WASHINGTON -- Members of a production team for "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" were arrested by U.S. Capitol Police in a congressional office building Thursday night and charged with unlawful entry.
"On June 16, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) received a call for a disturbance in the Longworth House Office Building. Responding officers observed seven individuals, unescorted and without Congressional ID, in a sixth-floor hallway," Capitol Police said in a statement Friday night.
The building was closed to visitors, and these individuals were determined to be a part of a group that had been directed by the USCP to leave the building earlier in the day," the statement continued.
CBS confirmed in a statement to CNN that on Wednesday and Thursday "Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was on-site at the Capitol with a production team to record interviews for a comedy segment on behalf of" the show.
"Their interviews at the Capitol were authorized and pre-arranged through Congressional aides of the members interviewed," CBS said. "After leaving the members' offices on their last interview of the day, the production team stayed to film stand-ups and other final comedy elements in the halls when they were detained by Capitol Police."
Capitol Police did not identify the people involved in the incident, but said they were charged with unlawful entry.
This is an active criminal investigation, and may result in additional criminal charges after consultation with the U.S. Attorney," the Capitol Police statement said.

It sucks. I can’t really comment on the reasoning until more is known…but bad decisions are bad decisions. They/the incident should be looked into and charges brought forth the same way/as it should for any group of people found in the same situation. I have not had a lot of time to read up on it yet, but must be a lot of Trump supporters/Republicans have because I have seen a lot of comments pertaining to Colbert’s staff. Wondered what it was about. 😉😄
The rhetorical questions that I want to ask all these people who get caught doing things they should not, no matter their party affiliation…How do you think this will help you change opinions and legitimize your cause? Why is it okay for you to break the rules while trying to expose other people breaking the rules…that doesn’t look good so why do it?
ETA - and more importantly is hypocritical, IMO.

I think there should absolutely be consequences for their actions, HOWEVER—I think intent should be taken into consideration. Were they trying to stage a violent coup, overturn an election or harm members of Congress? Then they should not be treated just the same as the rioters who stormed the capitol. 🤷🏼♀️

No one will be let off if they don't follow the rules kind of thing. I will say though that I often believe that independent news reporters, social media news reporters, and producers/staff such as this group think they are above the law. And then cry foul when they are held to the rules. And it is all for ratings. Likes. Follows. Comments. |

I hope they get to use the footage. I haven't seen Triumph in quite a while but his Westminster Dog Show and Star Wars Convention bits had me in tears.

I wonder if there is miscommunication somewhere? I can't believe any shows staff, especially as high profile as the people there, would do something knowingly wrong.
If they did, charges should be brought 100%. This would just be shocking to me.

Charge them with whatever is appropriate. Trumps supporters making hay out of this need to realize that appropriate charges here won’t likely include things like seditious conspiracy, obstructing an official proceeding, or felony assault - and it’s not because there’s some double standard for Democrats. 🙄

I think they didn't pay attention to the rules. They knew them, but didn't think it was a big deal if they didn't adhere to all of them.
I don’t think there's much of a story.
ETA: I may be wrong, but comparing it to January 6th by the right is stupid.

Something about her issues and that how "we" don't support her unconditionally. She had been posting some very inappropriate pics to the dinner thread (medical related) and some peas didn't like it, myself included. I don't recall having to take an oath of being loyal to anyone on this message board. You have to read the thread for this to make any sense. |

I have only posted to the Dinner thread a handful of times....that said, I read it everyday and yeah...some of the medical posts and videos were too much. At a minimal there should have been a spoiler inserted so viewers had the option to look or not. I went there looking for dinner ideas and left before the ends of the threads because it was just too much. If someone wants to share that, great. Start your own thread and label it so others know what to expect. And to comment on her post about either you support all of it or none of it...unfortunately that's not how life works. Edited to add: Just so I am clear --- I do not think sunnycamom should leave...nor do I want her to leave. I think she brings a lot of awareness and information about children with special needs. I think she brings a unique perspective to the board. I also enjoy seeing her posts on the scrappy side. I just think a little more heads up about things that could be upsetting and unexpected on non-medical threads could be given. I realize its her 'real life' and that its what she experiences every day. But for others, it can be shocking when they aren't expecting it. I hope she can come back with a fresh look on how things she posts can be interpreted by someone else not in the same place as she is. She is welcome and wanted here. |

I noticed on the GS board she deleted her profile. It's too bad she left. It's a complicated thing being the mother of kids with special needs. I haven't had to deal with severe medical needs besides epilepsy. When you are the 24/7 hour caregiver for your children, that's your normal. That's your world. It can be frightening, but the "gross" factor usually goes away because you are just trying to keep your kids alive. It is very isolating. I hope she comes back.

I'll tackle this one, because my post was probably the trigger for her to delete. We had a few really nice people leave the thread and some the board, because she was posting very graphic photos w/graphic detail, but more than that she was being mean. She brought drama to an otherwise, really fun and supportive thread and there were many hurt feelings. It was becoming all about her and anyone who tried to get her to ease up or stop posting graphic stuff was met w/anger. Peas were pm'ing me as well as others letting us know that they were done. She came back to apologize yesterday and I explained the issues to her. I own my words. She got angry all over, again and deleted her account. I let her know that if she wanted to post photos/videos or detailed info to put it in a spoiler. She was angry and left for now. Though I feel for her and wish her family the best of everything, I had suggested on more than one occasion that she needed professional support. No matter what I suggested or posted it was met w/resistance and clear frustration. As many of you know I am a very ill pea and even I try to keep the dinner thread a safe place to post and engage. Sure I reach out for support when I'm facing something medically scary, but I don't post detailed info. The two times that I have it was due to questions from others and I put it in a spoiler. We have other peas who have very ill children and don't get breaks and they don't take it out on anyone here and they also don't derail threads. I was afraid of upsetting some of you by telling my truth, but I stand by it and it's bothered me for a long time. I was so ready to use the block feature; however, as the dinner thread weekday leader I didn't think that was right.
So, there it is. Again, I wish that family well and hope that they are offered something to ease their lives. My heart goes out to any mama who deals w/sick children. I am not a mean girl and truly wish her the best. May their lives be enriched in the future and may she find the help and solace that she deserves. A medical psychologist is a must. |

scrapmaven You know that I was there and experiencing the same as you. So you know that I support you 100%! And it is all true. The peas we lost were wonderful. I am one the peas who almost left because of her. I am so glad that I didn’t. I got to the point that I would just scroll by her posts. I couldn’t take her anymore. I wish her and her family well. And I hope that she finds a medical support board that she can join and get the support from the other parents that she needs. We just didn’t have it in us to support her when she would get nasty with people on the board. Me included.
