Oh wow, doing one looooong 6 hour live stream was an interesting choice. I clicked on Shimelle and it did indeed take me right to her spot in the replay video, so that was good. The live chat was too much. I can't imagine it was much fun for the creators to try and catch all the questions and respond to them, but having the video pre-recorded was so much better than chancing it with live creations going awry and people going over time or having technical issues and not being able to respond to the questions. Hopefully I'm not going to be tempted to shop if I watch some of these videos. I already watch Simon Hurley and know that lunar paste might be a fun thing to use - I like that you can just rub it on with your finger. Looking through the supply lists the other day nothing was tempting me much but I know how these videos work! I'm going to chant "shop your stash" the whole time I watch lol

I fell asleep during Shimelle’s class. I was really enjoying it because after all these years, I’ve never really watched one of her process videos. Going to finish watching that one sometime today and whatever else I missed.
I’ve haven’t heard of most of these instructors so it was very interesting to watch. I really need to step outside of my “Ali Edwards bubble”. Speaking of, I see she is on the roster for today so that will be fun to see what she’s got for everyone.
You know, I did notice everyone using mint tape. And now I think it’s something that I need. I always just use washi to hold down things and I guess this is better? Think it’s like painters tape or masking tape? I’m gonna have to get a roll lol.
Thanks for the well wishes! Day 7 for me and feeling a lot better this morning.

OMG Vicki's LO is so pretty! I would maybe add another photo, and I used diffrent dies but it was fun to swipe Nuvo drops through a stencil. They used Color pops but I don't have those.

Hopefully I'm not going to be tempted to shop if I watch some of these videos. Funny enough, the only thing that tempted me was the mint tape and two of ali edwards stamp sets. I am a tiny bit annoyed that they featured both in the video and they are listed as "out of stock and discontinued" on scrapbook.com. I mean, I really think you should not use a discontinued stamp set-it's just weird. Don't you want to make $$ off people wanting to see and purchase? People like me?

I wanted some of the Tim Holtz distressed crayons I’d never heard of before after watching Ali’s lesson. I had different ideas to use them then she did but I like the look of them.

kmage there was a kit for sale for Ali’s class. I saw it available a few weeks ago and saw the price and didn’t purchase. It was pricey. $100+. I noticed it was sold out yesterday when I took a look at what was left of all of the class kits. I’m thinking they had stamp sets to sell but maybe people picked those up pretty quick when the kit sold out or after seeing the kit price? I’m sorry you missed. Maybe check the AE site! I enjoyed watching the classes today. I loved the interactive pocket pages in the Jamie Pate class. Seeing her “home” title in the album made me run to put those alphabet dies in my cart too. I bought too much stuff! I feel pretty guilty about it now but I’m sure that will change when my box arrives!

Haven't watched them all, but took a peek at most of them. Lots of ideas to perk in my brain with all the other stuff floating around in there. Looks like stencils and grids are still IN. That's good cuz I like them both. Also saw quite a few loosely stacked mats and torn edges. I still want to try the Luna paste, but I need to go through my mixed media to see what has survived. I tend to buy when I get inspired, use it once or twice, and then don't go back to it for months by which time it has dried up on me. Wondering about those rounded top applicators. Are they so much better than the flat round ones? I spent a pretty penny on my makeup style brushes. Do the rounded tops work better than those? Does anyone have the silicone splash mat? I gave up on the brown Ranger one that was not much thicker than wax paper: ended up actually USING wax paper, or the front cover of a VB foundations pad. Thanks for starting this thread kmage. It was fun.

I asked Shimelle about her silicone mat not too long ago. She recommended a basic silicone mat you would use for baking. Much more affordable that way.

