I'm sure this is a side effect of my crappy menopausal irritation level being at an all time high. But I'm going to vent big time.
And I'm sure I'll be told "if you don't like it just scroll on by" but when the thread title is something simple & seemingly an innocent question, I open it because maybe I can help.
And my foul mouth is about to come out....
But holy fuck - I'm SO sick of all the fucking arguing going on around here!!!
Every thread seems to turn into an argument. Somebody asked about trip advice - and that turned into a fucking argue fest. TRIP ADVICE!
What the hell?
This used to be my happy place - a place to learn things from other Peas and laugh at silly things and support those who needed it.
But now even a simple thread title that seems innocent enough turns in to a fucking argument.
We are all coming off 2 years of lockdowns and stress and stupid crappiness all around.
Can we not take it out on each other? Please?
Vent over.

I so agree. I’ve started to limit my time here because I think people are really stressed out, tired of Covid, and we all know that there’s issues in every states not just Florida.

I have my days when the only thing I read is the Dinner thread, the Craft thread and the scrapbook board. It's called self-care.
No but seriously I think people are having covid fatigue, all these social issues going on in our country right now are frightening, now we are watching a war happen. I'm the begining days of the pandemic, I didn't read anything except crafts and dinner because I just couldn't handle all the anxiety and fighting.
Right now, I'm allowing myself to read the news for 1/2 hr each morning. And then I allow myself to scroll peas for 1/2 hour outside of the scrapbook board, dinner thread, and craft thread.

I find I am spending way less time here. I would like the politics to have their own group. Those threads are not friendly or educational. It’s all bashing especially if you have your own thoughts and try to share them. Travel advice should be just that. Stay to the topic or create your own thread!

Yes, I have noticed an increase of bickering lately also, here and everywhere else. I think it's a sign of the stress that we'll all under and that's just how it comes out in some people. Personally I won't let it keep me from coming here because I enjoy this board. I just stop reading if a thread starts to deteriorate like the Clearwater, FL one did. There are plenty of other threads to read, even the ones that are clearly politics. If I open a political thread I expect arguing, and when those start to get repetitive I just stop reading. If I open another random thread -- like the Clearwater one or anything else non-political and it goes south then I just stop reading. I read other threads and enjoy the discussions, information, support, etc.

Here's the thing, we've had an extended period of time here where a small group has been allowed - either by ignoring, or silently agreeing - to being abusive and rude at the drop of a hat. The tone here has greatly diminished as we allow certain posters to call others crude and disgusting names - all in the fight to be right. And by right, I mean "democrat". There's no room for debate or discussion, and that is certainly proven by the fact that an innocent request for TRAVEL INFORMATION for god's sake bring two of the most heinous offenders into the fray within a couple of posts to demean the OP for her request. Yeah. We're not arguing more, we're being baited more. Its borderline abusive, if you think about it. Make a separate politics board, I guess that would help. Or perhaps not.

Agree. I mostly stay in the Animal Crossing thread but when that thread is a bit quiet I venture out and am shocked at some of the posts I’m reading.
Why am I shocked though, so many of us, including irl are hair trigger angry, overly sensitive, highly anxious, absolutely fed up at the state of this world, now add in a horrific war and no wonder we have lost a lot of our grace and kindness.
Not an excuse though but I get it. And I feel like 2peas is a lot like home, at home in our safe place we may be a bit more honest or blunt than dealing with others we don’t know as well. We may gloss over our opinions but here they are pretty raw, unfiltered and often could be said in a more gentle manner. Maybe more would listen and reflect instead of what I’m seeing happen if more posts were written with a touch more kindness and empathy.

