The joke was "Fresh Prints." Exactly. Don’t post a bad joke on a message board and then also not get it right 👎🏼

PSA: all attempts at humour and comedy have been cancelled for the foreseeable future.
We will await an official statement from Will & Jada Smith when they decide when it can resume. Don't hold your breath
Furthermore It's likely that people earning over $20 million per annum will be not be permitted to be included in any comedy routines...please adjust your celebrity snowflake ratings accordingly.

LOL I needed that! So much panty wadding here, sheesh! I don't think it's panties wadding up per say but more not finding being hit (and finger print marks) funny due to domestic violence.

I think given whom the joke was about makes it different. Obviously this joke would be crass and tasteless if it was after the Chris Brown and Rihanna fight. This is about 2 men.

I agree. And tasteless jokes after a shocking incident are normal and not a big deal IMO. Kinda help people blow off the steam etc.
I'm from the "Did you know Christa McAuliffe's eyes are blue?.." era though so what do I know, lol.

That joke is tasteless.
It is inexcusable that Will Smith was allowed to assault a comedian on stage live on tv.
The ONLY reasons he was not arrested/escorted out was because he is rich, famous and with that, powerful.
Does anyone here believe that if it was a stagehand or janitor who didn't like the joke, that they would have been treated the same if they came up and assaulted Chris Rock?I
No? But why not?
And why is violence and assault a-okay if it's one man hitting another?
Would it have been okay if Smith hit a female comedian in the face?
How about other types of assault? Okay if an actor sexually assaults another actor on stage? Okay if it's man on man assault only? What about a male actor grabbing a female comedian by the crotch? All good?
And we wonder why in America the rich, famous, and powerful can commit crimes in plain sight and get away with it.
Jokes normalize this.
It is not normal and not okay.

Was horrified like the rest of the world and I remember hearing and passing along that joke. This new situation in no way compares to that one but I agree with others that humor is a coping mechanism for lots of people.

But for many women the talk of DM and finger prints on one's face can certainly stringer emotions. Be glad that isn't you.

My question in this whole dustup ---
Why is being called GI Jane II that awful? Being compared to a totally beautiful, badass strong woman is not the worst thing that could be said about her. She is strong and beautiful - and I think really full of herself. Which would be normal for someone who is as successful and confident as she is.
If I had to go without hair, I would look like Curly from the Stooges. She looks amazing and she knows it.

While being called GI Jane might appear to be a nod at being strong by some, the person on the receiving end might not think the same—especially if their baldness is a result of a disease.

She's got a rep as a strong, non apologetic woman. See the interview she gave right before the Oscars where she proclaimed she didn't give a rat's ass what anyone thought of her bald head. No one is buying that she was insecure about it. She put that out there herself. This was about her enormous ego and control. If anything, maybe the jokes would hurt CR. I don't feel anything for Jada but disdain.

And maybe you need to remember, too, that there was a human being at the receiving end of that slap. Will’s actions were despicable. Jada was made the butt of a joke just like thousands of celebs in the show’s history. Just because she and Will are too thin-skinned to either ignore it or laugh it off doesn’t make her a victim. She herself said baldness empowered her. And let’s not forget that Will was laughing at the joke so obviously, he himself found it funny. These two people have egos so large and live in bubbles so privileged that if reality grew a hand and smacked them in their faces, all they can do is run to Facebook and Instagram and whinge like the navel-gazing, overindulged brats that they are. In my many, many years as a prosecutor I have met dozens upon dozens of REAL victims. I can assure you that Jada doesn’t even come close to being one. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

My 2 cents, not that anyone asked.
I think making jokes about violence (even a man slapping another man) of any kind to be distasteful and not my thing. Does that mean I need to "unwad my panties?" Absolutely not, and anyone who says that about someone who is not impressed by jokes and memes about the Oscar's incident really ought to consider checking themselves. It's ok for us to have differing opinions and that is NO REASON to put someone else down. Full stop.

I don't feel anything for Jada but disdain. I responded in general terms to the poster I quoted. I never mentioned a specific person. Not to mention, you don’t get to decide when someone/anyone has had enough of being made fun of or the butt of jokes. If we’re going to bring out prior interviews as justification to degenerate a person, you know that Chris Rock had been previously asked to stop poking fun at Jada. So there’s that. Here and on the other thread, I’ve been speaking to the lack of accountability and consequences that (men) seem to have when denigrating women. I don’t think it’s funny. I realize that some of you think it’s hilarious.
