Are you going to go see any of the local scary movies? There are some really good ones this year. Between the Academy and the Hollywood there are so many good choices. I am excited about Freaks and the Invisible Man this weekend. I need to make a plan! Seeing Freaks on the big screen would be wild. Do you know anything about the Cinema of Horrors drive in at the Clark County fairgrounds? Trying to decide if I'm cool enough to visit the Black Lagoon pop-up bar at Hey Love. I don't think I am. 😄 Portland is one of 9 cities to have it this year. I might just stick with Ravens Manor. We went a few years ago, it was pretty good. We saw Get Out, I wish we had seen a different movie that was more Halloweeny or we were more familiar with. I haven't heard about the pop up, but I am definitely not cool, so although I will investigate, I bet we will stick with Raven's manor as well. We have elixer experience reservations for this month.

I thought I saw an inflatable Yule Cat in someone's front yard today but then I remembered that it's Halloween first and black cats are for Halloween, and also that the Yule Cat isn't a thing in the USA... Anyway, lots of people in my neighborhood seem to be decorating hard for Halloween this year.

BUT, one dude has a skeleton the size of his house. It's got another skeleton by the foot. I'll have to walk up there and grab a photo.

I had not heard of Yule Cat, so I googled. We must make this happen! Krampus is really starting to catch on here (a local shop even offers seasonal photos with him, like Santa), so I think it's possible, at least where I live. We passed a house the other day that had a giant Audrey 2 from "Little Shop of Horrors", as well as a huge Dia de Muertos skeleton, an ofrenda where people are placing photos, a giant spider, and they keep adding other decorations. I found their IG: Audrey 2I love "Little Shop of Horrors" and have several small Audrey 2s, but I'm wondering if have the skills to make a huge one. On the other hand, our next door neighbors are putting their house on sale tomorrow, so perhaps this is not the year.

I had not heard of Yule Cat, so I googled. We must make this happen! I brought the Yule Cat up in the DD discussion during summer and am secretly hoping it will catch on! It's such a fun and spooky Christmas tradition... There is a Yule Cat 3x4 PL card download link in the DD thread already if you're interested in adding this tradition to your Christmas memories this year. Watched Halloween Cookie Challenge on Food Network Channel that I recorded and one the bakers used a Tim Holtz brick stencil on her final round bake. Great catch! Love it when something scrappy pops up in unexpected places. BUT, one dude has a skeleton the size of his house. It's got another skeleton by the foot. I'll have to walk up there and grab a photo. Erm. Ok. You can't say such things without posting a photo, Ma'am! We need the giant skeleton in this discussion. Like, pronto. *snaps fingers* #skeXXLeton I thought I saw an inflatable Yule Cat in someone's front yard today but then I remembered that it's Halloween first and black cats are for Halloween, and also that the Yule Cat isn't a thing in the USA... The Yule Cat has taken over our brains! We can totally make it a thing in the US. Come on. Big cat + Christmas + being on the nice list = all the ingredients for success. Oh, by the way, I'm saving a bit of the following paper (B-side) from the Prima Luna collection to document how we're keeping the Yule Cat away this Christmas by getting everyone some kind of new clothing (yep, I got my mother, the avid knitter, on board with the Yule Cat tradition!): The Dracula costume for Charlie (surly calico) has arrived. It is glorious. As soon as I’m able to get to Target, I’ll pick up Milo’s witch hat. YAAAAS, the Dracula costume has arrived! Can't wait to see your grumpy kitteh in it... So I just found you the perfect October daily cover… for a tn but still 🤤🤤😍 Beautiful! Love it. I just saw it was actually Happy Planner Classic-sized on Insta... In case you need tempting! You could totally use one of the Classic notebooks with dot paper pages in it. Luna is beyond adorable. I can’t even with that face and the wink. She's cast a spell on every single one of us! I didn’t even realize it was in Qatar this year. Yikes. If you want a decent 10-minute summary of the situation by a football/soccer YouTuber, here's a recommended one: I scooped up Traci Reed’s Goldenrod fall collection www.tracireed.com/journal/goldenrod and have been playing around with some of the digitals, making my own journaling cards and such. Sounds really great and I love the "complete" colour scheme in this collection, making it super versatile! Are you managing to scrap with your little one? How is he? How are you? It's all still so fresh and new... Oh, and we're finally going to watch the "Halloweentown" movie(s), since the town where it was filmed is nearby and a tourist attraction this time of year (also need to go there). We got married the day it came out, so didn't really pay attention. My nephews have fond memories of it though. Congratulations on accidentally selecting a really neat wedding date! I'd love to see your photos of the actual Halloweentown if you end up visiting this year. I got out my Halloween bin and decorated yesterday. Creepy doll warning! Very nice! The purple atmosphere is gorgeous. Jack suspended on the top bit of the tree is giving me serious Leonardo DiCaprio in the Titanic vibes! "I am the pumpkin king of the woooorld!"

