wow! There are a lot of older people in line. I can’t imagine them standing for 9 hours! I've just checked it again, 11 hours later, seems the length of the queue is the same, 4.9 miles but the waiting time has increased to 14 hours.

I guess at some point on Saturday or early Sunday the public will have to be told that there is no point in joining the queue after a certain time.
The news is saying the Queen’s four children will stand in vigil this evening at 7.30pm for 15 minutes and her 8 grandchildren will do the same tomorrow evening, including the girls. The King has specifically requested that Harry be in uniform. William and Harry will both be in uniform.
ETA - they are saying the queue is being paused for 6 hours as it has reached capacity. I guess people will start queuing to join the queue.

They’re going to have to be very careful about deciding when to stop people joining the queue aren’t they. Imagine doing 7 or 8 hours or wherever then being told Sorry, no more can go in. I know that won’t happen but it’ll need to be well managed!
I think the family’s vigils will be very moving.

I don't think that anyone who is waiting in line will be denied entry. But it's the stopping-the-queue thing that I was trying to picture. Wherever the end is right now, the police would have to go there and physically block any more people from joining. But how do they keep people from waiting nearby? They'd have to physically block any "nearby" area.... And then wouldn't people just create a new "nearby"? The logistics are complicated. However, as us non-Brits have seen before (not just during the events surrounding the Queen's death) the British people are experts in logistics.

You actually have to queue first to get a wristband before you can join the queue. No one is allowed in without a numbered band. They will just stop giving the wristbands out I would assume. ETA I’m guessing they will be able to work out how quickly the queue is moving by monitoring the numbers on the bands as people enter. The numbered bands allow people to leave the queue for food and to use the toilet without losing their place in the queue.

I saw this on TikTok - it shows the path of the queue the way Game of Thrones opens with the map. I loved it but I LOVE the Game of Thrones opening theme song. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRaJApKt/

Here's a bit more about the family's vigil this evening. BBCThe link I see is about the grandchildren’s vigil tomorrow evening, but I might be missing something. The Queen’s children are doing the vigil this evening. Interesting to see that Viscount Severn will be attending the vigil. That’s tough for someone so young.

In the main, King Charles seemed to have been accepted well in Wales. Camilla is looking a tad weary! She nearly lost her shoe walking down the aisle in Llandaff Cathedral, but styled it out!
Interesting to see that David Beckham joined the queue at 2am this morning and has finally (3:30pm) just paid his respects to the Queen. He did look very moved when he passed the coffin.

joelise I have seen reports that Camilla is nursing a broken toe, it's being reported she broke it before the Queen died but it's very sore. So hats off to her for battling through, it can't be easy.

[/quote] Sadly no, particularly as the fashion police have already been having a go at her for her mourning clothes. What on earth do they think would be suitable garb for a woman in her 70s who has to wear black due to protocol? We might not need to see her before Monday now, so hopefully she can rest it.

Imagine the thoughts of the people who happened to be there when the Queen's four children came to stand vigil. After seeing that guard faint the other day I was nervous watching them, but then it turned out they didn't do the full 20 minutes so that was okay.

Did you see a guy was arrested last night as he went towards the coffin! Not that he could have hurt her now but I bet it took everyone by surprise!

gillyp - there hasn't really been a lot of detail given, just that someone stepped out of line and approached the catafalque, but was quickly arrested and removed from the hall- It happened around 8pm last night, so not long after King Charles and his sibs left the hall - I can imagine the panic if it had happened while they were there.

It’s good to see all the Heads of State paying their respects to the Queen.
It’s lovely seeing the interaction of The King and Prince William with the crowds in the queue.

Wow! That was so moving watching the Queen’s grandchildren attending the vigil. How difficult must that have been for them. Especially Lady Louise and Viscount Severn. I am pleased that Prince Harry did get to wear his military uniform. I’m not sure that I could have done that in the public eye.

I think Zara regretted her shoe choice, she didn't look very comfortable. They looked great but perhaps not the best for walking on that stone.

I just said that to my DH, I’d have to do that in trainers! Standing on that step with my head down in heels would not end well! I bet the public mourners thought that the wait was worthwhile after seeing that. The Royal Family have all been impeccable throughout these last 10 days.

I don't think they should have caved to Harry's demands...if he didn't reach the rank to be able to wear a uniform and they apply that rule to everyone else, then I don't think exceptions should be made because he happens to be famous and he created a stink in the media to make them look bad.
I thought Edward & Sophie's statement was really lovely and I liked how he sent his love to Charles as well. I hope Charles makes Edward the Duke of Edinburgh as soon as things settle down a bit.
Did you see when KC was greeting people yesterday a lady gave him a pen and said it was for "just in case" & Charles laughed.
I'm glad I haven't seen any negative comments about Camilla's clothes..I think she always looked polished, her clothes fit well and she dresses appropriately for her age and position...just like the Queen did. Plus they are all in morning no-one should be commenting on if they are fashionable or not.

I thought the grandchildren's vigil was lovely. I was very glad to not see George, Charlotte, and Louis not be included. I never thought Archie or Lili would be there, but wasn't sure about the Cambridge (or should I call them the Wales kids, now?) kids. Especially the oldest two.
