We... don't do that? lol If I don't feel like cooking (and believe me, no one wants to eat DH's cooking), I either reheat leftovers and we all still sit down for dinner or we go out to eat. we also don’t do this - if everyone is home at least. The only time we “cancel dinner” is if everyone is out doing their own thing - I’m the only one who doesn’t really need dinner. If everyone is home and there is no dinner food we order takeout or delivery. Eta - we also don’t typically have much snack food in house - so people would be pretty hungry lol.

Take out - we’re just not a big leftover family, so If no one wasn’t cook it’s pretty much take out or starve

The Hunger Games. Whoever calls it first gets their choice. You snooze, you lose. I've never seen The Hunger Games, but I like this one best so far

Our leftovers usually go pretty fast, so if I decide not to cook, it's called "DIY".

I am cracking up at some of these! We don't have a fun NAME for it, but I might start using some from this thread. "eat whatever doesn't run away from you" LOL I said I was going to serve crap off the floor and the name has stuck. Hilarious! This is my fave! So unique! Love it ! If I’m trying to clear the freezer out I call it frozen food fiesta. throwing myself across the sofa dramatically and declaring an "I Can't!" night. As in I can't bear the thought of planning or prepping food and I have lost all ability to feed anyone. Love it! "Mama isn't cooking tonight... go kill your own buffalo!"LOL! Sometimes I'll tell DD or DH to go find the wooly mammoth, meaning there's no leftovers in the fridge LOL! We are having Getchoroni (Get-Your-Own-y) 😆😉 Cute!

We call it Dad's turn to cook because he usually orders pizza for himself and the kids and I forage for something else. Don't think I am being healthy or anything, I just cannot eat the pizza.

We call it “Everyman”, as in “Every man for himself”. For whatever reason we’ve always pronounced it/written it as one word.

We have always called it 'pick up'. Both when I was little and now.

We all have those nights when we don't want to cook, and everyone in the household is on their own for dinner, whether that means make a sandwich, bowl of cereal, whatever. Does your household have a name for that kind of meal? We used to call it "eat whatever doesn't run away from you", but have recently transitioned to a new name. One of our cats has a habit of eating every bit of lint, fluff, what have you that he finds laying on the floor. DH is constantly scolding him "Stop eating crap off the floor!" and one night when I didn't know what to make for dinner when DH asked about it, I said I was going to serve crap off the floor and the name has stuck. So for dinner last night, I had leftovers and DH had crap off the floor. He made a sandwich. We call it DIY night, but I like crap off the floor! Too funny!

We call it "kid's choice" since that's when I started doing it when they were little. They used to be thrilled with it, now, as college students, not so much. I guess my cooking is better than what they can find in the pantry or freezer after all.

Around my house it doesn’t really have a name but usually it starts with…is there a dinner plan? Or is anyone cooking? There are 3 adults and one 6 year old, who would be happy with ramen or a grilled cheese.

We'd call it "you're on your own." Often on weekends I'd clear out the refrigerator of leftovers, put them out on the kitchen island with a stack of plates and call it "smorgasbord." You'd build your own plate and zap it in the microwave.

We also call it fend for yourself. Last night, I had buttered saltine crackers and some leftover coleslaw. DH had cereal and toast.

That is what we called it.
When the kids were all home and younger, I used to have a weekly meal plan. Fend for yourself was one of those days.
