The only family at the Queen’s side when she died were Prince Charles and Princess Anne as they were both in Scotland already. I think Camilla may have been around too. The rest of the family didn’t make it in time. I heard this as well, and that PW, Andrew, and Edward's car arrived shortly after she passed. I am still not sure why Harry decided to drive - if he was trying to save his carbon footprint, surely everyone would forgive him in the name of getting to her side quickly...

It is reported that Harry actually flew to Aberdeen then took a car to Balmoral. He certainly flew home as we saw him board the plane. There could be many reasons he flew separately, timing, logistics etc. But I did wonder if the fact that he is now 5th in line to the throne meant that they didn’t want him to be in a plane with William, Andrew and Edward. Typically close heirs to the throne don’t travel together.

Prince Harry has left Balmoral to go to Aberdeen airport. Im not surprised. I really wonder how much of a role he has in things going forward? I assume he will show up for the funeral. But other than that, I wonder what else he’d be expected to do in the coming days? I highly doubt much of his family probably wants him around much after the history of the past few years. I don't think there will be much that he's expected to do and he might have commitments that he wants to keep being as he is (or at least was) only in Europe for a limited time, or want to be back with Meghan. I had hoped that perhaps there could have been some reconciliation between them all over this family loss. Maybe there has been I suppose, we don't know I suppose.

Charles also left, so to me, it isnt a big deal that Harry left. I'm sure Harry wants to be with his wife and children at this time.

Oh my goodness. The King just gave a really heartfelt speech. I feel it was perfect and fitting.

Just watched it, I don't think he can be faulted on that speech, word perfect.
A new Prince and Princess of Wales, too.

I think the timing is perfect for Catherine to become Princess of Wales Agreed. Catherine will take on the mantle well and maybe, just maybe, the media will stop calling her Kate Middleton.

I think the timing is perfect for Catherine to become Princess of Wales I totally agree with this. I feel like the Queen held on until we all liked Camilla, became to love Charles again , and realised that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are ready to move the monarchy forward! I’m so very sad that the Queen has died, but I have great hope for the future of our monarchy.

I'm not British and I'm not a royalist but I find the media calling her Kate Middleton to be highly disrespectful. She and William have been married since 2011, she has borne three children, is the wife of a future King and mother of another. She has done and is doing a great job, the least she should be afforded is her Royal name and title.

They don't seem to call Camilla by "Camilla Parker-Bowles"...not sure why they keep calling Kate, Kate Middleton.

Just a couple of hours ago, I heard a reporter (British accent) talking to one of our MSNBC hosts, actually talking about their elevation to Prince and Princess of Wales, and he still referred to her as Kate Middleton! I have never understood what is up with that.

He may have been one of those “royalty experts” we get a lot of on this side. But either way …

I hate that Harry didnt make it in time to say goodbye. I also think they should have waited for him to join the family to announce it. It was a matter of an hour or so. To be fair , judging from the timing of the announcement I suspect she had actually passed before the others arrived too. I think the wording “earlier this afternoon “is significant and also think they would have taken the helicopter between Aberdeen and Balmoral if there had been a chance of getting there in time to see her. I agree. It’s after 11pm now and we just got back to the hotel, so I haven’t seen any footage today. But they announced the news shortly after “the boys” all arrived. We went by the Palace this morning about 10 am and the line to walk in front of the gates to lay flowers was extremely long—across the palace and up the hill beside the palace. There were tons of people there and it was like a fish streaming upstream to get back to the underground station. The flowers were about 2 meters/6 feet deep at that point. We were there yesterday for a palace tour and all tours have been canceled for the near future. It really was a great tour and we spent over 2 hours going through the palace.

I don't think it's a big deal that they call her Kate Middleton. I doubt many people outside the ULK know the difference between the Cornwalls and the Cambridges or Wessex v Sussex. They were still calling her "Lady Di" and Diana Spencer in the media long after she married Charles too. Then it was all "Princess Diana" even though that was never her title.
I think it's just an easy why of identifying them to any reader in the world who is interested enough to read about the women in the royal family, but doesn't know all their official titles. At least they stay consistent. I think the only last name they don't use is Camilla's because "Parker-Bowles" was her previous husband's name. If they suddenly called her Camilla Shand no-one would know who they were talking about, but the others all get called by their unmarried last names. And actual Royal last names are SO confusing to most of us (Windsor? Wales? Mountbatten? Mountbatten-Windsor??) that using their maiden names seems quite logical to me.

Just T you were asking earlier about the transition to King for Charles. The BBC have announced that for the first time ever this will be televised, which should be interesting. A chance for us to all learn something new. I don’t have any further details but will post when they are available if no one else does.
