How's everyone doing, if you've chosen to do some prep work for DD? I don't really do foundation pages, although there's a couple of spreads I want to try out this year. I have done a cover page which I'm pleased with, but I have yet to do is write my annual letter to my kids (this is instead of a reason why) and talk about what we and the world have been up to over the year. Hopefully I can find a quiet time this weekend to do that. The big thing for me is that I have tidied my desk and organised all my DD supplies so I'm ready to go. It's quite nice having a tidy desk again!

We're more than halfway through the month...for those of you who are doing Product Play do you think it was worth it? I have absolutely no ideas bubbling in my mind about how to get started on my 2022 DD and I'm thinking (hoping) that Product Play may spark some creativity. Yes, I think so. It's sparking lots of ideas for me anyway and most can be used with other supplies and not just what was used in the lessons. I would say that I don't think that the levels are always true. Some of the level 1s aren't nessessarily straightforward and some of the level 3s could be done really simply.
I bought last year's product play using the current 50% off discount and that's good too - although now I've bombarded myself with so much, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed 🙃

Maybe, but honestly if you look around Instagram (or the DD fb group) you can see most of the projects and figure out how to do them. It’s frustrating to me. Going forward I probably won’t buy the class unless I get it 1/2 off.

For those who like to do a photographyy challange over the course of December, here's a couple that popped up on my feed today (I don't usually follow the challanges all the way through, but they're handy to have and helpful if I'm feeling stuck on a DD day). http://instagr.am/p/ClD-ySKIvjF Susannah Conway is always lovely (and her Unravel the Year workbook is GREAT) and Audrey's photography courses are great, so this should be fun too: http://instagr.am/p/ClD5FVLqGKo

This was an IG ad I saw today and I was excited because I thought it was for adults 🙃 But it looks like a cute way to get reading time in with your kids! She prints in a big ass size but it definitely looks manageable at a 10x8 or folded to place into a smaller size. She's linked her previous years of Christmas countdowns in the post too. Her first 2 are a lot more bold with less intricate artwork to color, and one of them is even in portrait (would be great for 6x8 imo). Christmas reading countdown

Foundation pages are up on the blog. There's some really good stuff.
I'm definitely starting to get inspired. I'm going to make that full-page shaker page. I don't have the die cut quote paper but I will cut something else out. Maybe some of the folk shapes from the digital file I bought of the wood shapes.

How's everyone doing, if you've chosen to do some prep work for DD? I don't prep anything in terms of my pages, but I have started putting together a kit. I was not excited by any of the releases this year and wasn't really sure what direction to take my album, but I've started pulling some things that are inspiring me and will likely sit down and make a full kit next weekend.

No prepping for me either other than sketching out ideas. I tend to skip pockets for 90% of my layouts, and work on top of a large photo. So foundation pages don’t really work for me.

On Prepping, I got myself about 60-70% organized and was able to create some pages a few weeks ago. I was traveling on prep day, so just getting into those videos the last few days and getting inspired and created a few pages the last few days. I just looked through Ali's blog post with her latest update on foundation pages and definitely get some inspo there - I always like her clean style. I also have watched a few videos from influencers - you know some are better than others. I do like the prep day and the product play because there are usually things in there that go step by step and can be helpful on techniques or measurement or even tips on supplies that I can't necessarily figure out by looking at just an insta post - plus I like to be able to go back through the classes to mine them for ideas. I will say that after doing all of the original product play classes, except the first one, and then last year and this year, the ideas do tend to overlap. I mean, that is not too surprising. I do go back and look through the older classes for inspiration and there are some fantastic pdf resources for the first 4 where they dove deep into techniques.
I think next year it would be nice to go back to a technique driven product play vs product driven. Just to change it up a little.

Well I prepped 2 pages LOL. One for the Christmas tree photo and one for home decor. Not numbered yet, will do that when I use the page.
I also made my cover/title page.

