PSA: #RoadToDecember1st For our first week of prepping December documenting together, there is a special December Daily brand board to download (would apply to any kind of December documenting, not just the Ali Edwards flavour). Thank you so much sleepingbooty! This will be helpful to someone like me who will be doing December Daily for the first time. And so aesthetically pleasing! I will definitely add it to my 6X8 album.

sleepingbooty I had no idea jello primarily only an American thing. That made me laugh. Margie I'm with you. After seeing the posts about the class, I went and looked again at the Christmas past kit and it's still a hard pass for me too. I do not want any wooden stamps and the lack of icons so that makes it less usable for me. That said, I'm sure Ali and Pam will come up with cute projects and it's a bummer they don't want to open the class. Seems silly since they might sell more kits after people see the projects/watch the class, or at least I would think anyway. Me three. Hard no based on the wooden stamps alone. Remove them from the kit and I may be slightly tempted to add to box, but no chance on earth I’m adding those stamps to my stash. And they still don’t have the 2021 kits as an option to add to this years box 🤯 I would think that this was a no brainer! Even if you left them full price I’d probably get the paisley press kit from last year to save postage costs. Just why?!?!?

I was SO excited about/looking forward to Pam's Christmas Past kit. Then I saw it. Big.fat.YAWN!The colours,no icons, wood stamps, generic prompts..just no no no. This should've been named The Case of the Blahs kit (holiday edition). Ugh.

3. Hallmark's trio of favourite men (who are friends IRL) are brought together for Three Wise Men and a Baby about brothers having to come together to care for a baby through the holidays. Andrew Walker + Tyler Hynes + Paul Campbell = BINGO! The Hallmark gods and goddesses have blessed us. We are not worthy... I cannot wait for this movie! And when are you designing for ae sleeping booty? Based on the brand board I’d buy your kit 🤗 tres chic (please excuse my appalling French, these are probably some of the only words I know 🤣)

I am catching up on this thread...
Holy crap, what the ever loving flying pig is that from LayeredLife.
I mean are they trying to be cool, hip late 60s/early 70s with that crap?
It is like left out mustard met food dye met someone who had too much cat nip.
Wow!

Aww, I'm so glad to see the brand board love! I hope you all have the most wonderful time adding little bits and bobs to it as you keep prepping your kit and album. Can't wait to see how your boards turn out, ladies. 💚😊❤️ To those who've ordered from traditional Christmas collections: have you all received your goods yet? (My parcel is still travelling from the US to Europe *le sigh*.) Are you happy with your purchases? Any collection you especially love IRL? Thank you so much sleepingbooty! This will be helpful to someone like me who will be doing December Daily for the first time. Congratulations on your very first DD, lanena! 🎉 I'm so excited for you. It's definitely a marathon, not a race, kind of project but so-so worth it when it's finished. No other album quite captures the magic of everyday life like DD does. I hope you'll share your thoughts on doing DD for the very first time and results as you start working on it. 😉 And when are you designing for ae sleeping booty? Based on the brand board I’d buy your kit 🤗 tres chic (please excuse my appalling French, these are probably some of the only words I know 🤣) Oh, that's so kind, lg! ❤️ I'm not a designer but I've definitely been designing my own scrap goodies more often these past couple of years. I will be sharing more designs with you all like digi stamps and cards for DD 2022 over the 10 weeks of #RoadToDecember1st. It's been a lot of Christmassy fun prepping to host this thread! 😁 PS: No shame in your French game. Can't fault you for not using the accent as it's not on your keyboard! "Très chic" is perfect. 😉

