We have a secret language that we use to talk to our dog. We sometimes find ourselves speaking to each other in the same language.😂
I always close my eyes while drying my hair or having it dried by my stylist. If anyone talks to me while blow drying, I'm zoned out and it scares me to death.

I guess my only quirk (that I can think of) is that if I am going to drink milk, it has to be whole milk and in a glass with ice. No plastic cups or not including ice. I keep my fridge very cold, but if I ever have milk away from home I have to have ice in it! I only drink whole, too.

We have a couple light fixtures in our house that have 2 switches so you can flip it on or off from either end of the room. When the light is ON, I pay no attention to the switches. But if the light is off, the 2 switches must BOTH either be up or down. I will switch them around if one is up and one is down. It drives my husband nuts but this is a thing for me. I’m particular that if the light is off, the switches must be down, though!

When I get a giant jug of Jelly Bellies from Costco I will pick out all the nasty ones I hate and throw them straight into the trash. Black licorice, espresso, juicy pear and there’s one other yellow one with green specks that are gross. I scoop out a little 2 ounce condiment cup of beans, pick all the icky ones out and then eat the rest with confidence that I won’t have to unexpectedly bite into a gross one and then have to spit it out. You can send all the Juicy Pear to me! Those and Buttered Popcorn are the best Jelly Bellies!

When I'm a passenger in a moving car, I will move my toes in time to the passing of painted lines that divide lanes on the street/highway; as if I'm jumping from line to line on the tips of my toes while the car moves. For years I used to tap my toes to the power poles! 😄

I set thermostat in house and car on even numbers. Increase or decrease by twos. I do this, but the opposite, and with anything with a number. ie: tv volume, radio volume, thermostat The odd numbers are more "even" to me. When I'm stressed or worked up, I tap the tops of my fingers to my thumb in order over and over. Ring finger, middle finger, index, pinky, pinky, index, middle, ring... forwards and backwards. DH has to organize the dishwasher, but fusses about it. I swear he does it differently every time, so the only thing we can possibly get consistent is the utensils. He also prefers the light switches to be down when they're off.

It’s been fun reading these. I guess we all have something. For me, I make a grimace face when I’m doing something not very hard. I don’t realize I’m doing it at first until I catch myself. It would be embarrassing for someone to see me grimacing while doing a fairly easy task.

I rock myself to sleep.
Not in a rocking chair, but a subtle back and forth motion for about 10 seconds in bed. DH laughs at me all the time.

Milk doesn’t have to be whole milk. I usually drink 2% but always has to be on the rocks! Even juice has to be on the rocks as well. And I like the first slice of tomato the best and if it weren’t for the waste it’s all I would eat of a tomato.

These are all so great! I thought of a few more:
I'm another one who has to pair up M&M's according to color and can only eat 2 at at time. Same thing with rainbow goldfish.
When I'm driving or riding in the car, it doesn't matter if it's windy, raining or snowing, I always have to have my window cracked. Drives DH crazy and I've done it for as long as I can remember.
I have to take my right contact out then my left.
Keep them coming!

If she approaches me to talk and her fingers are doing that then I know she is worked up about something. I love this thread because I do so many of these and now I don’t feel as weird. HA! This is my tribe.

We have this one weird thing we say to our doggies...DH and I are so used to it and it's just part of our everyday conversations. But when family or friends hear it, they laugh and/or think we're very weird. When I'm driving or riding in the car, it doesn't matter if it's windy, raining or snowing, I always have to have my window cracked. Me too! I need air movement at ALL times. I will pick out all the nasty ones I hate and throw them straight into the trash. Black licorice, espresso, juicy pear Nooooo!!! Since it's a huge container, there's probably a LOT. Can you please mail them to me?

I love fresh cherries, but I can't stand having my tongue touch the cherry pit.
I can't drink straight from a glass with ice in it, I have to use a straw.
I have a special blankie I have to put over my head (but never, NEVER over my face) before I fall asleep.

