NO. You do not have that correct. At. All. And you having people on block and trusting your dishonest friends to feed you the twisted version is why there's no conversation going on outside the bubble of groupthink. I said: That is an outright lie and you know it. THAT'S why there's no conversation going on outside the bubble of groupthink. THAT kind of dishonest twisting what was said. I responded to one of your buddies bringing up Biden. I didn't say that because Biden doesn't have anything to do with this. . . . I don't see you quoting anything here that shows your accusations for the lie they are. you said to me my accusations for the lie they are.. The accusations of me defending white supremacy. Not Biden having a stutter. I only quoted you dragging Biden into the thread, because I was accused of bringing him up as an excuse for this woman's speech somehow. I don't even know how that would work (being Biden's fault). It doesn't even make sense. But sockmonkey's a pro at critical thinking and all.

Way to deflect from your defense of a white supremacist. Or your defense of a president who we discovered today throws temper tantrums and throws dishes like a toddler tried to take control of the steering wheel from a secret service agent knew that protestors at the rally on Jan 6 were armed but wanted them allowed in because he was worried about how the crowd size would appear didn't want to do anything to stop the insurrection his allies might have tried to tamper with witnesses his allies asked for pardons for their role in trying to overturn the election and we know that he refused to denounce white supremacists he told them to stand back and stand by which they interpreted as a rallying cry No reports yet on her primary www.washingtonpost.com/elections/election-results/illinois/2022-primaries/#houseThe testimony I just watched about the toddler-in-chief was chilling. 😳

What the ever-loving F$&% is wrong with people??? I am just sick. There is no way for a Democrat to win in my gerrymandered slice of rural Illinois. No. Way. After all of this, I never dreamed that she would actually win. My faith in humanity is non-existent. We are so f#&$ed.

I do appreciate this introspection and admission a lot. I'm sure it does weigh heavily on you. And, as much as I really hated the Bushes, what we are seeing now is next level. Yeah, Trump and his toadies are more like the mafia than a family. Like everyone is saying, if you think that the SC has a majority of Federalist lickspittles and is planning to take away more rights(they definitely are), then it is important to vote Dem down ballot for both state and federal posts. We democrats have our problems, but we do want to save this country and preserve the rights of our citizens. As much as I hate inflation, I dislike states planning to deploy something creepily similar to the Fugitive Slave Act to track down their citizens who have had the temerity to travel to a blue state for an abortion even more. And that is just the beginning of what they will do. The far right is running the Republican Party, and we have to try to stop them, because they are completely batshit. Not to mention that the right doesn’t have a magical plan to fix inflation in the first place. So unless the corporations are all doing this to manipulate the election (which would not totally shock me), prices aren’t going to be lower AND we would have all of the other things you mentioned.

The only advice I can give you (not that you asked, so sorry if you are not interested) is to work hard on local elections like school boards and library trustees, and never take your boot off her neck. Write letters, call out her bullshit. Her job is to represent you, too, and I'd remind her of that every day. I hope there are some like-minded folks in your area who you can find support and comfort with!

You absolutely defended a white supremicist - you just won’t admit it. You twist words every time you post and then whine and get mad when people call you on your BS I gave another perspective of what might have happened that WASN'T racist. I was not defending racist actions. I'll say it again without the clarification: You have more knowledge of her than I do, so I have nothing more to add. Like I said though, I don't know anything about her, so I will leave it to you all that DO and bow out.

However, I can’t keep repeating that now that I’ve read the thread. And you can’t either. People are literally telling us about her, with links and everything. So now that you have more knowledge about her, it shouldn’t take much to stop trying to spin her words with what she could have meant if she wasn’t plainly telling us who she is. And if you can’t see that, you’re not reading carefully or you’re willfully trying to remain unaware. Do better.

I'm so sorry. I grew up in that area (close to last weekend's rally location) and you are right - a Democrat will never win. "We're NOT Chicago" is a basically a personality type.

LOL, which is hilarious because the city and collar counties fund the rest of the state. The Republican candidate for governor suggested that Chicago get kicked out of the state. (Guess he doesn't want those votes, huh?)

Julee hit the nail on the head. pixiechick if you are taking the line of common sense, then please think about the fact that this woman has said things in the past that make people even question whether this was intentional. There has been a direct line of emboldening rhetoric from the Republicans toward white supremacy. If this had come out of AOC's mouth, I can being WTF, it had to be a slip of the tongue. The fact that it came out of this woman's mouth, you are giving the benefit of the doubt to someone who has already shown where she stands in a party that is actively courting white supremacy. I feel for you, I really do. I'm pretty damn moderate about a lot of issues. I voted Republican in a lot of races up until Trump. I can see middle of the road solutions on a lot of things, including the economy, spending, healthcare, etc. But I can't even imagine voting on the basis of the best economic plan (if I believed it belonged to a Republican) in light of the human rights issues going on in this country. There is a clear right and wrong. And the fact that this woman was even questioned about her words (and that's not even to mention the crowd's reaction) should shine a huge spotlight on a very big problem the GOP has when it comes to racism. How can you even try to defend anything having to do with it?

(Guess he doesn't want those votes, huh?) I’m in downstate Illinois, it amuses me to no end when people start spouting off about Chicago. Then again, I’m in the St Louis media market, and see the same with that city. Can’t imagine one of the commonalities between those cities that sets off the more rural areas 🙄🙄🙄

Why is this a historic win for white life?
I know you girls love to tussle….and only with each other not the white men fucking everything up but who has that ever helped?
Also the co-opting of Black women phrases will forever tickle me. Nah fam? Really? Everything is catchy and worth stealing except the activism of Black folks.

Trying to come up with reasons that explain away racism is racist in itself.

Thank you for the check - I tend to use phrases sometimes that my students use, many of which are co-opted from Black women's/Black queer vernacular, as you said. I need to be more aware of those phrases and not appropriate them. The idea of "victory for white life" and why some of us think Miller's "misspeak" was Freudian is rooted in the far-right belief in replacement theory. Miller is definitely someone who can be described as far right. This is a good piece by Reneé Graham on these intersections: www.bostonglobe.com/2022/06/28/opinion/end-roe-v-wade-victory-white-life

How can you even try to defend anything having to do with it? I haven't defended it for 3 days by the time of your post. How much clearer can I be? But, since you asked, and just for the sake of clarification of my first couple of posts and not to continue to defend... The truth is that we don't know for a fact what is in her heart or what she actually meant to say. Sure you can look at the facts and make an educated guess, but it still remains nothing but a guess. In the beginning of this thread, I looked at what she said and my educated guess was different than the vocal majority. Then as I heard more I realized you all knew more about her than I did (I had never heard of her before) and tried to bow out, because it seemed as though "your" educated guess was more educated than mine. Instead I was berated for days even after I went along with the consensus. We HAVE to be able to have conversations here without being smeared for having a different opinion. We have to be able to risk being wrong and have a back and forth with each other until we come to some agreement or agree to disagree, without the vocal majority deciding there is only one correct answer and it always is going to be theirs. No matter what. Even when it directly contradicts what they said and did previously. Why do you have to come up with other perspectives of what might have happened? Why do you personally feel the need to speak for these people? Some people are just racist. If she misspoke why didn’t she immediately correct herself? Instead she applauded herself. That says a lot. Trying to come up with reasons that explain away racism is racist in itself. Showing grace and giving someone the benefit by articulating another possibility that is NOT racism does not mean I condone racism and no, it is not racist to do so.
