Something I've always wondered about, is why people set goals for how many books they want to read. Doesn't that almost make it into a chore? Especially of you're getting towards the end of the year and realise you're still 10 books off your goal. Do you feel the need to race through books just so you meet your goal? Yes, but the 11 other months of the year it motivates me to pick up a book instead of watching TV or playing games on my phone... That makes some sense I guess, especially for people who value reading over TV, or who think TV is mindless drivel. I love reading, and can't go to bed without reading at least one chapter. But to be honest I would prefer to spend two hours watching one of my favourite TV shows than spend two hours reading.

I have no idea how many books I've read this year. I don't keep track. Most of my reading is done at night in bed. I go to bed quite late, so I often only read one chapter before my eyes start falling out of my head. Something I've always wondered about, is why people set goals for how many books they want to read. Doesn't that almost make it into a chore? Especially of you're getting towards the end of the year and realise you're still 10 books off your goal. Do you feel the need to race through books just so you meet your goal? I don’t feel any pressure at all. Last year I didn’t reach my goal and this year I did. For me it’s more of a way to keep track of all the books I read in the year and get a list at the end.
