Hmmmm Hunter Biden is a private citizen. I dont care about anything that the republicans make their latest buzzword ("but her emails"). I care about their stripping all americans who are not wealthy white males of their rights.

Interesting but not surprising that the OP had time to post about Hunter but so far, has remained silent about the nuclear weapons documents that Trump stole and refused to give back. The other part I don’t understand is the blatant hypocrisy. Most conservatives were silent about Trump’s massively unqualified children working in the White House, receiving clearances they shouldn’t have, Ivanka profiting off a deal with China, Trump endorsing her company from the White house, Jared who has never managed a fund receiving a $2 B Saudi investment. Or Trump himself profiting off the presidency? Not turning his company over, his company made millions when the family travelled and stayed at hotel properties, his golf club received millions of dollars to host the Saudi tournaments etc. How can you turn a blind eye to all of that and then say but Hunter? They have to manufacture a story so they can accuse us of "hypocrisy." But the stories they manufacture are false equivalencies. It's completely appropriate to be more concerned about the guy who was president keeping nuclear secrets in his basement than about the guy who was never president or working in the White House having something hinky on his laptop. And their attempts to make it equivalent by somehow connecting it to Biden are pathetic.

What is the obsession with Hunter Biden about? He isn’t in the administration or working for the administration or making money while they are working in their dad’s administration. If I was doing something wrong, I would do everything I could to avoid talking about it, including talking about other people doing what I was doing. For example, if I knew that my dear leader’s kids did all of the above, The last thing I would be doing is whining about Hunter Biden’s laptop. Or, if I had ranted and raved about the protection of classified information on a private email server, I wouldn’t have used burner phones, ripped up, flushed, and otherwise destroyed classified documents. And I sure wouldn’t be saying “defund the FBI” after tearing down the idea of defunding the police. Or I wouldn’t be contradicting everything that I said over the last five years to spin my party in a different way. But republicans are allergic to irony and immune to hypocrisy. There is a special kind of personality flaw with them. Eta that if he did something wrong, I am fine with him being investigated. But I don’t think that what he may or may not have done is as consequential as what the Trumps did during his presidency. And I think they should have had some consequences. And again, I think it is hypocritical for people to constantly bring up Hunter Biden while ignoring the rest. What is the obsession with Hunter Biden about? He isn’t in the administration or working for the administration or making money while they are working in their dad’s administration. Because they downplayed it and outright lied about it being Russian disinformation during the campaign. They knew it wasn't at the time, but they pushed that lie until AFTER the election. THEN they admitted that yes, it was real, not Russian disinformation. There's been a poll since then that said a significant amount of Biden voters wouldn't have voted for Biden had they known the truth at the time. Because Hunter's business partner HAS testified that Hunter WAS making money from his dad's position as VP. That's why it's a problem. And again, I think it is hypocritical for people to constantly bring up Hunter Biden while ignoring the rest. And vice versa. So why is it a problem for Hunter to make money from his relationship with his dad but it’s ok for the Trump kids to do that and much worse, while also working in the administration (nepotism, anyone?)? The Saudi’s just “invested” 2B with Jared and ivanka, and also paid trump who knows how much to have golf events at his courses. So why is Hunter an issue for you?

I think lots of people know Hunter has always been basically a ne’er-do-well most of his adult life. I mean, he’s the opposite of Beau and that’s never been a secret. During the Obama tenure, it was well-known Hunter was occasionally a thorn in their side. That said, there’s never been any evidence that whatever he was doing had influenced Joe in any way regards his official duties as VP, nor has there been evidence at all that Joe had received monies/kickbacks from any of the companies and countries Hunter had been involved with. If there’s Joe-related corruption stemming from Hunter’s activities, this is DC—that’s the sort of thing you couldn’t have kept under wraps for long. Hunter is a private citizen; he wasn’t involved in the running of gov’t. If Delaware has a case against him, then the US Atty there will handle it. Exactly. He is a private citizen. If he broke the law, he should go to jail and pay whatever price for that. I would be more worked up about it if Biden had him working in the WH. Huge difference between Hunter Biden and the Trump grifters who all made millions while daddy was the president. I don't get how anyone who was okay with the Trump kids working in the WH and benefiting from him being president in million$ of ways can in good conscience continually rant about Hunter Biden and not see the hypocrisy in that.