I like things organized, but mostly behind doors. Things that are open (clay and scrap rooms mostly) are a mess. I also have very weird ways of eating things. I rarely eat them, but if I’m having m&m’s or skittles, I have to have the same number of each color…so, if I get a handful, and I have five of one color, and three of another, I will eat two of the five, then one of each color to keep the same amount in each one. When I used to eat Nutty Buddy’s, I would eat them by the layer, eating the pb layer off of the cookie before eating the cookie. When Thin Mints had the scalloped edges, I’d eat the scallops off first. When I eat a large, hot omelette, I cut the whole thing into bite sized pieces first so that they will be cool enough to eat when I get to them. There are more, but those are the ones I remember most. Omg. I am the same way with m&ms. I thought I was the only one.

I leave cabinets open. I don’t realize I’m doing it but ds23 points it out. One day just to mess with him, I opened every cabinet just a smidge.

Nooooo!!! Since it's a huge container, there's probably a LOT. Can you please mail them to me? You’ll have to get in line behind Gennifer. She already claimed the Juicy Pears! I told that to my sister once right before they were going to come visit. She was horrified that I throw away the black licorice ones because those are her DH’s favorite. I had just bought a big container of them that I hadn’t opened yet, so I dumped the whole jar in a sheet pan and picked out all of the black licorice Jelly Bellies and saved them for him. 🤣 (I still tossed the other ones I don’t like though.)

My quirk is opening the car window to say hello to nearby sheep whenever we drive slowly past them over the hills. I do that to deer and cows. “Hiiiiiii babiiiiies” God I’m annoying.

I have to open packets from the top, not the bottom. If I’m home and open potato chips or anything else from the bottom, I’ll tape that end shut and open them from the top. What? I thought EVERYONE opened from the top. I've never seen anyone open from the bottom.

I must have milk with brownies or cake. On a rare occasion, I MIGHT have coffee with the cake or brownies, but milk it the most desired beverage with those 2 sweet things.

I can't sleep or sit on the couch, without some sort of blanket, no matter how hot or cold it is.
My husband and I can't sleep unless we have a fan going. Right now we have our ceiling fan and 2 side table fans running while we sleep.
If I see a cat, I need to talk to it or pet it(if it allows me to😉)

I know mine is not uncommon, but... I rearrange the dishwasher if the dishes are not in there Just So. I of course have my little reasons for why the plates need to go in a certain way, or the bowls, etc., but even *I* know it's kind of ridiculous. Here's the worst part: I'll do it at my mom's house, as well. To my credit, I never complain about anyone else's way of loading the dishwasher; I just quietly rearrange things when I do the dishes. My philosophy is that whoever does the dishes gets to pick how the dishwasher is arranged. In my own house it’s to the point where I tell everyone just to leave dirty dishes on the counter. If they put them in the dishwasher, I’m going to have to rearrange them anyway. It’s easier if I just do it myself.

Idk if this is a quirk or not, but the bed has to be neat with smooth sheets when I get into it. If I forgot to make the bed that morning, I will make it before I get in at night so the sheets are straight and smooth.
DH makes fun of me for it. At bedtime he’s like, do you want to come make the bed before I get in it? If he gets in and the bed is still rumpled, I have to straighten everything over top of him before I get in.

When I walk down the stairs in our house, I count each step to myself in my head. Oh, I do this too! I'm a prolific counter. I count everything. I mean everything. Winding yarn, I count. Steps from one room to another, counted. Laundry, counted. Drags off a cigarette, counted. I'm ridiculous. I am very number "focused." I count many things, but don't have to do it. I just like doing it. I learn exits by their numbers and not by the street or highway names. I love figuring steps from one place to another. Driving by intersections I like to predict number of minutes and then see if I am right.

Anytime I'm sitting and not doing anything (watching TV and that sort of thing), I fiddle with something. I'll play with an object, or the hem of my shirt or my hair or something. I even do it when I'm sitting and chatting with someone. I guess it's because I'm so used to my hands moving (I communicate in American Sign Language) that it feels unnatural to have my hands still. LOL.
I'm sure I have many more but that's the one that comes to mind.
Merilee
Edited to add: I just remembered another one! I often eat half the spoonful at a time. I have a spoonful of ice cream, or potato salad or something like that. I'll put the spoon in my mouth and then as I pull it out, only take half the food off. Chew/swallow, then put the spoon back in and eat the rest. Weird, I know, and I have no idea why/how I started doing this. I don't do it every time, and not with every food but quite often.
Another one: I absolutely cannot sleep if my feet are too hot or too cold. So in winter I'll wear socks, in summer, I'll poke my feet out of the sheets. The rest of me may be covered up but not my feet.