I see a thread about Clearwater recommendations and since I love Clearwater beach and Clearwater aquarium I open it. Few posts in and it turned political. Normally I roll my eyes at these posters but last night apparently was my tipping point. Earlier in the evening dh and I were watching the news. We watch CNN and then we switch to Fox News or vice versa because I want to get both sides of the news and then somewhere in the middle is the truth. So we heard comments from both Democrat and Republican senators and BOTH sides were pointing fingers, etc. I said to dh there is a serious crisis in Ukraine right now and they can’t even just focus on that situation and fixing it. Now is not the time for arguing it is a time to be united and to find solutions to help Ukraine. I then come here and an innocent vacation thread had turned political.

I was going to wait until the Reading thread tomorrow but I've just finished reading Hivemind: The New Science of Tribalism in our Divided World. And I think it should be required reading for anyone with strong political opinions on either side of the spectrum. Cavanagh is a psychologist who examines group think, positive and negative and gives us hope for how we can bridge some of the gap between us. I think it was a very interesting look into the phenomenon of people being so beholden to their hive, that they can't reach across and see where the other side is coming from.

Kind of what I was saying, right? We all just roll eyes and move on, and they become even more emboldened and hardened in their stance. Perhaps it's time to start holding our fellow members accountable rather than just scrolling on by. Or, quit griping that there's so much "arguing" going on. They're allowed to be bombastic and abusive because we as a group allow it to be so. Hell, we've got posters like Pinklady calling people "stupid twat" and "cunt" - and I'm the only one pointing it out as not conducive to the society here. Where is everyone else? If we don't like things around here, then we need to change things around here, not just say "stop arguing!" Doesn't work with our kids, and won't work with members here either. BTW I appreciated your insights on the travel thread - it's the beginning of highlighting the crap. Illumination is key to change.

And these type of arguments have chased a lot of long-term peas off the board. There's a lot fewer people here now. Right now you can still be on page one with comments from 13 hours ago. Remember when it would move so fast? Cannot believe how the travel post turned so bad (I did comment on it just answering the question/giving my opinion on Clearwater).

Yeah, I backed out of that thread fast.
I have no plans on traveling to Fl anytime soon. ( possibly for reasons similar to those peas stances ) But I’ve been in the past and there’s nice stuff to do. It was a travel advice thread, it was not the place for a political smack down. If I want to talk about Fl recent bullshit policies I’ll start a political thread not rudely jam my opinion into another thread where it has no place.
My Clearwater travel advice is 30 years old so I just left the thread since I had nothing positive to offer.

BTW I appreciated your insights on the travel thread - it's the beginning of highlighting the crap. Illumination is key to change. It really all comes down to your approach I feel. The questions of supporting Florida's economy given the most recent legislation is a valid question. As the mom of a transgender kid, I am very frightened for her given some of the most recent reactions. With that said, I am galvanized to step up my advocacy on legislation and step in to elections in my state where I feel I can do the most good. I can't police Florida and Texas. And despite my stake in the game, it wouldn't prevent me from a vacation there. It would prevent me from moving there though. But ultimately there's a way to say controversial things without alienating a nice pea like Kiki. That wasn't fair to her.

I see the irony of commenting on this thread when I lost my ever loving shit last week and derailed a few threads. In my defense, I was extremely ill and hopped up on some really fine drugs - I do try and be more measured in my responses typically and know when to let things go when clearly the discussion has become a big hot mess. There is some truth to kibblesandbits post, but disagree that papercrafteradvocate is one of the offenders for abusiveness. There's give and take there, really the hardest part for me as a reader of her posting style is coming back to a contentious thread after some time away and quoting like 10 things in a row. I get wanting to respond, but if you're not there for the back and forth, just read and respond in one post or two posts with a summary of your thoughts and responses (hey we're venting and it irritates me, I fully know you can do whatever you want). There are a couple much worse offenders who just fly into guns blazing and really the sad part is right now they can't even listen when they're posting inaccurate information as they're too busy being right and schooling someone. pinklady just relishes being the 2peas bitch and coming in cursing, so if you don't like that posting style, block her.

Why is it that everyone else read your post in a completely different way than you meant it? That's where we're going with this thread. I'm not interesting in arguing with you on a thread about arguing, lol. Clearly we will disagree.