Yep. If anything, that family has received an incredible amount of protection from prosecution even way before the presidency. The Trump grifts in Baja, NY and elsewhere are well-known. And I’ve not seen any legitimate report of Joe intervening. He could as easily do what Trump did—fire anybody who’s investigating him or whoever he perceived as his enemy. Hell, he would have fired Mueller were it not for McGahn’s threat to resign. Joe could fire the head of FBI, fire the Delaware US Atty, use all the levers of executive power to quash investigations. He hasn’t done anything to suggest any such meddling.

Wait, so the entire "evidence" for this supposed lie and cover-up rests in a grandstanding letter from CHUCK GRASSLEY??? CBS reporting that the letter exists is not the same thing as CBS independently confirming the letter's allegations. Has anyone done that? If not, GTFO. Chuck Grassley is about the furthest thing from a credible source you can imagine, if only because he can't remember what he had for breakfast yesterday. He's probably confusing the Hunter Biden thing with something that happened during the Reagan administration.

Even Fox is talking about the classified documents. Lots of excuses but they’re not just ignoring it.

You’re miffed because not more people are taking this seriously. The man is being investigated as pointed out. What more do you want? From The Hill… link” Hunter Biden controversy explained”BY KIMBERLY WEHLE, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR - 04/11/22 12:30 PM ET “In gentler times, the story around the president’s son Hunter Biden, his laptop, related whiffs of nepotism and possible corruption would be dominating the news cycle. Not only is he Joe Biden’s son, but the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI have reportedly been actively investigating him for potential tax crimes and other matters since 2018. In the wake of former President Donald Trump’s demolition of the rule of law, which produced multiple civil and criminal investigations but no meaningful accountability (with rare exceptions, such as former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, whom Trump pardoned), it’s hard to see the Hunter Biden scandal as scandalous. We are pretty numb to this stuff. Nonetheless, Hunter Biden remains a serious political — if not criminal — problem for the first family. Keep in mind that there is a huge difference between a perceived or actual conflict of interest, on one hand, and a crime on the other. At this point, Hunter Biden’s myriad messes fall into the former category, not unlike many characters in American politics. Here are a few basics regarding Hunter Biden’s potential criminal liability at this juncture: 1. Hunter Biden’s role at Burisma
He served on the board of the Ukrainian Energy firm Burisma from 2014 to 2019, to the tune of $50,000 per month. As two Republican-led Senate committees already concluded, this work mostly posed a possible conflict of interest, if anything. Most critically, the committees made no finding that then-candidate Joe Biden did anything wrong when it came to pressuring Ukraine to fire its top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, while he was vice president. The right-wing suggestion that the move was to protect his son, rather than to legitimately push back on corruption in the Ukrainian government, has been proven untrue. If there were criminal activity in play, the machinery behind the Big Lie would have made it known by now — including Trump’s former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who was dispatched to Europe to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to announce an investigation into Hunter Biden, prompting Trump’s first impeachment. Thus, the Burisma connection probably won’t produce criminal charges against Hunter Biden going forward. 2. Hunter Biden’s deals with a Chinese energy companyIt smells bad.In 2017, Hunter Biden entered into an agreement with a Chinese company with reported ties to the Chinese government, CEFC China Energy, for consulting work. Ultimately, CEFC paid $4.8 million to entities controlled by Hunter Biden and his uncle James Biden (Joe Biden’s younger brother). There’s no known evidence that Joe Biden knew or personally benefited from the engagement, but it’s also not publicly known what actual work Hunter Biden did in exchange for these sums, or where the money is now. In theory, DOJ could have its sights on possible tax crimes (failing to account for the CEFC-related income, for example), illegal foreign lobbying, money laundering and even bribery. Two years before the deal was inked, a CEFC representative sent Hunter Biden a 2.8 carat diamond, which Biden says he gave away. And although Hunter Biden is a lawyer whom CEFC technically engaged as counsel, when a CEFC official was later arrested, the company enlisted someone else to represent him. There’s also stuff on Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop, although most of its data is reportedly corrupted and cannot be authenticated. It makes sense that DOJ would be tracking down these and other factual oddities to ascertain whether they amount to anything under the criminal laws. 3. Willful intent is not easy to proveTo make any criminal liability stick, prosecutors would have to show that Hunter Biden had criminal knowledge or intent, which is hard to prove — especially given Biden’s history of drugs and other personal problems. A violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act must be “willful” — not out of clumsiness or a mistake. Likewise, for his actions to rise to the level of federal tax crimes, the government must prove willful evasion of tax payments. According to the IRS, “a mere act of willful omission” is not enough, and Hunter Biden paid back a lot of his tax liability already.Per DOJ’s website, money laundering is only triggered if someone conducted a financial transaction “knowing that the property involved in the transaction represents the proceeds of some unlawful activity,” and with an intent to engage in the unlawful activity or to commit tax fraud, among other factors. Bribery requires the involvement of a person with fiduciary duties, such as a public official — Hunter Biden’s receipt of a diamond, without more, says little. The public record to date doesn’t reveal evidence sufficient to prove any crime beyond a reasonable doubt (although grand juries operate in secret so it’s impossible to know). In any event, Hunter Biden’s history of drug addiction, the untimely death of his brother Beau Biden in 2015, as well as his high-conflict divorce and debt problems around the time of the CEFC engagements could undermine the government’s case regarding requisite criminal intent.4. The justice system is workingThe fact that DOJ pursued this case under two presidential administrations and two competing political parties shows that the system can work — which is excellent news for those of us who care about the longevity of democracy and the rule of law.
It’s remarkable, frankly, that this investigation proceeded without political incident under Trump’s attorney general Bill Barr, who broke from Trump in refusing to name a special prosecutor or otherwise politicize the probe during the 2020 presidential election. It’s equally remarkable that Joe Biden didn’t handpick an attorney general whom he knew would kill the criminal investigation into his son, either — and that he has taken no apparent steps to afford Hunter Biden special, kid-glove treatment since becoming president.Given the hateful nature of national politics and the glut of misinformation these days, the fact that the Hunter Biden inquiry is — in Barr’s words—being “handled responsibly” to this day is an amazingly positive nod to a functioning rule of law in the United States. 5. Looming midterm elections will elevate the story The Hunter Biden story is sufficiently murky that, if the radical right wing of the Republican Party takes control of the House of Representatives in November, it will no doubt turn this into a 24/7 political blood bath for Democrats. Although there’s no clear public evidence of a crime so far — and Republican gaslighting around non-stop corruption during the Trump years reeks of hypocrisy — the Hunter Biden narrative contains many damaging details that make Hillary Clinton’s emails look quaint.Already, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), who is on track to chair the House Oversight Committee if Republicans gain control of the chamber, said it “is going to be all over Hunter Biden,” calling him “a national security threat.” It’s hard to imagine how Democrats will survive the onslaught politically, regardless of the ultimate truth — and Republican operatives undoubtedly know it. One thing is for sure: American voters ostensibly despise corruption in politics, although those on each side of the aisle are more willing to tolerate it from folks in their respective political party. What the Hunter Biden story — like the Trump scandals — should therefore signal to voters is that it’s time to elect people with integrity who also maintain an appearance of integrity. This means voting not based on party, but on facts and values. Sadly, it might be too late for that.”

