To which ever pea marked this political...
There is nothing political about accessing food. Just because I had to reach out to my state's DMHC, Congressman, and State reps doesn't mean this is political.
When you mark this political you make other peas not want to read. We have many peas who do not open political posts.
By doing this you stopped peas from access to important information of what is going on as well as knowledge about what amino acid medical formulas are and what disabled parents are going through.
That is not okay. It sucks.

I'm so glad your received enough formula for a month! I hope you'll continue to be able to get food for your son and not have to work so hard and jump through so many hoops to get it in the future.

So the original issue was insurance no longer covering it. Then it was an issue of insurance not paying for the amount they agreed to cover. Then the issue was no more Puramino/Puramino Jr due to factory back order and shut down. Then insurance decided to cover it again (thanks for State DMHC and Gi team). So yay for that. But then no pharmacy contracted with insurance or one that would contract with insurance had any amino acid formula (EleCare, Alfamino, Puramino). So state and DMHC searched. Got a call Friday that our current home health pharmacy got a large shipment of the Puramino Jr Unflavored along with a note that they will now be receiving it. So we are all confused as to why they went factory shut down but now are not. One theory is me contacting all of the federal and state agencies and persons and they found out and said heck to the no! Because not a single federal or state person knew that was happening.
Anyways, so we have coverage until Dec 12 of this year. Before that auth is up, Gi and PCP have to put in for a new auth request. State DMHC stated that if it is denied, go straight to them for expedited case and they will make sure insurance/medical group cover the formula.
Another home health pharm we have worked with before now has Alfamino in stock and we have an auth with them that is on hold in case our current home health pharm can not deliver any Puramino or other amino acid formula to DS.
I have heard from several federal and state persons and am working with them to share information that I have and our experience.
So for now, it is covered and we will be getting formula. If not, I have to contact specific persons and I will certainly let the peas know so those who wish can write reps.
Things are starting to look better with EleCare Jr unflavored now being produced as well.
I dont know if you saw an updated article but the factory (and the others) had no been visited for 2 years. And they were in a ton of violations. We were part of the other recall with pieces of stuff in the formula but that was quickly fixed.
It also stated that Abbott had 90% of the market. Sigh

I hope the new closure of Abbott doesn't affect you. Storms in SW Michigan caused the factory to flood and shut down this week. It sounds like that factory is in major need of a remodel and updates.

The rep said it is operational. I was also given a special link to put our name down and we will be receiving free EleCare Jr formula repeatedly. Eta: oh I see it was closed down now. This was the other day per rep. But they have formula to send out thankfully! |

Sure hope it does not affect your and your son again. They have been producing his for about a week now and have a large stock. He is currently on Puramino. Puramino is Enfamil. EleCare is Similac. The rep gave me a special site to sign up on to get free formula and ds will be getting the unflavored jr. I will get a notice 48 hours notice before delivery. |