I've only watched the first day's video so far, but I was incredibly underwhelmed.
Simon's demo was fine, if rather bland. Everyone's done florals plus a sentiment before. The others... well it went downhill from there. The scrapbook page was a hot mess of techniques and composition, the Christmas card was so generic I swear I've seen that exact thing before in a store, and I cannot see a decent use for the folding pocket accordion thing. And I'm utterly sick of hearing 'scrapbook.com' prefacing every. single. product. Like, I get it. It's one big marketing department thing to get people to buy more stuff. But it's so tacky and obvious they're pushing certain products hard, like the drop of colour and mint tape and that autumn themed patterned paper pack.
I'm starting to think I'm not the target demographic for these videos.

Wondering about those rounded top applicators. Are they so much better than the flat round ones? I have the original rectangular flat Ranger applicator and recently bought one of the domed sb.com ones, and I definitely prefer how the ink goes on with the domed ones, I just find it easier to get good coverage. I'll still hang onto the Ranger tool as I'm happy to continue use it for inking edges, but I will definitely choose the domed one for things like blending and stencilling. I don't have the makeup style brushes so I can't give you a comparison on those.

They’re also great for stenciling. The domed/flat applicators are better for getting a lot of color on the paper quickly. If you want intense color they’re going to get the job done a lot more quickly. I would say that if you’re buying new applicators the domed ones (of whatever brand) are good and may hold up better than the flat foam. But I wouldn’t personally replace the flat ones I had until they wear out unless heavy duty ink blending is especially important to you.

I always just had the flat applicators when I only had regular distress inks. When I started getting oxides, instead of buying more flat ones, I noticed that the domed ones seemed to be popular so I tried them and I really liked them! They are very nice for edging as well. I also wanted to try the makeup brushes, and someone had said that Dollar Tree had them, so I went to dollar tree and bought a couple. They worked very well, like joblackford said, a lighter application of colors. Also with the brushes, I only have one brush for each "color family" not per color, so thats something too, where for the domed applicators (or bloopers as I now think of them) there is only one for each color, no washing in between. But I will add I do not have one handle for each blooper head. I switch them out with my two handles. HTH!

Thanks for the comparison, joblackford . Like you, kmage , I have just two handles, one of which has gone walk about recently. I have the little flat foam heads with my mini distress inks. For Oxides, I have been using one the two ends for "cool" (blues & greens) and one for "warm" (reds & oranges) and clean them with a paper towel after use until they don't leave any ink behind. The brushes I have one for each colour. I noticed, though, looking at my last LO with the stenciled stars that the orange and yellow stars look suspiciously similar, so those little foam ends might require a little more thorough cleaning LOL.

But it's so tacky and obvious they're pushing certain products hard, like the drop of colour and mint tape and that autumn themed patterned paper pack. I'm starting to think I'm not the target demographic for these videos. To be honest, you are probably not. If you are a seasoned papercrafter and pretty artistic (which I think you are if I am correctly remembering your older posts) and have a great stash of products, you are probably not the "target" I think they had to strike a balance between keeping it interesting for newer people (get them SHOPPING!) and making sure people with more skills did not get bored. That said, I have been papercrafting for over 20 years and have never done a slimline card, watched a video for it or had any interest. I also have never put material through a stencil that was not ink. So while Simons class was pretty basic in terms of what he was doing, he taught it well and I had fun squishing some Nuvo drops through a stencil and making my first slimline card. Did I buy any product for it=-no. I do agree that Shimelle (scrapbook class) maybe tried to much stuff-but then again she's just trying stuff, getting artsy and seeing what she likes. I don't do the texture on scrapbooking background layouts because I don't like it. Ink on a background-ok. Goop? No. While I have no use for a tiny accordian style album, I know I lot of people like them and while that seems tedious and long to me, to others maybe it is super fun and more of a project type thing where my focus is 12x12 scrapbooking and cards. Still I liked having it on in the background while I worked. Overall I am impressed with how scrapbook.com did the videos, the amount of content they were able to provide and (hopefully) drumming up more interest in this hobby. It makes me bummed to think of such an important part of my life being a "has been" so I was thrilled to see almost 2000 people watching. Someone posted recently about getting new people into scrapbooking and how important that was for the health of the hobby and I do agree, so hopefully this spread a little info out there, if nothing else!

