Watching the plane go was so emotional. Tears again - and I don’t even have a connection with Scotland specifically. I was so impressed with everything we’ve seen over the last couple of days.

I still sniffle over losing our Queen but I am excited about there being a new King and Omg a Princess of Wales again. I also think the Queen Consort will do w wonderful job.

Yes, I’ve been tracking the King’s flights over the last few days. (Yes, I know I’m a nerd!). But the Queen is on an RAF plane so I’m not able to track that. I did wonder if Charles might stay at RAF Northolt to wait to accompany her but he is obviously very busy and needs to prepare for her arrival at Buckingham Palace.

What a week Liz Truss has had! A week ago she had just met the Queen! What a lot she has been through!

For anyone wondering about wearing uniforms. Officers must attain the rank of Major to wear the uniform after resigning their commission. Harry left the army as a Captain, so doesn’t meet the requirement.
Andrew served over 20 years and I assume retired, not resigned. He also reached the rank of Major, so he gets to wear his uniform. He earned this right as part of his service, it wasn’t given to him because he’s a Prince or the son of the previous monarch.
Both have been stripped of their honorary military appointments / patronages. Those are bestowed by the monarch and are for working royals. Harry quit as a working royal to make his fortune in America. Andrew’s were removed due to the Epstein scandal.
The rules for the funeral were set by QEII and/or Charles. They can determine who wears a uniform (if they are authorized to) during the funeral. Harry is not authorized by prior military service or honorary appointment. Andrew has been told not to, even though he is authorized by military service.

I read earlier today that Princess Anne was going to accompany her mother so King Charles would be free to go ahead of her.

I don’t want to derail this thread, but I do hope that the Duchess of Sussex might now see and understand, after seeing how the events of the week have unfolded, that we aren’t against her. I don’t think she was truly made aware of how the British Monarchy works. No criticism towards her on that respect, because unless you’re British, it does seem crazy, but this is the British Monarchy.
ETA I don’t think I worded this well, maybe you have to be British to understand! No offence meant to anyone.

Cars just abandoned on the roads so people can see her!

So many people lining the road despite the rain. Ha! yes but being from the north of England and I know you are from north Scotland it did make me laugh when the presenter said “arriving to such bleak weather”. I was like “bleak? It’s like a summer evening to me” But it is lovely to see people lining the road.

A remark by The Queen that was broadcast not long after she acceded, I believe, and has been played a few times today, was that she had no apprenticeship for the job, she just had to get on with it. Meghan did state during the interview with Oprah that she didn't read up on the monarchy or did any real research as she *thought that it wasn't necessary*. That sounds rather careless.
Also, when receiving flowers, she didn't want to hand them over to the assistant. There is a reason why the flowers go immediately to the assistant and it is for security. There might be anthrax or other dangerous powder on the flowers or a tiny little bomb, so the flowers need to be assessed quickly before being laid into the pile.
There are so many very tiny details that are required and just shushing them off because you don't know the reason is rather rude. There are plenty of people who want (ed) to help her, but she just waved them away. Not fair to say that she had no apprenticeship for this job. Anyway, carry on.....

I’m not sure that anthrax is an issue with flowers in the UK. The flowers are passed to the aides because the Royal Family can’t physically hold all the flowers.

I’m afraid you completely missed the point of my post, in which I hoped Peas would read more into what I WASN'T saying than what I did, in order to avoid a Megan pile on thread. It was THE QUEEN who said she (the Queen) didn’t have an apprenticeship and just had to get on with it, in the 1950s. I was hoping others would understand my point that the Queen managed to make a remarkable job of her duties, with little or no help. Meghan, on the other hand, appears to have dismissed what appears to have been plenty of help and in doing so set herself up for a huge fall. My point was that those words of the Queen all those decades ago should be viewed against the behaviour of Meghan recently. However, this is not a Meghan pile on.

This must feel like the first time they can really all be together and breathe! Charles (and Camilla I assume) are off to Wales tomorrow I think so another busy day for them. Sarah chatto was reportedly seen arriving so it isn’t be a big gathering tonight.

Don't forget to set Record for the Bake Off if you're going to keep watching the cortege ladies I'm a bit annoyed - I was looking at the coverage of the Queen and what happened overnight while I was sleeping, and right on the same page was the headline "and xxx is the first to leave the Bake Off tent" I'm trying to pretend to myself that I didn't read the name (but I know I did...)