PSA: Specialty acetate fans who like to make their own inserts for DD and like a little bit of a retro vibe, Frank Garcia's Candy Cane collection for Prima is now out and has a lovely sheet with gold foil finish that would work great with many other lines and kits! I have seen this in unboxing videos and it doesn't look as yellowy/warm IRL. This one is selling super fast and already out of stock at several places so if you want one, you'll need to add it a scrappy order pretty quickly. Ok, I LOVE this! I'm drawn in by the concept of "Christmas Through the Years." I have 2 (stuffed) Creative Memories 12X12 albums that cover about 7-8 years of Christmas memories starting in 2001. Then I went to DD... Total? 21 Christmases. I like the idea of doing some old (moms childhood), Christmas as a young child (me), photos and memories, and pre scrapbooking years. Then a quick page for all the 21 years with a fav photo or story (or something.) I planned on stash busting- REALLY stashbusting- especially, because I have such a big (and lonnnnnnnng running) stash. But this Frank Garcia line captures Christmas at Grandma's. Those weird 1970's German elves she had and the abundance of reindeer and poinsettia plants. It's not 100% the mental picture, but it's really close, and kind of garish in a 70's but not really way. The papers seem to leave a nice of room for journaling, but also a nice layering effect for some of the photos I may struggle on the journaling. I've been putting together a ACOT cart throughout the last few months and added some of this line... now my cart is like $140 (for 55 papers/embellishments.) I really hesitated to pull the trigger. Then I went back to the aging Ali box. MAN! I paid $10 for 6 1.5 inch Santa stickers. I paid $10 for some felt hearts. About the same $$$ for the album, a paper pack and some stickers. LOL I wish I could REMOVE things from my box lol I'm more and more happy I didn't pay for any of the kits this year (haven't bought an Ali kit in years.) Anyway, after reviewing what I paid for those doggone stickers and felt presents lol, I placed the ACOT order. I know I'm going to love it though, so I'm not mad hahahahha I got the Frank Garcia, Mittens and Mistletoe items, a good deal of bazzil, some more HS Sunchaser papers and stickers, and a few more items I've been sitting on. (So much for stash busting....) I refuse to pay for that goofy $35 Christmas past kit to get a class. I'll spend that money on a designer that... designs.

Interesting to see Kim Hurst working on a group to work through DD using Canva here Since I'm dithering about putting my Brand Board together (thank you sleepingbooty !) and thinking that I'll probably use what I have in terms of pretty papers and stuff, perhaps this is the year to wing it with Canva as well. I will receive Shimelle's prompts as always and feel those are a great way of keeping the wolf from the door in terms of what to include (never short of ideas here), with eighteen completed DD journals on my shelf already, maybe I need a fresh approach? Anyone else considering the Canva route?

Random Hallmark comment: I started watching "Amazing Winter Romance" which I assume was the working title and then they couldn't think of a proper title so they just didn't bother...? (I don't have anything to say about the movie, didn't watch enough to really judge. It was about a small town snow maze.) I just couldn't get past the title. I thought they'd hit the jackpot for dumb lazy titles with "Date with Love" (AKA the prom-posal movie). Is their goal to make every title as nondescript as possible? Or have they used up all the specific ones already?

Anyone else considering the Canva route? I've been kicking it around since I saw Kim post about the class. I enjoyed her Canva class with AE, even if it wasn't super professional, which was fine, especially given the low price point of the class. I have the Canva subscription but don't use it much (which means I should either start using it more or cancel; ugh story of my life which is why I loath the subscription model that's now for everything). Maybe this would inspire me? I'm not sure I love that she'll be using AE products for the class since I didn't pick anything up from AE, or at least I haven't yet. Are you going to do it?

scrappyem you could have been sitting on my shoulder as I thought about it - I have had exactly the same concerns. I am not a particular AE fan and wondered how it would work for those of us who do our own thing. I do, however use Canva - not for scrapbooking or memory keeping, but for a course I teach - and I have long thought that I ought to explore more of the possibilities of this powerful and versatile program. I think the main barrier for me is that I find using scissors and glue therapeutic and every time I've tried to incorporate some digital elements into my work I have not been that successful. Is that a reason not to have another go? To see if some kind of hybrid route is possible? I've not gone headlong into a major purchase of paper and other pretty things this year, so maybe this is the right time? Nothing to waste... Aaagh. Decisions decisions!!