As someone else said, there has been a lot of existential dread for a lot of people for a long time now, and people are reaching breaking points. We see it with the crazy videos online of people losing their shit in public over minor things. We see it in our IRL communities and we see it in our virtual communities.
I don’t know that there’s anything we can do to turn the tide here, but I do encourage everyone - myself included - to back out of threads that feel stressful to them, rather than injecting more negativity into their veins. Some days you may be down for a debate and some days may require only the reading or dinner thread or no 2 peas at all.
I do hope we can try not to give up on each other. This place can be messy as hell but a lot of us have been part of this community in one way or another for many years for a reason. This group can be pretty amazing. Sure, sometimes we may need to back away from messy family, but not forever. Take care of yourself as you need, that’s always the priority. Just remember this is a group of humans also going through a lot of shit and we don’t always present at our best. But that doesn’t mean we’re not still a community worth being a part of. This place has changed lives in ways big and small and I hope it continues to do so for years to come.

I'd much rather read this type of book on my Kindle because usually they don't come in large-print format for a regular book and often the font is too small. On the Kindle I can enlarge it. sigh...the perils of getting older.

The attitude that they spew it with is the problem. I don’t care what side you’re on, if you express your beliefs in that manner, you will not change my mind. When a post has absolutely nothing to do with you (not you, cakediva), if you want to read it, fine, be my guest, but if you have nothing constructive to add, or you can’t say something in a nice manner, move on. Your attitude determines whether or not I will listen to your side of things. If you’re going to be an ass, I can guarantee you I won’t see your side of things because I won’t even read it.

I am hardly here anymore. I saw this and wanted to read it. Totally agree. Its just not a happy place anymore. Even the dinner thread has gotten to be not happy. I check the scrapbook side 1 or 2 times a week and that is it. Your points are valid. Like jeremysgirl I check the news after I wake up to get some basic info and then I really try to not touch my phone other than for the 2 games I play. Trying to spend more time outside and off the internet. It has greatly helped me mood. Got a lot going on with ds and myself and 2 peas just isn't helping. Which is sad in a way as it has always been my go to for support. But even requesting that comes with issues now a days. I would highly suggest a break. Or limit how you access 2peas. It has done wonders for my spirit and soul. I learned that I can't be on all the time. I can't be fake happy and try to get along with every pea.

I do think it is funny that someone (NOT THE OP) who is extremely rude and bombastic in their own way is calling others out for the exact same behavior they dish out in the guide of standing up for what is right.
That being said, there are maybe 4 or 5 posters out of all the people here who derail threads and just argue amongst themselves. I personally find the ignore feature plenty useful and just utilize that and have found my time here much more pleasant. I understand that the ignore feature does not work if you peruse the board via the app or such, but I just use it regularly via my browser because the ignore feature is that important to me.
Regarding standing up to bullies and such, being a bully back isn't terribly effective and seems to only increase tension and lead to more endless arguments. There are plenty of peas who call out nastiness and stand up for people without ever turning nasty themselves and that usually ends up with a mea culpa from the pea who was being a bitch. Of course, some just double down and then triple down, but that is when the ignore or just scroll by comes in handy.
Honestly, I get tired of these threads turning into a "All the peas are so nasty and mean, what happened to this place" nonsense. I am sure if the people saying that actually sat down and wrote themselves a private list of the peas that are arguing and turning everything political the number would be under 10 for sure, and I bet it is closer to 5. (And two of them primarily only post in political threads)

EVERY state has its political issues just like it has its natural disasters. I am free to choose which state I feel comfortable dealing with their beliefs. I happen to live in a VERY conservative state, and have my whole life. Just because I don’t agree 100% with everything that goes on here doesn’t mean I can (or want to) get up and move. I will have to deal with crap everywhere I go. Trust me, I have a mix of everything in my family, and it is highly argued about everywhere. I will deal with it no matter where I go. You just have to be prepared to take it in if the subject arises.
