I don't think this is working out the way Abbott intended. Fortunately, it's been positive for many of the immigrants. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/09/07/migrants-dc-buses-texas/But for many of those who have accepted the rides, any political gamesmanship has been irrelevant. The buses have turned into a welcomed pipeline, given that many already had plans to head east, either to live in the D.C. area or somewhere else another bus ride away.I think it's turned out exactly how they intended. With Hidin' Biden ignoring the officials that begged him to come down and see the crisis first hand so together they could figure out a solution, it got t he mayors of these sanctuary cities publicly losing their minds over even their small influx.
That just might get his attention so he will get together and finally do something productive. Something besides put Kamala in charge, which did nothing whatsoever to stop the emergency.

Let's not forget that Abbott has also spent tens of millions - including federal Covid relief funds - on money for border towns to capture, incarcerate, and prosecute illegal immigrants. The "crisis" came when he directed counties to start prosecuting and incarcerating people who formerly had not been. In that sense, he created the crisis himself. He hasn't sent a dime allocated to actually house or help refugees. He fails to recognize that much of the heavy lifting in that area is done by faith-based and non-profit organizations who rely on donor support. This is all just a political stunt to him and he's using both state and federal tax money to do it. I went and did a little digging on right-wing sites to find the source of some of the rhetoric above. Just for the record, the mayors of DC, Chicago, and NYC are not "losing their minds" as some would have you believe. They have, appropriately, asked for federal refugee relief funds to make sure people are properly housed. They have, appropriately, called out Abbott for his political stunt with all those millions spent needlessly hunting and incarcerating people rather than helping them. I think that grift and corruption are so natural to the current GOP that they assume that everyone is engaging in it, even poor immigrants who fear so much for their lives that they leave their homes to go to a strange country where a large chunk of the population hates them. Funny to me that Christian hatred is being strictly protected by law in this country, while Christian charity is entirely forgotten.

Funny to me that Christian hatred is being strictly protected by law in this country, while Christian charity is entirely forgotten. Exactly. The mayors hardly lost their minds, except to express understandable frustration with Abbott for his political stunt. The mayors reasonably asked for federal assistance. And they welcomed the immigrants. And let's not forget Abbott's earlier stunt to impose safety inspections at the border that caused billions of dollars in trade losses. www.npr.org/2022/08/08/1116285340/new-york-migrant-bus-texas-abbottwww.politico.com/news/2022/08/07/eric-adams-texas-migrants-new-york-00050235“It is unimaginable what the governor of Texas has done, when you think about this country, a country that has always been open to those who were fleeing persecution,” Adams said. “We’ve always welcomed them. And this governor is not doing that in Texas. But we are going to set the right tone of being here for these families.”

On the topic of our "wide open borders" letting in all the drugs:

On the topic of our "wide open borders" letting in all the drugs: It is not the individual immigrants who are coming here to work and for a better life who are bringing in drugs. It is the cartels and other criminals. You are not going to stop that flow of drugs building a ridiculous wall.

Border control working as it is supposed to do.

In addition to bring immigrants closer to their destination, the busing has had another unintended effect. In Houston, only 17% of requests for asylum are approved. Dallas 30% but NY 87% www.pbs.org/newshour/show/d-c-mayor-declares-emergency-as-republican-governors-send-migrant-buses-to-washingtonwww.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/09/09/dc-grateful-texas-migrants/Gratitude might not be the reaction Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) was expecting when he began sending frequent busloads of migrants and asylum seekers to the greater D.C. area. But gratitude, warmth and a renewed sense of collective responsibility are the responses I have seen as D.C.-area organizations and faith communities (and, most recently, its government) have stepped up to welcome and support newcomers.
With Abbott’s bus initiative — a costly venture likely to be funded in large part by Texas taxpayers — we’ve seen an apparent strategy to inflict maximum pain on our region and score political points, using vulnerable people as weapons aimed at pressuring the Biden administration into taking more drastic measures to seal our nation’s southern border.
This is an opportunity to demonstrate the best of who we are in the face of unprecedented levels of forced dislocations worldwide. The bottom line is this: If we want to continue to live up to our values, many more of us need to step up to assist the new arrivals. And if we can meet this challenge, we will set an example for the rest of our country to follow.
