weights" are not as concrete as they sound. What is ideal for someone else may be too high or low for you. I think you should go by what feels good for you, as well as what is sustainable. Also, your ideal weight when you were 20 is most likely too low now. I know my college weight would not be sustainable now, if I ever got there again. The previous 4 sentences were posted by another poster (iamkristin16) but for some reason it's not being reflected as such. My response to her post above is written below: I understand what you are saying and agree with most of it-however I do feel if it's still a good idea to make the "ideal weight" number given to you by a professional a goal. Once you get there you can access how you feel in that weight. Live in it for awhile and really feel what it feels like. Let's face it, in this country (USA) we have an epidemic of overweight and obese people. Let me make it clear-I do NOT blame the people! I blame our quality of food (all of the processed foods etc. ), the erroneous advice we are given by our government regarding meat and dairy being healthy and being included in a healthy daily diet, even the advice given by most traditional physicians regarding a healthy diet. How is the average Joe or Jane supposed to sift through all of this in order to not only lose weight but to maintain it? Here in the USA we are so used to seeing overweight people everywhere. Take a trip to a country in Europe (Holland, Germany or even Japan), stay there for 2 weeks and come back and you'll see what I mean. Look at your own personal photos dating back to the 1960's and 1970's (if you are old enough) and you'll see that most people weren't overweight or obese. Googling just now I found out that 36.5 percent of adults are obese in the USA and 32.5 percent are overweight. In all more than two-thirds of adults are overweight or obese. This was from healthline.com What I'm getting to (and I'm sorry it's so long winded) is that when I first heard my health care professional say my ideal weight was 125 lbs I too was shocked. I thought "No way in hell am I ever going to be able to get that low, much less maintain it." Looking at this man who owned the physical therapy practice he looked to be in his late 40's but was slim and muscular. He also went to the gym every single day. I was never a gym rat and knew I never could be. Heck, I still have my first driver's license I got when I was 16. The info on it says I was 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighed 130 pounds. I'd lost an inch in height between then and now so 125 lbs seemed a far fetched idea to me at the time. Once I got down to that weight however I realized it really wasn't. It felt good, although to be totally honest I felt better at 128-130 lbs. I believe when we think a goal weight is too low, unrealistic or unsustainable we are setting ourselves up for failure at the get go with negative thinking. We are so used to seeing overweight and obese adults around us nowadays that our perception of a "healthy normal weight" in our eyes has been skewed perhaps. I get what you are saying, but if someone is saying that they are really having trouble losing the last 10lbs (like the person I was quoting stated) and are technically in a healthy weight range, maybe it is ok for them to work on maintaining rather than being miserable trying to lose those last 10. I would also want to know how that ideal weight number was calculated.

I was doing so well when I started trying to be healthier in August. That lasted until the end of October when a tooth infection reared its ugly head, we were having lots of problems with DS, and I managed to slip into some major depression. I quickly gained back all 12 lbs I lost and 4 more extra ones. Currently edging back pretty close to the highest weight I've ever been. I know part of it is my thyroid levels are all off again. Was supposed to see my doctor for my yearly well visit on the 20th but ended up sick instead. Will call her next week to reschedule and get my lab work done. I've mostly come out of the depression which has helped.
Most of the weight I gained showed up in my arms and now most of shirts are uncomfortable because the arms are too tight. I've always been able to hide my weight pretty well with my clothes. People are shocked when they find out how much I really weigh. But ever since November my weight has become visually obvious. I finally broke down and bought a few new winter tops that feel better on my arms and hide the fat again. I refuse to buy new pants though so. Good fitting pants are impossible for me to find and are usually expensive so I can't go any higher than I am and need to start losing.
Now that we have DS under control I am hoping to have time to start using the treadmill we bought last spring. I would love to start eating healthier but time for meal prep is extremely limited. I am going to try and cut back on the sugary drinks again. Once my thyroid is back under control again it will be time to eliminate caffeine again. I had been doing so well without it but now I need my morning Coke to get me going and keep me functioning.
So goals for the next few weeks are to use the treadmill several times a week even if only 10 minutes and cut back to 2 cans of pop total a day (one caffeinated in the morning and a decaf at dinner). Baby steps.