Playing around with film strips for my first stories and it's been a lot of fun creating visually interesting inserts for my album. If you have any downloaded somewhere on your computer, Halloween month is the perfect excuse to put them to use. The black frames are such a nice and dramatic contrast! (Sniffing the lingering scents of the old stockpiled wood that had freshly been donated.)

Off to Google where I can visit Krampus… We did this last year. I'll see if I posted a photo to Instagram and I'll post it here from my phone. It was so good. We brought Milo and he was an angel. Erm. Ok. You can't say such things without posting a photo, Ma'am! We need the giant skeleton in this discussion. Like, pronto. *snaps fingers* #skeXXLeton Ok, I'll walk up there tonight. It's such a big hill but I will do it for you. I'm saving a bit of the following paper (B-side) from the Prima Luna collection to document how we're keeping the Yule Cat away this Christmas by getting everyone some kind of new clothing (yep, I got my mother, the avid knitter, on board with the Yule Cat tradition!): Freaking genius. Playing around with film strips for my first stories I love these. Where are they from? I use the ones from In a Creative Bubble a Lot. They are travel themed but I always just delete that layer in photoshop. I have nothing new to report but my Oct Daily is coming along well. I'm really enjoying it. Tonight I'm going to try to play with the stencils and paste that I bought to texture up a library card. It will be for the photos of Milo in the cauldron. He's so cute. I also have an idea for a story. I'm going to use a 2X2 page protector with all the pockets (12). I've been taking screenshots of all this cute art and stuff that comes up on Facebook and instagram. I'm just going to print them all out. I will start now but continue to add to it all month.

Ok, I'll walk up there tonight. It's such a big hill but I will do it for you. Aww, now I feel kind of bad... No rush! Whenever you pass next to it. But when you do, don't forget to share. This sounds so cool. I love these. Where are they from? I use the ones from In a Creative Bubble a Lot. They are travel themed but I always just delete that layer in photoshop. Oldies but goodies from Paislee Press ( Snapshots - The Frames). Back from... 2011! I also have an idea for a story. I'm going to use a 2X2 page protector with all the pockets (12). I've been taking screenshots of all this cute art and stuff that comes up on Facebook and instagram. I'm just going to print them all out. I will start now but continue to add to it all month. Yes, I've been saving so much art from Insta these past few weeks, too! Some are proper cartoons so I'll need to go bigger than 2x2 but thanks for reminding me to get to it. There is truly gorgeous art out there. Bill Crisafi's slutty October creatures must make it into my album this year! Also, I'll randomly think of one of the October documenting Peas when I see some (I have zero Halloween fans around me so you ladies are my references). This Anastasia Wessex art I saw yesterday made me think of Skellinton , for ex.: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cieoym4KXdM

Can I just say that I really want the Home Depot skeleton. We get gift certificates at work for logging our workouts and we have a thing where we spend them on only ridiculous stuff. Last year I spent $90 on cookie cutters, icing coloring and a haunted house cookie class. This year I just keep talking about getting the skeleton. And my husband just keeps saying where will we store it. It’s been 2 years of longing and this year he seems to be coming around to the idea that it will fulfill my dream.
Says the person with a giant spider web and tie dye witch unicorn in the front yard. Also I live on the last dirt road in NJ that no one drives on.

"Jamais deux sans trois." - French wisdom (Never two without three AKA the glorious twist on "third time's the charm" because it works for everything: marriages, breaking bones, adopting pets but also buying huge home décor!) You've worked your butt off for this skeleton. Literally. You deserve it! Maybe next year you can save for a new shed to store it in?

sleepingbooty, I didn’t tell you about the life sized skeleton they also bought. And my idea was - it must break into 2 pieces and we can stick it behind the shed (that does already exist) I believe it may be sold out. You have to buy them in June. So next June I will have my first October daily story when I finally buy it. Also some people stick Christmas hats on theirs.

sleepingbooty Thanks for sending the video on the World Cup, I had no idea. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole and the BBC has some good coverage of the human rights abuses and boycotts. I’m finding it hard to believe big money didn’t change hands, much like I find it hard to believe that doesn’t happen in the US with the Olympics bids or the World Cup bid that happened here over the summer. The fact Qatar won’t relax their anti LGBTQ + laws and forced labor/human right issues should have disqualified them from consideration, regardless of anything else. “Sportswashing” is right. You are very sweet to ask about the baby. Our little bug will be 8 weeks this week. He’s already outgrowing all his clothes. It's both harder and easier than I imagined. I’ve managed a tiny bit of scrapping here and there. I did print a few photos today so that’s my big “win”. I’m up to Day 22 in my 2020 DD. I *might* finish before the end of this December. Our neighbors have a couple of the giant skeletons and some huge spiders. This year the skeletons are spraying bug spray to exterminate the spiders and it’s pretty clever. They put us to shame. I haven’t even drug out my jack-o-lantern yet and all I have to do is plug him in. Loving the Yule Cat. What a cool and creepy tradition.

