I don’t know if anyone else is watching the scenes live from Edinburgh, but I’m so moved by it all! I guess this is what a state funeral looks like. I think this is just -Just! - a service of thanksgiving. The State Funeral will be the one in London. Everything we have seen of proceedings in Scotland since the cortege left Balmoral has been impeccable imho. Fitting, dignified, beautiful.

I'm watching joelise - very moving indeed And yes, Prince Andrew really stood out in his suit didn't he - he must have hated it! I read that he will be in uniform for his vigil at the coffin in London.

One of the Archers beside the coffin just before it set off...he was walking to his place and it lifted and he managed to grab it thankfully. for guy

As well as not being in uniform like the others, he is also alone, which makes him stand out more.

So many silly little things like that to worry about. I don't know how everyone made it up the Royal Mile without a drink of water! Did you see the idiot in the crowd, shouting as the line of Royals went by? He could have been shouting about the monarchy or Andrew, I don't know, but he was pulled back by the crowd.

Just wanted to let you all know, I’m watching, too. I am with you in spirit. (Just wanted to add … when a former U.S. president dies, our TV news has wall-to-wall coverage of his life and times from the moment of death until the funeral. It kind of annoys the snot out of me because I know there is other news happening out there besides a dead president, and three days in, I am *over it*. No such compunction in this case. I have not tired of the coverage of the Queen’s life and times, the new King’s experience, the family scandals, the pageantry … nope. Keep it coming.)

I heard a shout but didn't have my eyes on the screen. I assumed it was someone saying God Bless her or similar. There's always one idiot.

I have loved everything the last few days. A fitting tribute.
I can’t imagine having to mourn the death of your mother in such a public way. I do understand that the royal family will take some time off from official duties after the funeral on the 19th.
Both my sister and I commented about Princess Ann (I think that is her title)who accompanied the hearse from Balmoral to Highrood. That was a 6 hour drive and every picture they showed of her she was sitting so proper. We had a couple of thoughts. First, a 6 hour drive and having to sit there to be seen must have been hard. Secondly, what if she got hungry? Did she have a marmalade sandwich in her bag? Then what happens if you have to go to the bathroom? Remember, she had to stand there as they brought the casket into the building. They didn’t bring it in quickly either. Do they stop someplace and just not film that? Does the Bentley have a Porta Potty? What about the other people in all the vehicles. I would hate to have to be so public that you can’t take care of your needs.
Back to the services today. They were magnificent, respectful and dignified. I am drawn to the whole thing as we have not seen this sort of thing before and I might not again.
Oh and King Charles III and the extra pens. One would think that they would have it set up for only him and then exchange the fountains of ink with the other pens after his signature. I could tell he was worried he would knock the pens off so he wanted them removed. I think he handled the situation appropriately.

My first thoughts were that I could no way last for 6 hours without using the loo. I have heard that they did have a comfort stop, which I guess was not shown live on TV, and when they stopped for the break the footage cut to the studio feed so we didn’t see that. I believe that Princess Anne’s official title is Princess Royal, but everyone I know calls her Princess Anne.

There was a comfort break of about 20 minutes and the televised broadcast switched to other footage at that time. The drivers needed a rest too.

twinks, I think I heard a commentator say that a small break happened. Not only was there a hearse, but apparently there was a spare hearse, an ambulance, and fleet of vehicles following behind the main party.

Actually, Princess Anne will travel with her mother's coffin from Edinburgh to London on the plane too. I believe she will be the only family member on board.
So she will have accompanied her from Balmoral to her resting place.

When she passes, my fingers are crossed that Charles steps aside and let’s William become king. I just can’t stomach Charles. Exactly what I expected from Charles. Ugh With all due respect, as the OP of this thread and someone who is British and who loves the Royal Family, can I politely ask that you share any negative feelings you may have on a different thread. I totally accept that you feel differently, but many of us in Britain, and the Commonwealth and many many other people around the world are grieving at the moment. I respectfully ask you not to use my thread for negative comments. Thank you 🙏

The BBC are reporting that someone has already started queuing in London to see the Queen's coffin. It's still two days before coffin gets there. I'm sure she be joined soon enough. Eta(two hours later, the queue doubled!) Are any of our UK peas planning to pay their respects? They are warning of long long queues. Eta www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-62881726

But I’m not the fittest of people, I’d want a comfy chair and a bed for the night! On another note, I’ve just spotted, on TV, that King Charles and his Queen Consort are still going strong! They are now at the Scottish Parliament!

I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering about Princess Anne and the rest of the entourage with the six hour drive. I was watching and as they were taking the coffin out of the car, I was half wondering if they were all standing there trying not to cross their legs! Glad to hear they all got a break!

Princess Anne is a rock. She always steps up and does her duty in a dignified manner. I'm sure she will be a great help to her brother just as she was to her mother.
I thought the service in Edinburgh was lovely.

They do so much that we never see.

Princess Anne is awesome!
As for a fun story about her, I read once that when she has people over for dinner, once dinner is over, she likes them to be on their way and instead of serving dessert, she gives them an ice cream bar (or whatever they are called over there) to eat on the way home!

She's a horsewoman isn't she? Probably rises very early. I can't do late nights either. I like the story from Gordon Brown, the prime minister after Tony Blair. Apparently when he and his family visited the Queen she told her corgies to shut up. A few days later, when his sons said shut up and were admonished, they asked but the Queen says it, why can't we?

In some ways the rituals are interesting, but I am over the constant coverage. I'm perfectly fine with showing what is happening each day, but there is only so much you can say or speculate about the family, watching people walk through the cathedral, etc. I feel for the family. All of it must be really tiring, especially when grieving. I do like seeing all of the old buildings. It is hard to believe that there are buildings that old that are still being used.
