For those who read a lot of books, how much time do you spend reading per day? I will often binge read a book in a few days, but then end up neglecting other things because I am engrossed in the book. Then I go a few weeks before getting into another one. I am curious about people's reading habits--when you read, how long you read at a time, do you work, how many kids/activities, etc. I listen to audiobooks while on the treadmill (30-60 minutes a day) or sometimes in the car. I bring a book everywhere. I read an entire book when I had four days of jury duty in November... there was a lot of downtime. in the carpool line at school(s) when waiting for my kids. at my kid's sports events: there's really nothing to do at cross country meets except the first and last five minutes and they are 3+ hours long... during the day in between cleaning stuff, or during cleaning stuff, if I have an audiobook going and I'm not vacuuming... when the family is watching TV or a movie I'm not interested in... I don't work, but have four kids in various ages/grades/activities and I volunteer at their schools (or I did pre-COVID.)

I read 97, my goal was 100. Last year I read 112! I have always been a big reader, but I listen to a lot of audio books now. I listen while I walk or bike, quilt, clean, longer drives -- clearly I listen a lot. I think I'm down from last year because I've watched a few movies and tv series while I quilt this year.
Happy reading everyone!

My Goodreads goal was 18 and I read 21. The last book I read was in May. I went on vacation in June and in July life happened in some pretty big ways. I never got back to reading this year. I'm both surprised and happy to see that I still finished ahead of my goal (which I don't remember making). Hopefully 2022 will be another big reading year for me. 2021 started out that way.

For those who read a lot of books, how much time do you spend reading per day? Most days it's just about 45 minutes before bed. Some days, about 30-45 on the treadmill. On days I go to the gym, 10-15 minutes on the bicycle.

For those of you who do the good reads challenge - I can’t figure out how to access my end of year graphic - do you know what I’m talking about? I got an email about it but when I click on it (or my challenge from within the app) I don’t see the neat graphic they always do - it is just my list of books. Ideas?

I can "read" while doing other things. Most of my reading is done through the kindle app on my phone. I do lots of reading in the margins of life. While I'm eating. While I'm sitting in my car waiting for them to bring out my grocery order. For a few minutes in bed before I fall asleep. While I'm waiting for the shower to warm up. (I had to start setting a timer here because I'd get sucked into my reading and use up all the hot water before my shower started. DH wasn't pleased getting into the shower after me.) Occasionally I'll sit on the couch for an hour and read, but that's rare.

I’m at 52, which was my goal, but about six of those were short stories that Goodreads counts as a whole book. I’ve had years when I hit 100, and my yearly numbers go up or down depending on how much crafting I’m doing (or in the case of this year, playing Animal Crossing.) I read every single day…I can’t go to sleep at night without reading, and I always bring something to read whenever I have to wait anywhere.

For 2022, I set up a few blank pages in the back of my planner to be a running log, so I don't have to flip from month to month to see. I might even include if it's a physical book, ebook or audio book this time.

I am such a slow reader, and can only read before bed when not wearing contacts. I can't see close up with contacts. So it usually takes me 1-3 weeks to read a book. The only time I read a lot is at the beach. I love to read, and wish I was a faster reader. I read 20=30 books a year.

Look in the settings—I think they are in your Kindle, not Goodreads.

I read 66 books this year. The longest book I read was 960 pages and the shortest was 152. My average book length for this year was 360 pages.
It's the lowest number in total books read in the past 4 years (I usually average around 80 books) but I'm okay with it. I started keeping track of the books I read on goodreads.com in 2015. I only wish I'd found this site sooner. It's been so wonderful for me to list the books I read after I finish them-often I'll forget what books I've read after a time and this has been very helpful to keep track of them. I used to set myself a goal for reading each year (a specific number) but 2 years ago realized it was taking some of the joy out of reading for me. I'm such a perfectionist that I'd get too focused on that goal number. I enjoy much more not setting a goal and just reading for pleasure.
I have adored reading since the moment my brain made the first connection between the letters on the page and a word. I still remember the time it happened so vividly. All of a sudden I made the connection (we were reading the Dick and Jane books in 1st grade-this was also the year I learned to speak English), and it was as if true magic had happened. I was so excited I ran home from school to tell my mother. Both of my parents are avid readers and read to us children each night before bed. Since that day I adore reading and read every single day. I can't go a day without reading. My favorite reading time is at night in bed before falling asleep, but I've been known to read anywhere and everywhere. I still haven't tried audio books (although my father loved them when he used to commute to work) and prefer good old fashioned paper books.
I'm extremely blessed to have an incredible public library where I live and 99% of the books I read each year are ones I've borrowed from this library. They get in new books very quickly and I have access to other book's libraries within Maryland through their interloan system-I use that a lot.
As far as reading time-my son is grown, I have no grandchildren and I haven't worked full time in several years due to my health (chronic migraines). I'm at the point now in regards to my health that I could go back to work but I'm also 61. The last job I had was as a wedding photographer back in the film days when I owned my own business. I'd rather not go back to that still having the migraines I do have each month. So yeah, I do have more time than most to read, but I think it really depends on what we decide to make time for. Reading is a true joy to me and I make time for it. But I also have other hobbies and duties around the house that call my attention and time too.

I think what you are looking for is found under the Your Reading Activity section. (Found in left hand column after selecting My Books.) Under Your Reading Activity is the Reading Challenge, Year in Books and Reading Stats.

Basket1lady I have the same problem. I just counted my “read” list and it is 27. But my reading challenge says 23. Not sure why.

I read 145 this year. I have been keeping track since 1991 and that is my highest count. The fewest I have read in those 30 years is 91.

I hit 100 books today. My goal was 65. I’m stunned I read that much - it’s my 4th highest year. 176 and 144 are my peaks - the years I nursed (and pumped!)
I had a very low reading year in 2020 - the low level funk I was in didn’t lend itself to my usual genres. So I switched things up for ‘21 and got off to a great start, but ground to a halt after my father’s death.
I stopped using Goodreads after Amazon bought it (I had been an active volunteer librarian). I returned to it this fall and uploaded all the ebook history I’d been tracking in Calibre. I’m missing some physical books.
I read everywhere - and I do 95% ebooks. And I’ve generally got 2-4 books going. I read a middle grade out loud to my youngest most nights, and generally have a non fiction book always going. Then I binge a fiction book, often late into the night.
I work a full time demanding job and have a social DH, and a tween and teen. But my leisure time is mostly reading books, reading the news, some YouTube and historical drama, with a dash of crafting.

Let me take a moment to HIGHLY recommend Stephen Fry’s narration of the collection of Sherlock Holmes works. It is 65 hours long (yet only 1 Audible credit) and positively captivating. And Fry shares his history being a Sherlock Holmes fanatic since he was 9 y.o. He is a brilliant narrator and this collection is positively wonderful. Not a second of boredom or wishing I was listening to something else.
So, while this counted as only 1 book “read” for me this year, I think it is an additional 20 or so.
It is fascinating to see that Conan Doyle did portray Holmes as a cocaine user/addict (he injected it) and appears to be bipolar. I always thought that Benedict Cumberbatch took liberties with the character when he played him, but that was how Doyle wrote the character.

I read about 2 books a week. More if they are short. I read every night, usually for 2-3 hours. It’s my sweet, sweet treat at the end of the day, and my education on history or science, or my chance to learn about fascinating people, or my complete escape into a fluffy world where the biggest tragedy is not being invited to the ball.
I’m so excited to start a new book, or google everything possible on the subject of the last book that I do nothing to record and count.
I do feel guilty that I don’t post more reviews on the reading thread weekly.