If you could at least acknowledge what’s happening with Trump and classified documents or the millions that Trump and his family made off his presidency, I might take you a little more seriously. There is plenty of evidence there, even conservative media outlets are reporting it. Until then, Hunter is being investigated by a US District Attorney appointed by Trump. There’s no evidence that President Biden was involved in anything and he’s kept as much distance as possible from the investigation. If there’s anything there, Hunter should be prosecuted.
Right now we only have Chuck Grassley’s word that there was a cover up. Chuck can’t remember how he voted the day before, so he doesn’t seem very credible. I’ll wait until there’s more evidence. At the moment, with just Chuck Grassley’s word, there’s nothing to weigh in on. The FBI agent in question has been suspended, but he worked in the DC office.

You keep saying you agree with that but then only seem to call out the left.

Wait, if this was all happening in 2019-2020, it was the Trump White House conspiring with the press and social media to cover up the Hunter Biden scandal? The Trump-owned FBI covering up the investigation of Hunter Biden? My head is spinning. If Hunter Biden is guilty of anything serious, they will figure it out and charge him, and then we can all be outraged for whatever reasons. Meanwhile, this whole story is of little interest to me. I’m much more absorbed in trying to prevent the guy who wants to destroy democracy from ever holding office again. I realize that issue does not particularly concern you. Hunter’s laptop is much more interesting.

I don’t understand why no one sees a problem with that. They were working for the US government and making millions and billions but that’s just smart. Hunter wasn’t working for the government.

Among other things, despite all of the "reporting being verified and verifiable via criminal search warrants" it was labeled Russian disinformation and ordered closed almost as soon as they got it. It was also closed without a valid reason as required and "attempted to be marked in such a way that it could not be opened again".

Neither does the White House, whether it’s in Democratic or Republican hands. There’s this little thing called the 1st amendment. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. (Government officials may occasionally ASK media to sit on a story for a little while for law enforcement or national security reasons. That is not the same thing as giving “marching orders” to the press.)