I would also want to know how that ideal weight number was calculated. I agree with what you are saying above. I think being within those last 10 lbs and in a technically healthy range is just fine, and much better psychologically on the dieter than trying to make it to quoted number. I think what I was referring to in general was that we try to make it to a healthy range number and not shoot ourselves in the foot by thinking to ourselves "Oh, that's just impossible, I'll never get there", and instead settle for a weight 30 lbs or more from the goal weight. We're so used to seeing so many others at an unhealthy weight that when confronted with a healthy target goal weight it can look and sound impossible.

I started last year over 220. I am now hovering around 180 with at least 40 more lbs to go.
This week my friend and I are planning on doing some form of exercise each day except Sunday. We are doing yoga, kettleball class, or walking each day.
Tomorrow I am going to make my menu for the week.

Since I’m the one that brought up “ideal weight” here’s my situation. Maybe putting it out there will help me.
I’m older, a very senior citizen. I am 5’1” (I’m sure I’m probably closer to 5’ now). I’m a Type 2 diabetic. When I started seeing my current D.O., I weighed 167 lbs. In January of 2021, my A1c, morning blood sugar levels and weight were far too high. I also have several other health conditions that I take medications for. My dr changed my medicines, including a new diabetic med that helps with appetite control. I also started eating a diabetic 1200 calories a day diet, given to me by a registered dietitian, religiously recording everything I ate and drank. I’ve been very compliant, with adhering to the diet and medications as directed by my doctor, but the last few months I admit I’ve been more than a little lax in adhering to my diet.
As of today, I weigh 116 lbs. I wear a size 10 jeans, a medium top. I carry most of my weight in my stomach area. I have lost 51 lbs (30% of my original body weight.)
My doctor recommended ideal weight is 105 lbs. So I have 11 more lbs to go.
I appreciate everyone’s input. It really helps with keeping things in perspective. I have decided I’m going to concentrate more on fitness.I had to stop taking my arthritis medicine for my knees because of my liver. So I think I’m going to get back to my treadmill and slow walking. I’m hoping that will help with my knees and maybe losing just a little weight. I’m hoping I might be able to lose 3-5 lbs by the time I see my doctor in February.
I hope we all have a fresh start with the new year!

I currently weight 118 but I prefer to be closer to 110. I started lifting weights this fall and I know I have lost body fat and gained muscle mass from my gym measurement program, so I am ok with the weight.

I’m jumping in.
Received my new fit bit inspire yesterday, in time for New Years. Should have been here before Christmas.
It’s been bitterly cold here, and the extreme cold warning lifted today.
I just need to do it now.

Joining in…I’ve been feeling so uncomfortable in my skin… goal for this week is just to be more mindful of what I’m eating and start sneaking in exercise.

I decided after Christmas to get back to low carb. I am not a keto fan so I don't cut carbs to that degree, but I know for me personally I feel so much better when I eat low carb and higher fat and protein. I have lost 2 pounds this week just by cutting back. I aim for around 100g of carbs per day

I hope we all have a fresh start with the new year! I’m just under 5’. I don’t know how much I weighed when I was in high school, but I know when I was in 6th grade I weighed 110 (they weighed us at school). In college I weighed about the same, but started to fluctuate a bit at that time. At one point I got to about 100 (I had three active jobs and no car). People said I was too thin. When I was married I was 118. I felt better when I was under 120. I am currently 160 but wear the same size clothes as you, depending on the brand. It takes me forever to lose weight now and I get discouraged easily. I’m trying to focus on healthy habits and not just the weight. But ultimately I would like to be under 130. I don’t think your 116 is heavy at all, and is well within the normal weight range for your height. But I would focus more on building muscle because maybe your body fat % is higher? That is common as we age. That might not make a huge difference in your weight but will affect your body composition.

I keep seeing that to really lose weight, some strength training should be incorporated, not just cardio. Does anyone have a program to get started with that? We have a home gym with a rower, weight machine (not bowflex but similar) and hand weights. I HATE strength training, I find it sooooooooooooooooooooooo boring.