Y'all, this thread is moving WAY too fast for me to read to the end and remember what I want to say. Now that I think about it, that's a pretty nice problem to have. I wish there was a better way to search. Right? Just because it's 50% off doesn't mean you have to buy something. That's what I keep telling myself. It's still spending even if it's only half of what it normally is. I already have what I need for DD, I parked my butt on this bench & tied myself to it. So far. I bought the digital file that amy used to make these shrinky dink embellies What a good idea! I love these icons, especially the rainbow. I think they'll shrink well. Letters turned on their sides don't bother me all that much. Rainbows that aren't even close to the right colors are like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Make it stop! The other icons are cute, though. I bought several Christmas 12x12 pads after Christmas sometime in the last couple of years. I've been working with the designs already on the paper and making them work into all kinds of interactives other people have done. I've got a bunch of pages done/nearly done just waiting to be filled. Apparently, I scrapbook the same way I cook. I take a recipe and by the time I'm done, the result looks nothing like the example.

Watched Ali’s videos last night and totally love her full page shaker page. I feel like I need to do one! Or maybe on the back side of a Starbucks cup? Off to order some foam tape, lol!

I count on my collection of page ideas I’ve sketched out over the years. Many of them do not translate well to 8x10. Try placing one of your designs on just the part of the 8x10 that fits. You could use the additional space to add in an interactive element like a fold. I saw a page that was 8x10 horizontal. The edge side was folded and when it opened, there was a full size photo that had been folded to fit. The picture was of a little boy by the Christmas tree. There was journaling or something printed on vellum that was over the tree that flipped up so you could see the whole photo. Really clever.

I learned an easy way to make a whole page shaker from the scrapbook.com fest, it was Lauren Taylor's class, just pass the 2 hour and 2 minute mark: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMPiawK0U4A&t=6300sShe uses any plastic packaging and wraps it tightly around page and uses adhesive on the back. It's not 3d or double-sided like it would be with foam tape, but it worked really well on cards and could prob be same on a full page. I guess would have to back it up to something else in an album, but it's an easy technique. Now I am hoarding all my packaging!

What I am struggling with is my cover page + why. I don't think I'll do a "reason why". It's a forced way for me to think and won't be natural at all for me in these albums (one is a gift). Not knocking anyone who does this, because there are lots of really well done reason why pages. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that if you can't come up with a good plan, you can just skip that page altogether. Maybe even do something ele in its place.

I don't do a reason why. I mostly do it for fun and being able to do non traditional pages that don't have to be in a pocket page. Almost all of the topics I put in my DD go in the kids regular albums in a traditional format of pocket page scrapbooking.

I don't think I've ever impulse bought anything so quickly as when I impulse bought foam tape and sequins this morning watching Ali's foundation pages video, ha. Loved that huge shaker page and I'm excited to make one myself. Have never made a shaker pocket before because I could not be arsed to drag out my sewing machine.

I also don't typically do a reason why or a manifesto (the JYC version of the reason why). I did in last year's album as we were coming out of yet another lockdown/set of restrictions just before Dec started and I wanted to include the some general thoughts about how covid had affected our last couple of years and how I hoped 2021 would be different. Outside of that I don't think I've done one since the first couple of albums I made.
I almost always make my title page sometime during Dec, sometimes it's the last thing I do. Once I've got a real feel for how the album is coming together, I usually have a better idea of what I want the opening page to look like.

How's everyone doing, if you've chosen to do some prep work for DD? I have started 3-4 pages, but wont finish them til December. But I wrote down my plan for each page and stuck it on a sticky note with the supplies. What I am struggling with is my cover page + why. Ugh. That should be the easiest page but I am not inspired just yet. Edited to add: I am not completing days ahead of time....I am just getting some started. Like I know I want to include a calendar, so I am working on that. I know I want to use 'x' paper for a pocket, so I am doing that ahead of time. I want to do some foundation pages and get some cards in my album but need to finish my Christmas cards first. Hopefully I'll finish the cards this weekend, then it's on to the DD album.

I've never done a reason why. The only thing close to that was in 2020, when I added a page at the beginning that talked about how different that Christmas would be due to Covid.