There are no reviews of this 'mint tape' I could find that weren't directly from scrapbook.com or one of their demonstrators. Anyone ever used this stuff before? Yup - I have it and need to order a new roll! Before it, I have bought 4 different types of painters tape through the years and every single once ripped my paper under different circumstances. Even slight dampness and my paper would tear. If I put it through the die cut machine? tear. If I left it more than 10 minutes on the paper? tear. So I only use it on edges where I plan to cut it off anyways. Likewise, washi is iffy and has torn my paper. The mint tape is very low tack and it's a thicker papery type of feel. Like a thick post-it note with adhesive all over the back. So it's great for stenciling for example. It has NEVER torn my paper. IT ISN'T AS GOOD FOR DIE CUTTING AS I HOPED: It's not flexible enough - the paper doesn't conform to the edges of a metal die well as well as "Easy See Tape" (which I absolutely adore and would recommend but I can only find it at SSS) If you use mint tape for die cutting, it has to be a fairly big piece (like an inch long).

I'm not a card maker or stamper, don't own any dies, stencils, or inks aside from a few to use on edges, so I fast-forwarded through most of the replay of both days.
I caught the Ali Edwards class live and really enjoyed it. Have heard her name for years but have not seen her videos. She has a great presence and teaching style.

I wasn't able to watch live but have enjoyed what I've watched on playback. A lot of the products used were new to me ( grammadee I may need some of that lunar paste stuff too but I only added 3 or 4 items to my already existing cart. Shimelle is always a favorite and I added a new Distress Oxide color to my cart after watching her video. Overall I think sb.com did a good job with coordinating everything. janesays, hope your're feeling recovered by now.

If you want to try one of Ali Edwards grids--the one with the circles--this is today's SKETCHtember sketch. I would need a short--or maybe long--course on printing in a circle to do what Ali did.

Yeah, that's similar to the conclusions I arrived on.
While I don't have formal artistic education past post-secondary, I've dabbled in everything I could get my hands on over the years and it's been a lifelong interest. It's non-trivial to teach a class and do the thing you're teaching at the same time while keeping it concise enough to fit into the 1/2h-1h time slots that the demonstrators were likely allocated. Perhaps the presenters were given rather narrow choices in which products they had to focus on, which would limit the project design scope.
And thanks for the vote on mint tape kitbop! Makes me nervous when there's only marketing hype from the vested interest company selling a product to go by, especially when said thing looks near identical to a non-crafty product.

I love that scrapbook.com did this event. I don't mind that they're pushing their products because it's a free event, and I'm always interested to see how various products work, anyway, and who better to show us than the company that created it. Scrapbook.com does these types of videos for Crop and Create and I always enjoy them. I love seeing what products are out there - I've always loved looking at ads in scrapbooking magazines, too.
I haven't watched an entire video yet, I'm planning on watching Ali Edwards' class tonight while I work on cards. I'm excited to watch the teachers that I've never heard of, there are quite a few that weren't on my radar at all.

I love the mint tape. I also use it as a label on my magnet sheets for dies. I use it for die cutting, inking and stencils. I have several widths. It goes on sale frequently enough. It’s similar to the post-it tape which I loved, but cheaper!

I totally get this. Like you said, they have reviews on their site but so many are from people who received the product for free as DT members. Who knows how many of them would actually spend their own money to buy it? I have the same issue with SSS reviews. It may have improved by now but when they first launched the review feature all of the reviews were from DT members. And I don't think either company marks the DT reviews as being from their influencers which is just dodgy.

Ranger’s marketing strategy includes touting some products as being new and different, but sometimes—not always—I think it’s just marketing. I like and use a ton of Ranger products so that’s not a put-down. And some are better, imo, like alcohol inks.