Got my FJ DD order today. Sad this will be the last one What did you order? felicityjane.com/collections/ivyWord confetti Sticker sheet Chipboard Frames Dividers Taylor Chipboard Alpha Skinny gold scallop washi Mini lables stamp I like it all except for the chipboard frames . Those are underwhelming, but quite often the products that I don't love, end up being the most used. Rather than buying the items à la carte, I was debating on buying the Christmas kit, but I decided not to. I also got the mini labels stamp thinking they'd be smaller than they are. I probably already have similar labels in older SC/KP stamp sets, but I like how these are all together. If they go on sale later, I may buy some of the other mini stamps with the coordinating dies. Those would be fun to use for tags, embellies etc.

elegantsufficiency I'm a huge fan of hybrid. You get the scissors and glue but also the ease of using digital for journaling & layout planning. Plus benefit of being able to resize and recolor embellishments and the whole world of amazing digital designers. I typically use Photoshop CC for all my stuff, but I'm self taught and by no means an expert. I like the idea of Canva since it's so accessible and easy to use (I try and help friends with photos, Canva seems a good option for newbies vs Photoshop with such a big learning curve). I think you might love hybrid, since it's the best of both worlds. You can lean heavier digital if you are short on time or heavier on the paper and glue as inspiration strikes.

Anyone else considering the Canva route? I'm a big fan of going the hybrid route. It's easy (especially with Canva), it allows for using up/buying some physical stuff still, gives you a completely customised end result. Couldn't recommend it more! If you feel the itch, scratch it and join the Photoshop/Canva gang. You cant lose. No matter what, you'll acquire some skills and confidence in your abilities. And if the itch catches on, you may just end up going hybrid way more often in the future...

RAK: From this year's Baking Spirits Bright collection by Simple Stories. These are the die-cuts from the icon ephemera pack I'm certain I won't use. Themes: baking & traditional style home. Should be enough to embellish 1 to 2 12x12 LOs or DD pages/spreads. Pairs with traditional Christmas colours. Shades a little moodier than the mock-up IRL. Sent in a plain letter envelope with a global stamp to anywhere in the world, no tracking. PS: Don't tell me those aren't two Jell-O puddings (dark green + mint green). Come on. Totally Christmas Jell-O. Can't tell me otherwise.

Well, I just printed out Sleepingbooty's Road to December post and I think I am going to create a little analogue notebook to guide me this DD season. Also downloaded the brand template - SWOON! The quote below may be my mantra for the entire season: "...to leave your mark not only as the storyteller but also as the creative mind behind these December memories left as a legacy. You are not your family's ghost writer. 👻 You are the creative mind who starts looking at Christmas collections in April, pre-orders during July/August, makes sure to be online on release day when Ali's new DD goodies drop, waits weeks for these carefully selected items to finally be shipped, spends hours on making sure everything goes together and more. Do not erase yourself and all the work that goes into these albums. Make some room for the memory of your creative process, too." I needed this because I do want to put myself back in the stories and this is such a true and authentic way to do it! Thanks Booty

I probably should have gotten the numbers from Color Cast before they sold out, but I wasn’t that excited about any of the other parts of the release, so I didn’t hurry up and buy. The numbers are always the most popular - I wish Jessica would do a smaller holiday release, so she can fulfill the huge want for the numbers. Oh well.

My week has been stupid busy and I haven't been on much but then I saw the hallmark announcement! My LOVE Jeremy Jordan will be in a movie this year??! Or where is this announcement you speak of? I am gearing up for my 2nd year of hallmark. But wait, did I hear a bunch of them left for a different network? ACM, CMA, TCM? Anyone know, is it normal cable? Also....I got Jeremy Jordan's autograph when he was in Newsies! Love him. Had no idea he's in something...also love Lisa Loeb, so I am curious will there be music involved? I actually enjoyed the Jordan Sparks one last year with the music. Don't want to derail the DD thread...I think there is a hallmark thread somewhere to resurrect... All I've done today is come to the GS board and talked about TV!