I am going ahead and making the claim: I will likely be the only October Daily documenter in the world to have this story logged but I don't care because Annie Ernaux won the Nobel in Literature! Months of speculation, years of having her somewhere near the top of my prediction list, it's all finally paying off. Beautiful clean style, autobiographical analysis with strong social criticism, core themes of disparity and shame, female sexuality (and abortion), a particularly fitting win for 2022.

Roast the Dead Coffee shop in Yucaipa, CA has a Krampus figure inside. When we go this weekend I will snap a photo.
So if anyone wants to visit a spooky coffee shop or see a Krampus in Southern Ca, that is your spot.

I may not post much, but this is my favorite place on the interwebs and I read everyday to see what everyone is up to! I am using October Daily as motivation to doing little seasonal related things each day and it is some days what literally keeps me going. I have my qualifying exam for my PhD next week and the amount of stress it is causing me is unreal. I will have two 8 hour days of writing responses to questions and then a two hour oral exam a couple weeks later. If you fail you can be kicked out of the program and the last 4 years will have been wasted *cry* So yesterday I brought down all the decorations from the attic and set up my hutch. Today I am taking my kids (who are on fall break) for a fall walk at a local Civil War battle site that has long trails in the surrounding park. I’ve also documented the baseball postseason, my first fall leaf, and our 11th wedding anniversary.
To be honest, Krumpus kind of freaks me out! But I love anything and everything cat related. Those 12 foot skeletons are so much fun- just impossible to find around here!

blemon there are several different styles too of the skeleton. My favorite is the one with flames in the chest. We have those ones, the huge werewolf, the reaper, a skeleton with a pumpkin head, and witch around our neighborhood. Oh and a home has a huge Oogie Boogie.

Watched Halloween Cookie Challenge on Food Network Channel How was it? I think we watch that network on Hulu. I saw that Nailed it just released a Halloween season and I can't wait to see it. We once did the Nailed it at home and it was so much fun. We passed a house the other day Wow. That yard is incredible. On the other hand, our next door neighbors are putting their house on sale tomorrow, so perhaps this is not the year. Ha! I think that is exactly why this is your year. You need neighbors who get you. scrappyem thanks for sharing that collection. I really like it and the price is very affordable. Aww, now I feel kind of bad... No rush! Whenever you pass next to it. But when you do, don't forget to share. This sounds so cool. It's not a big deal. This is WV. You can't go anywhere without going up and down at least one hill. I definitely needed the exercise and enjoyed the walk at sunset. I think they did a really great job with their set up. Thank you. I'll definitely pick these up. This is incredible. I love his creations. Wow. So glad to have a new follow. So good. Yes! I will check her out. Always looking for something to read. I have my qualifying exam for my PhD next week You can do it. It is grueling. I just finished my dissertation and graduated in Dec. of 2021. It's the worst best thing I ever did. My exams were a little different. I got one question each morning at 8 am and had to submit at 5 pm. I had 3 days of those. It's brutal but worth it. Good luck! If you need to scream at someone about your committee, I am here for you.

dudleypippen Oof, girl, I could feel the stress reading your post... Wishing you all the very, very best! PhDs are on a completely different level in terms of studies. I hope you can find some ways to relax with your kids, in nature and in this thread as you gear up for the questions and qualifying exam. 🤞 You got this, you got this, you got this! 📣 blemon That is HUUUUUUUGE! (BRB, telepathically bugging ecvnj58 until she joins the giant skeleton gang!) Look at that chonker of a bone daddy tickling the clouds, goodness me. I didn't realise how big they were IRL. I'm in love! 🖤💀🖤 Nobody does Halloween like the US... Thanks so much for grabbing that photo for us after you went... *cue the music* pantsonfire Big Oogie Boogie, you say? I've got a feeling you'll be running up your neighbourhood hill for a picture to share, too... 😁 scrappyem 8 weeks already? Whoa, time truly flies. I can't believe it's been nearly 2 months. I love that he's outgrown his clothes just as seasons change. He's perfectly synced up. 😉 Day 22 is quite the achievement, you should be proud of yourself! You're so close to the finish line. You're going to have so many adorable photos and mini milestones to document in this year's album... That has to be super exciting! 🎅 Ladies, I have literally seen ZERO Halloween things outside of literally 2 stores so far. Not one decoration. Nada, zilch, rien. The Halloween-packaged sweets are not at the supermarket yet either. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your neighbourhoods/photos! 🎃