You might want to try doing a circuit where you do an exercise for a certain number of seconds, then rest for a short bit, then move to another exercise. The variety and change ups might keep you more motivated. For example, this circuit for upper body is 30 seconds each and you do it for 3 rounds. But since I have no idea when that will be, I will def look up those people you suggested on youtube and get started! Thank you! =)

So in 2019 I had a goal to get healthy before I turned 50 - besides my health, my family history is rife with heart attacks, strokes, blood pressure. DNA is not my friend. Anyways I did great. I started slow and focused on exercise and health rather than dieting. I got in the best health since my early twenties (and lost 30 pounds without truly dieting). I was going to the gym 3+ times a week, taking spinning and weight training classes. I felt great. Then the GD pandemic hit and all my routines were lost. I completely fell apart.
So now I have to start all over again, which is depressing but I'm telling myself I did it once so I can do it again. This year my goal is to get in good enough shape to do a 50km bike event in the fall, to do the 52 hike challenge, and to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol.
I signed up for a bunch of classes - pilates, strength training, and zumba plus pickleball, but I have a feeling the community centres are about to close down due to omicron. So for now I'm focusing on peloton and going on a hike a week. I'm researching how to reduce blood pressure and actually measure my daily salt. Later in the year I may take up the mantle of intuitive eating, but for now just less salt, less butter and more vegetables.

At the new year last year I began exercising walking and eating healthier and lost 15 lbs. I will be 73 this month, have well controlled T2 and lowered kidney function. Both my family doc and nephrologist are happy with my weight loss and I have gotten off one of my night diabetic drugs.
During the holidays, I gained 2 lbs but that should come off fairly easily. My goal for this year is to get back with the program that worked for me, lose some more weight and get off my meds entirely.
We can do this!

Today I am back on track.
I went to my 5:00 a.m. workout at the gym.
I am tracking all of my food. Everything that goes in my mouth!
I need to work on meal planning. I am going to have a purple carrot meal for dinner tonight.

This thread made me laugh as I just got done resetting my Fitbit to get back on track. I don’t need to lose weight but Covid has turned me into a recluse. So my plan is to walk outside once a day. I zthink the fresh air will be good for my depression.

I'm back on the bandwagon today. I'm tracking my food and keeping carbs at below 50 a day. 1200 calories a day. Strength training three times a week, 30 minutes of cardio moves three times a week. Six days a week of walking. Drinking a gallon of water per day.
I just want to be healthier but not neurotic about it. I'm one of those people who does best with creating a plan and then sticking to it religiously. My weakness is when it stops working and I give up. That's going to be the challenge for me.

I pre-tracked my food last night and have done well with my food for the day so far. I have not exercised, though. I got a spin bike last week and honestly have been kind of avoiding it. I think I'm a little scared of it. I also have been really stiff and sore from cleaning and painting this weekend. Saturday we took the Christmas decorations down and when putting stuff back in the crawl space, I ended up purging a lot of other things that were in there. So that meant crawling in and out a lot of times and going up and down stairs. I didn't sit down all day. Yesterday I intended to finish cleaning up from that and do general cleaning, but DS wanted to paint his room. He brought it up Saturday and I said "not today" and then Sunday he said that he had started prepping his room so I decided to just go with it. We thought we could use some paint we already had but he decided it wasn't the right color so had to go back and forth to the store a few times. We did finish it last night and it looks good (and is probably one of those things that if I tried to schedule it, it wouldn't be a priority and not get done). But now I feel like I have a lot of other things that didn't get done so am trying to deal with that.
I think it is interesting that there are three of us around the same height that wear the same size but are very different weights. I will say, though, that I can tell a difference in how my clothes fit now compared to when I lost and then re-gained the 15lbs. I am pretty frustrated that I gained it back again but am trying not to focus on that.

I will say, though, that I can tell a difference in how my clothes fit now compared to when I lost and then re-gained the 15lbs. I am pretty frustrated that I gained it back again but am trying not to focus on that. Isn’t that fascinating! Maybe that’s where “frame size” comes in to play? I need to find one of those online calculators that’s tells you if your small/med/large framed. That would certainly impact clothing size. I always thought of myself being just regular/medium framed. My bra band size is 32”, but my cup is a G, so that may be why a need a medium top. Plus, all of my abdominal weight is in a bad place for a diabetic to carry weight, another reason to lose those extra 10 lbs. My Dr told me core strengthening is the best way to lose that weight. I really need to look into what exercises would work for me.

I love them. I’ve only done 100 Morning Meltdown, 21 Day Fit, Lift 4 and Muscle Burns Fat. So far 100 MM and Lift 4 are the favourites.
