I need to relearn Stitcher for Podcasts as I'd switched to Spotify. Unless someone has non-Apple, non-Amazon podcast recs? Castbox or overcast. Thanks

Iâve never had a Spotify account (Iâm happy to give all my money to Apple!) but Iâm pretty sure now that I never will. Iâm also slightly embarrassed to admit that I donât know who Neil Young is, although I will google him right after I post this, but I admire him for taking a stand. Also, fuck Rogan. ETA: I donât recognize any of his songs by title, and Iâm laying in bed next to my sleeping husband so I canât listen to them right now. Iâll check it out tomorrow. Hands down the best concert I ever attended was Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Give a listen. I know you'll recognize some of his songs. When did you see them? I thought they stopped touring as a foursome in the early 70's? I know I wore out my copy of CSN back in high school

We have a Spotify family account that 3/4 of us use daily. You can transfer playlists to other platforms so Iâm going to cancel. My dad had polio and I admire Neil and Joni taking a stand. Itâs been building for me and come to a tipping point, the way Spotify has let Rogan be the star of the platform, itâs not just the COVID, itâs so many lies, racism, misogyny that he pedals. I have no delusions, I know there are few clean businesses but I can do my best and make the choices where Iâm able. I donât buy hate chicken or craft supplies and Iâm going to dump Spotify. Bingo. And why my goal this weekend is to get myself a new music streaming service. I listen(ed) to (paid) Spotify for hours a day. I would prefer not to give Amazon my money whenever possible. So it's Apple, or Deezer, or someone else...

We have a family account and we all use it every day. Weâre checking into alternatives. I donât think Spotify really cares about Neil Young and Joni Mitchell pulling their music. I think it will take someone much bigger and current pulling their music to get their attention. Where's Taylor Swift (or similar) on this? While I don't really know her or her music, isn't she fairly vocal about things like this? Or am I making stuff up?

For me, it came down to the $100M they paid him for exclusivity. Youâre right, itâs pretty hard to find any corporation without flaws, somewhere. Apple carries Steve Bannons war room pandremic podcast (they all do), and I wish they didnât. The difference is for me theyâre not actively paying him out of their own pockets, and actively incentivizing his platform on there. By paying for exclusivity Spotify has made him effectively bulletproof in doing so, and that I wonât support financially. Under their own stated rules (and actions) they shouldâve removed a ton of his guests content on there, and they havenât. I follow this science podcast, and they are often getting posts removed on Facebook lately when they address his guests content debunking them point by point. Not for debunking, but because in order to debunk, the post the misinformation first, then they debunk it. They get reported by his listeners all the time, because theyâve figured out how to make facebooks moderation work for them to get stuff challenging him, taken down. As I was reading more about this last night, that really stuck out to me as well as the amount of influence that podcast has with 11M listeners per episode. Dude has a 100M contract with Spotify. It is the collective us that pays that contract. OUR MONEY. I'm not going to support that, especially since there are other alternatives.

She doesn't have control of most of her music and has been rerecording older albums to get some back, IIRC. Crosby made a statement about not owning his music so he can't remove it either. I've heard Dave Grohl is pulling from Spotify, too. Brene Brown has announced she won't be releasing any new podcasts.

I haven't used Spotify in quite a few years since I switched to Apple Music, but I would have unsubscribed over this.

Heâs the one who gave Aaron Rodgers all his âmedicalâ advice about COVID vaccination. Hence, Rodgersâ nickname âThrow Rogan.â eta: I am happy that Iâve been an Apple Music person for years. One subscription covers the whole family. My playlists are extensive and they have everything.

crosby stills nash and young will never reunite. none of them are talking to crosby anymore.. he burned a few too many bridges.
but one of my favs of their music was their first performance together.. woodstock. first performance.. and they did it in front of 500,000 people.
neil young is a bit of an oddball. but he does have some great music.

I saw them twice. One time music was, of course, good but performance was off. Other time it was sooo much better as they clicked and were so in sync and obviously having fun. I didn't keep up with their personal rifts between them but later read something that seemed to explain the difference in shows. One of Crosby's off the rails episodes was between the two. Cleared that up for me after the fact.

No idea why. Iâd like to think they werenât doing well in this blue part of the city đ. There are still plenty of them further out. And our Chick Fil A consistently has a long line wrapped around it, so âŠ

He promoted ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine among other things. He supposedly had covid and treated himself. My Dh is a nurse practitioner in family practice. Of all of the patients that he has conversations with about the vaccine to persuade them to get it, half listen to Joe Rogan, regrettably.

Interesting article on the controversy. Here are the parts that stood out to me. www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2022/01/spotify-neil-young-joe-rogan/621396/On Monday, Rolling Stone reported that the 76-year-old rock titan Neil Young sent a letter telling his management team and record label that Spotify would have to choose between hosting his music and hosting the hugely popular podcast The Joe Rogan Experience. Youngâs letter was inspired by another letter, signed by 270 scientists, doctors, and other health professionals earlier in January. It alleged that Rogan had broadcast inaccuracies about COVID-19, including by hosting guests who plugged ivermectin as an effective treatment and by portraying vaccines as unnecessary for young people. (Rogan has said that he is ânot an anti-vaxx person.â) Spotify, Young wrote, could âhave Rogan or Young. Not both.â Whatâs more, the company now finds itself where few companies intend to be: as a figure in the culture wars. For years, musicians have spoken out about Spotifyâs technology and business practices, but those complaints have rarely reached the level of visibility that Youngâs now have. That is surely because Young is taking a stand on the highly politicized issues of vaccine skepticism, leading conservative commentators to defend Rogan with familiar rhetoric about cancel culture. Competing hashtags such as #SpotifyDeleted and #ThanksJoeRogan are now trending.
Perhaps this is the start of a movement. Last night, Youngâs legendary pal Joni Mitchell announced that she, too, wanted to secede from Spotify âin solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities.â The withdrawal of two of the most important living musicians obviously dents the companyâs value proposition, but the bigger impact may simply be that an alarm has been sounded. Spotify faces strong competition for capturing the worldâs eardrums, and Apple, Amazon, Tidal, Bandcamp, and the local record store can make a new pitch: Spend your dollars on music, not on dangerous nonsense.

I like Youngâs statement here www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2022/01/30/spotify-protest-nils-lofgren-neil-young-joe-rogan/Young in a statement posted to his website on Wednesday said he âfirst learnedâ of the prevalence of misinformation around the pandemic on Spotify âby reading that 200 plus doctors had joined forces, taking on the dangerous life-threatening COVID falsehoods found in SPOTIFY programming,â âI am happy and proud to stand in solidarity with the front line health care workers who risk their lives every day to help others,â he wrote on Friday.[/b]

I knew nothing about this until Brene Brown posted and then I had to figure out what was going on.
I think the part that really gets me is that he has a lucrative contract with Spotify. Itâs one thing to allow freedom of speech, itâs another thing to enable and reward someone for spreading misinformation. Itâs gross.
