A good Samaritan was able to open the taped door and put out the fire. There have over 450 arrests in Ottawa related to the demstrations. That is so beyond crazy. That could have been mass murder. I’m glad it was put out but what about the next time. I can’t imagine being able to sleep until they were gone knowing that some of them were willing to do something so extreme. What does anti vax have to do with an apartment building full of innocent people. |

Apparently those dirtbags are starting to head through New England to DC. I’m like why? There is no govt mandate for trucker to have vaccines here. Hell 90% of them are self employed.
On the up side I did see a post from someone local that named 2 towing companies willing to help the truckers. I’m calling AAA to let them know and I posted that they will no longer get my business. If I need a tow and AAA says one of the 2 companies will send them out, I’ll be like send someone else. They will not get my money.

The social fracture is beyond shocking. This is stuff from police procedurial TV series à la Criminal Minds. It takes reaching a level of dehumanised consideration of fellow citizens and innocent people to plan and execute this. These people are a danger to society, period.

We don’t have very many Canadian truckers come this far down in New England. I can’t find any info on the CDC website about driving, only with and cruise travel. |

The whole thing started with some unvaccinated truckers upset at the border crossing new rule - both coming into Canada and going into the US - truckers need to be fully vaccinated. And we have nothing to do with the US rule - that is on the US administration. But it sparked the start of the convoy. |

They are hoping that if the Canadian government backs down on the mandate then that might sway the US government to also change their minds. So it's 2 federal governments that need to change. The part of the convoy that IS about the truckers vaccine.

I mean, I can see how you’d be embarrassed about this whole thing. One side demonstrates in protest of racial killings at the hands of cops. The other side protests because big strong truckers don’t wanna get a scary shot. Pretty sad. I’d be mortified, too. I mean, technically, at the very start, that was the issue - truckers taking issue with the vaccination mandate. Didn't agree with them then, don't agree with their cause now. But it has morphed into being overrun with many wanting to oust the current government and end all mandates across the country. And you can bet your bippy that if this convoy was made up of Indigenous peoples occupying the capitol to push for actual clean drinking water in their reservations, there would absolutely be a larger police presence. It is embarrassing and I can't believe how many people I thought were friends are all in support of this. I want mandates to end too - but when parts of the convoy are people carrying Nazi flags & defacing statues & the unknown soldier monument - and they still support the movement? If even just one small part of the group are white supremacists and the rest don't kick them out? They are all lumped into that category for me. A local (ok about 40 minutes from me) black woman who is a Black Ethiopian queer Anti-Racism Coach, Consultant & Trainer specializing in anti-Black racism spoke out about the same issue - she's getting all kinds of death threats and horrible messages sent to her social media. She had to close her yoga studio for a week to feel safe. But ya, it's "just a handful" |

There was/is a major difference between protesters vs rioters. Protesters are legitimate. Rioters are illegal. I've never said any different!
And yes, some protesters can become rioters subject to arrest/punishment.

You're definitely out of the loop on that one. It is not peaceful. Demonstrators harassed a soup kitchen demanding free food. They have been harassing ordinary citizens out walking about with a mask on. They have defaced the Terry Fox statue and the Unknown Soldier memorial. And just this week some tried to start a fire in an apartment building and tape the doors shut. I don't give a shit what people say about masks and whether they work or not - it is hurting NOBODY for a person to be out and about in a crowd, trying to get to work, to wear a mask. NO reason at all to harass them and threaten them. So what if mandates will end in a few months - we still have them now. This has gone far beyond the original intent of some truckers out west starting the convoy because of a border restriction imposed by both the Canadian and US administrations. White supremacists are a huge part of this group and if the death threats and hate mail through social media from "convoy supporters" to a local yoga studio owner who dared to publicly state this are any indication of the kind of people involved in this convoy, I want no part of it. And we are not talking one or two - she received hundreds of messages and had to close to keep herself safe. Don't believe me? Check out SelamDebs on Instagram. She's posted it all there. Yep - that says peaceful to me. |
