We all have those nights when we don't want to cook, and everyone in the household is on their own for dinner, whether that means make a sandwich, bowl of cereal, whatever.
Does your household have a name for that kind of meal?
We used to call it "eat whatever doesn't run away from you", but have recently transitioned to a new name.
One of our cats has a habit of eating every bit of lint, fluff, what have you that he finds laying on the floor. DH is constantly scolding him "Stop eating crap off the floor!" and one night when I didn't know what to make for dinner when DH asked about it, I said I was going to serve crap off the floor and the name has stuck.
So for dinner last night, I had leftovers and DH had crap off the floor. He made a sandwich.

We call it a fend for yourself night.
DH & DS will eat leftovers. If I'm "meh" about the leftovers, I'm always happy with a personal charcuterie/cheese/fruit plate. If DD is around and not interested in leftovers, she makes a quesadilla or panini.

It's called "Cook's Night Off," & it's every Sunday. It started when DH used to visit his parents on Sundays, and they'd feed him all the junk that I won't keep in the house. His parents have passed on, but the cook is still entitled to a night off, in the cook's opinion. Oh, & he's started buying all that junk himself, which he doesn't limit to enjoying once a week, & he's become morbidly obese as a result. It's a worry.

"Catch as catch can."
Such as "it's catch as catch can tonight."
Absolutely no clue where it came from.

Fend for yourself if leftovers or whatever you want to throw together from the fridge. If I’m trying to clear the freezer out I call it frozen food fiesta.

We never really had a name for it. When we were first married, it was ‘where will we go for dinner’ night, usually on Fridays. After kids, DH or i nearly always cooked a meal, though we sometimes had takeout. As the boys got older, they were sometimes told they had to organise their own dinner if DH and I were going out without them. Often, they would ‘find a friend’ and invite themselves to dinner there. Now it’s just the two of us (and sometimes just me), but still one of us cooks most days. There are weeks like this week, where DH is not going to be home for dinner on two nights, where we have deliberately made enough food on a couple of nights that I will have leftovers to eat on those nights. We also plan to eat out ever couple of weeks, but that is often done in advance, not spur of the moment.

Like many others we call it fend for yourself. My go to is usually Bacon Ritz crackers and cheese or butter and noodles,, my husband is what ever packaged noodle option he keeps in his office room.
